Hi everyone. I am having my exchange in June and I have a question. Did you have drains and if so for how long? For my BMX I had 3 and they were in for a few weeks. I just wonder what to expect with the exchange. Thanks!

    Jennifer,

It varies depending on your PS and how much work he/she needs to do, so be sure to ask yours.

I did not have drains after exchange.

Jennifer: my PS told me I'll have 2 drains for 5 days.  WAY better than the six I had after the BMX!

My PS said no drains for exchange surgery for me. I had 2 after BMX for 8 days. I think all PS differ on this and it just depends on what your PS thinks is best for you.

I had 4 drains with BMX but none with my exchange three weeks ago! Yay! It really depends on how much work your ps has to do. A basic exchange with not much pocket work probably no drains but def ask your ps.

Hi Jen... Had exchange pre-op appt yesterday and asked PS that very same question. She said she tries to avoid them but depends on how much fluid present. She said drains beat painful fluid build-up and I agree (even though I hated the 3 drains I had for weeks). Hoping for the best but have post-surgery cami with drain holders ready just in case. Will keep you posted.

Shellshine.... Hoping you date SOON! Maybe they huge supply on all implants in stock so they don't need to order? Plus what about pre-op procedures?

Thank you so much for all the quick responses! My pre op isn't until a week before my surgery in June so I guess I will find out then. Thanks again! :)

Jennifersomehere- I had my exchange 5 mos ago. I had a drain on each side for 7 days. But it does all depend on what your PS has to do during surgery. My PS did some Lipo on my side's for contouring as well as some pocket work. I went into surgery knowing there was a possibility of getting them. I didn't even have to ask when I woke up, I knew I had a growth on each side. :) good luck with your exchange!

My PS does one drain per breast for a week after exchange. I had some seromas after BMX and so I have no problems keeping those drains in a bit longer this time!

That's right, 2ndtime! Patience is not my best virtue right now. Left 2 messages at PS office today, hopefully will know a date soon. I promised myself I wouldn't obsess about the Exchange Surgery, and I haven't, but I want my d*** date!!

Shellshine... Just reading over last my last post: appears I can't multitask well tonite (mom with Alzheimer's kept interrupting me). Completely understand, don't think you're being impatient, sounds office they're inefficient. Got my date ages ago, they have so much coordinating to do, but you'd know that with your background. You're not obsessing, you need a date if its only 3 weeks away. Don't know your situation completely, but you may have to make other plans, like arranging for recovery help?

(Also posted on another thread for you). Good luck!

I've got the recovery part handled - staying at my best friend's house on the beach. Her DH will be away on a trip and my DH isn't that great at taking care of me when I'm post-op, but does a good job when I'm well - LOL.

I had no drains and PS removed significant amount of scar tissue from radiation.  My exchange was March 1st.

I am curious to know which type of implant everyone had. I will be getting my exchange in a couple of months and I am researching saline vs silicone. I have read all the risk info now I would like personal testimonies if anyone would care to answer.

what a great way to recover...at the beach!!! wonderful!!  I may have missed it, but how are you April exchange ladies doing??

I have not had surgery yet, but am scheduled for 4/23.  My ps said it was my choice, but he only recommends silicone for reconstruction.

shell..i find it helps to leave on the message "..this is the third message I have left without a return call" I have not had to do that with my ps, but with other companies, and it seems to work.  :)

Nofear- I got Mentor smooth round silicone implants. My PS prefers silicone over saline, said silicone has less rippling than saline.

Talked to my PS office today and they have me in the books for exchange on 04/24. Woohoo so excited!! Sent me

pre-op forms that I need to take to PCP for testing by next Friday. I'm scheduled for 8:30 am surgery and was told surgery would last approx 1-1/2 hrs and would be released the same day.

Still trying to wrap my mind around that in 2 wks, I get to cross over to the squishy side :)

Good luck to everyone coming up on surgery and speedy recovery to those that are post op!

Anybody have a TE move/flap? When I bend at the waist (like for washing my face or brushing my teeth), I feel a little like movement, flap beneath my armpit cave. Was just reaching for some ice cream at shoulder height and felt a little pop. Is this something serious? I just don't want anything to screw up surgery next Friday

Mamatwinz, you're right behind me.... You're almost there too!

YAY! Shellshine! Soooooo happy you finally got a date. It feels so good to look at a calendar and see that goal date getting closer and closer. Monday can't get here soon enough for me!!!!

2nd time: not only do mine flap, they also occasionally flip sideways, so the hard plastic back is sticking straight out from my chest. It's pretty horrifying and painful. Make sure you let your PS know that it's loose, that will help determine how much pocket work you need.

    Thanks my sisters.

Mamatwinz...that's exactly what I did when I called!  "This is my THIRD TIME leaving a message, and I really would appreciate a call back this century so that I can get these MFing  TE's out and finish school and find a job at my age before my severance pay runs out in 8 weeks." 😎

Actually I said, "This is my 3rd message, please have someone get back to me today about getting my breast cancer reconstruction surgery date." ... and it worked!

2ndtime - I have so many wierd pectoral dances at odd times...I would  let your PS know at your Exchange pre-op measurement visit - which side it is on and the details, so that s/he has the information when the Exchange is done.

Cr** ......I will be so glad when school and the foobs are DONE!
