Goulaw I'm sorry cuz once u'r there u'r ready--I remember one of the times I blew my nose before and the Do came out and checked my throat and stuff and said no chemo--I felt fine, til the next day but that day I had to leave. Altho u'r a little relieved it's aggrevating to have to wait. But it's best for u.

Thanks linnyhopp You're right behind me.
goutlaw lots of women have to delay a chemo because of an infection or low counts. Best they clear it up. You don't want the treatment to kill you!
moni731 The only benefit that I can see doing chemo first (if not for surgical reasons to get it smaller) is to see if the tumor responds. I had surgery first. While I may not now about how my tumor responded to chemo I was glad to get that big sucker out of me sooner rather than later… but this MO sounds like s/he has no bedside personality. Can she get a 2nd opinion?

Hi all!
Goutlaw- sorry about the cancellation, but it is best. It will be over before you know it.
Kayb- yes it is very hard to wait. I remember the feeling all too well. Have to keep reminding myself and her that the cancer didn't grow overnight! Harder done than said. No, she has Kaiser and cannot afford to go elsewhere. Just hoping that the primary can be found with MRI; another week. The neo chemo was an idea as this testing is taking so long and she does have another consult with another surgeon to be scheduled, so in all it will be about 2 months since dx before anything is done. I had neo chemo and a complete response. She is 100% ER+.

Lago- that's just it. The MO was very nice and even cracking jokes. We both were very at ease with her. But anything out of the norm was dismissed with 'that is not how we do it'. As in everyone is treated the same. Since the primary has not been found, we have no idea the size, but assume it is small as she is not even an A cup, can't be too big! She does have a 2cm node that could be monitored for effectiveness, but 'that's how we do it'!

Moni - I think that because they can't locate a breast mass and have only confirmed cancer in the node that is what is determining the course of treatment - at least so far. ALND/BMX is the standard for occult BC so there doesn't seem to be as much variation for treatment regimens as if the diagnosis was more straightforward. Here's hoping they can identify a breast tumor on the MRI so more options can be explored.

yea on bactrim D's and they taking blood Tuesday etc....make sure everything OK.Then hopefully start tax again

Moni I had barely a 34B cup (not full) and my tumor was 6.5cm! One breast didn't look bigger than the other. At the same time her onc is recommending very typical treatment. I wasn't given choices either but I knew, at that time, what I got was one of the recommended treatments.

Goutlaw- just to much chance to give chemo on top of and infection. Good thing to be cautious.
Kayb- I was 70+ ER + so guess I was lucky. My SO said that if it is going to work we should see by the 3rd tx. and that was all I had d/t allergies, so double lucky! Yeah, cancer is a very fickle disease!

How do doctors know if herceptin is working? So if not they can change it? or ain't there anything ye
0 -
Goutlaw, I am on both Herceptin and Perjeta every 3 weeks since I am Her2Neu+. I was told that they work together to basically confuse the Her2 cells so they don't start growing. My answer to "how do doctors know if herceptin is working" is if your Petscans show no active cancer then I would say it is working!

I'm still on herceptin, but mine has spread. I had a biopsy done on my spine last week, and saw a new oncologist on tuesday. She didn't have the biopsy results yet so we assumed I was still triple positive and talked about what my treatments will be. Yesterday I had an appointment with my local oncologist and the biopsy results were back, and only estrogen receptive. Now I need to get a biopsy of my liver done to make sure that's the same. I was hopeful at first because that means the herceptin is working right? But then I read that going from her 2+ to her 2- results in a worse prognosis! I don't know what to think right now. They took me off tamoxifen and I'll end up getting my ovaries removed, they still want to do chemo, but radiation on my L4 first because the cancer fractured it.

Oh BethCon1!
Please know that there is enormous progress being made in breast cancer treatment and that we are here to support you in any way we can.
I say this meditation everyday.
"May we dwell in the heart,
May we be free from suffering,
May we be healed wherever healing is called for,
May we be at peace"0 -
(((((((Beth)))))))). Sucks big time . Hope the rads get it done quickly. Much love.

bethcon - bummer, but know that we are all sending you strength.
goutlaw - did they culture your urine sample? I had a UTI during chemo but did not have a delay in treatment. They did culture the sample and determined that the initial anitbiotic I was on for the first 72 hours would be ineffective against the infection, so I was switched. This is important because you don't want to be on a useless drug that increases the chance of a spread of the UTI to your kidneys. Your kidneys are already challenged by filtering the chemo drugs.

If ur only estrogen positive now....They should of removed ur ovaries......seems like the herceptin worked then
