Art - sounds like your wife had FISH testing done to determine Her2neu status. Here is the breakdown of FISH results. If her result was 3.83, she was clearly positive on FISH, which is considered to be the more sensitive test as compared to IHC:
Ratio of HER-2/neu:CEP 17
<1.8 = negative for HER-2/neu amplification
1.8 to 2.2 = equivocal
>2.2 = positive for HER-2/neu amplification

Art welcome , we are among great women with an abundance of information .
I sent you a PM
Wishing everyone all the best0 -
Women ever hear of sour sop? Kills cancer cells?
0 -
Goutlaw,
I'd never heard of it, so I just looked it up. Everything points to there being no evidence that it works against cancer....
Nicky0 -
Nicky J,
Maybe I missed it but did you get an answer about how long on herceptin and about perjeta?0 -
My onc has told be twice that it's VERY fortunate that I am ER positive - as someone noted above, it means they can fight it with the hormonal drugs....more arsenal!

I'm following the San Francisco Breast Cancer Symposium on twitter . Because of word limitations it is hard to understand but here are just two tweets.....
From don Dixon Md..@karunajaggar My sentiments exactly. MT Dr Sledge asserts Her2 is "almost over" as DFS approx 92%--like testicular cancer #BCS13
Dr Deanna Attai
Prediction 1: "Her2/neu is almost over" - due to newer agents, other factors Dr. Sledge #BCS13

No news yet Ashla! I'll see my onc on 24th and that's when I'll be asking. Have a PET scan first, though. On the 19th. Want to get those results first!
Nicky0 -
NickyJ,
Guess that's just before you go home then, right? Please let us know....0 -
Ashla ~ I just tried to follow that conversation on Twitter. I can't figure out if those 2 doctors {the ones who tweeted} are agreeing with Dr. Sledge or if they think his statement about HER2 being almost over and "not a public health issue" is false. What is your feeling on the intent of those statements?

Went back for another look. Got no impression they agreed or disagreed ... Merely reporting.
That is the problem with twitter. More will come out in the next few days.
New study recommends mammos at 40 is already making the wires.
dr Sledge's statement albeit kind of pie in the sky follows logically what I see in my readings. Her2 pos is where the progress is. However... There is more to our cancers than her 2 and hormones.0 -
Interesting Ashla. Wonder what they really mean by "its over"

Arlene,
I sure hope it is what it appears to be. I will try to follow up and let you know.
Again...though....there's more to our tumor types and individual genetics at play here.0 -
Hre is a link to the ASCO page......

Art123,
Looking more and more that the Her 2 part is getting lots of weapons.......very, very, very complicated.0 -
Thanks Ashla! Good find. Looking forward to your further investigations!

And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all.”

I refer to that little poem a lot.

Hi my friends....I have never had a PET scan....I see a lot of you have. Do the Oncs routinely schedule these or is it just when you are having a specific complaint?
0 -
chicka - I had one pre-chemo because I had LVI, a 2cm mass, and 2 positive nodes. Also have had a one post-Herceptin, and one a year after that. Some oncs don't do them for what they consider to be early stage, but because of the positive nodes my onc felt mine was actually for staging purposes. Some docs don't like to do them for early stage because they can turn up benign things that cause more investigation. It is similar to the tumor marker situaton - some docs do them for information, some don't because the results can be skewed by other factors.

Well chicki u know I'm not the one to answer that altho I've had them--pet/cat just another animal to have, but I wouldn't worry about it.
Ashla amazing have know idea what y'all are talking about but u guys do so that's what count, besides I thought dr. Sledge was some singing group. So I can't figure why or how their tweeting about any of this.

camillegal - Sister Sledge - We are family, I got all my sisters with me...... Maybe that should be our theme song on this thread!

Dana, I have never had an MRI or Cat Scan. I did have a breast ultrasound but that was because the mammo was not clear due to dense breast. The only test I have now are blood work every six months and an annual mammo.

Chicka D

Does anyone know where I can research if you don't have the full year of Herceptin what the odds are. I had Herceptin w chemo tch feb - June one additional Herceptin when it was suspended because of the EF w my heart My mo said I received the most important dose with chemo and if my EF doesn't improve there's nothing I can do. So I'm wondering what my odds are? Thx
