Thanks guys! I'm doing ok - DH is squeamish about changing the bandage though - you would think this would be no big deal, I had 8 BC related surgeries and he was right in there with drains and all kinds of stuff, but he is being silly. I would do it myself but I can't reach!

naiviv - I had AAA put the spare on but I got four new tires today, so I am good to go!

  • Dxat32. I missed several chemo sessions due to a low ANC. The lowest was 0.3 and for that was banned to my house for several days and was put on 2 antibiotics and antifungal. As a nurse-it is much better to be safe from the scary potential side effects of chemo with very low ANC. As a patient I argued my case every single time-except the time it was 0.3. I was alarmed then. Be safe

Special K. What a day! A special ride for a special lady. Hope you are sleeping well.

Nichole, trust what they are doing and be calm about the delays. I ended up in the hospital after the first chemo round (TCH) with an ANC of less than 0.2. :-) They got upset with me when I wandered off to the gift shop with my pole to find some candy. I guess I was bubble girl and wasn't paying much attention, but I wasn't allowed to have all of the gorgeous flowers my friends sent in my room, so I should have connected the dots...

Hang in there SpecialK! I need to stop baking in the sun, but I love it so much.

Ok, so I'm not political, but I think we all should consider signing this petition on pink washing. Did you know with all the NFL does, they don't donate very much? Pinktober kind of bothers me more this year than ever.

  • SpecialK- Sorry to hear about your surgery. Great news about the good margins- Prayers that the pain will subside and that you get a good nights sleep. Sending a big hug.

Thanks for the good wishes! Unfortunately, not sleeping - the bandage is itchy and still uncomfortable despite Vicodin. The good news is that I don't have to be anywhere in the morning, so I can sleep in if I can ever fall asleep, lol!

    specialk,

Sorry you're not sleeping! Hopefully it'll get easier soon and you'll drift off. Great that you've a rest day tomorrow. Take full advantage. Good luck for the other surgeries.

Pbrain, thanks for sharing that article. I wish more consumers knew that often very little of their money actually goes to the cause they think they are supporting.

goutlaw, fatigue is well known as a SE for Taxol and even Herceptin. Not to mention all the other tx you have had. You also probably have a low red cell count. Not unusual during tx. If its under 10 you probably will be breathless and feel tired and weak. If its bad you need to let your doctor know.

SpecialK hope you got some rest. My DH had that done but his was on his side so he could sleep on his back.

Pbrain thx for the article. Its very informative. I always check how much is actually sent in. At Kohls Department Store they specify that all profits from pink stuff go to ACS. Which is a good place because they work with all kinds of cancer and help people personally. Like the $100 gas card you get for gas to get to your tx.

Thanks Moon, I did not know that about Kohl's. Very good to know!!!

  • Saw my medical oncologist today. He was thrilled to see me breathing so easily (me too)! Nice not to take 3 steps and lean against the wall. Was released to have dental repairs. Finally. I was also one of the rare and unusual who had fillings just slide on out from Taxol. He wants me to try Femara again. Hoping the horrid SEs might be due to not breathing well. So agreed. Have felt like crap since my first mastectomy last December.

I am trying to keep a good nature AKA smart mouth sarcastic pissy attitude and maybe a book entitled "And Unfortunately" That is because during my first week of testing a radiation oncologist left a message on my cell telling me the results of my tumor (which I knew) and followed it with "And unfortunately you have metastatic lesions to...". Idiot.

Since I have had a beer (I do not like beer, but have weird cravings for it since cancer. Buy it for attractive labels)-will update on #$%^. His office staff stayed on my team. Had a quilt made for me for chemo. Got a text today he is now into western wear. So a visual. 6'6" Super skinny. Think bones with skin. A western shirt and jeans. Boots. Jeans not long enough so when sitting pull up to show skinny white hairless leg. Is hairless due to lack of on no testesterone. I had him tested and put him on testesterone supplements prior to our marriage or would be a eunich. Then-add a solid colored short sleeved v neck t shirt pulled over the plaid western shirt. For no reason. Testesterone injections lead to acne and increased hair loss. I still have 11 months for the property settlement. My attorney is anxious to start now. I want to wait about 6 months. I want to be as well as possible before I have to do courtroom meetings.

This is a good group. I appreciate the welcome

SpecialK, I hope you're able to get a better night's sleep and very happy to hear about the margins.

Susan, your visuals are, in a word, magical. I felt as if I could actually reach out and touch the hairless leg as I was reading your description. :-)

lago, it's good to see you again. I recently saw a great photo of you photo with Gina. We're both in the January chemo group that migrated to a Facebook group.

Special K , hope youre feeling better today and glad they got good margins . Good luck to you on the next couple of excisions .

Yesterday was tx # 7 , spoke to MO and didnt hold back on the SE I was experiencing and their intensity. She gave me a rx for neurontin but told me to hold off on taking it no pain meds prescibed just to continue on Advil and take it round the clock. She also suggested to me to wear gloves and extra thick socks for the neuropathy and to try to get back on the treadmill . I was on the treadmill 2X everyother day but had to stop these last two wks because of the pain , HR ^ now 120 at rest BP has been an issue also but was great yesterday 115/80 my hemoglobin is low but its been consistantly low all other lab values good . Infusion went well slept right through these last two , they put me in a bed this time and it gave me a massage lol , felt good.

Again I want to thank you all for well wishes , encouragement , and great advice !!!!

PS , forgot to mention MO had increased my dose last week and didnt want to decrease and she also said I may take a BComplex supplement for neuropathy .

Wishing you all health n happiness !

Thank you everyone for the welcome! I met with my new Oncologist yesterday and I am thrilled with the choice my surgeon made. The man is wonderful and I left there feeling like my plan was completely mapped out, as well as it could be. I had a question this morning, emailed him saying it wasn't urgent and he got back to me within an hour. I feel very blessed!

My tumor was larger than they thought, 1.1cm vs .7cm, but there was nothing in the nodes. I start chemo on 11/8. Cytoxan and Taxotere with Herceptin (hopefully I spelled them right). I'm reading through all your notes on these and can't tell you how much I'm learning from all of you, thank you!

Great news Mandy. Make sure you join the November Chemo thread, they will be a great source of comfort and a place to vent with sisters who are at the same stage of tx as you are. But stay here too :) We will help you however we can!

    Hello everyone,

Just had first chemo today. Had appt for 9:15am little computer glitch and started at 11 and was finished by 3pm. Had loading dose of Herceptin next week only 30 min.  No SE's so far. Got home did 2 sinks of dishes, kids home no school today. Made them sandwiches and had a piece too. I was hungry and craving something salty...ate and so far so good. My MO said SE's may take a day or two and she was most concerned with Neulasta SE. said take claritin 800 mg of Advil 1 hour before and gave me pain med in the event I needed and she told me to take it, the pain could be bad.  I get N on Sunday morning.

I hope you are all well,

    Vivian

Vivian, so glad your first tx went so well, and so quick! I was always at the infusion center at 8 hours. Hope your SE's are mild and easy.

Did anyone suffer from indigestion while taking Herceptin? I finish up in Dec-Jan. As of late, I have had indigestion. Not burning but a full feeling. Hard to explain. I started taking Prilosec this week, maybe that will help. Just wandered if anyone else had this when finishing up with Herceptin.

Susan, as usual, you are cracking me up! That poor man trying so hard to impress as he ages and wanes. What kind of practice does he have? I sure hope it isn't psychology.

Mom, take B6, tons of it. It is cheap, buy it at the drug store. Since it is a water soluble vitamin, it has no toxicity. I really feel it helped me with the taxol neuropathy. Also, if you can find it, take a few sublingual (under the tongue) B12 tablets each week. Both B6 and B12 are extremely important in the nerve pathways. Plus you may end up with some macrocytic anemia during your chemo and B12 helps to solve that.

Gout, what is your hemoglobin? I got down to 6 during my treatments and I was so out of breath that walking to the parking lot at work did me in. And yet, I had a normal left ventricular ejection fraction on my echo, and happy, pretty breath sounds. So it was just un-oxygenated blood. Moon is right, it can really wipe you out.

Lee, I love your new picture! You look happy and healthy :-) I hope Arizona is treating you well.

Yay Vivian, you go! And Liz, I've had indigestion ever since starting chemo and that was never a problem for me before. I kind of wonder if we get a little dependent on the prilosec they give us in our IV during chemo. I had weekly chemos for 12 weeks, so I got a ton of the stuff. My final chemo was at the end of last February and I still take prilosec to calm things down.

LeeA Gina went to the show on her own. I went with ACS. One of our survivors couldn't make it so I asked if Gina could sit with us (since she too was walking but in a different town). I'm so glad she did. I think it really made a great show for her. I was with Gina as she started the journey. We met on bc.org.

Hi, Ladies, checking in after a year. I'm doing well and had only mild cording this year, for the first time since surgery August 2011. Strange. But I did start exercising more, so maybe that is why. I have no side effects to Tamoxifen. I lost weight. Can't believe SpecialK had another thing to deal with, sorry. Stay well everyone! I had no problems with Herceptin, LizA17. Lago and other Illinois Ladies, great job with the walk and I donated what I could.

Thanks guys! I am slightly less itchy, and trying to take lessons from this experience - definitely am allergic to steri-strips! Am going back to the doctor on Monday so they can check out the reaction - but I am in less pain, more itch! I appreciate the good wishes!

NancyJill glad youve been doing well. SpecialK. Allergies to steristrips? Owie! Not fun. Benedryl here she comes! Goutlaw, my PS never said he couldnt work on me. I am a very large eomen and he has said a few things like I will need the bigger size implants because of my body shape. But he gas never said he wouldnt do something. As a matter of fact the ONLY doctor I know of that DIDNT want to operate on some one I know was, are you ready for this?, A BARIATRIC surgeon. LOL. you cant make things like that up. She wasnt that large either.

    Much love to all.
