anyone else following the news from the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium? Lots of interesting stuff... Especially for us her2 pos ladies.

My most significant take is that it seems the medical community is seriously considering LESS treatments in many situations.

This quote struck a chord with me and it is counterintuitive so I want to share. I hope I remember this if I am fortunate enough to go recurrence/ disease free for a long time.

my eyebrows and lashes were the last to fall out and the last to come back, 3 years PFC and they're still thin.

3 yrs post rads and my ribs and clavicle are still painful to the touch, and movement, and deep breathing. I've been told that is it's normal! Go figure;-)

You are right! It is very misleading . Apparently there is a small subset of women who can benefit in prevention but the side effects as we know are very significant !

LizA some people do come back slowly but I would ask your on about taxotere induced alopecia. It's not common but it does happen. My eyebrows and lashes are much thinner but I know that's due to Anastrozole. I think I've manage to keep most of my eyebrows because I started painting Minoxidil on them.

OK a really big thank you to all of you that wrote a couple months ago on the pills situation. And a big one to my mother. I have since been very well and very busy , it turns out the only thing I ever knew was being a wife and a mother I really never worked.  I raised all 4 of my children. Anyway in this time frame my grandson was taken away from my one son and his girl friend went in to a foster home I was shocked and for once in a long time I realized he the grandson needed me as much as I needed him well today I was just told by the case worker that I will be having the little one in my home right after the first of the year....

On a different note the spotting that I was starting to get,  my doctor thinks after almost 2 years that my female organs are waking up from chemo  WOW Almost  2 years later.... Today I am 2 years cancer survivor... I   had an vaginal ultra sound today we will see... sorry about the TMI...

AND a big thank you to all of you and this site...

Thanks Ang, and congratulations on the 2 years and the little one coming to you! I'm so glad you are doing better, but never be ashamed of the tough times. We all go through them and all need to be better at asking for help when we do.

Latisse Ladies! I promise. I have brows better than before chemo, and my lashes are very long and getting a bit thicker. During radiation I had NO lashes. It was bizarre!

Ashla, can you add more twitter people we should follow for all of this information?

ang7894 Yeah it can take 2 years or even longer for things to get back to normal. I think it took my 2 years to stop looking in the Walgreens circular to see if my brand of tampons were on sale. Hope you didn't get used to not looking Loopy

    Ang7894,

Sorry that the situation had to happen, but it's great that you are there for your GS. As for ONLY being a wife and mother - there's no only about it! To raise 4kids is a big deal, and now to raise your GS as well; I lift my hat off to you.

My last chemo was march2013, and I've had no periods since it started in August 2012. I have a gynae visit on Wednesday next week, I'm wondering whether I should ask her if I'd be better off having everything taken out......any thoughts?

Hi Nicky, Personally that was no issue for me, but I know my niece, in her mid 40-s had it done right away after all the chemo was done.??? She told me she didn't think twice about it. If that helps.

it does, thanks Camille! I'll be 43 in January, so in theory I have a few years yet where it's an issue for me. I think it'd be easier to have it all out, but it's never been suggested. Going to at least raise the possibility and I'll see what's said.

  • Hi girls....so I finished chemo yesterday and am feeling positive about going into he next phase of my recovery. Surgery will be on the list in January etc....  glad to hear that so many of you are doing well and looking so good!!

Pbrain...when did you start using Latisse.  I asked my MO about it a couple of months ago and she said not while on chemo.  Let me know becuase i can't wait to ask at the next appointment in january.  Not that I am a vain person, I am just trying to get a sense of normalcy back; lashes would be nice.

Girlstrong Glad that's over for u---after surgery are u done with chemo then? I hope so.

Thanks Ashla! I'm just starting to twitter and tweet and I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm following and being followed by the strangest people...

Girlstrong, I understand why your MO is saying that. I had lashes all through chemo and they were thick and long. After chemo, when I started radiation, seriously--overnight (!) they ALL fell out! I woke up the next morning and thought my mascara must be getting too old because I couldn't see any going on. I leaned over and looked in the mirror and I had absolutely not one lash left at all. Think of all the wishes I missed,

They grew back within a week, so all of a sudden I had them again...for oh, maybe 2 weeks and the same thing happened. What I learned is that lashes grow in a synchronized cycle after chemo, so they all fell out because new ones were ready to come in. I have no clue why they fall out again, but my boss had the same experience. So I bet your MO is just trying to save you some money. I started the latisse after radiation and use it on my brows and eyelashes. My lashes aren't as thick as they used to be, but they are seriously long and my brows are doing really well. I'm hooked.

So maybe wait until the lashes do their death song and then start? I do understand that desire to get back some normalcy. Patience, Grasshopper.

On the tampon topic, my best friend was having super heavy periods due to fibroids, so she had a hysterectomy. She'd buy boxes and boxes of tampons at Sam's so she asked if I needed any. I said sure, no problem especially since I knew she used the brand I liked (BFFs talk about this nonsense). So I arrive home to an enormous box on my front porch, mailed all the way from Philadelphia--a plethora of tampons! I say to myself "You'll never need to buy another tampon again..." Boy, was I right. Immediately after that arrival, I went into full-blown menopause and never had my period after that. Anyone want some ancient, but unused Playtex tampons? Har!!!

Ashla, that was hilarious!  thanks for posting.  Re the twitter feeds, I can make no sense of them.  I guess I have a strain of luddite in me.  How the heck are we supposed to understand anything useful about cancer research in 15 words or whatever twitter does??  I don't understand!!

    Congrats girlstrong and Pbrain!

Ok questions for those with a medical background-

So in this study, it says that high levels of immune cells in tumors may help identify which women will really benefit from Herceptin etc.  Is there any way of looking at one's path report and seeing whether that applies to you or not?
