Sandra,
Will be going to see the Grands in Kyle in May, so we will miss the Bluebonnets. Have many memories of them and taking the traditional pictures of family in the bluebonnets when my DD was alive! My Dad lived in Fredericksburg, we have been to the seed farm there. The wildflowers are lovely , when they are in bloom.
Diane, I have always battled weight, even when I was young and active. If I ate like a human, I gained weight. Now the Arimidex doesn't help, but I am trying to loose some I have gained. We will see what happens.
Like you all, in Ill. we are waiting for more snow, from the big west coast storm. It is supposed to get here Sunday night into Monday. Right now it's COLD. Was 0 the last 2 mornings.Told DH we Have to get a snowblower next year, no procrastinating. Of course that will keep snow away. Schools here are running out of snow days.
Going to a ladies tea at our church tomorrow. They do a good job. Us Baptists are great at food, have food and they will come!

I will greet this day with love in my heart.
And how will I do
this?
Henceforth will I look on all things with love and be born again.
I
will love the sun for it warms my bones;
yet I will love the rain for it
cleanses my spirit.
I will love the light for it shows me the way;
yet I
will love the darkness for it shows me the stars.
I will welcome happiness as
it enlarges my heart;
yet I will endure sadness for it opens my soul.
I
will acknowledge rewards for they are my due;
yet I will welcome obstacles
for they are my challenge.

O my !!!! Went over to this page from my quote. So....writing from memory ( never great ) and just got home from work just a bit ago.....so who knows what will come out of my mouth. Hooray for ? Mary ? or Diane finishing chemo. Well, as it is cumulative.....it seems like it takes the last one soooo long, but when you crest this one, oh how very sweet it will be.
The bluebonnets are beautiful. Well, really, I'll have to admit, I think of Texas as hundreds of miles of cactus. I know that is not true but you know how you associate words and names. Anyway.....makes me think of Texas with lots of new great thoughts.
Hooray - Hooray......tomorrow is my last long day at work....then, I'll go back on my regular light work schedule. I haven't minded so much at all, but am a bit happier when it is done as I'm used to being home a bit more to keep up with things and keep tabs on the sweet fellar' I live with here. He has fed my feral cats all week which sure makes me happy.
We are due for sleet and then snow tomorrow....oh joy !!!!! It won't happen until later on. I hope Dr. and Jo are home before it starts.....so I can get home too. Likely will happen that way.
See you tomorrow night.
Blessings
Jackie and
By the way......big welcome to Diane.

Jackie, I couldn't get the photo to load, but Google Houston azaleas. It's actually semi tropical (way to hot in the summer).

Wren.....beautiful. Pinks and blues, and one picture where they looked a "peachy" shade almost. I took a copy of that to put in my Picasa file.

Jackie: Before I moved to Texas, my memory reference was from the movie "Giant". Wren is right of course. Houston's more like Louisiana - hot & steamy most of the time. I know you're ready to kick back after your long week of work.

A big YAY!!! for Mary! Hope your taste buds return and you can start enjoying a new normal.

Here are Houston azaleas. The eastern part of the state has towering pine trees and looks completely different than San Antonio, even though it's only a few hours away.

Washington is like that too. West of the Cascade Mountains it is rainy and lush and temperate rain forest climate. We can grow almost anything that doesn't require a long summer or high heat. East of the mountains it is dry and hot in the summer, cold in the winter. They grow wheat, apples, potatoes, and have ranches. I have daffodils, crocus and primroses in bloom right now.

Wren, sounds idyllic! I'm researching the Seattle area right now. We'll be coming in two or three days before our Aug. 30 Alaska cruise so we can see at least a little part of your beautiful state.

Mary,
I had awful chemo brain. I had my last treatment on 12/1 /11. After all the steriods etc. wore off the chemo brain really set in. They put me on 2 different AL and I could not tolerate them. Then March 2012 I started Tamoxifen. It is more tolerable for me, but still has side effects. My chemo brain is finally getting better. I resigned my job at Sul Ross University on Feb. 28th, 2013. My director of the grant I was on was very supportive through the treatment, but then when the chemo brain set in she became a real B.
Hope things go well for you.

A Native American elder once described his own inner struggles in this manner:
"Inside of me there are two dogs. One of the dogs is mean and evil. The other
dog is good. The mean dog fights the good dog all the time." When asked which
dog wins, he reflected for a moment and replied, "The one I feed the
most."

Beautiful flowers Sandra. Wish I could grow a yard-full. I have tried but when it comes to the lawn tractor and mowing, Dh is Mario Andretti -- anything in his path is soon dispensed with and only a memory. Tried erecting little fences and barriers which always seemed to get "bumped" and fall down......and in short order...... they are gone along with the plantings. I gave up a few years ago. What little I have out there is all I will have.
First day off here and I am really enjoying it. I will make us some breakfast soon, but likely not going out. We got our dreaded sleet and was still coming down when we went out to feed the animals outside. Seemed to take a long time but I had things to catch up with out there. We are good now.
It wasn't so terribly cold out....not much for wind, but just nasty and having to be super careful walking on the sleet.
Wonderful day to sleep in which I did. I was looking forward to it and make the most of snuggling for a while under the covers.
I thought I would fall asleep early last night, but got interested in some older movies on t.v. on the TBS ( I think anyway ) channel. They were back from " 67 ". Dustin Hoffman in " The Graduate " and then " Guess Whose Coming To Dinner ". I have enjoyed almost all of the Dustin Hoffman movies.
I hope you are all going to have a fantastic day and won't have to go out if you don't want.....specially your weather is anything like mine.
Blessings

Jackie I hear you about the lawn tractor. I planted okra one time and my DH thought it was a weed and down it came. Actually I think that was the last time I planted a garden.
We are supposed to be 65 degrees today and 24 tonight.
Have a good day

We planted a cover crop at our community garden and someone thought it was weeds and pulled it all up.

Hi Ladies,
A cold day here and we had more snow last night so it is a good day to be lazy around the house. All our sons and grandkids called today to sing happy birthday. They were so sweet. Our GD who is 5 just kept talking and would not let her brothers have a word until our ds told her to give it a rest. For a little one who had a speech problem early on she is sure making up for it now. We will have four out of the seven Gkids here next weekend. Should be fun.
Edward750... I also had the lumpectomy with the mammosite. My oncotype test was also low so I opted out of chemo.
The flower pictures are beautiful. My DH is the gardner here. I can not keep a plant alive for some reason.
Mary.... congratulations, hope your taste buds are back to normal soon.
Jackie... enjoy your day off and relax.Hope everyone has a great day.

Thank you IllinoisLady- I didn't have chemo; RADS only and they were not bad at all; finished them last July. I am 3 years out from my DX. BTW I watched those movies last night and In the Heat of the Night 2. I like Dustin Hoffman too. He was good n that movie and Kramer vs Kramer. Did you know Anne Bancroft was only 35 when she made that movie? They had to really do serious makeup work on her to make her look older. Diane

Oh drat. I apparently got on the movie channel a bit late. I also REALLY loved " In the Heat Of The Night". Rod Stieger ( sp. ? ) was so perfect I felt in that movie. Always loved the part where he says...I got the motive which is murder, and the body which is dead. And of course, Sydney Poiter ( sp.? again ) just trounces all over Stieger but at the end finds himself respecting Sydney.
I didn't know that about Anne Bancroft. I think Dustin Hoffman also played in Midnight Cowboy which I totally adored as well as Rain Man.
Later I became a fan of a lot of the movies Michael Douglas did. I do like movies and fell in love with quite a few from the mid-60's on. I don't get to go as much as I would like anymore, but maybe one one of these days we will get to make it a little more of a regular feature again.
Has sleeted here all day, and started to see mixed in snow just before dark. I'm really getting over-tired of the winter weather. Well, I think the old saying about March says something about coming in like a lion so it can go out like a lamb. It is coming in pretty rough here.
Blessings

Sandra, TX is a state of extreme weather. We always watch your weather because it's usually headed our way!
Off to WW meeting this morning. My niece with the mental problems and the three kids is going with me. I've offered to pay the monthly fee since she can't afford to. I thought the social interaction at the meetings would be good for her. Plus it's something we can do together. My sister, the grandma, is watching the 3 kids for the time it takes. They're off all week for Mardi Gras.
It's cool (cold for us) and cloudy. Definitely a jeans day.

Good Morning from a snowy white woods here at my house. Interesting that TEXAS, or parts or it anyway, is having extremes too. Well, maybe it always has. I admit.......my notice of other areas is often scant. I'm something like Carole and watching for where and what is coming towards us and just forcing the rest to deal with whatever is happening without my commiseration.
I think Chevy's area ( Colorado ) is having some non-decent weather too.
Well, I think we will warm later in the week and I'm so hoping this is the last of the 'harsh' winter weather. will be cloudy this week maybe...much more than I like as I need sun to really bloom. Have had the thought that maybe this coming yr. I need to get some of those special light bulbs that approximate sunshine. Well, just a thought.
Hope Monday is good for all. Carole....good idea doing the WW with your niece. Like you I'm thinking maybe it will be good stimulation for her.
See you all later.
Blessings

I'm down 4 lbs this week! Yay! I have followed the WW guidelines very closely.
A good friend and I went to see PHILOMENA today and it was excellent. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't already seen it.

Happy Mardi Gras! The weather is crappy with temps in the 30's and a forecast for rain and also sleet here on the north shore. The New Orleans tv shows will be showing the parades and the festivities in the French Quarter all day. There are already lots of people out on the parade routes with their cooking grills set up on the "neutral grounds.". Mardi Gras goes on no matter what.
I don't plan to go out today. We're having morning coffee in the living room and dh just lit the fireplace.

Keep your mind on the great and splendid things you would like to do; and then, as the days go gliding by, you will find yourself unconsciously seizing upon the opportunities that are required for the fulfillment of your desire, just as the coral insect takes from the running tide the elements it needs. Picture in your mind the able, earnest, useful person you desire to be, and the thought you hold is hourly transforming you into that particular individual.

Yay Carole......good to hear that you are seeing results. We all benefit from positive inspirations whatever they may be.
Another long day today. My sister-in-law is in the hospital with Stage 3 lung cancer. Had a feeding tube put in on Friday, but I'm sure it is more palliative than anything else. She is down to 68 pounds and struggles to talk most of the time. Arms like sticks now and I'm told legs not much better. We were at the hospital a good part of the day yesterday and will be there today for a while. The two daughters and one baby grand-daughter are here. So, a lot going on .
I was reluctant to say much here. I think sometimes it is hard to hear cancer stories, but I get a bit preoccupied and in case I say something off the wall having nothing to do with anything, at least you will all know why.
I'll be checking in later. See you then.
Blessings

Jackie,
We all know what a hard route the cancer journey can be, on everyone in the family. Praying for you all.
We missed out on the last snow. I'm soooo sad, NOT! My daughter in maryland got about 6 inches and another snow day! It was 2 degrees when I got up. At least the sun is shining here. We have about 9 deer in the back yard since the snow. One knocked the bird feeder down yesterday getting something to eat! Gonna have to buy a new feeder. My cold is better, still some cough, but going to lunch with my friend and have to shop for a baby shower gift.
Been trying to loose some weight too. Lost 3 lbs and now at a standstill. Trying to stick to it! I have never been able to eat like a normal person , and with the Arimidex and retirement ,well what can I say?!
