I was telling my rad tech today about the Buster Brown shoe stores when I was little.  She couldn't believe we actually "stepped up" and saw the X-ray of all the bones in our feet to make sure you got shoes that fit correctly.  Looking at some of these shoes Sandra's posted, I'd like to go back & see how my toes looked even in the pointed heels of the late 1950s & early 1960s.

Chevy - I'm all for Birkenstocks or SAS or Clarks or Easy Spirit-Travel Time.  It it's true you still wear any kind of heals, more power to you, but maybe you should wait until the ice is gone.

Oh WOW!  You are ALL little chits!  Ha, ha!  Love the shoes!   I don't think I could even try ON a pair of those!

Yes, I couldn't figure out what Cammi was talking about in one of her posts..... well, any one of them, so I had to call her!    She was busy "working" so she says....  all I know is,  all that noise in the back-ground, and that LOUD music, made it hard to understand her!

Sounded like some sort  of party to me!   Work? whatever....   See, I like to talk and act stupid, I mean stupider when DH is gone....  Otherwise he thinks I am totally stupid.   So I sneak around and do "things" whilst I am not being monitored!

Okay..... gotta go try on shoes.... like these....

You gals are too funny this morning.  I like seeing all the shoes that turned up here as well.   My cousin turned me onto some shoes Sketchers  sells.  They are called Go Walks.  I don't easily get impressed, but I really, really do like the ones I have.  They have a very soft material on top that just holds your foot in...no matter whether you have corns, bunions, whatever ( those too may be almost the same ), and the sole is very sturdy with raised areas that cushion your feet as you walk.

In the scheme of things.....I think they are excellent, but not sure about arches in them.  Still, I can buy thin arch inserts if need be, but really love how foot conforming they have turned out to be.  No pain, no "rubbing" and an easy comfortable walk.

Thinking about all of you today on this lovely morning.  Sun is shinning and it will be warm again......there is definitely lots of mud and it will get muddier I would imagine......but oh how nice.  Next week, well, I think it will get back to a lot cooler -- but sure hoping not the artic type.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

I don't have any shoe pictures, Chevy, but there is a shoe museum in Toronto for anyone up there.

Mimi.....what fun a shoe museum.  That would be nearly like a time capsule.  I do recall some of the older styles that were just going out of vogue as I was growing up....they had a sturdy heel, a rather large one, like a high heel, only they were lace up.  Not bad, but they were going at the time.

    Something like this:

    image

but the whole shoe was covered and it hah laces in it too.....I think this is just the dressier version.

Jackie, Illinois Lady.  That shoe looks like a fancy version of what my grandmother wore.  She would me 126 years old now if she were alive.  The museum even has stuff from earlier centuries that kings wore.  Height heels and platform shoes are not a new idea.

Finished my last rad, had lunch with friends, and received a celebration bouquet . friends make some days perfect!

Congratulations on finishing rads, Mimi!  Next year this time it will be a distant memory.

Today was wonderful.  It was a little bit foggy and overcast when our women's golf group began playing the scheduled event.  Soon the sun came out and it got downright hot.  Afterwards there was a meeting and buffet lunch.  I was hungry and ate a good meal so no dinner for me tonight.  I will fix some stir fry chicken and colored peppers and onion for dh, who is out playing golf now.

I wear shoes on my podiatrist's ok list, SAS sandals and New Balance (higher numbers) athletic shoes.  I have inserts to put into the shoes, though not the sandals!

Hello to everyone.  Hope you all had a good day.

    imageMimi.....lots and lots of congrats.

Isn't it great to have your rads done.  They were actually boring for me.  I had 7 full weeks of them and had to go 75 miles from home and stay in a motel all week in order to have them done.  Being in a motel gets very tiresome, but I did get to come home on the week-ends, do laundry, clean house and otherwise fill in what would have been empty hours.  Dh was home all week making sure I had something to do every week-end when I got home.  It was ok though.   Just a huge relief when they were over.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

WOW - Balloons, good wishes, and lemon (my favorite, how did you know) cake!  It does feel good to have the radiation done!  Thanks for noting the day.  I got a beautiful bouquet from a former work colleague, too.  Another piece of good luck.  You all know I am traveling to Arizona next week.  My friend actually sent a packing list sort of like the summer came list girl scouts get.  She has taken all the problems out of deciding what I need.  I'll have to modify it a little for the no-bra look, but I am so thankful to have all the guesswork taken out of packing.  It may be my imagination, but it seems the Domoboro soak has already helped the itchy feeling for longer and longer.  Today I'm going with my daughter to a pediatric dental appointment for my grandson since I have more experience with dental work than her.  He has a broken tooth and may need a root canal at age three.  Apparently this is not uncommon.  Thought you ladies might enjoy she admits to feeling guilty because she didn't make it to any of my appointments, but still needs me to help her.  So at age 66 I'm still a need mother, as are all of you with children.  See you tomorrow!  Be confident to all of you still getting radiant.  You will be done soon and feel happy and fine.

Had the diagnostic yesterday followed by an ultrasound on my left breast for the itching.  I was so relieved that all came out clear.  My left breast still itches but the doctor did not see anything wrong. My PCP gave me a cream to use and hopefully that will help.  Thank God and you ladies for support!!

Good news, Dwill!  You must be so relieved.

Today was very muggy.  I just turned on the a/c in the house to dry the air out a bit.  I didn't do much today.  I walked this morning about 40 min. in the neighborhood.  This afternoon I took my mother to have her hair done.  She is feeling much, much better as a result of her procedures at the pain clinic.  I hope the relief lasts.

There's a possibility of thunder storms tonight.

Rita, how are you getting along?

    Greetings to everyone.

Dwill....I'm thrilled for you.   There is some quote about most of what we worry about never happens...meaning that we spend far too much time getting upset about "possibilities" and to an extent that is true.  But at the same time.....I would rather I think worry a little anyway.  I don't want to walk around as though I'm impervious to things that COULD happen as I was so caught off guard my stoke and the cancer.  But I do try to practice not worrying overmuch till I know what it is I need to worry about.

Just need to learn to choose, but it is not easy.  So....I'm just glad that it turned out to be the NOTHING we were all hoping for, for you.

Stopped raining and hope the wind dies way back.  Wild rainstorm......way too much wind and the rain pummeling down like nobody's business.  I was out and about getting soaked and happily drying out with chicken pot pie in the oven.

Hope you all have g beautiful evening.

    Blessings

    Jackie

Dwill - have they suddested Domeboro astringent to relieve itch?  Worked miracles for me.  It's usually for poison ivy, so you may need a pharmacy to order.  It's OTC usually.

    Hi Everyone,

Enjoyed catching up with everyone's news;  I also remember the 'foot' xray box at the shoe store.  Plus when I was 5, they used an xray machine to burn off my plantar warts...lucky my feet are ok (or I think they are!)

I've been wrapped up lately in a serious side effect from my chemo #2 on 2/5.   Both hands blistered and became a blazing red.  It got so bad that I had to use 5% Lidocaine ointment to numb the skin so I could get relief.  Finally this Wed I saw a relief mo who diagnosed a severe reaction to Taxotere and discontinued the Taxotere for future chemo.  I just hope My regular mo agrees with him.  I'm not thrilled that Adriamycin is to be substituted...oh well "this too shall pass"

Hope you all have a great weekend......:)

Checking in....Chevy, glad you are home and back here keeping it lively.  Love the shoes...
I had to read back a few days and I had a lot of laughs...thanks Cammi and others!

We had one of those melting/freezing days and I could barely walk in the parking lot at work.  My boss took a fall- he went airborn and landed on his back...same walkway I use.  Lucky for me, I just shuffled along.

Congrats on finishing rads, Mimi.  Take good care of yourself and stay rested.  I think I was more tired from the driving 60 miles a day than from and SEs from rads.  My itchy rash cleared up right away - in 2 weeks it was gone.
Jackie, when you did rads you said you stayed in a hotel each week?  What did you do with your spare time?  Did you read a ton of books?
I worked every day with rads until December holidays.  I was able to relax in January.

rabbit, so sorry to hear about your allergic reaction.  That is very frightening and frustrating.  I hope the new drug is easier on you.

Carole, it is nice to hear things (including weather) are back to normal for you.  I am sure your mother is very happy to have you back.  You do such nice things with her.  How is your niece doing?

Rita, I hope you can keep moving through fear and pain.  What an experience...
For your ride back home, maybe you can find a massage seat pillow.  I got one for a gift and thought it was ridiculous until I plugged it in to the car on a 5 hour trip.  It worked great.  It kept my muscles from cramping up in the car.  Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Mommarch, how is DD doing as an outpatient?

Sending positive thoughts and hugs to everyone here...
    Enjoy the thaw.

    Hi ladies,

Been gone to visit my son and his lady in Vegas, got back last night. Brought a great cold back too, hope it's not one of those 3 week coughs. It was lovely in vegas, in the 70s and sunny, now back to 2 feet of snow and ice, and rain tomorrow! We were late out of Vegas and had to sprint  to the next terminal , almost missed the flight, were the last ones on. DH rode in a wheel chair, he never cud have  done the stress test I did, to get there. Stayed in Green Valley , where my son lives, lovely hotel, better than the strip.Been doing catch up today.

Love the shoe talk, at least I'm not the only one who buys shoes for comfort any more! Wear mostly New Balance sneaks and Rockports. Low heel at the most, and they bother my big toe after a while. Saw some today  on facebook, you can remove the heels and put on anything down to a flat! Great idea. I remember the  shoe xray machines too. Maybe that's why my feet kill me now! My mother had me wearing Buster Brown , brown scuff toe oxfords, how I hated them.

Will try and read more tomorrow, bed time. Good night. Jean

bonnets....wish you had not brought that cold back with you, but so great to get to see your son.  You came back to some pretty bad weather, huh !!!!  I'm praying for Spring but knowing it will be awhile yet.....doesn't really ever start until March and Apr. here.  Lovely temps the past couple of days though it brought a major rain-storm and there were lots of tornadoes in the state.  It will warm a bit today as well, but there quite a nip to the wind outside.  Just glad the sky is blue and mainly clear letting the sun out bright and shiny.

Not sure what today will bring, but I think I'm ready for it.

    Blessings

    Jackie
