Thanks ladies! Yep it's a wig. I'm sooooo ready to get rid of it though. You are all so sweet!
0 -
JK, you look mahvalous! Is that a wig? Holy crap, I should have done a better job picking out mine...Linda, good luck tomorrow. You'll be just fine. I have to tell you, my lumpectomy was my first surgery ever and I was stoned out of my gourd afterwards. I think I was kind of funny because I remember people laughing with me (or maybe at me).
I too went through this alone and there are a few others on here (Cypher and Cami) and you can absolutely do it. Chemo is a pain, makes you drag around and feel like death on a saltine, but they have so many ways to help you and you will be amazed by the wonderful people who will be treating you. Like Fluff said, the lack of control is seriously creepy, but I gave my team 100% trust and was actually crying at my last Herceptin...hugs from Indiana!
BTW, anybody notice how beautiful JK's skin looks from chemo? I had the best skin of my life during that ordeal. I got compliments! I never get compliments on my skin. One of my coworkers just returned from a medical leave for BC today, and her skin is glowing. We need to bottle that crap.

JK u do look beautiful--and u'r done YYAAAYYY
Trish I have to ask had u ever had a seizure before or after? OMG I never heard of that how scary--that's more scary than the chemo.
Surgery tomorrow I hope all goes well for u and please let us know (my brain) it's Linda right?

JK, Congrats! Happy for you. I have to add to the chorus, you look great! The wig is lovely and your skin is beautiful too.
Sorry PBrain, but even if my skin was amazing and it was, I wouldn't want the other side effects. And you know some of them too! LOL

Cami - no never had another one, and hadn't had them before either. It was just my brain telling my body I didn't want to do this! It actually wasn't that scary for me (I was pretty much out of it lol) but was pretty scary for my DH - I felt sorry for him afterwards, he was very concerned, poor love.
Trish0 -
Trish, Well i bet you woke up the nurses a bit too! And in my mind I can see the expression on their faces! They're looking like but, but, we haven't even put anything IN yet! LOL you gotta laugh. We really do everything in our own way, don't we? LOL

jKOmaha: congrats yo you on finishing chemo!!!! You should feel accomplished. Absolutely love the pic you posted and thought for sure you had some novel chemo regimen that allowed you to keep your long lovely hair.....wigs sure have come a long way. My skin was also great on chemo, now I'm back to sporadic breakouts. No wonder people do aesthetic chemical peels. Big business....
Pbrain: loved your chemo analogy "death on a saltine" ; made me laugh and oh so true.

Congrats JK. You've made it through the major hurdle. You've seen the light at the end of the tunnel! hip, hip, hooray

JK-congratulations! You do look amazing! I gave my wigs away without even wearing them-I looked like a serial killer stalker. Wore scarves and hats. Pbrain-death on a saltine. If I can remember it through my continued chemo brain will use it. But doubt I will remember.
I did mine alone. Thank god $%*^&^& ex husband gone. Had wonderful friends-but my kids and family were @ minimum 250 miles away. I parked in the chemo chair. Napped. And most days went to work after. But worked in a health science center-so there were lots of beds in clinical labs-so could nap if needed. And did.
Pb-have been meaning to ask about your hat. Love it .
Have been reading and not posting. Adjusting to my 3rd time on Femara. Nasty little drug. Starting settlement with ##$ man. And awaiting birth of first grandchild. That seems to take much energy. I did cut out the quilt Saturday.
My crazy experience with herceptin is improving. EF that dropped to high 20s 30ish has climbed all the way to high 30s 40ish. Yeah heart! Having my port out April 1st. Causing anxiety as I did not finish the full course of Taxol or the Taxotere I was switched to after taxol. And 20 of the 52 weeks of Herceptin. Have only used the port for blood draws since late summer/early fall-but it was there if needed. I did not get to ring the bell, hold up a sign, or have the final chemo party. My MO recommends removal as it has become sluggish. Said if I need a port again I will need a new one anyway.
Today was almost 80. As was yesterday. Saturday was 60 with horrible blowing winds-actually blowing dirt. Then it rained mud. Even my dog has allergies.
Much love to each.

Moon - I apparently woke the whole chemo area up! The nurse said later she was calling out to another nurse to come help, and that nurse kept thinking "ok, ok, I'll get there in a minute" thinking she needed help with the port lol. I was a celebrity for the next few visits, even the reception staff were asking how I was.
I meant to say congrats to JK too! Yay! That's a big milestone, and what a lovely pic of you - love the wig. I looked like a serial stalker in my wig too - only wore it twice.
Trish0 -
congrats jk! I had to laugh at your line -- mostly a lurker who asks questions in a panic and then gets great support. I can totally relate!!
Death on a saltine, hilarious! ... but Linda, I was lucky, I only felt like that here and there, mostly I felt like I was all of the sudden just extremely out of shape. I think part of the reason it wasn't SO bad for me was that I made "me" a priority and slept in pretty much all I wanted, got lots of exercise (but veeerrrry slowly), and generally took it easy on myself. I do think keeping my hair really helped me psychologically and in terms of activity levels, BUT they are also an expensive PITA so not for everyone.
Susan, glad to hear there is some recovery in the EF department ... and raining mud? Wow.

jk, i was sincerely also wondering why chemo didnt let you lose your hair! best wig i have ever seen! any body want a slightly used really bad one? lol boyfriend told me, it looks fine. not! i gave it away to my wavy friend. he likes wigs! the best part about that whole experience, was it was at my tx center, and jacklyn smith, and ybarra, a famous hair dresser, were there, and my wavy friend fabian was there with me, just thrilled to meet them! they stopped and talked to us after their lunch, mostly i think because f was so charmed by them. but jacklyn did take me aside, and we did talk about bc. one of a few brushes with fame, living in la! normally not impressed, but she was sweet & attentive-and real. and i got a bad wig, with glamour shots after! sorta fun.
PBRAIN! i always loved that hat, good for your friend for giving it to you. but i also like the sweater or robe or scarf, or whatever it is that you are wearing with it! Love to all!

Susan! So glad to hear from you. I am so happy your EF is coming up. Here's hoping it continues to recover til you are even better! Also congrats on the expected grandchild! Too bad for the rain.
Kathec that's awesome that you met a famous person! They usually hide !
Much love to all.

jk-great wig!
My skin was great too during chemo, and now. I can't stand the least little bit of peach fuzz on my face. I either have a dermaplane, or I did wax it once, but that was fairly painful.
Pbrain-since I spent a week in Florida in January parked in the sun all day every day, I was hoping it would have just shot up, lol. Interesting info on all the tests.
I was just listening to a commercial for a new pill or that is supposed to be estrogen free and help with vaginal dryness. I swear when they read the side effects, it sounded exactly like Tamoxifen. I can't remember the name of it, but seriously, they read uterine cancer, blood clots, etc.
0 -
Found it. Osphena- read this. It has to be something like Tamoxifen.
Most Important Information you should know about Osphena
Osphena (ospemifene) works like estrogen in the lining of the uterus, but can work differently in other parts of the body.
Taking estrogen alone or Osphena may increase your chance for getting cancer of the lining of the uterus, strokes, and blood clots. Vaginal bleeding after menopause may be a warning sign of cancer of the lining of the uterus. Your healthcare provider should check any unusual vaginal bleeding to find out the cause, so tell them right away if this happens while you are using Osphena.
You and your healthcare provider should talk regularly about whether you still need treatment with Osphena.
Call your healthcare provider right away if you get changes in vision or speech, sudden new severe headaches, and severe pains in your chest or legs with or without shortness of breath, weakness and fatigue. Osphena should not be used if you have unusual vaginal bleeding; have or have had certain types of cancers (including cancer of the breast or uterus); have or had blood clots; had a stroke or heart attack; have severe liver problems; or think you may be pregnant. Tell your healthcare provider if you are going to have surgery or will be on bed rest.
Possible side effects
Serious but less common side effects can include stroke, blood clots, and cancer of the lining of the uterus.
Common side effects can include hot flashes, vaginal discharge, muscle spasms and increased sweating.
Tell your healthcare provider about all of the medicines you take as some medicines may affect how Osphena works. Osphena may also affect how other medicines work.

just read it is in the same family. Yet, it says if you already had BC, you shouldn't take it. So weird. I get the differences, but still...

those are some pretty huge side effects to deal with vaginal dryness!

kathec, that's a fun story. I am sure that I see celebrities a lot more often than I think but just don't recognize them when they are just dressed like normal people. I did see Sarah Jessica Parker once at a restaurant and -- I kid you not -- that actress from Falling Skies (the one who played Karen) knocked on my door one day when I was binge-watching episodes of it thanks to amazon prime. I'm like, you are so totally evil! Usually other people have to point out that SJP is sitting over there or whatever, but that one was hard to miss.

I agree-when I first saw the commercial I thought-why are they ordering tamox for vaginal dryness. Looked up the drug-and then really wondered. Seriously. The large number of slick in a tube agents available next to tampons and someone takes tamox?
Raining mud. Well, almost. The dust storms in southern NM and West Texas can almost be blinding. Actually are if you make the mistake of going outside. When the rain started the dust was so thick on my car and the driveway and pots it looked like it was raining mud. The rain mixed with dirt on my car and mud started to drip down the sides. Disgusting. Nothing grows here but cedar and nasty yellow things in the ditch that make me sneeze. And chili peppers. I am not a native so I can be a bit disrespectful. Or move. Someday.

good morning all! I'm so far behind I had to jump pages and pages to write this! I'm sorry, I have no IDE what anyone is up to or how you're all doing. Just know that I think about you all and I hope you're all doing well
I'm ok, still at home, still on the pump. The dose was upped again yesterday so I'm not quite with it! I'm hoping they'll go ahead with the operation soon, but no news yet. I'll let you know as soon a I have news, in the meantime know that I'm thinking of you all, and knowing you're all out there rooting for me is keeping me going.
Hugs,
Nicky

I am officially declaring myself three years NED. Pet scan came back with no evidence of malignancy. No idea what is causing the rib pain, but I think I am just going to suck it up and deal with it. Maybe take celebrex to see if that helps, or see what kind of natural things are out there for arthritis conditions. If nothing is showing up, I don't know where else to look and what test to have, lol.
So, going back to some hard core exercising, as much as my toe/foot will let me, and going to change back to my healthier diet. (Im saying this as I just polished off a cookie).
I am giving myself peace of mind for two years. I will worry again at five if nothing happens!
Linda-healing energy coming your way for your surgery. Take it easy and let yourself recover. After the first couple weeks, I used a lot of time to sit outside in the warm weather and read a book and watch the flowers grow, literally. In all my life and career, I had never done anything like that. I don't have that personality. but with the chemo and other things, it was so nice on the days I was tired to just be on the lounger, napping and reading, listening to birds, etc.
