Fluff:  Are you on Arimidex?  I've had rib pain since starting it and was frightened in the beginning and the onc just sent me for an xray.  It's the same side as my surgery and thus rads.  Once says all that crazy pain is usually from the Arimidex.

    Congrats on 3 years NED.

No I'm suggesting our mad scientist (Pbrain) should not use Abbey Normal. Your name is a new paragraph

ok, that whole line of comments made me laugh. Was like reading "Who's on first,....."

Arlene, I am not on Arimidex yet. Still on Tamoxifen. I am afraid my onc is going to suggest an AI in the near future, and I am not sure I wouldn't just prefer to stay on Tamoxifen. Have you had hair thinning? And I don't need any more joint pain than I already have. I had a bmx, so surgery on both sides but no rads. If I poke around enough on the left, it might feel a little tender, but nothing like the right side.

And I could be best friends with Abbie Normal!

Fluff:  You really kind of get used to the pain.  I don't notice nearly as much stiffness with it almost 3 years.  No hair problems.  My hair came back just as wild and thick as before so if it did thin, that would be ok.  Although, I wonder if the Arimidex is working sometimes since I don't have the thinning.  Is joint pain a side effect from Tamoxifen?

Fluff, looks like the drug is tamox with an added twist.  It is a SERM (selective estrogen receptor modulator) like Tamoxifen, but it is also an estrogen agonist, which means it helps estrogen to bind to receptors too.  It blocks some, making others more open to receive the estrogen that is around.

Tamoxifen kind of does that too with the receptors in the bone.  That is why it is kinder to our bones than arimidex which just shuts down the production of estrogen all over the body.  Then, no matter how open the receptors are, there isn't any to bind.

There, a deeply scientific discussion brought to you by the Pbrained doctor ;-)

CONGRATS FLUFF!!!  You are doing great and are an inspiration!  And my brother "bruised" a rib when he was a youth, he was working under his Mustang and it fell off the jack (he broke his wrist too).  After pins and surgery for the wrist, he said the rib hurt more and much longer...maybe you hurt it in your two recent falls?

    Congrats on 3 years Fluff!

PBRAIN thanks for the info. It's good to have someone answer those questions for us.

Nicky glad you dropped in. I hope you get your surgery soon. We'll you might as well enjoy being drugged out of your mind since you don't have a choice!

Linda. Heal fast! Hope sx went well.

Eileen and everyone wondering about Abby Normal- in Young Frankenstien ( and that is Frhaaank in steen )! LOL! Igor, the mad scientists assistant is not too smart. He takes the brain for the monster from the bottle marked as AB NORMAL. So when asked by the scientest which brain he used he says Abby Normal.... which of course makes the monster just a bit abnormal. LOL Now, PUT ZEE CANDLE BACK!!!!

Nicky, that is absolutely right, we are all rooting for you here!

    Linda -- good luck!

Fluff -- that is such a relief!  I am so glad you have hit 3 years NED.  Maybe you should make a master list of all the symptoms that have been bugging you in the last six months and the next 3 so next time you start to freak out you can refer to your list and say -- oh but I had that symptom 3 mos before my pet scan and my pet came out clear, so it must be random whateverness.  I have a mental list and I have that conversation with myself a lot....

Yeah the trunk of the car was fun. There were 8 of us kids so a carful was all of us. I think the price was 3$ for the carload. Of course that was 50! Years ago....

Princess that movie was hysterical, of course I love Mel Brooks sense of humor. And High Anxiety --the hospital for the very very very nervous. And drive-in movies were so fun. I saw Rosemary's baby with my then husband and I was pregnant at the time--that's the only movie that ever bothered me. LOL But I saw he wasn't making anymore money so I relaxed a bit.

I hope everyone has a good day today or at least a decent one and I still love to hear times of NED he's a good partner to keep.

Linda that's fantastic. I am glad you are doing well. Now remember our mantra: just because you can, DOESN'T mean you SHOULD!  It bears repeating. You may feel great but don't over do. Follow the instructions they give on discharge. And remember to take your oral pain pills for at least the first day you go home. All that moving and twisting is rough. Because your body is still clearing out the stuff from sx you may not feel much til you get home. So heal fast!

    Much love.
