Yeah i hope it goes easy for her. Notice she doesn't dye her hair either! Neither do my sisters or myself. At least one of our genes is a good one! LOL.

    Happy Easter to all.

Wonderful Passover to those who just celebrated that Springtime holiday and Bright Blessings to all of any Faith in this time of renewal.

MOON!!  You look so super cute in that picture!  You guys all have the same beautiful smile!  I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt.  One of my friend's Mom did the same thing.  She'd lost her husband and was depressed and just let the breast cancer do its thing.  I can't imagine that but I know women do it.  I am glad she is at peace with it.

Cami, as usual, you crack me up!

Happy Easter and Passover to everyone!  Another beautiful year for all of us!!

Moon.Blessings to your family. My grandma chose the same many years ago. She was loved and supported to the end. Now that I have been through the process-I I believe her death to be much more peaceful.

Pbrain-i cannot remember who posted the hat like yours. But I want one. I have hair-of such-that still sheds. I feel the need to have a hat like yours though. Purchase locations?

Happy Easter, Passover, Chocolate Bunny Ears.

Another step closer to a test for recurrence.."

Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center investigators report they have designed a blood test that accurately detects the presence of advanced breast cancer and also holds promise for precisely monitoring response to cancer treatment.

The test, called the cMethDNA assay, accurately detected the presence of cancer DNA in the blood of patients with metastatic breast cancers up to 95 percent of the time in laboratory studies. The findings were described in the April 15 issue of the journal Cancer Research.

Currently, there is no useful laboratory test to monitor patients with early stage breast cancer who are doing well, but could have an asymptomatic recurrence, says Saraswati Sukumar, Ph.D., who is the Barbara B. Rubenstein Professor of Oncology and co-director of the Breast Cancer Program at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. Generally, radiologic scans and standard blood tests are indicated only if a woman complains of symptoms, such as bone aches, shortness of breath, pain, or worrisome clinical exam findings. Otherwise, routine blood tests or scans in asymptomatic patients often produce false positives, leading to additional unnecessary tests and biopsies, and have not been shown to improve survival outcomes in patients with early stage breast cancer who develop a recurrence."

  • Hi all! I have been taking a much needed break from "the boards" in order to hold on to my sanity. I am coming up on 1-year from diagnosis and the looming anniversary it is proving to be kind of difficult, so it's best for me to stay a bit oblivious to certain realities, haha. I keep looking at everything in terms of "last year at this time I was...".

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello!

Rozem ~ Have you had your bone scan? How did everything go?

Karen ~ Really sorry about the new cancer in the nasal passage, what a crazy incidental finding! I will be thinking of you as you begin working to fight this new a-hole.

    Moon ~ Really sorry to hear about your Aunt. {{{HUGS}}}

Ashla ~ Interesting article! I will be interested to see if they discover that this blood test CAN help to prolong life expectancy of people with advanced disease, because if not, it seems it would be lumped with the other "unnecessary" tests.

As for me, I have my first "well woman" exam tomorrow morning and I am pretty much terrified that they will discover that my "girly parts" are all a hot mess. Those appts always made me nervous and NOW I almost can't handle it. I know chemo can mess things up {as far as pap test results} and now, of course, there is the tamoxifen and zoladex, so who KNOWS what's going on in there. I hate this crap. :(

Off to start our day and head to the grocery store, you know, to buy some HEALTHY FOOD to detox from all this damn Easter candy. :)

TwinMamaHeather good to see you. My 1st gyno appointment was 3 months after chemo so no pap for me. Too early. I remember him saying "everything looks fantastic." My gyno gets very excited about things looking good Loopy

But as you know there is no reason to worry unless someone tells you there is a problem. Most of us early stagers do well and never have to deal with this disease again. No reason to assume you won't be one that does well.

twinmamaheather - yes I have taken a break from the boards, sometimes (especially when you are afraid of an ache or pain like I am) its just too much.  I spoke to my onc and she said they will call me this week to schedule a bone scan.  She said I will get in in a week or so.  So scared :((((((

Hi rozem - keeping you in my thoughts and prayers that your bone scan is clear!

  • Ugh. Totally nerve wrecking Rozem. I will be sending good thoughts your way. In the meantime, I have probably a really silly question, but any chance that you keep poking and prodding the area that's tender? Could it be possible that it's not being allowed to fully heal? I only ask b/c I know if I have any little ache or pain, I can rather quickly turn it into a big/ constant ache/ pain by messing with it!

PS - I think I will go back to my hiatus from the boards tomorrow, haha.

Having outpatient surgery Wednesday to remove nasal and sinus polyps. According to latest biopsy, they look benign. Keep your fingers and toes crossed.

karenrm - hoping it is B9!  Crossing everything I have!

twinmama - anniversaries can dredge up a lot of feelings - try to have feeling of happiness to be here for another year, and let the nervousness fall by the wayside!  I know that is sometimes easier said than done!

Gals, can anyone tell me if a post chemo weight gain would be caused by Tamoxifen or Effexor?  I have never felt "fluffy" in my life.  I have gained 7 lbs since finishing chemo.  I work out and eat clean 80-90% of the time.  I am 5'8" and weigh 144.  I feel my best at 130-135 and cannot seem to get back there....

GIGF - are you in menopause?  I think its the chemo induced menopause not the tamox in my opinion.  When I was in chemopause and tamox I could maintain my weight, as soon as they shut down my ovaries (because my periods returned) my weight went up and stayed there no matter what I did. (eat very clean and exercised at least 3-4x a wk)  I think I must have been producing some estrogen even when I wasn't getting a full blown period because since the ovarian suppression its so tough to lose weight.  I finally lost 5 pounds due to the stress of losing my dad but I literally ate nothing for weeks.

Yes GIGIF. Many of us complain about it. Some of us on the AIs and some on Tamoxifen. But 144lbs at 5'8" is well with in normal thin rage.

Oh I pray all of u who are facing tests all come out fine. And u can relax some. Never borrow trouble cuz it's hard to give it back, so don't think of it as tests think of it as something that takes up u'r time and u usually just stay still.
