    Hi everyone :)

My last chemo is scheduled for Monday. I also meet with the RO that morning for the first time. I'll be up there all day it looks like, but it is what it is. I saw MO Thursday and her nurse hugged me and told me how strong I was, I broke down right there. It's been a terrible ride, I'm not gonna sugar coat it. I'm dreading this last chemo, I truly am. I'm just grateful that it is the last one. My almost 5 year old and I were looking at photos on Facebook this morning. We came across some of me with hair and she told me that she missed the "old days". It broke my heart a little, my baby talking like that. She told me she didn't want me to do chemo anymore and she wished that I didn't have to rest all the time :(

So, anyone have any tips for me with radiation? I truly have no idea what I'm going to be getting myself into with this. What should I ask RO?

    ((hugs))

hey  2nd hoping you are having a food visit with your father tonite.  Enjoy him while you can.  Both my father and mother and their spouses are all deceased :-(.  So how did you like dd new place ?  Hoping the move went well.  Gotta let them spread their wings , right? That is what we are supposed to do as parents is raise them to be healthy, independent adults right?  ( course my dss  are young still do easier to say I'm sure.)

Nettie - absolutely LOVE the retiree story. People ask the weirdest questions don't they.   Wow it's sounds you are incredibly busy. Do you think some of that makes your back pain worse ?  Maybe you'll get a little break when house guest are gone. Love having family and friends over for a couple nights then they gotta go.  Just not up to entertaining like that anymore :-(. The one exception is my sis who is actually a huge help while she is here.

Can't remember who was meeting with some bco sisters but I am so jealous. Hope you have a blast and please post pics.  I have been unsuccessful finding anyone else from bco in my area or even a fellow stage 4 person ( plenty of them out there just don't know where ).

    Tang, glad you posted.

I hated chemo & thought it was torture....You have had a lot more problems than I.

Radiation was a piece of cake. Obviously getting there everyday for 6 weeks is a pain, but physically you will be feeling better.

Emotionally, I had a hard time during rads. Just could not be tough any longer. I never had any meds before ( except pain meds ). Went to PCP & got on helper meds. She said, short term through the summer.

You will want to ask what your RO wants you to use for lotion on the radiated site. They are all different.

Hope all can see the moon this evening...

Tang - I didn't have chemo but I can sure address rads. I did it early 7:40 then went on to work an 8 hour+ day of hospice nursing. Find the cream the doc wants you to use. I used Aquaphor (any drugstore or WallyWorld) and a RX cream called Xclair. As I finished up I used California Baby Calendula cream from Target but know that Sprouts and Whole Foods have a bunch. That stuff smells wonderful and I use it for winter dry skin itch. You will get a diff. rad. pattern than I did because of your + nodes. But it is true that undressing/dressing takes more time than the actual tx. It will be at least 2 longer sessions for planning the exact placement of the beams. Do think about the time of day you want; it will be 6 weeks out of your life so plan what's best for you. You may have to settle for a bit for a diff. time but you should eventually get the time you want as others finish up. I put on creams after rads and after showering at night. No way could I put it on 4 times a day like she wanted. I was lucky if I could find a BR to pee in much less undress in. So I got by with my 2x/day. I did get some nip weeping which some Domeboro soaks cleared up - again the RO recommendation. I think some use pure aloe (no alcohol) but I only used the 2 they recommended. You will quickly learn to count through the process so you will know when it's over. I had one followup with RO after finishing maybe 1 or 2 weeks later and she dismissed me. She did see me weekly and I was free to see her nurse at any time. Techs were OK, competent, not overly friendly. More "git er done" attitude. Maybe because I was so early in the morning. I went to a Texas Oncology office.

Best diagram I've seen for the angles used. It made no sense to me until I found this. Read through BCO rads section. I did join a thread for my time period. See that there is a Summer Rads thread. Not that we want to chase you off, NOT. But it does help to commiserate with those going thru this together and help each other out.

I had 28 regular treatments, 5 boosts. My usual time was 1:15.  I used as directed whatever my RO wanted, and my skin still broke down. That got me a week off, then the boosts, then the last of regular rads. I did NOT want to finish. It took every smidge of energy I could find to drag myself in. I was OVER the whole treatment thing. TIRED!! He sat me down in his office and firmly explained why I HAD to finish. At the time I sure wasn't happy. But now I'm glad I did it all. Because I can tell myself I did it. I wasn't a quitter. It was worse than chemo, and that was pretty damn bad. We are all different, and I hope it's easier for you.

I think that's why we're called survivors. We survived the treatment!

Just stopping by, having a bad night. Seems I'm out here by myself tonight.

Anyway, just wanted to say that I breezed thru rads. My RO had me use nothing but cornstarch during treatment. I never had any problems, and after, he said to use the Aquafor just to make sure things didn't flare. And they didn't.

Nettie I'm sorry u had such a bad nite, I hope u can rest today---but it does take a long time for our bodies to get back in to sync--I didn't pay much attention to my reports when they said OK, I just let it go. but If it bothers u make sure u talk to them, they ease u'r mind.

And I agree about rads, I was glad I got mine early in the day so u'r whole day isn't wrapped around it and it just made me tired after a couple yrs of chemo it was a breeze and I used whatever they gave me, but u can still see all the discoloration, but since I'm not entering any beauty contests I'll just except my scarred and different color chest where my boobs used to be. I don't even care. I know everyone is different but I think the biggest thing in rads maybe tiredness, I guess to different degrees. The only thing they got upset with me was I was singing with the music and wanted me completely still so that was hard to sing and not move.

Just stopping by to say Good morning peeps! Sending gentle hugs for those not getting a good night's sleep or feeling well.

For once, in a very long time, got a good night's sleep. Maybe because I was exhausted after helping move DD's stuff to her new place (will answer questions later as I'm waiting for my turn to use the bathroom to shower at Mom and Dad's, then off to meet some local BCO ladies for lunch), then assembled the new patio furniture set for my parents (the assembly was part of my Father's Day present for my dad) with crappy instructions, then went thru boxes in storage. Because I was dusty, dirty and sweating, a nice calming shower before bed.

Wishing everyone a great relaxing Saturday!

2nd, have a great lunch with the S.CA ladies, wish I could join you...

A friend is having a big BBQ for June birthdays. I think she has 20 + people coming, with 5 people with a June b-day.

My b-day was 2 weeks ago..( 59 )...I was busy, and did not post it here. I am not a big b-day person. DH wanted to do something, we ended up having friends over. It motivated me to go to town on planting flowers, putting bark down, cleaning house. Then my kids took over, and did all the cooking & waiting on everyone.

    Smaarty, thx for the Joe

Susan & Camlily, hope you get feeling better....

So funny to read this, I have been doing it for leg and foot cramps and it really works, but everyone laughs when they first hear it. You have to try it before you laugh, I tell them.

2TA - Hope to hear a fab report about your get together.

Trying to get myself presentable for a SS party this evening. It could be awful hot but we've had clouds and a few tiny showers this morning. May keep the evening heat down. Supposed to be some outdoor activities + food + board games.

Golf Girl - I'm low key about BDs too. But then I have a tiny family - DH, DD and one DB & SIL. I'm just glad to wake up breathing and in one piece every morning.

DH and I spent time cutting brush yest. morning. We live on a creek and despite the drought it is very green and overgrowing out back. Could be to our neglect too, well not could be more like is. Goaties loved getting fresh branches for mid morning snack. Why pay for hay when I have the live stuff I say. I need to look for even more giant pair of loppers to whack those branches. Watching bicyclers come down hill - we live on corner. This is the end of a bicycle club loop back into town. There is a large bluff/plateau area just to our west, they go some route out to/beyond it and come back down our way which is pretty direct into town.

Off to make leche quemada (burnt milk I think). Praline kinda candy in micro. I signed up for dessert.

Nettie - hope you have a better day.

Missing the Fierce One. Hope you're having a good day.
