Hello everyone! It seems like decades since I have posted. Once summer actually hit, I have been on the run. I often read your posts but then don't take the time to respond.
Carole, what kind of new irons did you purchase? I have decided that I need a seven wood and a nine wood. When I went shopping for them I discovered that many of the companies are no longer making both of them. They are making a club that can be adjusted to the loft of the 7 wood and then readjusted to the loft of the 9 wood. It has a screw-like apparatus that you use. Wouldn't that be fun! "Oh wait a minute, I have to change my 7 wood into a 9 wood before I can hit this shot!" :-) I think I need to keep looking or rethink my purchase and needs.
Mommarch...hope you are feeling better! That is no fun!
Sandra, your anniversary celebration looks so wonderful! How sweet of your husband!
Welcome Alaska Angel. This is a good place to come visit. There are many upbeat, amazing women on this site! Come back often!
Sally, my naturalist (holistic) advisor swears by Stevia. I use it most of the time. Dave says he hates it but if I don't tell him that I've used it, he never knows. Not too long ago I sweetened our strawberries with it for the strawberry shortcake and he raved about how good the fresh Illinois strawberries were! I quickly learned that it takes a lot less of it than regular sugar.
Well, I need to get out and weed a few more spots in my flower beds before it gets any hotter. I hope everyone is enjoying the summer! It's hard to believe that the 4th of July is just around the corner!

ritajean, thanks for the info on Stevia. I will remember that it is sweeter than regular sugar.

Alaska glad you have joined us. I loved the link with the umbrellas. Several years back my Mother had huge toad stools in her yard, so she took her acrylic paints and decorated them, they were so cute.
We don't often need an umbrella here in the Davis Mt's.
Chevy, when I was two my sister was in a buggy like that and she started rocking it and my Mom freaked out and was grabing for the buggy and I was eating peanuts. Well of course I choaked. They thought I was OK until a few days later when my Grandmother was keeping me and I was weezing. They took me to Blank Memorial Childrens hospital in Des Moines, Ia. I had peanut fragments in my lungs. They put me under an X- Ray machine and I had to swallow a small set of tweezers and they picked them out. The only thing remember was them telling to swallow this. I had to stay for several days. Mom said it was polio season and they could not go into my room, just look at me from the door.
I think I am slowly getting better.
Everyone have a great weekend.

I have used Splenda for a long time now, but the two or three Nutritionists that I have talked too, do not really like it. They would prefer people use Stevia or regular table sugar ( bearing in mind calorie counts and other excellent eating habits ) and in reality -- using table sugar, I would have to get used to the taste which doesn't seem as good.
I think I could in fact probably do ok with the Stevia and just may give it a try. It is a much more natural way to sweeten w/o I think the dis-advantages of most of the artificial ones. Well, onward then to learning new things for me I guess. I've just been too lazy to get into learning the ins and outs of Stevia and hate to admit that I had a mild assumption hanging around that I would not like it and that is totally silly if I haven't tried it.

Hi everyone, I'm in WAY over my head here... let's see, a camillegal is not a cammi... I think? This is going to take me a while to get it together.
I completely forgot who asked the question about stevia so I'm glad somebody answered it. I use sugar for things for my husband (that I "occasionally" of course have to "sample"), but I use the small packets of stevia for most of what I eat and have now for about 7 years.
My older sister (with prior IDC and later IBC, and thriving) does her laundry on Mondays. I remember embroidered dish-drying towels with the day of the week on them and then people figures on them doing different tasks on different days, with "Laundry" being on Mondays. Otherwise, I haven't a clue as to why.
I've lived in Juneau at times and am now in Ketchikan, and would enjoy a PM from those who plan to stop by. Some of the humungous cruise ships that stop here unload passengers directly from the ship onto the docks, and some anchor out a ways and transfer passengers one dinghy at a time, which can take up to 2 hours to do, in part because of security in landing and departing.
Gardening here IS not easy because essentially we have no soil, just rock covered with moss for the most part. I got enough dirt together to plant a Gravenstein apple, which lived a happy life, grew tall, and bloomed for about 6 years and then it committed suicide. I planted a Jonagold, which did the same. I am a bit daft but I now have a Granny Smith and am keeping my fingers crossed. The crabapple I planted 15 years ago is going strong.
The only thing I worry about with my clothesline here is the occasional bear getting wrapped up in it, but so far I've been lucky.
P.S. And so has the bear.

Jackie, for me it did take a bit of time to get used to the stevia, but I did. I have a bag of half/half sugar/Splenda that has been on my shelf for years now just because I'm really big on organic and natural, especially with anything I use often.

Hi to all and welcome Alaska! I live in one of those HOA neighborhoods where you don't hang a clothesline! The golfers would freak and the neighbors would pass out. However, I was raised with one so one summer when the kids were here, I bought one of those cable lines that goes from tree to tree. It would help to dry pool towels and stuff like that. It was kind of like a tape measure that automatically reels back in when you are done. Hard to explain but you can get one at Lowe's! That same summer I decided I wanted to do sheets. DH came in and he almost passed out. He apologized to one of our neighbors and I've never seen my "clothesline" again.

mema..... ow..... that would be a toughie for me.... (when the time of year here causes the sun to be too low to hit my clothesline, I boldly hang a bit of laundry over the railing of my front porch, which faces the private road we share with neighbors).0 -
I used to hang out when the kids were young. Yup, loved the smell of the sheets. Ran the line between the trees in the back yard.
I'm a Splenda person, I understand it is made from sugar. Gave Stevia a try, but don't like the flavor.Just made a SF bday cake for my DH and tried a frosting recipe made with sf pudding, cream cheese, and lite topping. Hope people like it
Beautiful here again today, sunny with low humidity. Will throw chicken on the grill when SD and her family come for supper. We can eat on the porch. Enjoying it, but Jeldwin is slow getting the windows to replace the ones that stick, so cant open all of them.
Alaska, been up there twice and wud love to go back. Tell friends who are planning to go, small ship, to me is the best. Whales are right there, not 9 floors down, they will stop for wild life, you get to see places you have to pay extra for on the big ships! The liners now are sooooo huge they over run small ports, when 1 is in, let alone 2! Last trip we started in Juneau and ended up in Ketchikan. Love it!

Hi Alaska! Just to answer a real quick question....Cammillegal, or however she spells it today is actually CAMMI, or CAMera, or whatever else I call her. She knows all those names. We just tease each other incessantly, or constantly I mean, but it's okay.... neither one of us know what the other is talking about.... usually.
On another thread, we changed everyone's name.... making it easier to remember, or whatever.... Ha!
Mema.... that's funny! The golfers would pass out! Ha, ha! You should put up clotheslines just to see what would happen.... And then hang a bunch of bra's, Teddies, and cute little nighties and panties, and see what they would say THEN. I could get into SO much trouble!

Just tell those people to get a grip! Tell them at your age, (whatever it is,) anything goes.... that you get a free pass!
Mommarch, that's an AWful story! About the peanuts! Yikes! It's easy to believe though! And yes, I remember the Polio scare. Couldn't gos wimming at Berkely Park Lake anymore, because it was REALLY muddy.... We didn't mind though..... Just couldn't see underwater like our Camp-Fire Leader wanted us to open our eyes and find things in the muddy underwater.... It's a wonder we didn't get SICK! And we used to catch craw-dads and take them home, and keep them like fish, in a terrarium... along with Tad-poles! AND I remember collecting those pretty furry yellow and black caterpillars! And feeding them and raising them in the shed in jars! We made them "luxurious" homes.... With sticks and leaves and probably left-over dog-food.... Ha!

Bonnets,I have accepted that neither Lindt & Sprungli nor Green & Black's are willing to give up sugar, either... and since I'm not willing to give up dark chocolate completely I still have occasional tell-tale dark brown smudges on my kisser. I bet your dessert will be gone before it hits the table!
Having done a remodel, I cringed when reading about the windows sticking. We had 4 diagonal windows replaced here on warranty when they clouded up. Hope you can enjoy the breezes soon...
I'm glad you liked it here when you were here. The luxury of the big ships is sometimes part of the dream (some friends that stopped in by large cruise ship recently said that they were already tired of seafood and duck). But I too would try for a small ship for the same reasons you would -- or -- even though the ferries are the opposite of "luxurioius", I enjoy that quite a lot. I used to do more of that and would just take a bicycle on board and my pack.
Chevyboy, thanks for throwing in a life saver here!

We did a luxurious 7 day cruise when I worked for the cruise line. I would rather do a small boat or the ferry. We might do the ferry one of these days.

OH OH am I forgettable or what, does anyone remember me---AA I've talked with u on another thread for over 1 yr now that u pop on every so often. hahahahahahaha I'm the one who never knows anything about anything---OK I admit it--I know nothing about cancer or all the 2 or 3 letters used to describe it--that's why u see me mostly on these threads, u notice I never (ell most of us ) hardly talk about it not that we shouldn't but I don'think we know that much well, I don't anyway. LOL
Chevy I can see u'r knowledge of Chicago is nil--we always called between houses gangways, maybe that's how that word gang started cuz we'd meet in the gangway. Hahahaha So Yes I was in a gang called "Ways". Oh my brain is braking up here we are having a super storm with all kinds of warnings my cat hiding and the dog is crying like a sob, no Chevy not an SOB but like a sigh. So don't start.
Jackie I hope u'r not getting this weather it's miserable scary.

Cam, so far, so good, but we are due for storms tomorrow.....doesn't mean something won't sneak in here tonight when no one is paying attention. It doesn't look bad outside though right now....rather quiet, no wind so that is a good sign for now.
Has been less humid today than I thought. That is a big help. We are out under so many, many trees and no concrete around so we do tend to stay a little cooler a lot of the time. The humidity is not much affected out here though....so if it comes we are as miserable as anyone.
Got tonight off.....hmmm, nice for a change.
Blessings

hi - this is my first time on this website so it will take me some time to learn terminology and all that. I would love to be part of a forum or whatever for older women as I am a "young" 66. I have stage 2 IDC and am now recovering from a unilateral mastectomy with reconstruction. I m actually about to go to bed because it's omg 8:00! My stamina has totally left me for the time being.

Hi Louise , welcome to our place, the club no one wanted to be in! As you can see a lot goes on here beyond our journey with BC.
Had to say hello, I'm a former CHicago gal and went to nursing school at Evanston Hospital, back in the day! My Mom was from Wilmette. Me a South sider. Spent many a happy day at Lighthouse Beach and Wilmette Harbour , when in nursing school. Now a New York State resident.

Welcome LOUISE. So glad you found us well seasoned gals. You will do fine here. Hope you can re-find us too. I put this thread in my favorites a long time ago and just come into it from there. Much easier for me since I'm not a computer whiz.....I'm not actually a whiz at anything much, but that is ok.
While your recovering....rest, rest, rest. I've lived in other states, but was born and raised in southern Illinois and am glad to be here.
Hope you will come often. We are a small group but we truly enjoy spending time together here. So come often and stay late --
Blessings
Jackie

Welcome Louise I'm glad u found us, but sorry u have to be here. Absolutely rest is what u need right now so just take care of u'rself and If u'd like to share u'r story here we'll all be interest. This is a nice thread also on my favorite list. such nice women here. Oh and I'm in DuPage County so we're not to far.

Hi everyoneI am also from DuPage County. I couldn't help but see your post about Stevia. I had given up eating sugar about 12 years ago. That is a long story which I won't go into now. I have used Stevia exclusively for years and years. I like the NuStevia brand which I get an GNC. It is different tasting that the others I have tried. Because it is from a natural plant it doesn't come with the cautions that the synthetic sweeteners do. Nice to meet all of you.

OH? So Cammi, your "gang-ways" are like our "alley's??" Are you kidding me?
Our Alleys run in back of our houses, and that is where they (the city) keeps those huge dumpster's for all of us neighbors to put their trash in. They also supply us with big purple roller-containers for us to put our recyclable trash in. And that goes in the alley ALSO every 2 weeks.
Also alleys are for to walk in, and trip on rocks and break your hip. And drive down, like most normal folks....
We don't have gangs here.... they all moved to Chicago. We only have 5 billion pot growers and stores, and smokers. That is our legacy.
So yes, my knowledge of Illinois is "nil"..... Ha, ha! Kind of like my brain is "dwindling" down... like the rest of my body... I just like those words.
Your dog was really crying? Oh man, don't tell me that! He was "SOBBING??" And you didn't pick him up? Or her?
Oh wait.... I think we have to partially behave here... Morning Louise1424! Welcome...!! Ah man, you have just STARTED? Don't worry, we'll take care of you... Some of us are more serious than others... but you have to figure that out...Ha!
You are pretty young... I mean compared to me that is... and Cammi......
I didn't have near the surgery that you did, but a LOT of the gals on here know exactly what you are talking about, and we will answer all your questions, and calm your worries....
Actually I sound kind of serious there... But the worst part is over probably... Don't be afraid to ask us anything....
If WE don't know then we will send you to Dr. Phil or someone like that.
BANDWOMAN? So you are in a band? I presume? What do you play?
You probably know my Brother.... He is a life-long drummer...

Good Morning everyone and Welcome Band---I live a few blocks from the CDHospital so we are close. I think u'll like this thread some of us can really help while others will make u smile and feel free to rant =, talk, vent anything u like cuz we do.
Chevy we had allys too, Jeez but we also had between houses and the houses were close enough were u could sit and talk to u'r neighbor-It was so fun. When we moved from the city we had driveways between the houses, strange, but u could still talk between houses cuz then the driveways were not really that big. u just didn't have clotheslines.
OMG my SIL just served me my coffee, I'm so lazy.

department of life, the penthouse of existence. But rightly understood,
it is a vital awareness that pervades all realms of our being.”

WELCOME BANDWOMAN. I'm so glad you found us here. It's a great place for well-seasoned ladies, though we don't make age the REAL factor. We do enjoy talking about a variety of things, but will help with any questions or issues ( or point you in a good starting place ) in regard to treatment questions, thoughts, feelings, experiences.
We have found that we just enjoy sharing with each other and we are always eager to welcome new friends.
You do have to watch out for Chevy and Camille who keep us in stitches, but they can be very serious as well.......they just temper us from doing it tooo much.
We are having some rain which I think will move off in a bit and come back this afternoon. It has not been so bad out yesterday ( maybe a little gift from the coming storms ) but is due to get up to 90 today. Sounds horrid, but may not be so bad. We won't have sun so the cloudiness will likely keep up from feeling too baked.
Hoping you all have a great day.
Will see ya'll later.
Blessings,
Jackie

Welcome Louise!! I'm a young 67 and also going through treatment as you can see from my sig. I'm doing well in spite of aggressive treatment and manage to exercise pretty strenuously every day. I don't post here often but enjoy reading the frequently hilarious posts! You ladies are sooo funny and bring back memories that we all share such as the clotheslines of childhood days. I've been encouraged to give Stevia a try again to get away from my Splenda. Jackie, I love your inspirational quotes. You're the best!

Mom-Mom, I too am working on easing away from Splenda. I broke my sugar and salt addictions several yrs. ago when I was using the South Beach eating plan. Actually did well losing wt. and shocked myself at being able to actually dump those two bad habits. I think it was around that time that I found Splenda. I tried to get off sugar for a long, long time but previous to that discovered that I got allergy reactions to anything with Aspartame. Splenda became my Aspartame replacement.....but now feel it is way past time to try and take the next step.
I have heard there are people who seem to have allergic type reactions to Stevia as well....so you just never know how something is going to work out. Glad you like the quotes....I started the habit when I first came to BC. Org in 2008......and it has just hung on .
Blessings

So Cammi.... did you walk down the alley's with your boyfriends at night and make-out? Ha, ha! I didn't even trip ONCE! But I can do it in the DAY-light stumbling over a small rock! I just stepped on it, and twisted my ankle on my Croc Clog, and down I went! Don't understand it!

I was just searching the web to find out why laundry is done on Monday. A hundred plus years ago women had to do their own chores because slaves were a thing of the past and most couldn't afford maids. Mondays were usually for laundry for several reasons. Religion played a part. Everything revolved around the Sabbath. The week before was set up so everything would be done by Sunday. On Monday, the women were rested from the day before and had more energy to tackle the huge task of laundry, which really took two days to wash and dry, particularly in winter. They also had to wash the Sunday Best clothing worn the day before so that stains wouldn't set in. The other chores logically followed, with ironing and mending. They still had to bake bread for the Sabbath, churn butter, and clean the house. The song, "Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush" was written for children to be taught this schedule.
Good to see you back Rita. Mommom, glad to see your posts too. Welcome to Louise1424 and Bandwoman1234. More Illinois women! You are in the majority on this thread. I was just in Evanston a month ago. We were visiting a friend who belongs to the big Methodist church there. Our daughter #1 lives near Andersonville and works at Univ. of Chicago. She has decided to look for a job at Northwestern because the long commute is getting old.
Alaska, two of us from this thread will be in Ketchikan on Sept. 4th. I don't know about Di, but we've booked an excursion with Ketchikan Taxi Cab Tours to show us the highlights since we are only in port from 7 am until noon. (If you know anything about the company, I'd be happy to hear it. I haven't paid them yet!) We are on the Golden Princess. Unless you are independently wealthy, the average couple on social security can't afford the small ships these days. We've compensated with excursions in each port that are private small groups and take us to out of the way places. I had always thought we would combine four or five days on land in Fairbanks, Denali, Kenai Peninsula and Anchorage with a cruise through the Inside Passage, but it's just so darn expensive so we've downsized our plans to a 7 day cruise. Prices are still high for an inside cabin ($898 per person) and when you add airfare from San Antonio to Seattle, hotel and sightseeing there, then $120-$190 per person excursions in Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, and Victoria, our downsized trip is definitely a once in a lifetime expensive adventure. We could take four or five Caribbean cruises for the same money!
