INSOMNIACS place to talk in the wee hours

Hello Sweet Owlettes!!!
It's been five weeks since the big smack and subsequent concussion....
My short-term memory still sucks, and I have to ask DH what day and date it is, and whether or not I have any appointments that day. I do have my own calendar, but I forget to look at it.
I took off my glasses and put them on the nightstand the other night, then looked and them and thought "Oh, how cute! I wonder whose.... OH!"
The insurance company from the resort called - finally - after over a month. After talking to me, I'm sure the adjuster had no problem believing she was talking to a person with a head injury. I kept asking her to repeat everything she said. It took about ten minutes to get her email address right.
I ran into a former nurse friend who was very concerned that I wasn't getting better. She made me promise to ask my doc for a CT scan or an MRI in case there was a blood clot or other complication. I sent an email to the doc, asking for her advice. No answer yet.
In the meantime, I have no other symptoms, as you would expect were something serious going on. No headache, no nausea, no vomiting. Still unsteady and using my cane, so no exercising for me. Still sleeping 10-12 hours a night and taking some naps.
I think my doc may be out sick - there's a bunch of nasty viruses going around and she has two babies at home. I'll call the office later on and ask.
Other than that, I lurk when I can...
Welcoming newbies, and keeping y'all in my prayers!!!
xoxoxo

Blessings, Doesn't not recognizing your own glasses qualify as something serious? I had to laugh. I've been in a similar state due to getting up in the night to feed bottle baby kittens. They went to another foster parent last night and we're getting some zzzzzzzs before another batch comes in.

Blessings! WTH? I mean your DOC is "sick" ???? But tell that lame brain, that YOU are even sicker! That YOU have issues! He thinks HE is sick? He don't know sick!
Isn't that the way it always it? I mean you say something to someone about your how your head is jangled, and they say, "yes, but once I had a head-ache so I know how you feel! Best to just keep it to yourself.
If your head is like my head, after a concussion, it will usually get better.... might take awhile, but things will begin to make sense....
THEN you might forget MORE things, but it's okay..... SOME things are just better not remembered....
I don't think they even had CT scans.... or anything when I was 15.... They just figured I was nuts anyway.... that I would come to my senses sooner or later.
And I did, but forgot the rest of my growing up.... all my school years.... If you can remember some "things" that is good! Okay, go get checked out.... I've done all I can...... which isn't much.
Hi 4444444444! Where you been girl? I miss your pictures of scantily clad ummmmmm.... men.... YES Cammi, I remember what those are!
And LilShit! We lost her too! See? Some gals just go off on their own.... And VINNIE! I think he must be somewhere!
No Sass, can't have my family with any list.... at least to this thread.... Ha! I talk about too many of them..........

Chevy, Do you have passwords to other sites like banking? Mutual funds? Important stuff? who and how do you have it fixed that someone has access?
New thrift find. Import Associates, Claudia pattern--wine glass 9.99 ea
http://www.replacements.com/webquote/IMALA.htm
my thrift cost 37 cents a piece for 9---3.37 $
An old thrift find was Cambridge, Stradivari pattern--Champagne/tall sherbert . Now 7.99 at R.com, was higher, but has dropped in price.
http://www.replacements.com/webquote/CAMREG.htm#48...
my thrift coast was 1.00$ a piece for 9---9.00$
Ds got Morgantown, Golfball pattern for Mother's day He bought them at antique store. 4 wine 4 liquor --he did well. Coaxed the price out of him because the cost on R.com is huge
http://www.replacements.com/webquote/MORGOLB.htm#4...
GolfGirl, thought of you when I located the name of the pattern. Hope you had a wonderful day on the course with a bluebird on your shoulder.

Gosh what a great place to shop FL must be. Is it all the retirees? Love 1st pattern. Goes with anything. Too hot to shop much. I made it to grocery and back. Have oddly one sided scratchy hurty throat. Red from what I can see in mirror. Only person I've been around is DH since Sunday. Sure feels like making of a cold and I haven't had one in at least a year. No DD visit this weekend. Prob. a good thing.
Blessings - I hope you hear back from doc soon. Love the name "the big smack" though don't love the damage it's done to you.
Hi 4Sew. Gosh kids going back to school already. And I know it ain't cool in GA.

LMG---centuries old gargle recipe. Find a storage bottle with a cork. Fill with cider vinegar. Empty into sauce pan. Cover bottom of sauce pan with salt. Cover salt with red pepper seeds. Boil for several minutes. Let cool. Strain into bottle. Keeps in frig forever. USE: Gargle at onset of sore throat. Tastes horrible. Rinse foremouth(tongue and teeth area) after gargle to get rid of taste. Repeat every 15-30 minutes for a couple of hours. Area that bacteria is trying to set up housekeeping will feel like it's burning. That's a good thing. Won't work on old sore throat.

For all you owlettes, a big hello from Snuggs and Annie Mae. Sending you hugs...

Hi everyone----I've been a little busy today and very tired and my boss came by and brought me my iced coffee for tomorrow morning. Got him trained.
Mommaray it's all right whatever u feel, their are so many feelings to go thru and each one takes it's time, just don't get to sad that's all.
BTW my kids know all about BCO and they have a few ladies on FB, yes my DD's do--Brats.
Enerva I love the pics of u walks--so peacefully pretty.
Blessings I don't know anything, u do know that, but I would call u'r Dr. anyway and see his sidekick Tonto if u have to just maybe u need another test.
Chevy when u were 15 I don't even know if they had electricity yet, but guessing they might have, well u did say u are the oldest sooo I think they did have cars--so u could have had an x-ray or did they know about brains then? I've very confused time is a matter I don't think of much anymore just hoping I hve lot left.

Mommary I hear you, I have been in that place too ,somehow it will pass and you will pull yourself up again.

Time is the only friend we have, with time we do get pass all of it.
Sending you strength and hugs
I am starting to get anxious about my exchange surgery. I wish it was sooner. End of august seams so far away.

enerva, 4 weeks is a short time. Pretty soon you'll be wondering where the time went. Love your walks, which we could all come to your place to mellow out as needed. I just found out that my ps thinks the girls are just fine, he did a 180 on me. I am getting a second opinion on Monday so I'll see what she thinks. If they get worse with the dropping and the pain in the sides then I want them removed. The pain isn't all the time, and not too bad, so I'll wait. He will do the fat grafting when my weight has plateaued.
Welcome to the newbies. Stick around, it gets crazy sometimes.
0 -
Glad to see both of you awake also.
Enerva - I agree the 4 weeks will go by pretty quickly. Heck the whole year flew by for me.
Wishing you both successful outcomes on the girls.
0 -
cammi, you are too funny! "Did they know about brains then?" 😁 That made me snort when I laughed....and it kinda hurt.
I leave on my road trip to Houston tomorrow. I will try to post about my thrilling adventures and any jail sentences along the way.
phyllo-pian
p.s. I love you blondie
0 -
momma ray - what you are feeling is totally normal. We all go thru such a crazy emotional rollercoaster. Truly time will make it easier. But don't allow yourself to stay down to long. If so talk to your dr. Plenty of meds out there to help. So tell us some more about this wonderful grandson you help take care of.
Blondie / hugs. Thinking of you.
Susan. Have you started new chemo yet ?

Good morning ladies. It's 1am here and I'm still awake. My mind is all over the place.....worrying...but worrying changes nothing. There is so much going on in all parts of my life. I do want you all to know how much I appreciate all of you. Although I read alot and post little, I feel a connection here. FBB was my age. I hope I can remain healthy enough to stay in my present career and get my youngest through college.

Okay.... the PCP CALLED me instead of emailing me back. And she called after hours so we'd be able to talk as long as we needed to.
Basically, she's concerned that my cognitive function is not better than it is after five weeks now... in fact, it's getting worse.
She has ordered a brain MRI, which I'll have next week. We don't suspect anything dramatic like a bleed or a clot, because I don't have any physical symptoms other than imbalance and disequilibrium. In other words, I can't always stand up straight.
But the cognitive - mental part of it puzzles her. She says the MRI won't show a concussion, and she doesn't suspect anything more serious, but says it can't hurt to get as much info as we can.
I can still type, I can still use big words, I can still talk on the phone. But lots of times, I have no idea what people are saying when they talk - like that insurance adjuster yesterday.... and tonight DH made some comment about a news feature we were watching, and I realized I had no idea what the anchor was talking about.
I have no concept of time...I thought we were at the beach two weeks ago. It was five weeks ago. I get out of bed - it's 10:30. Suddenly it;s 2:30 in the afternoon. Then all of a sudden it's dinnertime. Where does the time go?
At least I still have enough brains to squirt a garden hose on the flowers in the evening. Only 103 today, 107 tomorrow. Got my work cut out for me.

blessings, happy you got into an appointment..that should make you feel a little better already. Good luck..in you pocket

Patty peppermint..yep, started new treatment Wednesday....not gonna be my favorite..to similar to one I have been on before so symptoms came on pretty quickly. Our bodies do have memory...wish my brain did..lol
Hubby came through like a trouper with gallbladder. Mine came out about 6 yrs ago. 24 min surgery. I think he beat me..he always wins in everything....ok, so maybe we r a bit competitive over here. He even hides puzzle pieces to be the one to finish them..ha ha

Morning girls..... Yes Sass, passwords for
everywhere! In fact I have so many pass-words I can hardly get into
ANYthing!I got out of all the Mutual Funds... Just a big
hassle... If I had it to do over again, I would just keep money in a savings,
and not invest in anything!Even CD's aren't worth anything
anyway.....And at our age, it's more important to make it
easier for the kids if anything happens, and not have to go through all that,
trying to find it all! They are on our house papers, and our banks...
This happened with my folks, so there was no need for a Will, for my Brother and
I....I have all of our important papers, phone numbers,
etc. in a special binder, with everything listed.... Even our Cremation plans
are paid for....This happened to me a couple years ago.... when my
Identity was stolen.... Mastercard called one night, and asked if I had used my
card for a $1500 ticket for Spirit Air.... AND another one for $450 from
FLORIDA!We were at the Mall, walking, and someone, either
sitting or walking by, used their "tablet' with the RFID reader, and it scanned
and stole my card number out of my wallet, from inside my purse. You also have
to file a report with the Federal Trade
Commission....I had to fill out a Police Report, call the Credit
Card agencies, even Social Security, because they had my number also! THEN I
had to report it to the IRS, and I get a special number from them every year, to
prove that it is me, and not someone else.About 6 months later Capitol One called, asking
about the credit card request I put in for! I knew nothing about that. With
your SS, and your information, thieves can cause so much hell, that you wouldn't
believe.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjOduug-SC8
But all you have to do, to protect yourself from
this, is carry your cards inside an aluminum wallet, or don't carry your cards
at all...just carry enough cash for that day.And don't keep very much money in your checking,
where you use your debit-card to access from.I make sure I move it over to my savings, when my
SS check goes in.I just mostly buy things on-line.... or at
Walmart....Good Lord Sass!!!!!!!!!! Are you trying to kill
us all? I mean at first I thought you said a "centuries old garage recipe"...
but then it is GARGLE.... and that is even worse! I mean can't we just eat
flames and get it over with?Did you guys read that recipe carefully? I've got
a good one for you..... just gargle with whiskey.... that's what my Grandma
did.And Sass said "it won't work on an old sore
throat!!!!!!!!" Meaning? No one gets an old sore throat unless it is an old
person! Cammi, she is saying disparaging remarks here.... we might take it
personally..... or not.LittlePaws! So happy to see our Snuggs and Anni
Mae.... Yes! Is she in any pain now?MammaDahling! Don't go gettin' stuck in some bad
place... I would hold off on those pictures until you are further out from this
stuff....Yes, we ALL have had crap going on in our lives,
but see, you have to look at it like YOU are still HERE! And so are we! So go
walk outdoors, and watch a sunset.... or the sunrise, like I am going to do in a
minute! Just thank God that you get another day.... See? That's your
"present" !No... I'm not from out East... with those other
gals... I'm from Denver... where they grow pot like crazy.....Oh Cammi, SHUT UP! Ha, ha! "Didn't have
cars"..... DAMN that girl is a brat! They DID take an x-ray, but that only
shows bones.... so no broken bones... And I don't remember what else they
did... not MUCH apparently! You know, I still love Oil Lamps! But we didn't
have a furnace... not until much later... Everyone either had a "Heater" or a
wood/coal stove... And we had coal and ice delivered.Oh, so are you making fun of me? You little
Dickens! We DID have indoor plumbing though...Except not at our Sitters, where we had to run
out-doors to the out-house... I said RUN, because we had to be faster than their
Geese! Because those little B@#$@#$S would run
after us and try and attack my Brother and I!Smarty, What IS this, "when my weight has
plateaued." that's French, right? My weight "plateaued" or FLATTENED out
years ago.... I just give up. Smarty-pants with the Plateaue's...SHE said it you guys, I
didn't...PhylliinCammi'scorner! YOU are just instigating
her on! She will be relentless now! And why are you going to Houston?
Something we should know about? Vinnie there? OH YOU with the "plan!" SURE
she has....It's a plan for mischief...
probably.Blessings..... WTH? What can she do about you?
It's a scary thought, that you will be like ME.... Ha! Maybe it takes a lot
longer for our brains to recover..... I know MINE did! And I can just hear
Cammi yelling in the corner something about me and my
brain!!!But MAYbe they can do some sort of repair work,
like electrical shocks? You SOUND okay when you write....! And to
recognize that you aren't thinking straight is important! Like I know what I'm
talking about....You know, don't try so hard... Just let your
brain rest... It is trying to repair itself...My fall happened when I was 15... I think... And
I must have went on, day to day, like a normal little girl, but I can only
remember a few little things!Just don't worry.... SOMEday you will be perfect
again.... just like I am...Now CAMMI, just don't even say it! I'm trying to
give the girl hope... and you are over there snickering and drinking your iced
coffee... and trying to act normal.Okay gals.... love all of you.... just trying to
help these gals with some ramblin's!0 -
mammaray - so embarrassed - blushing - guess I got confused. Oops

Mammray I don't think any of us thought u were that young--way to young, but u do have a good arsenal of chemo stuff to help u so we'll be here to help u along. Someone here (not me) and no names mentioned has kids twice u'r age. But this wicked disease doesn't discriminate, but we're all fighters.
Phylogoing--I think is not going on vacay she is going to do someprocedures in another country, she can use her passport just for this now. Oh I was thinking TX is another country--geography was my worst, it's big enough.
Blessings I'm so glad u'r Dr. is doing further stuff ==don't go by that woman with a car name--she's stuck in another time zone completely so u'll get better--u'll see.
And Miss Chevy I do not put u down, I put u in u'r place, wherever that is t the time. Someone has to control u somewhat I'm used to taking care of really old people, well u'r not that old, well maybe u are, but an outhouse never had to use one--we on the other hand had 1 and 1/2 bathrooms--from the very beginning--we were considered doing well. LOL and even then I ws always in the bathroom. But throwing up almost every day--u'd think someone would have thought maybe she needs a Dr. no not those days, Finally when I was 17 I went and of course they found somestrnge thing I had and treated it--didn't have to much trouble after that except when chemo started then it wa all the other direction and still goig strong. hahaha So I guess I've always been a bathroom kinda gal--I didn't say backroom I said bathroom, that why my dad always made sure we had an extra 1/2 bath. He's rather build one that see what was wrong with me. Crazy people those days.
OK my kids went to the store for me last nite and bought something to bring to the party today--so that's good--hope the weather is too. See u guys later or tomorrow. Takes me forever to get myself together.

GOOD MORNING OWLIES
ANOTHER DAY!. Paws happy that annie mae is doing well. I know that makes you happy after all she has been through.
YAYBlessings glad PCP's doing a follow up. Safest. Slow or late bleeds can occur. She's ruling out any physical change. Best practice approach. Can't tell you how happy I am, she's doing it. You likely are too
She's not assuming, it's just the concussion
I like your PCP. The long talk on the phone.
She was not just talking with you, she was evaluating you too. Setting time to talk with you at length. YAY GREAT DOC! Stay safe and out of the trash HUGS:)Chevy, Yes passwords all over the place. Great advice on protecting identity. If I could fit what you said "Yes, we ALL have had crap going on in our lives, but see, you have to look at it like YOU are still HERE! And so are we! So go walk outdoors, and watch a sunset.... or the sunrise, like I am going to do in a minute! Just thank God that you get another day.... See? That's your "present" ! In the topic box I will , SAGE advice.
Cami Who is your boss. I thought it was a SIL?
Smarrty, I never said much about my foob pain, but it was awful for the first year. Then in the second year I hurt them pushing DH back in bed. My PS put in 850cc implants without the pecs being adequately stretched. I always figured my scenario was way at the far end of &^%-up's. Never wanted to scare anyone. BUT I looked at your tag line. You're still in the first year. Question: have you noticed any improvement in pain from month to month? I think I remember you checking with Deborah? I know that there have been woman that go through de-construction for the very reason you describe. The main reason I didn't, was I figured I went through the misery of the damn surgeries. The thing that kept me going is, I did feel (slow, but present) improvement month to month. When I met my PCP in DEC after the sx's (feb/mar./jun./july), she prescribed adequate pain meds. Heavy duty--fentanyl patch. By then I was into Total Body Pain(TBP). Had I had proper pain management from the beginning, I may not have gotten to that point. I'll never know. Is your doc prescribing pain meds and a benzo like valium or ativan? You might be just around the corner from the pain disappearing.

An update on PhyillyonherwaytoHouston. She mentioned many pages ago that she was entering a clinical trial. She's on her way to Houston to enter the trial at MD Anderson. She has a new computer, so she doesn't think she will have the same problems connecting that she had the last time she was there. She will be staying with her BFF. Her only son also lives in Houston. They are very close
Philly was pretty well a lifelong resident of Houston. Knows many people there. 0 -
sass, they hurt more now than about a month after sx. I know part of it is the weight lost. It's not real bad and if it gets worse I will ask for some light weight pain meds. Maybe than he'll take it more seriously. I really don't want to take any drugs. It just that they're close to being ugly! It's a little more uncomfortable sleeping on my sides and they feel like their starting to harden. Could be my imagination. I think it might be encapsulating but slowly and will probably have to get much worse before he'd remove them. Can't tell in clothes of course, they look normal. If I send you a pic by PM will that screw you up with the mods? Ok, I'm whining. Going to go sew up a dress for my sister's birthday. Need to get that done today.
You know I bought a new PC. It's still in the box! I'll get it up and going as soon as I get the newsletter done that's due this month. Now I have some time to work on it.

It's good to know that phylliontrial has got people in Houston. From what I've read here, its not her first trial ;-)
Hoping things go smoothly with little or no SEs for you Phyllis.

got some good news from the kids today...they live on my daughters income cause hubby is in med school. Won't make any money till he is in residency..he just started his 3 rd in med school. After 4 th yr, he goes into residency. So there first yr they were in a studio..hard for me to be comfy to stay there..and hotels r expensive. So I did the math, and gave them money for a 2 bedroom so I could stay with them. Now some friends of his parents are moving to Florida for 18 months, so they are moving in there rent free...just utilities. So I have a place to stay and I don't have to help them with $... Cool for everyone...yeahhhhhhh

Smaarty - what the heck? Do we need to go do a group smack up of your PS? I'm hoping the new SHE PS has a better feel for where your implants should sit. Do you have other choices in your area or is it insurance limited? I would think Sacramento would have a pretty good supply of PSs. Maybe your implants need smaller/ diff contour. I assume you've been on Whippetmom's site (forgive me my memory if you have been). Maybe your weight loss has changed their support structure. Shaking my head at your current PS.
PhyllodrivingtoHouston - leaving "tomorrow" meaning Sunday (hard to tell from the time stamp on your post but looks something like 1:30 am??)?. Safe driving and prayers that the trial is successful. Stopping along the way like the Dallas area??? You've still got my #, right? I've still got yours.
Well the sore throat seems better. I have trouble with one sinus I assume it has some anatomical defect. Always the side that plugs up terribly with colds and this is on that side. Has for years. Took Tylenol at bedtime and slept like a rock except for one potty break. It's even the side where dentist has no quibbles with. Did I mention I hate going to the dentist (but like a good girl I go every 6 months whining all the way).
MammaRay - Thanks about the sound machine at Target. I think that's one I've looked at. If you get a chance can you give me the brand name. No biggie hurry - prob. not leaving the house next week except for church tomorrow. Love that you and Susan "know" each other. Proves that we are all just one big family here. We all get stuck in our minds at some point. One step, one minute, one hour, one day and there you are. You only have to be the mighty fighter for just this minute. Hugs bunches. Hope you got some sleep. Teka is for sure the only east coasters (kinda) on here I can think of. Maybe others will identify themselves.
Pawprint - Love Annie Mae and Snuggs. Looks like surgery has healed well.
Enerva - I love your walks. Beach looks quite rocky for sitting like hard on the bum to sit on - rock imprints.
Dutchy - Hugs your way. I hate this **** disease.
Blessings - progress at least on getting to the bottom of your changes. HIgh five for the PCP. Please stay out of the heat. Is DH always around - asking I hope he is, a good thing. I worry about you falling in the heat. I always take my cell with me outside with the goats. I am the one who fell over the vacuum after all.
Susan - I can also remember what someone posted but not who did. I tried a diff. tactic today. I started with everyone's name and then filled in. Worked better but then I'm on a PC and this has taken me about 2 hours off/on. (Sent off long post to the "are you watching anything good" inbetween) Glad DH is recovering well. Hiding puzzle pieces - we'll have to have a talk with him. My glaucoma doc keeps a puzzle going in main waiting area and in 2nd area too. One of the few things to look forward to there. It's amazing they ever get finished since I bet most don't see all that well. I'm one of the youngest there at 6l - been going for 7 years.
Yes it's a good day. I'm upright and have had coffee and anticipate more of it shortly. Screw how hot it is - I want coffee. I also make a pretty decent iced coffee. I have a single cup drip (Melita) filter. Boil water/pour through. Make extra strong and pour it back a couple of times. Only problem is it takes way/way too much sugar. But I have found I like the PureVia brand raw cane sugar/stevia blend OK so decreases calories a bit. I think you can buy it loose as well as the packets I have.
I think Cami's boss is a nephew or son of nephew (whatever that relationship is).
Off to start laundry. DH is out of unmentionables - at least his favorites. I thought only us ladies had fav. undies.
Wow Cool Susan. I read just as I previewed. Things do work out. Is this the DD that went to the tomato toss?
