, hope they resolve it soon with the test.Cami nice you got to enjoy a party with your sister
It's hard to keep up, I am trying
Chevy I don't blame u I could be worry if I had a knee replacement too.
I had a great walk today with a girlfriend and her dog, it was fun but I run with her dog n we both need a nap now. I think when they got home that poor dog was going to sleep for the rest of the day. Very hyper little poodle 🐩

Nettie last Pm wouldn't go through. Please check page 523. All the thoughts are together in one place to run off and use with your docs.
Anyone concerned about me practicing med without a license. Doesn't apply. Everything I have said and written is within the bounds of the "Common Man".

HI1 Chit did give him any antibiotics pre-op for gallbladde? Did they put him on prophyllatic antibiotics after surgery? Bodies that have replacement parts have a protocol to be followed with sub sequent surgeries. I've been out for five years, the protocol may have changed.
Remember When folks had to take antibiotics before mouth surgery b/c of heart valve history. That was changed mid 2000's by the American Heart Association. There's still confusion about it b/c it was a decades old practice.
I'll look to see what the current replacement.parts protocol is:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE FOLLOWING WAS TAKEN FROM THIS WEB PAGE LINK. THE KEY IMPORTANCE IS THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY IS THE GOVERNING BODY THAT PRODUCES CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINES FOR ORTHO DOCS. They're like our ASCO.
http://www.aahks.org/care-for-hips-and-knees/do-i-...
Will I need to take antibiotics prior to seeing a dentist or having other invasive procedures?
The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery (AAOS) and American Dental Association (ADA) have generally recommended short-term antibiotics prior to dental procedures (1 dose 1 hour prior to dental procedure) for patients who have had joint replacements. This recommendation continues for up to 2 years after your joint replacement.
Two or more years after the replacement, continued use of antibiotics prior to dental procedures is based on the discretion of the treating surgeon and the patient. Your surgeon will consider many factors including whether or not you are at increased risk of infection due to immune suppression (i.e. diabetic, transplant patients, and rheumatoid arthritis).
The use of prophylactic antibiotics prior to dental cleanings and other invasive procedures remains controversial. Most orthopaedic surgeons now recommend lifetime suppression. Patients should discuss whether or not they need antibiotics prior to dental or other invasive procedures with their treating orthopedic surgeon. (bolding emphasis is mine-sas)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looks like it's pre-op. The usual surgery drug is Ancef/cephalaxin. AKA Kefzol. Pretty standard for all surgeries. Doesn't look like antibiotics post op are part of the protocol.

Tang ask ID doc if there's away to culture and sensitivity to be done before the tube is pulled. Once the tube is pulled, it will allow the bacteria, if it still present to build up again in an enclosed space. You already went through one rupture. Avoid another one if it's feasible.

Sassy - I just went thru the Baylor Ft Worth site and it finally loaded. Says pts seen in Ft Worth (some also in Del Ray Beach FL- don't understand that connection) with surg. in Plano. I had my LX at Baylor Ft Worth. Never had been in it much, no clinicals there. Think I once visited a friend who had a baby. I was very pleased with their service. Little attention to details - it was Feb and I was freezing. My sweet transporter always stopped and got me blankets from the warmer. My BS I think has a bit of reputation as a perfectionist - she does her own nuclear injections so don't doubt that might have had something to do with it. Also my gyn. is one of the orig. docs who started the new women's hosp - yes the same one I always mention - my old bud from college. Ft. Worth is not overrun with BS, 4 that I know of with a couple of gen. surgeons (friend had hers done by one).
No Nettie's in middle Louisiana. Reread her answers - HMOs. Will read the rest.
Baylor's affiliation with Scott&White is fairly new maybe last year. "Big Baylor" is just outside downtown Dallas. That place is a maze. I used to work for a psychiatrist there b4 I went back to nursing school 1979. Can't imagine how much it's grown since then.I think HI1's DH's knee is not new surg. Wasn't he out delivering ice a week or so? Could be wrong. Heat may have gotten to me - JK. 104 degrees. But has popped a few clouds.

LMG I thought Nettie said she was from Texas? Oh well if she isn't. But if she is, and you have some contacts there it might help her pick a doc

O.K. HERE IS MY ATTEMPT AT
CATCHING UP. I STARTED THIS TWO HOURS
AGO. I NEED A NAP.Susan – glad your DH is doing well. Now
let’s get YOU through this next treatment, with – hopefully – a minimum of SEs.
Good news about your kids…. At least money issues won’t be one of your worries!Thank
you, Chevy! I AM looking forward to
being perfect like you someday! DH also had at least seven concussions when he
was growing up…. Mostly from football, but one was from running into a metal
post… knocked him out completely. One year he slept all weekend, then got up
and went to school for the first week, and never remembered a minute of it. I’m
just hoping the MRI will at least show a brain in my head!!!Cami – I adore my PCP and trust her
completely. Couldn’t be said of my last doc, who was a total idiot. SO glad you
had a good time at the party!!!Sassypants – thank you for always being our
Nurse Nancy here! Yes, I am very wary of the big trash cans these days. They
can suck you right in before you know it.Smaarty – just a thought…. If you are not
getting anywhere with your Kaiser PS, see if you can see your Kaiser breast
surgeon (if you like that person better.) My PS basically told me that unless
there was an obvious defect in my implants, that his work was done. The breast
surgeon, though, is always available to me, according to my Kaiser MO. Cute red
dress (lookin' good!)….and yes – Bradley is adorable!Luvmygoats – do you do a regular sinus
rinse? My sinuses are shaped so weird and the passageways are so narrow, stuff just
collects in there and makes me miserable. I use NeilMed Sinus Rinse, can get it
anywhere, comes in a plastic squeeze bottle with a rounded top, and a saline
mix. SOOOO soothing, and ohmygosh, the junk that comes out in the sink when you
do it! DH and I both use ours, sometimes several times a day depending on
pollen, or bad air quality. A neti pot just isn’t strong enough to reach all
the way up into those nooks and crannies!Enerva – thanks for all the pretty
pics of the places you walk!!! I take my virtual walk with you!Phyllis – safe travels to you!
Pawprint – so you are in the hot part
of California, too? We had a power outage last night. Fortunately, it didn’t
last too long. Once it came back on again, I told DH it would probably go out
again thanks to everyones’ AC coming on all at once, but it stayed on.MammaRay – are you able to have an LAVH
(Laparoscopically Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy)? I had to have a total
hysterectomy for giant fibroids that made my uterus the size of a four month
pregnancy. I saw several surgeons who said they were too big for anything
besides traditional-incision surgical removal. But the Chief of the Department
was a total egomaniac, and said he would do it. He transected the uterus inside
of me, and brought everything out vaginally. I had three BandAids afterwards,
and the recovery was very short. Of course, if you posted the reason for your
hysterectomy and I missed it, I’m sorry. There may be reasons they want to open
you up and see everything.Tang – so sorry you were in the
dark place, but glad you are coming out of it. I would be surprised if they let
you get all those vaccinations right now… your body has gone through (and is
STILL going through) so much. Big gentle hugs!Hey,
Badger! My DH always freezes the
leftover coffee! He uses it in iced coffee, and also in smoothies for just a
tad of coffee taste.4sewwhat – Cute pic!! Work?
NOOOOOOO!!!!Holeinone- so sorry about your DH! Hope they find something
simple and quickly fixable. I keep an "ER" bag handy... in it I have
a pen and notebook, a copy of my address book, a gallon of hand sanitizer, a
package of sanitizing wipes, and when the time comes, I throw in my iPad,
charger, a sweater or sweatshirt (even in the middle of summer), an apple, some
protein bars, and a water bottle. Guess I've done that too many times. Please
update us when you can.Nettie- I have SO many long-term horrible spinal issues
according to my recent MRI, but truthfully, the real pain didn't start until I
tried chiropractic. The last time I went (years ago), DH had to help me off the
table, and I left the building just limping and sobbing. I've gotten better,
and have to say that acupuncture has helped me, as have other "total body
health" changes. Hope you find some answers and relief soon.Hi,
PattyPeppermint, Wren44, dutchiris, blondiex46, and
anyone else I might have missed!~
~ ~A
note on vaccinations: The day after I got my BC dx, my PCP ordered me down to
the nurse’s clinic to get all the vaccinations I could – especially the
Shingles vaccine - since we didn’t know at that point if I would need chemo or
rads. Fortunately, I didn’t need either, but I WAS impressed that the doc thought
of that so quickly, and took care of it for me. Sadly, DH cannot get the
Shingles vaccine now, as he is immune-compromised for life. Not
steady enough for church this morning, plus, I slept in til 11am. I really don’t
want to go anywhere til I get those MRI results. So I’ll just sit here running
the AC… supposed to be 109 today. Hoping the power stays on!Have
a great Sunday, Owlettes!!!0 -
holeinone....oh my goodness..hang in there, so sorry....hope he is a little more comfy by the time unread this. Didn't even know a replacement could blow out...sounds horrible
. Prayers and hugs your way 0 -
I'm back.. They are opening up his knee, cleaning out the infection, putting a vac thing in... Go back into the knee on Tues or Wed... Dr. Is concerned about losing his artificial joint ..also possibly his elbow joint.. It is inflamed, they have drained both sites, analyzing the fluid. I feel so bad that I did not haul him in Friday night.
0 -
HOLEINONE Wow, I am sorry, he must be in so much stress too
Hope you both get some rest tonight.
Sending you prayers
Momray, so you get your exchange and then the cervical surgery? That sounds like a lot to take
but the exchange is easier than the mx, still I am sorry you must have both in the same month. Hope you have lots of relatives support that can help.0 -
Sas, thanks for all the info. I.... think you saw where I said my original scoliosis dr was in Houston and I also went to md Anderson for a second opinion on the BC. So maybe that's why you thought I Was in Texas.

Apparently my PCP doesn't think much if the shingles vac he doesn't push it. When Walgreens starts their adverts again, I think I'll get it. I was the sickest kid in my neighborhood. I caught EVERYTHING there was to catch. Both measles, scarlet fever, scarletina, mumps and anything else
I've had pneumonia at least 5 times, maybe more, all confirmed by X-ray. I get the vac anyway.
Chiros are quacks. They should be charged with robbery and malpractice, thrown in jail. I do know of a world class scoliosis surgeon in Saftey Harbor, Fl. I have personally met some of his patients from other countries who he has preformed miracles for.
Dr Anthony Moreno, Fl Spine and Scoliosis in Safety Harbor.
Hi to all, I'm done for a while

I made it to Wichita Falls today before my car tires melted in the heat that lovelygoats mentioned. I went to the visitors center at the Grasslands but it was too freekin' hot to spend any time trying to get a photo composition that didn't have a new gas well or roads to a gas well or trucks going to gas wells. So! I just kept driving.......until the tires melted. Got them fixed and will drive into Houston tomorrow.
Wren, you shoulda come with me. Don't you miss the Houston heat? 😰

HIO-I'm SO sorry this is happening with dh! I hope they have some answers for ya'll quickly. I'm not sure if I missed something, but what lead up to this? ((hugs))0 -

Hi everyone, I'm still dragging from to much party, but too much fun is never a problem.
Susan I'm sorry u'r still having problems, BTW I did think of u last nite we passed Lake Zurich Theater. And I thought I hope u'r sleeping well.
Tang I'm sorry for those darn drains, I had mine in for 3 months and saw the BS 2x a week, recockulous to me but in the end he was right.
Hole I'm so sorry aout u'r DH and now he has the ZAC VAC--oh I hope he heals fast and well.
Smaarty Bradley is beautiful, Bless his heart.
OK Sas I read CHEVY'S little thought that was put in bold letters and saw nothing else. But then again neither did Chevy so maybe it's just us.
Nettie take u'r break, but don't be to long, we're here for u and sometimes it's good to rant.

Hi1-- on kindle harder to type. The positive is the docs are acting fast. Wound vac fast. Great for sucking out bacteria.
His gallbladder surgery was Friday? But that would be a really rapid onset. Reserving thoughts.
The protocol would follow- blood culture from the arms, cultures from all wounds.
Ask if they did a gram stain. Sometimes it can direct them in a different choice or an additional choice of antibiotic. But they are moving fast tells me they are on top of it.
Tell them to be frank with you about implications of two infection sites. Well that is, if that' s what you want.
They likely will start talking port or picc. If they don't you ask. He' s going to be on big gun antibiotics .They can be hard on the veins
Work on your sleep. Doing a extended hospital round the clock thing is going to be rough on you.
Don' beat yourself up about getting him in sooner. It is what it is. L&H&P' s sassy

Cami & Chevy, bluebird is on top of the white owl. I'm just goofy. Never mind.:)

I'm so sorry Holeinone to hear about your husband and hope the docs get it taken care of quickly.
Smaarty, Baby Bradley is precious. Love the dress as well, you are a great seamstress.
Blessings, I'm in Southern Ca..you might have mentioned where you are but I can't recall. We are both in very hot areas. I went out for a little bit today, temperature gauge in car read 107.. Yikes..at least my tires didn't melt like phyllis's traveling thru Texas.
Thanks MammaRay for sound machine info, I think it was LMgoats who was considering getting one. Target sure has a great price on sound machines, I paid 50 bucks for mine thru a catalog.
Sas, didn't the Bluebird become more central at the top of the page? Seems it was more to the left side before...hmmm?? Thanks for all your great info on many subjects. Don't need iron info yet unless the current treatment can't get this under control. Just hope it's not chronic inflammation..because if so, iron Infusions can be deadly.
Tang, I hope the drain stays in a little longer cause its still draining so much and I'm worried about you. I know you worry too.
Nettie, nice to see you here and there. Hope your feeling less pain these days.
2nd, you ok???
PattyPepperment so happy to hear you are feeling really good.
I'm hoping to sleep more than 3 hours tonight....or tomorrow will be a tough work day.
Goodnight gals...... Sleep well.

Tang, cammie, spookie n whomever I forgot, nighty night

Blondie, ya night owl, are you feeling OK?
I am home from hospital. DH will most likely be there until Thursday. Large incision on knee ( similar to his knee replacement incision ) with lots of drains & a vac. Also they cut into the elbow and flushed it, has drains. Staph infection. They took out the plastic pad of the knee replacement & will put a new one in on Tues. when they do the second surgery. Orthopedic surgeon says there is know way to know where the infection came from, but he has scrapes, cuts all over his legs, hands from work.
My DH has been a workaholic all his life... He bought this ice buisness 2 years ago. Lots of mechanical problems lately, & by goodness, he is going to fix it. The last HUGE problem was Friday, I have not got the full story, but I know he did something wrong, and broke the huge auger type thing that harvests the ice from this enormous bid. DS runs the buisness, & DH try's to fix stuff.
I obviously had not a clue when I took him in that this was so serious. When I left at midnight, there 12 hours, the nurse was going to get me a blanket so I could spend the night in a chair....hell no! I live 5 minutes away. I would not sleep a wink.
Sas, I think it was Sweet Susan DH that had gall bladder surgery last week.
So many things going on here. I think of you all & will give a update soon.
Night

hio - nice that you live close enough to go home. Sorry dh had to stay at hospital. Sounds like they are on top of things. Is his pain level reduced ?
Blondie - hey late owl.

missed a couple days, wow, I'm so far behind!
Want to thank all of you for your friendship, love, hugs and support!! Really don't know what I'd do without all of you, my selected family, my sisters.... This thread, the PM's, emails, texts, FB posts..... Funny, can't count on many people before BCO, but can always count on you for love, laughs, understanding, support, and somewhere I can count on to go when I don't want to be alone....
Jwoo, thanks for the late night "chat" the other night! Will follow thru sometime this week....
FBB really has gotten to me.
Blessings and Pawprint, fellow Cali sisters, it has been hot, hasn't it? Over 100* where I was this weekend and humid too! Felt a couple of raindrops this evening, we NEED the rain. Paw, dangerous and scary hearing fireworks as dry as it is.
Susan, thanks for all the hair color help! Want to check that out. Hoping you're doing well with new chemo. Sending you gentle hugs.
Sassy, will check out STFU (p. 175) tomorrow after PS and MO appts. Loved talking with you (sorry, didn't get to sleep till after 3 early this morning, the sun was already up when I went to sleep Saturday), 8 am was really early for me... Wish I had pix of the glass you collect. There's a resale place within my parents community, checked it out with Dad Saturday. They have some cute things, china and glass, I know nothing about all that stuff.
Enerva, that lake with all the water seems like a dream to me with all our heat and dryness. Envious of you. Your surgery will be here before you know, exchange was a breeze compared to mx. It's usually done outpatient here, how about where you are? Surgery, then after a couple of hours, at home. Hoping it's a breeze for you too. Thanks for the great photos!
Chevy, almost 57 years married? Get married at age 5? Am not even that old! Ha ha! And he brings you ice cream too? Goddess of marriage! Wish I some of that! You so deserve to be treated so nicely. Scary about the financial mess. Yikes!
Blessings, glad to "see" you. Please take care! 5 weeks since big smack down and insurance just calling? Bet they'd move faster if there was a law suit, just saying. Hoping you are keeping busy during the day in ways your docs would approve of
. Don't understand the after-hours call, my dad got one on a weekend, in the evening. Same health care providers, maybe they are being tracked for accountability? Reported the bitchy nurse to member services, they won't go far. When's the MRI?Wren, how are the kittens? Haven't read thru all the pages yet, how many? Hopefully there will be pix.
Paw, thanks for the photos! Love the furbabies and your fireplace Annie Mae is looking good.
Smaarty, let us know what the doc says....(reminds me of a song, what does the doc say?). Aren't you talented! Very pretty dress on a pretty lady! GS did a great job as photog. Smaarty, Bradley is adorable!
Phylliewiththemeltedtires... OMG! Melted tires? Never heard of that happening, so glad you're safe.
Mammaray, TE's are the worst, ever! Feels so much better with implants.
Cammi, so sorry you're a bathroom type of girl, that's no fun at all. Good thing your boss allows you time for potty breaks.
Color blindness, there's different types, can see some colors not others. My DS (step son) has some deficits in this area, very interesting. Remember seeing different photos from my Intro to Psych days, maybe when I have some spare time (now that's a joke) I can look into this. Kent State, the president (many years ago) Brage Golding came from San Diego State where I went to school. Big talk about him leaving for Kent State.
Tang, glad you checked in! Hoping you get your drains out soon
Missed you, 444444, back to school already? That's early. Do the kiddos get out at Easter?
Patty, size 2 is too big? My, my, I don't have that problem. See you're doing word games at late hours, hope you get some rest!
Hi1, so sorry this is happening and that DH feels better soon. Prayers for both of you!
hugs to everyone, especially those I missed: Luv, Stix, Badger, Nettie, Blondie, Spookiesmom. Sorry if I missed someone
I think I am caught up so time for some shut eye. Almost 2 am here......
Ned to be up in a couple hours, PS and MO appts today. Damn these hot flashes!

Such a beautiful night here for sleeping. Cool weather and a wonderful cool breeze blowing through the windows..covered up to my neck....sorry for all you who have such hot weather
. Night night

Susan. Your dh sure gets up early for work. Well kiss him goodbye and get some sleep ( close that window first , crazy people doing crazy stuff everywhere nowadays ). Hope you sleep well and wake up rested , hungry and energetic.

I've given up on sleep for tonight. My dh will be up for work in about an hour. Might as well stay awake now. Def going to be a long nap day later for me.

Good Morning, wow a lot going on during the night.
I slept pretty good actually, but still got up to early for the day.
Awww so many things on so many minds. This is hard to have going on for everyone.Good thing there is someplace to come to for questions and just comfort.
Oh it's one of those mornings when I have to get motivated and start moving around, I should start with my ittle bit of exercise to move these old bones, (Shut up Chevy) my bones are much older than me, which is not so good LOL

Morning gals! So what happened again HIO? How did he do
it, or have you already said and I missed it...? Was he doing anything
illegal? Ha!Things must be better by now.... at least I hope so....
WAIT~ Was he with Phyllialwaysintrouble?Blondie, hope you are doing alright.....
Hi Enerva...Yes.... go get your shots... I got my Shingles
shot at Walgreens, but my Pneumonia shot at the Docs, along with flu shots every
year....Once in awhile I get that Tetanus shot, because I am
always fooling around building, gardening, or stumbling down the
alley's.I don't know about MRI's.... I guess that's how they tell
if you have brains, but I don't think those were invented when I was 15... So
we still don't know.ANYway, you sound really GOOD!
Oh GOD HIO! He must be in so much pain! Can they DO
that? I mean replace everything again? I just can NOT imagine going through
that. You probably will need help moving him?I mean it's pretty hard walking abound with a vacuum
cleaner hanging off your leg.I just want to make you smile, and not blame
yourself...... because the hose drags all over the floor..... and don't turn
it on while he is walking. If that were my Husband, he would have said NO anyway,
about going to ER! You almost have to knock them out, to get them
there....Oh, so tell us how you REALLY feel about Chiropractors
little Spookie! Rather harsh words there missy! Ha! But yes I know.... One
worked on my back ONCE, and I was in so much pain afterwards I could not MOVE!
I had to go back to the other Chiro in his office, and cry to HIM, about what
the other one DID! Never again.... But some people swear by them.... those
Quacks!Phylli! WTH ARE you? Why are you GOING anywhere in this
heat? You must crave misery.... If you come this far out, it only gets
worse.... Except it's supposed to be a little cooler here this week.... Like
in the 80's... I feel a chill coming on just thinking about
it!Good Morning Tang! So good to see you
posting...And good advice Nettie.... Yes, take that advice with a
bottle of wine in your hand, and/or maybe a chocolate coke... Is that how they
spell obsess? I thought it was......... oh wait... it just didn't look
right... but it isCAMMI! You're BACK! I have my "Write" font set up in
bold, because it's easier to read, and then I copy and paste it here, but just
for YOU oh little whiner, I turned it off! Man, oh man.... can't please this
woman....Had fun with your family? And you didn't leave little
Joey home alone this time? With no food or water? He probably gets out your
stash of Playboy's and sits and drinks up all the alcohol in the house whilst
you are away.... Like Home Alone!Well, I mean that's what me and my Brother did when our
folks were gone... find all their illicit little books and sit and laugh at
them... We thought they were just cartoons...... BUT! We didn't drink
though... just Pepsi. Dad drank all he whiskey.Sass! WTH? I first see the .... what ARE those?
Meercats? And then underneath is Bluebird, and the Owl on a skateboard!
They are beside each other....Put down that wine Sass... look closer.....
focus.Am I the only one normal here?
Oh HIO... I think DAYS go by, and I am still writing a
post! He MUST have had those infections, and maybe that is the reason he
"blew" his knee out, and his .... how did he do that to his
elbow?Oh wait.... his job? Yes, those little bastard bacteria
get in ANY open cut or scrape. So is Mr. Superman doing alright? I mean considering what
he has been DOING?MAN! I have no complaints here~ You guys with those
Husbands that get hurt all over the place!222222nd! So good to year from you! NO damnit! I was 20
when we got married! HE was 19.... Man, that sounds so bizarre now.... But we
went together for almost 2 years before that....I was still being bottle-fed
probably! Such kids....You talked to EVERYone little 222222222! Good
job!0
