2nd, no apologies needed. We all have complaints, so you're no different then the rest of us.   As far as the cost of nursing homes and assisted living, I've found out a few things from helping my SIL with her friend.  Also had a GF who had a stroke and was in a nursing home for a year. The state will pick up the tab on the difference of their income and the cost of the home. My GF's income wasn't a lot and the state didn't make her sell her home (her boys rented it out). She was there for a little over a year. With my SIL's  friend, his income is about 5k a month, the assisted living (not skilled nursing care). Is $7500 a month. He pays all of it now until all his money is gone. When it is gone then the state will pick up the difference. I believe it's through Medi-Cal. If you or your dad are paying for all your mom' cost the staff should be able to help get you info on what the state can do to help. There's various programs available to help.

JWOOOOOOOOOOOOlove toseeyou----I had sternal pain for years, now five years out and there was some point tenderness earlier this year. I just poked around and there doesn't seem to be any.

BBL, Have enodcrin appt with local doc and bigwig endocrin report not at locals office. I may fire local endo doc today

3rd, we all have our stress. Mine was tough, but it's not a race. PTSD is hugely related to all things life threatening and that which wreaks are well being. In 2009 the medical community was NOT recognizing this with BC. Only since has it been widely accepted. BUT the acceptance didn't flow through to do anything with the knowledge i.e suggesting to patients that counseling was useful. My center had all kinds of groups, but I didn't consider them-----I didn't need them I was tough. Well lol, then I learned from a woman writing about dogs, that I was VERY WRONG. God bless her. Since then it's been on the front burner to suggest to others Bless you Stephie :)

2TA sounds like symptoms way worse. Could be working up to cellulitis chickie. Get the to a doc soon. Asap. With bugs it's not just the venom. Their bites are DIRTY. Antibiotics are used frequently. PLUS, I missed the boat on where you were stung. The nose tip is primarily cartilage. It tends to allow bacteria to set up house keeping easier b/c blood supply to the tip is less than other facial areas. Areas that have very good blood supply bring those little white blood cell infection fighters in droves.

Tang, facial skin lots to say, but on a mission. We will talk later Okay?

Good morning everyone...thank you for the nice comments on the bird I'm painting. Susan, I picked it up at an outdoor garden gift shop. If I ever go back there I'll see if they have any others.

Tang, I'm sorry you're in pain and having fevers. Hope the doc figures out what's going on.

JWoo, I had a mastectomy and I've never had pain in the sternum area. I hope the pain goes away for you soon.

2nd, yes, I think I'm feeling more energy. I have blood draws and infusion tomorrow and will know my lab numbers after that. So maybe we can do lunch soon?? I know it's not easy and you're probably spending most of your time visiting the folks. We can pm eachother.

Sas, l love what you wrote about the value of seeing a therapist/counselor. Cancer creates such trauma response, and if there is a trauma history already it can bring up so much. PTSD is definitely a problem, and therapy helps us work thru and process all those feelings and related behaviors.

Hugs to all who need a hug today......

Tang---Keywords that you used---"Pain, I can tell that something is off. I will get very cold and wrap up in a blanket for about an hour...then it breaks. Also the chest area looks pink-red again." Temp--99.3-99.6"

Good that you are seeing ID doc. Will try to give you some information to help.

TEMP--What is nornal? There was a landmark study in the late 90's. Good solid research. Problem is it didn't get incorporated into medical and /nursing teaching or practice. The conclusion of the study was: That normal temperature should be considered a range from 96-99. That individual patients baseline temperature should be considered before a judgement regarding whether the temperature is within normal range. For example, if the patients baseline temperature is 96, and they now present with a 99(yours 99.6)The temperature for that patient is abnormal even though it is within or close to normal range. Conversely, if a patients baseline temperature is 99 that is within normal range i.e not elevated on the previously accepted value of 98.6.

Within the article it gave the historical record of how 98.6 was established as normal. Very bad science, but it was from 1850(+ or -) The 1850 scientists took 50 peoples temperature and AVERAGED them. The average was 98.6.

What was shocking to me at the time is that this wasn't re-looked at by scientist until the 1990's. Then with good research the thinking in the medical community hasn't changed OH well.

You are chilling then feel a break in the temp. That tells me your body is reacting systemically. This is a key piece of info for your doc. All, the other symptoms add up to--- somethings brewing.

Posting now in hopes you gets this before visit

Additionally, any seasoned professional or listening newbie professional will pay close attention to the words. "I can tell somethings off" . Trigger words and phrases are numerous. The key is that if "We listen close, the patient will tell us what;s wrong". Regretfully, that's often not done, but for those that do, they often have marvelous reputations for finding what others don't. :)

Didn't want to muddy up the response to Tang. But need to add a comparison of good and bad research that was applied and is accepted in the medical/nursing community. In the late 90's a study was published re:"The affect of crossed legs on blood pressure." The conclusion of the study was that crossed legs could falsely elevate the blood pressure reading.

Sounds reasonable. But there was a serious flaw in the study, the exact description of the crossed legs was not defined. May sound trite. But that's the point of research----absolute definition of all steps completed in the research. I was dismayed that this study passed peer review. Sloppy study. But for several years it is now accepted practice to ask the patient to uncross their legs. The research was sloppy, but it can do no harm. A simple definition like--"all patients were seated in a chair" and further defined "with the right leg crossed over the left leg" and then repeated  "with the left leg crossed over the right leg"  and " all patients were laying in bed with legs crossed st ankle". That would have been absolute well defined steps to prove the hypothesis.

Then you have the very valuable Temperature study. Very well done by the scientific method. It doesn't make it to universal acceptance. Tangs ID doc will GET her description, I'm sure. The problem is too many other disciplines don't b/c it didn't make it to the basic teaching through textbooks.     LOL TMI

I just love reading here!!  Sas, you have so much info, I think I need to start a notebook and print things out for use in the future! Then there is always a smile waiting to be found!  And I always have a prayer for those hurting and in distress!!  I haven't had time lately to address each personally, but I have been trying to keep up, but remembering is the hard part for me!

Another day with very minimal back pain for me......woohoo!!!  Hope this is the beginning of the end of the back pain!

Just another little funny to hopefully give some of you a smile>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Yes Sassy I agree that the "chilling" was the clincher for me too. Reading back Tang's note I think ID doc is tomorrow maybe. That and the change in color since I assume Tang's been monitoring it. And "something's off".

Pawprint - thanks for the bluebird in the garden. I'm going to look for something too. Hopefully I can find one of those garden flags.

2TA - if your eye area is that inflamed I would go see a doc. Not the area to be taking chances with. You may need something for next sting. Not sure if there is an intermediate step between Benadryl and Epi-Pen. And hey girl complain all you want. We may not have an answer but we are here to listen. Make friends with wait staff in dining room. If you or your dad is not able to mark her menu they should at least note what things she likes. The "won't eat" list could change, don't be surprised. The water may taste different there or be colder/warmer than she's used to. If the juice gets too strong for her water it down. And yet strong tastes sometimes are better. Try a smaller fork - dessert size. Smart to 1/2 the food amount; maybe get smaller plate too. And I don't want to sound tacky (been there with my GM) but she is like a small child. Eating/not eating is a matter of control and one that she still has. That and there is no connection left to feeling of hunger or thirst. I usually found that pt would drink better than eat. Have you tried the sippy cup that sucks up from the bottom? I had a lot of pts that used those. Does she still suck on a straw? Then again I've been in NH that would not use straws. Can't remember the reason.

3rdtime - and same to you too. You've got a bundle on your plate. Listening post is open for business.

Smaarty - not sure about your question about logging in. Yes I do when I've shut system off but otherwise not. But I leave "Favorites" open in a tab during the day.

O my Nettie If only if only there was such a medicine. Great about the back pain being gone.

Actually wish I could post it here. B/c the info is universal in the sense someone else may learn from it. Until I shut down the computer or do another C&P it's still can be posted. It's in you ball park do I post to the general group or not. ?

Ok..so I'm a year out from last chemo....last rad was Oct 4, 2013. My question is this: how do I know if I'm cancer free..my MO has never used the letters NED or the word remission!  And I've never had any post treatment scans other than a mammo. I did see in one of my post surgery reports the NED letters but that was it. Just don't know how I can be sure without a scan. Also from reading these boards I get the impression that if it comes back, most times it is not in the breast, so I don't understand the lack of scans.

HI1--- My DH stayed around for awhile. I wrote these words in Oct 2010

"AS to your ? re:GREG. Three days after he passed he woke me up and all he said was HOW-----I responded HOW what. The night before the funeral he woke me from a deep sleep with my name --the tone was one of fear and distress. I woke with WHAT---scared my SIL . walked around house and everything was in order.???? Third time was after the funeral when I was doing the paper trail. " LOOK AGAIN". So , I went through all the paper again. I found a big insurance policy on myself, that i'd forgotten about which is being paid for by my old company and called to clarify whether he was covered- he wasn't. If I had still been employed he would have, but I was glad to have had the clarification. Plus it's now with the insurance papers in case something happens to me.

What the distress call was I don't know. "

HI1 the above was written in a that time. On the day my mother died I had a thought "-call your mother" My response "I'm okay" . I knew in retrospect that was my chance to say goodbye. But I felt solid-------no question I would see her again.

My son saw and described a person on three different occasions after my Dad died that was very Jesus like. DS was a toddler.

I studied it, I found that there were many descriptions of these experiences. with young children.

Things here are out of time sequence, but I don't care. What was important is the experience. AND the open mind of the experience.

Your finding of the bluebird card was absolutely a message from her.

Her jumping on the owl was a message to me.

For those that received a message and didn't recognize it, Perhaps the message was to go through Chevy to say her words. For me to put them in the box.

I believe in our spirit, That our spirit will transcend to a different  place. Why? Because nothing has value without this belief. Why be human and humane?

    Why the contact?

    Why anything, without belief?

Sas, it needs the rest of what you wrote, ..."why be human and humane? Why the contact? Why anything, without belief"? Adding these questions that you wrote helps us to ponder, question, consider...it just makes sense, it brings us hope.
