INSOMNIACS place to talk in the wee hours

Sas, I have read on page 523 many times, I guess I'm missing something very important! My bad!!
I don't know that I've ever had an MRI on my back in recent years!! My chiro offered to order one, but insurance would NOT pay!! that seems to be the culprit - I can NOT pay for it and insurance says not warranted!! I know you will say the doctors have to document the need so insurance will pay, but I've done all I can to convince! At least this time, he did say if I still had complaints in Nov he would talk about scans! I have no idea what he saw with my arms, I have no problems, my neighbor, a nurse, said that she thinks that since I'm right handed, my right arm is more tone than my left! she looked it over for me and could not really tell a major difference! Still doesn't make me less wondering about why he mentioned it but then just passed it by!! He says that I am NED and have been since surgery in Dec 2012! Not sure how he can be so sure as no test other than blood work has been done since the end of treatment, but he says I needed to remember that my treatment was preventative, not curative!
I was evaluated by the doctor that will prescribe the spinecor brace!! they take X-rays of my back in all different positions so that the can order the correct brace, each brace is individually made to specs.
I went to an ortho, told them when making the appointment that I needed to be seen for back & hip pain, went to the appt to only be told that they don't "do" back pain!! It's a run around, I can only miss so much work and all these appointments cut into that! I know my health is more important, but I need my job also!
Then the comment about the trouble breathing, I have no idea what that was about, I have no issue!! and when I said no, he just moved on to the next thing!!
As for the skin irritations, they are not new to me, just it's been a long time since I've had this many at once, I've also been told that I could expect for my allergies to return because the chemo could change the immunity! Therefore, the nasal drip, the sneezing, the little cough, the breakouts, really haven't worried me until today!!
Tomorrow, I will again, go back and read and try to make a call to see if I can get some answers!

good luck Nettie
Enerva..I have always been lucky that my neuropathy has always been the painful type. If I had numbness I couldn't do what I do. Can't do my half marathons anymore, but I can do 2 miles before feet blisters start from the burning pain..just ice them when I get home. I am over the anger of not being able to do what I used to, and so happy I can do what I can. It's all good

Chevy....awesome owls !!!!!
Hi everyone..hope everyone had a good day..and wishing everyone peaceful sleep and great dreams

susan you are so awesome, run, I can barely walk...love the hair do....Nettie, relax if you can, gather your thoughts, write down questions, then call and ask him to call you back or go see him again...I agree I never say should I get a CT scan, or you think I should get scanned, I tell them what I need...Just last week did it...they work or us, they keep forgetting that....
Love you guys....getting off, hopefully I can sleep, didn't take predasone,....had this disease...
HUGS ALL AROUND!!

sas...what's with the rotflol ????? It does smell like a weird visk..it will clear your sinuses out..wired mix of Vicks and some other bad medicinal smell. If I start loosing my nails I think it will be a great healer for them. Sticking with the desitin for the vag/ anal itching..would rather smell like a baby's bottom...lol
Thanks for all your research...you need a disclaimer ...my smeller doesn't work...smell at your own caution..lol

I got in the pool today for the first time this summer. Yay! The chlorine seemed to help my rashy skin some. Or is that just wishful thinking? I didn't get the bag balm yet, off to Walgreens tomorrow. I will be prepared for the stink.
Susan, I love your attitude, "it's all good". You're rocking the new do, very pretty.
Sas, what great finds thrifting. I'd love to collect dessert plates, all different, and use them for get togethers. It would give me more reasons to get together and eat dessert, yum.
Chevy, love the Dutch owls and all your garden pics.
Blondie, I hope you have a good night.
Nettie, my MO always asks about my breathing and asks if it hurts when he does the liver and abdomen check. I think he's just going through his own routine and making sure it gets covered. Do you have a nurse assigned to you that you could call to review the appointment with? I've done that before, called her up and asked why did he say this, or what does he want me to do about that. Maybe that could be a step towards putting your mind at ease.

Good Morning Ladies---yes this is the time I'm awake--the rest of the day I'm all floopy and in a blur..Wish all my calls came in now and could do my work for the day.
Blondie I hope u'r sleeping well tonite/
Blueberry u've got the docs figured out good for u.
Nettie u sound like u have more confidence in u'r issues with u'r Docs to call and get things done. Just do it, u'll be happy all the scans are done.
I hope everyone has a decent day.

Okay YES! I am the Queen of Vicks! I love that stuff! My Uncle once told me that if you rub Vicks onto your toes, it will help your toenail fungus!
I mixed up my own "cream" when I was having so much trouble with my hands.... they were peeling, sore, and blistered. Found out, after much research, it was the medicine I was using on our little Lacee for her Hot-Spots....!
So if you use Mentholatum or Vicks, mixed with the generic of Desitin, (40 %) that you get at Super Target, which has a stronger Zinc-Oxide, and and also Preparation H, you will have a nice cream that will help soothe and cool your hands! Honest! And then wear little cotton gloves at night, after you grease up your hands.
AND it clears your head!
I tried Bag-balm, vaseline, coconut oil, and any other thing I could find.... but you just have to figure out what is CAUSING the allergy, and then not DO it anymore.
Sass and I also did the weak chlorine "baths" for our hands at one time.... So it makes sense that the chlorine in your pool would help your whole body.... If nothing else, it dis-infects you, and makes you even cleaner!
You MUST dilute it.... drives Sass NUTS if you don't! Don't go stickin' any part of you in straight Clorox! It just is so slippery! My Grandma used to wash my Dad's hair with clorox, when he was little! Ha, ha!
So I guess that's all the medical stuff I can help you with today!
We went up the canyon to Black-Hawk yesterday.... Just as we got there, all the flashing lights, emergency vehicles, and it just makes your heart drop! A touring Motorcycle was down.... driver had been taken away....
Found out later, that while we were there, they CAUGHT the hit & run driver! He plowed into him, and if THAT didn't hurt enough, the biker was carrying a hand-gun, probably in a shoulder holster, and when he went DOWN he shot himself in the chest!
I don't know how he is.... but that guy that HIT him and took off, is in a sh$$ load of trouble! If the biker doesn't make it, he will be held on murder charges!
You just never know.......... The biker was 60, and from Pennsylvania.... and I think was pretty smart for carrying a gun.... Just an accident that the gun went off! IN him!

One more question, who schedules and does follow-up for your mammograms! I seem to have some confusion here! My surgeon so far, has been the one to do this, yet my MO had tried to schedule the last one and was supposed to get a copy of the results, but didn't seem very interested yesterday when I saw him! Does this mean that he is trusting the surgeon? And is this normal for the surgeon to be following this? My surgeon and MO practice at completely different hospitals!! So they do not communicate!0 -
Nettie, my surgeon didn't have anything else to do with me, after the 6 month check-up. It was my Primary Care that ordered the mammograms, and they were "Diagnostic" mammograms, which meant they would read them right then. I have one yearly now....
If you have an Oncologist, maybe THEY take over, but I don't, so I just see a Primary Care every year for the physical with blood work, and ordering the Mammograms. All you have to do is ask.....
I think I had them scheduled every 6 months for awhile, but not anymore.... I'm almost 5 years out.....

Yes, Chevy, mine are diagnostic, but for some reason, when I was just out from Rads, my MO ordered a diagnostic Mammo of only my unaffected boob....when my surgeon saw this, he was not pleased and said from then on, he would order my mammo and so he does!! I really like my surgeon and I mostly like my MO, and I do request that the results from all tests are sent to both!! However, the mammo didn't get sent to MO and he didn't seem concerned! And when I saw him yesterday, he never visually examined me, he mashed around a little under my bra for my boobs, never got under my arm, and then on top of my shirt and pants for mashing around my stomach and groin area! Just seemed weird!
0 -
Sounds normal to me.
0 -
Yes, does to me too.... I think unless you have a specific complaint about something YOU can feel, they figure all is well. My PC doesn't do any of that either.... just a general exam.... so I am not worried when I can't feel anything, or nothing hurts....
0 -
That's my problem, I do hurt, but it is dismissed, I've asked for scans, been denied by Dr and insurance and probably denied by insurance because dr doesn't really think it necessary.

Then find a new doc.

Good day, Owlettes!
Want to
share a PM I got from Jwoo last night (yes, she said I could share): in
response to what I could to help her (besides prayers and sending hugs), this
was her response:“No-
just a lot to do and organize. He is in Ohio, and I am in Texas, so it is a
little bit of a juggle, but I think i have most of it figured out now. My
friend is doing okay, no brain damage, and they should be able to save his arm.
He was coming home from a funeral when a truck swerved into his lane and hit
him on his motorcycle head-on. He is a tattoo artist and owns his own shop, so
it isn't like he's rich. He's lucky to be alive, but they are having to replace
the bones in his left arm with metal, and just got all the blood vessels and
nerves reattached, and his left leg had all but one bone broken in it. He's a
mess, but a tough guy. anyhow- thank you and let all the girls know that
i am thinking of them and will be back soon. “0 -
We discussed having a roll call like some of the other threads do. I know that I always feel like I'm forgetting someone so I compiled a list of those who have been on IT the last couple of months. Am considering posting BUT I know there are some who will object - which is perfectly fine, but I'm not up for the rude comments that come from doing such things. This list just has our avatars and any names we have also used (with the exception of phgraham, she has had so many other names here on IT I only the frequently-used ones). For those who haven't been seen on IT in a while, I have researched the last times they were on IT vs being on BCO (meaning, they may be lurking or no longer interested in IT). Remember I can always go back and edit.
Before I post the list, any thoughts? (This isn't a list with personal info, only things that anyone can search for BCO).

Not a lot of choices where I live for other doctors and the closes for travel would be 4 hours one way!

Enerva - Gorgeous pics!
Chevy - If we go camping (highly unlikely) I have thought about putting Vicks on my exposed skin to keep the bugs off. Somehow the big guns chemicals make me nervous!
PattyPeppermint - UGH! DH had that stomach virus a few weeks ago. The nurse at Kaiser said there were three different stomach bugs going around! I know he was miserable... I hope you are feeling much better now....
JWoo - so sorry to hear about your friend's accident! My brother rolled his motorcycle (all by himself!) a few years ago and was SO lucky - I think his entire lower leg is all metal now... your friend's injuries sound terrible, but fixable. Prayers for a complete recovery!

Oh, Nettie... I am so sorry you are having pain, coupled with the obvious anxiety that your doctors are not doing their jobs. But I have to wonder... did you never have pain before BC? I have had chronic pain since 2001. I have a standing order for narcotics. I've used a wheelchair when I was too disoriented from balance disorders to walk. But I learned how to pay close attention not only to my body, but the way the doctors treated me.
When doctors ask questions, it doesn't mean they think there is something terrible wrong with you. It's just protocol. They have to go through a prescribed list in order to RULE OUT various conditions. The fact that you can answer "no" to things like "Do you have trouble breathing?" is actually a very good thing, and you should stop thinking about it right now.
Pain makes us anxious, and anxiety increases our pain. It also keeps us from thinking logically about whether or not there is a crisis or not. Usually there is not.
I can't begin to guess what ailments you have, and I don't know you, but I can tell you that there is a time for anger and frustration, and a time for acceptance.
I have a degree in medical counseling, and yet I don't try to second-guess my doctors. Yes, I have fired a PCP who wanted to argue with my Oncologist, and I got a wonderful new doc in the process. But every single doctor and hospital has a huge list of regulations as to what kind of leeway they have in ordering tests for their patients.
Sometimes it sounds from your posts as if you suspect mets from each new pain or ailment you feel. That is going to make you VERY frustrated and scared. I think we all feel somewhere in the backs of our minds that a recurrence MAY be a possibility, but we can't live our lives terrified of the likelihood.
PLEASE take this post in the spirit in which it was intended. This forum is for support... and acceptance... and reassurance.... and comfort..... and I want you to know I wish all these things for you.
But at some point, we have to be realistic as to how much of what we are feeling is severe enough to have fixed, and how much is just the normal progression of whatever disabling conditions we have. I have degenerative disk disease, scoliosis, anterolisthesis at L3-L4, spinal stenosis, and fibromyalgia. There is never a day when my back does not hurt, even on drugs. But that's just the hand I was dealt.
I've gone through a ten week Chronic Pain Management program, and have a Pain Management rehab doctor. I know what is possible to fix (nothing) and things that I can do to lessen the pain. (Oh yeah, they thought I fractured my tailbone in my recent spectacular fall.)
But not once did I ever think that any of these pains in the past 3 years were associated with mets.
I agree with spookiesmom... if you are really dissatisfied with your doctors, find a second opinion. Yes, docs can make mistakes. They can let things slip through the cracks. But they usually don't.
Learn to keep good records of your symptoms and the conditions under which they appeared. Take in a good list of these, plus a list of questions for your doctors, and if they give you a good answer, try to see the truth in what they say. If you feel you are not getting good service, then really, the only other choice is to seek out another opinion from a different doc.
I feel for you. I have lived with pain for so long, I wouldn't know what to do if I woke up without it. However, I have friends who are much worse off than I am, and I try my best to think about all the things I still CAN do, not the things I can't.
Sending you big comfort hugs, and hoping that if you are not getting anywhere with the questions you ask about your physical conditions, you may want to ask your doc about your anxiety when it comes to thinking about them.
xoxoxo

Ah geez Blessings! You make soooooooooo much sense.... Okay..... You can be MY Doctor!

Right on Blessings, and thanks for the pat on the back

Blessing u said it all for Nettie--I too have all that u have but not FibroM--thank God, but I never thought about it being cancer even tho I never had anything like this before--I've gone to PT and stuff but nothing is going to make it better, u just accept it and that's it. Oh wait I do take pain meds, I don't take strong ones tho cuz I have a responsibility to my job--hahahahaha If u guys believe that WOW--plus u all know how screwed up my organs are and they are all over the place (not in the right place and it hurts-so why no one knows. But they are livable.
Jwow--OMG u'r poor friend that horrible and he works with his hands it's so important for his arms to heal properly. I hope all goes well for him.
Nettie I think we all worry about u'r anxiety thru this more thn anything, cuz it does make pain worse, it's hard not to think it's attacking again but u have to try really hard to be positive, don't borrow trouble, it'll find you when it wants to. xxxoooxxx

Thanks everyone, I'm done complaining!!
0 -
Nettie please don't stop telling us how u feel, cuz that's why we're all here. We all care, we just want u to feel better so we give u our view point of what we're going thru, so u don't feel alone. That doesn't mean u should settle for no tests, I think u should push for them so u'd know wht's going on. And at this point u might have damaged bones.. So u might be able to take something to help.xxxoooxxx

Thanks Cami, but I'm just going to do my best not to complain anymore!! Doesn't really do any good anyway!
Just read something that hit home for me......
