WOW ... what a great way to celebrate your Happy Birthday Minus Two.
Cami, hope your comp probs are solved quickly.

Chevy - thanks for the walk down memory lane. I used to show something like that for the 40s, 50s, and 60s to my history students. They would get a kick out of the cars, clothes, and music. They were horrified by the lack of technology. Poor babies!

http://www.kare11.com/story/news/local/land-of-10000-stories/2014/08/24/mooseburger-clown-camp-buffalo-minnesota/14437213/ Mimi, I hope this is the link to your clown camp. Sweet Mimi I should have said --- since I did watch the video.

Chevy, I too loved that walk down memory lane. A couple of people I did not recognize, but otherwise, pretty much everything else I did. I had forgotten about those little plastic goodies you had to click into the old 45 records to play then on the old record players. I think in later years you could get a gizmo that fit down that would hold those without....but all progress took time then.
I also recall early t.v. where people ( mostly male newscasters ) smoked while doing their shows. I also recall Johnny Carson and King??? can't recall his first name who both did a lot of smoking during their shows.
Of course, there were a lot of smokers back then -- pretty much well before news started surfacing that it was bad for you. Something the tobacco companies tried for a long time to deny and cover-up.
Anyway, I truly enjoyed since the 50's was a pretty long time ago now.
Cammie -- hope you get your computer woes straightened up. I hate it when mine is not functioning correctly. Of course, hate to admit most of the time when it doesn't it is me fowling up the works. My computer owns up to NOTHING even though so often I'm sure it is the actual culprit.
Blessings

Mimi, we watch that channel up here in northern MN! But I didn't see the report on the clown camp. Now all the coverage is on the state fair.
Mommarch, hope you get rested up from your trip.
I notice that the gardens up here in MN are usually fenced with a high wire fencing. I assume that's to keep the deer from eating the plants and maybe to keep the rabbits out of the garden, too. We see quite a few rabbits as we drive the back roads and we always keep an eye out for deer that might take a notion to cross the highway.
Our plan today was to go out in the little pontoon boat and do some fishing. Maybe out last time this summer. But it's very windy at the moment.
Happy Birthday, Minus! Enjoy your week of celebration. You deserve a great birthday week and some good meals after all you've been through with battling our horrible disease.
Hmm. I'm thinking about pancakes. Should I make some or should we drive into town for breakfast?
Happy Monday to all.

Chevy - great "50's" clip. Thanks for sharing.

I think a deer hunt may be necessary this year in Washington. One of our fires burned 381 sq miles of prime deer habitat. There were also a few smaller ones that did a lot of damage. The huge one was partly on an Indian reservation and they are more likely to hunt for meat than sport.
0 -
Never have had a problem with those who must hunt to eat. I really think God meant it that way, but once we go past that and get into almost nothing but pure sport -- I'm not so happy. I do know sometimes artificial numbers are bandied about to make sure the hunters can get out. I dislike that a lot. Also, there are reserves and people who raise deer or the express purpose of selling them to the reserves to be hunted. How sporting NOT !!!!! The deer from being fed everyday till grown by human people were not afraid and would nearly walk right up.
Was a man farther down the highway who used to raise them. At first we were amazed ( hadn't heard of anyone raising deer for the purpose of selling them to reserves ) that we would go by and see him feeding these deer. Then we found out how he came to have them in that little pen and why. A few yrs. back he took down the pen. I figure he got tired of hate mail and quit making money in such a horrid fashion.
I don't know about hate mail really, but I know I sure thought of sending him some. Never did it though.

I didn't make pancakes! We went into town and ate at the West Forty. I had one pancake and a sausage patty. The pancake was as big as a good-sized plate and the patty the size of a small plate. So I've had my pancake fix.
When we came back home, I gave myself a haircut. I trimmed off between 1/3 and 1/2 in. on the top and a little less on the sides. The back will have to wait since I can't see to trim it. I had shampooed my hair and it was wet. After I blow-dried it and used a round brush, it looked pretty good. I tried to get an apptment with a stylist I've gone to before but she was booked up. So I guess I'll have to pay myself $27!
After the haircut I decided I would check the bank account online and write all the transactions in the checkbook register. COULDN'T FIND THE CHECKBOOK! A big search ensued and still no checkbook. I finally found it in the drawer with the vacuum cleaner hose and attachments. DH and I have no recollection of putting it there but maybe I hid it in an unlikely place. Where WE couldn't find it!
The sun peeped out a few times but it has been mainly overcast all day, breezy and cool, in the 60's. Reminds me of a late Oct. day at home.
0 -
Carole, glad you found the check-book. Now that is probably the first place you'll look after this and if so.....hope its there.
Intrigued about your 60 degree day. Well, it is hot, sticky, and very humid here. Not fittin' for anyone to be out really -- or working too hard. I'm ambling and taking breaks in between which is how I came upon your post. I did ac couple of things outside -- well spaced, and am back in with laundry. Not my favorite thing, but not a hard job. In fact, I could no longer get very far into my walk-in-closet as I'm washing, putting away and piling for a good will donation.....so have to get that done so I'm not having to REACH into my walk-in to get clothes.
I envy you your day, but soon enough those kind will be here and I'll be wishing for a few more "summer-like" days so best tramp through the miserable humidity right now. Had a great summer before now and I'm going to be grateful through the sweat somehow.

Love our "resident clown" Sweet Mimi in the NEWS! Mimi you make me smile!

Happy late birthday, Minus two!!
Great weather here today. It's been an amazing spring and summer. I'm not ready for autumn yet.

supposed to get down into the 40's here tonight!

Chevy, love the memories. And your interpretation of Jackie's post about the deer and going to the car made me smile. I am glad you found the mouse carcass before DD came
The Deer sign lady - is she really for real? I just couldn't buy it....but it was outrageous.
Carole, I'm glad you got to go out for pancakes. Summer is so short! It sounds like you are thinking about getting on the road again.Four of my grandkids went back to school today...but one was feeling sick and he ended up in the hospital. (terrible coughing and a touch of asthma - he was dehydrated too - he's OK now)
The older one is in his last year of elementary school and the youngest is in his first year of kindergarten. Time flies...0 -
Morning gals! YES Joan... it was a real mouse carcass! Been there for God only knows how long... but I thought it was lint, or something...! At least it found a soft-place to kick the bucket...

Jackie and I go waaaaaaay back, so nothing I say surprises her... Ha! Oh Wow! I remember the breathing problems with my 2 Grandsons! One had the croup whenever he got sick, but MY girls used to get it also! Just a scary cough.
Then my youngest GS was born with breathing problems.... then Asthma.... Thank God he outgrew it. I remember laying him down in his baby seat, and holding that plastic face cup over his nose and mouth to give him the treatments... He is almost 26 now~
LittleGardens... Yes, we have had cooler, rainy weather ALSO! DD from Orlando is coming Wednesday.... SHE will love it also... I'll maybe get BOTH the girls to go "running in the rain" with me! We'll hold hands, and just laugh and giggle, and man, I can hardly WAIT to have them BOTH with me again! It's been almost 5 years since she was here.
She came in for my BC surgery... ! And I just want her here AGAIN with me! We went out there about 3 years ago, but STILL!
I just want her to think my hip is all healed.... that I don't have any lasting effects.... It's her Sister that has been all through this with me.... The one that comes over with her Shirley Temple movies, and we have "movie dates" all the time... THAT is something I really look forward to...
So she knows what it was like... me trying to walk again... without a walker... just trying to get back to "normal"...... Oh I can just hear Cammi saying "THAT will never happen!"...... Carole, I am so GLAD you found your check-book! I was upset when I "lost" my STARBUCKS card.... Ha! I found it though... We don't carry a check-book... I make them out at home...
Ever since I had my Debit card "read" through my purse, and they STOLE my identity, and tried to take almost $2 thousand out of my account, I don't carry any card, and just carry a little cash. No cards.... MasterCard caught it, right after they tried to use it, and called me, then cancelled my card... Told me what to do next.
It just scared me so much, you will do ANYthing to protect yourself from then on... careful about any information you might have "out there."
0 -
This is how someone, SOMEhow stole my Debit card, and my Identity.... And it takes forever to straighten out everything they try to do with your SS number, your name and address... everything! I got a call from Capital One, asking me about a new credit line I was trying to open. And this was 8 months after!
It wasn't me... it was the same people.....
0 -
We were refinancing our house years ago for lower interest rate and I was told my SS # was invalid and not mine! It turned out that Maria Peachy in the hospitality business was using my #. In TX teachers pay into teacher retirement and not SS, so I had no idea. A fellow I reported it to told me that because I'd moved from one district to another, I had a new number. It was so astounding that he thought people got a new number when they changed jobs. It took forever to get everything worked out and she hadn't been able to get anything using my number. I'm really careful now.
0 -
That's good Teacher.... I had to call SS so they could put a block on my SS # and they give me a new "code" to put on our income tax forms every year. I had to report it not only to the Denver Police, but 3 credit agencies, plus the Federal Gov....... I don't know if they EVER catch whoever did it.
They tried to charge $1,500 for Spirit Air tickets, also they send my # to Florida, "(probably by email") so their "friend" can use it to charge another $500 for tickets from there.
I'm just thankful Mastercard caught it that night, and called me.
I don't keep much cash in my debit card account at the credit union any more... I just like to use cash.... unless it is something big, then I take my card, wrapped in a foil pouch.
And take it out of my purse when I get home. And I check on my account online at least once a week. You just get paranoid after that happens.
This is where I started..... after I called my credit union.

Strange weather forecast here. Tue - sunny, Wed - decreasing clouds, Thu - decreasing clouds, Fri - rain. I'm really curious what the clouds are decreasing from if it's totally sunny.

Wren and GardenGumby, Mike and I arrive in your neck of the woods on Thursday Aug. 28th. Di is picking us up at the airport. We never did decide where we will all meet. You three live there, so whatever you decide is fine. Anyone else live in the Seattle/Tacoma area? Please join us!
Would it be good to meet someplace between the airport and downtown? We get in at 12:05 but have to round up luggage so I imagine it will be 12:45 before we leave the airport. Do you want to meet for lunch? The restaurant at Hotel FIVE where we are staying closes at 1:30 every day so that's out. Our tour picks us up at the hotel at 3:50 pm so I'm up for whatever you decide.
Also, AlaskaAngel and Di ...where will we meet in Ketchikan a week later on Thursday, Sept. 4th? My tour will be over about 10 a.m.

You can set up alerts on your bank account and credit card accounts. I get an e-mail whenever there's a charge over $50 on our two Capital One credit cards. DH just shakes his head when he comes home and I ask him, "What did you buy at Home Depot for $92?" I get messages in advance when a credit card payment is due. Messages from the bank regarding withdrawals over a certain amt. A message if my balance gets low. Etc. Etc.
It's fairly easy to keep tabs on what's happening with financial accts. Now you can probably get texts instead of e-mails since almost everyone has a smart phone these days. I was amused when we attended a bluegrass festival last Sat. and noticed the number of gray-haired people in the audience consulting their smart phones! It's not just the teenagers constantly checking their phones. DH has even joined the texting crowd and it has been a good thing because he and his brother stay in touch much better than they did when their communication depended on phone calls. Sometimes there's a whole conversation going when someone sends out a group text and individuals reply.
It was 52 degrees this morning when we got up. We turned on the heat for a little while to take off the chill. About mid-morning we went to Eagle View GC just down the highway and played our last round of golf there for the summer. Next Tues. we plan to depart, towing the camper to some other places.
Sandra, Di, and Wren (maybe Garden Gumby, too?) I wish we could all join you for lunch on the Pacific Coast. Be sure and take some photos of the group to post. And if you eat some really good food, take a picture of that, too, so we can all salivate!
Chevy, hope that visit with your daughter and family goes really well.
Where is Rita? Is she posting on the Illinois forum? I miss her.
Hugs for Blondie and anyone else who could use a hug.

Chevy, I hope you are feeling really great when DD arrives. How great that you will be spending time together...I am sure you will impress her with your progress.
The video you posted is something we all need to be reminded about.
Last year I I asked for a travel bag that has protective lining. I use it when I fly but I probably should use it all the time. We go to NYC at holiday time and it is so crowded that it would be easy for those thugs to steal IDs.Carole, I agree it is possible to keep tabs on account activity. Several times I have had my bank call me to question a purchase and at least once it was something we did not do. I wonder how they know what to red flag. I don't use a debit card for online or charge purchases. If something is connected to a bank account, I only use it at the bank.
I hope you have enjoyed your summer by the lake, Carole. It sounds like you will be continuing your travels for awhile. I have not had a road trip that lasted longer than a day in so long...I wish the summer were longer so I could plan one.
Sandra, I can't believe your departure date is here! Have a wonderful trip and to all who are meeting up, I wish you a great time. Don't forget to send photos!
My grandson left the hospital today after 24 hours. He will miss some school but he will be fine. I wish DD would slow down and recognize his need for treatment before it's an emergency. She has to keep her kids busy all the time As kids get older, asthma can be quite dangerous.
Wren, so funny about the weather report.
Cammi, hope you get your computer problems resolved soon. Without you around, things could get out of hand!

You can buy those little aluminum card holders, or make one yourself, with card-board, Duck Tape and aluminum foil....
But I've also bought things online, with my card, but mostly using Pay Pal, or any trusted site.... When it happened to me, I had no clue! We were just walking through the mall, seeing lots of shoppers walking AND sitting, and somehow, without us even knowing what was going on, my card was read, while I was carrying my purse over my head, across my shoulder...
They must have just been sitting there, waiting for people to walk by. Now I walk next to the store windows with my purse on that side... and I don't even carry my card....
It would be funny if someone came up, and tapped me on the shoulder, and asked, "But where is your CARD?"
Yes Joan, DD will be here this afternoon... I'm almost ready..... FINALLY! Even have her some favorite snacks in a little basket up in her room... I have to go up and turn the little fan on, and spray fragrance.... Ha! It has been really cool here lately, and she will love that.....
Asthma sneaks up on you..... Even when I'm too busy working, or get out of breath.... sometimes the weather, will start an asthma problem.... I just run in and use the Advair inhaler.... It's tough with kids, because they can't seem to inhale deeply enough from the rescue inhaler to have it help.... I don't use a rescue inhaler, I just have the 12 hour Advair one, but I don't really have any problems, unless I start to wheeze. I'm glad he is better!
I don't know where Cammi is!!!! Maybe I can track her down somehow..... It's usually EASY after she takes a shower, but not so much in between!

I haven't posted here for awhile but did want to chime in about debit card fraud, etc.
Among my DH, DS and I our debit cards have been compromised 5 times in the past year or so. Someone took 1500 out of my son's account and bought jeans in New Jersey. We have never been there. Mine was part of the Target and Michael's breaches and DH's card was "tested" at Home Depot in Florida and California. Unbelievable since they never had possession of our cards.
We get alerts too on our bank accounts and credit card accounts. Use the credit instead of debit function on our debit cards esp when buying gas outside- they recommend going inside and never withdraw $ from AtM machine outside.
Of course you can do all that and still get your account hacked but short of not using your cards it's all the safeguards we know of. I check our balances regularly.
I read where they are testing a new procedure with gas station purchases. So far fraud is down@Chevron. They track your purchases and the places you typically go so if you start going elsewhere and spending a lot more this msg comes up for possible fraud alert. Pretty cool, hope it works.
Do you guys remember when Bill Gates' account was hacked? They finally caught the guy ordering a printer from some warehouse in New York? So if they can get in his account.,.
What great weather you all are having. I'm jealous. We have the mid 90s all week. That's what living in the South is like in Tennessee.
Sounds like some fun trips planned. Never been to Seattle - heard its gorgeous.

Yes Diane! We had snow up on Mt. Evans last night, and it gets down in the 50's overnight.
That's right.... the thieves "test" your card number, by charging a dollar, or something.... and my 2nd "purchase" was for $1500 for those airline tickets.... They email your number to anyone they want, and they in turn use your number to charge!
The Banks "know" your spending habits, and will question you, if something seems "strange."
They don't HAVE to have posession of any cards.... just that "reader" that you can buy online!
So the best way is not to carry any, without having them in an aluminum foil case, or those other ones they show....

Sigh!!! Sometimes I get really frustrated at the amt. of thievery in this world. I don't have a debit or credit card. I do transactions by check or cash. I actually only send a few checks out by mail, and mostly carry my checks around town to pay for larger bills.
I guess if you are an actual thief you would not mind, but in my naïve' head I would find it so nerve-wracking to make a small purchase to see If my "card reader" worked, and then to attempt the bigger purchases.....and then be super annoyed if they didn't go through and I had to go to "the" next stolen number. I guess I'm more of an instant gratification type - if I work for my money, and the person I work for hands me a check and I cash it...'viola' I have money and no fooling around with attempts......it is mine and I can use it for what I need.
I just hate though that due to thieves we have to come up with more and more "fixes" and while I can feel relatively safe the way I do things......I'm always a bit concerned when I sent checks through the mail --- that at some point paying that way will be compromised. Dh has had to "change" debit cards twice I think and credit card once. I always on his case, but he has been more cautious since the last time a couple years ago.
We live in a very small town -- 14,000 here and a pretty local bank.....so they are great at catching things going on -- but when something does happen there is a certain amt. of inconvenience attached anyway.
The heat here continues, but I'm so used to it ( still don't like it at all ) that I just do my thing and then get back inside.
Having to work on our big dog Bill. This time of yr. there are tiny little burrs on some of the weeds. He has gone through and he has jillions it seems on him. So, every day at dusk we will have to go out and remove them till whenever. I wish I knew a better solution but I think pulling them out is the only way.....he is an active dog and doesn't care where he goes so we face this every yr. ( Oh joy )! Hoping to make progress and reach the point soon where more are coming-out than are going in.
Take care if you are in a 'hot' area -- and oh my --- I really do need to stow-away on that Alaskan cruise. We will go into about five days of rain so should cool some -- and I don't care so much about the temps as the humidity. If that goes....I'm ok.
Blessings
