Dogs...now there's a topic I can really dive into. Peggy O'Neill is my current sweet Golden Retriever. Maybe some of you know that favorite Irish drinking song. My last name is O'Neill, so Peggy seemed right for my first female puppy. She is a year old now and a gigantic specimen for a golden. Before her I had three Springer Spaniels in succession. They are lovely sweet dogs. Just we're none available when I needed another companion badly. Peggy is a lover and wants to be petted as much as possible. Just what I needed at the start of this medical adventure we are all on. Night all. This grandma will sleep in a quiet house tonight- with Peggy.

Mimi, congrats. You chose a very people oriented dog. Peggy will be loyal and loving and though her puppy stage will last about three yrs. she will settle into life with you -- just like an old shoe. She will be mellower than mellow then.
Trying to rain again here. For both days no rain was predicted for us, but that is not unsual. Around these parts we expect what we get, when we get it -- predicted or not.
Chevy -- I was smiling and moving ( quite a lot ) in my chair to that link you put in. I really like some of the "stuff" like that as it sort of brings one of the good parts of a person all the way out for just a while.
Hope you are all going to have a good day. Mine is another working day at home which is fine with me.
I'll be back later to check in again. Happy, happy Wednesday.
Blessings
Jackie

OMG Chevy that's beautiful but YOU wrote it, this can't be happening.

Cammi, yes, I think she is talking about landing at the dock near the town "tunnel". Sandra and Di, will your ship be docking, or will the passengers be shuttled to shore with the ship anchored out in the narrows?
We are enjoying some really nice weather here today and I hope it will be nice for us all when you arrive. Either way, it will be fun meeting both of you!

Peggy the giant golden and I did sleep well, Cami, until the storm had me hopping out of bed to lower the plastic window things on our screen porch. The lightening and thunder woke me just before the downpour began. Or maybe Peggy woke me to alert me. Fur baby is the perfect description. Night all.

I hope everyone is sleeping nicely now--I woke up to my D, it obviously couldn't wait til morning. I just said I don't get it as much--EEEEEE that's 2x this week, Why do I tempt fate that way. Oh well, can't help it I guess--The weather is getting hotter and hotter this week, see how the weekend goes.
Oh I hope u all can meet up especially in Alaska. Sounds funny to me. But a good time.

Cammi, Lilhoney..... WHAT are you eating? We have to figure this out.... I'll be your Doctor..... Did you switch times for taking your medication? Or did you have some combination of foods or "drink" that interferred with the natural absorption of your Amino Acids or something? ( I just felt so smart there for a minute!)
Usually getting the big D is from something you in-advertantly did or consumed..... (I can't help it.) So figure out what it was that caused this significant shift in your digestive system, and correct "it."
So take something like ImmodiumAD or eat a box of Saltine Crackers. Then call me in the morning.

I like that quote of the day, Jackie.
Thank you, Chevy, for providing a clue to Cammi's mysterious "waking up to the D."
We're having an overcast day so far. DH and I slept in until 8:30. Lazy bums!
DH and I were in Ketchican for a few days in 2011 when we did our big Alaska rv trip. Wish I'd known Alaska Angel was there. It would have been fun to connect. The amusing thing about most of the touristy shops is that they don't even open when the cruise ships aren't in! And so many of the jewelry shops in the towns along the Inland Passage are owned by the cruise ship lines. The prices are jacked up sky high so that 75 percent sale price is about what the items should cost.
With all that said, we bought a couple of nice carvings in one of the shops and probably paid far too much.
Happy Thursday.

Jackie, I put today's quote in my journal.

Hi Carole, I would have enjoyed meeting you too. My husband and I have seen a lot here over the years. The town was originally mostly a fishing town with mining in the area, and then in the 1950's became a timber town as well, and was on its way to becoming a mining town too. Timber mostly shut down over a decade ago. Mining has been mostly nonexistent for decades but there is more interest in it now that the prices are up. Canada is busy developing nearby mines at the border near us, with tailings that may affect the fisheries on our side. But mostly the town has been limping by on tourism. We don't happen to be part of the tourism trade ourselves. One nice aspect is that relatively unknown artists with talent sometimes are selling their stuff here for a bit less, but most of it costs more. (But then, a Costco jar of nuts sells here at our local grocery store for over $20 -- the cost of living is higher here). What is kind of creepy to us is what you mentioned -- so many tourists are encouraged to buy jewelry here that is not Alaskan for the most part -- and a good number of the shops here are closed all winter and are related to the cruise ship industry, where they used to be just local mom-and-pop family stores. We used to get a half dozen ships stopping here in a week, and they had no more than 1,000 crew and passengers each, but now 3 to 6 ships stop here on most days, and they carry a crew and passengers of 3,000 or more each. It is still a wonderful vacation to take, to be able to relax and see long stretches of wilderness between towns while having all the comforts and recreation on the ships, with no need to "do the driving"!

OH Chevy---7 yrs of this different doc. different tests--being in the hospital a week at a time on different occasions and it started the first week I had chemo and never stopped. The food intake makes no difference ever., so I know it's part of my life--BTW my sister has it, not as bad, and my cousin too. So we share some family thing here and no one could figure out any of us. And I take a script med for it. Stronger than immodium. It just tires me out most of the time.
Carole u'll be heading home soon--Wishing u safe travels.

Cammi, that is awful....! I don't know what chemo you had? I did CAFx6 and didn't realize back in 2002 that the antibiotic in it wiped out the natural flora/fauna. Nothing worked right for me until a little over a year ago I started eating organic yoghurt on a regular basis with all the organisms in it. We do such a number on our microbiome with some treatments and no one clues us in about how to deal with it afterward. It is like, YEA, you're done, we did a great job together, so long, next patient...0 -
I am 66 and this is my second time dealing with breast cancer. I was cancer free for 8 years but it's back in my liver. I had 37 weeks of chemo and spent the next year recovering. Now my marker is up and I'm in for more scans. Worry never ends. How are you?

WELCOME Lola -- I am sorry to hear that you had to fight the beast a second time after 8 yrs.. I'm glad you found us though. This blog ( BC. Org was here 8 yrs. ago, but you didn't mention if you were here then. It doesn't matter -- just nice to have you now. We are a small group so not easy to get lost here and we truly enjoy being a part of each others lives. I hope you will come back a lot. The door is always open and the coffee pot on.
Well gals -- it is hot and humid here today. We took Baby Boss to the beauty shop today. He will get a GOOD hair-cut and the next few days which will be a reapeat of this one won't bother him neqar as much.
I'm not liking this, but at least this really hot, muggy stuff held off for Balloon Fest. The rain wasn't so great then either, but at least we did not have the awful heat.
I'll be roaming around here a little later. See you then.
Blessings

Hi Lola, and welcome to the "new 40's"!It is so disappointing to deal with it again. A friend also had long stretches in-between bouts too, and she was one of the most active women on the planet clear into her late 80's.
We share all kinds of thoughts here. I personally like knowing that others actually experienced growing up in the times I did -- SO different from today!

I shall have to report to the mods. Spell checker seems to have wandered into some air-conditioned building -- isn't here just now.

Lola, we're so glad you found us but sorry about this turn of events in your life. 37 weeks of chemo!!! That has to be some kind of record. You poor baby. Please know you can share anything here and it doesn't have to be happy and positive. Sometimes we just need support. We try to do that here with humor, empathy, and sharing our stories about our daily lives.
Mimi, love that your Golden is names Peggy. We always name our dogs and cats "people" names. Our first dog was a Golden Retriever named Alex who lived to be 12 which is ancient for big dogs. He is dearly missed.
Di, the pugs all lined up is so funny! Do they always sleep close together? One of my Facebook groups is a senior dog rescue place and they have two elderly pugs who are both blind. They sleep right next to one another and have blended in quickly with the other dogs in the pack.
AlaskaAngel, since you and Di are the experts (this will be my first time in Ketchikan) I'll meet you where you decide. My husband and I are not shoppers. We'll spend the first 3 hours in port on a private tour designed for us. I sent them a list of what we were interested in. Ha-ha, I told them I wanted to find a picture-perfect natural wild salmon run with a bear fishing for his lunch and an eagle in a nearby tree. Not so interested in hatcheries. We like nature in it's purist form. I also want to see totem carvers. Is Saxman Village the best place to do that? The only other thing on our agenda that day is to have a look inside Dolly's House so we can complete our tour of brothels, which started in Chicago a few months ago. (Looking for a photo of Chevy and Cammi on the walls, LOL.) We are on the Golden Princess and will not have to tender in, but will actually dock at a pier around 6 a.m. My tour is 7 to 10 a.m. and we leave at 12:30. Di, what are your plans for that day?
Chevy, I loved the link to the people dancing all over the world. (I stole it and posted in on my Facebook page too.)

Welcome to our group, Lola. I'm sorry you qualify to belong among us. As Sandra said, feel free to express your moods and emotions.

Sandra, I do that all the time too! I mean with Jackie's quotes, and pictures, poems from the gals....

Welcome Lola....sorry you are "getting a re-run" of this frickin' disease. CANCER sucks!
Puffin....most of my hubby's relatives live in ND....brother in Williston (long before the oil boom), Cousins in Grand Forks, nephew in Fargo sometimes at NDU (Hubby grew up in Northern MN about 90miles from Grand Forks...we still own part of the farm there....(other brother has lived in Barbados for 30+ years)
I am cutting this short as for the last two days ALL my post have disappeared.

Sandra, my doggies are Boston Terriers.....they love to sleep together all day/every day....at night when it is time for bed we say okay time for bed....they all run into their bedroom and hop into their individual crates and wait for a treat. (two story condo of crates-3 on each level......in the am after they eat the younger one go back to bed (to their crates)for about an hour. In the afternoon I will the 3 younger ones go in to "take a nap" and they run down the hall and into their bedroom/crates......such creatures of HABIT! We have a large bagel bed in the living room that they share and if anybody does not want to share we have 2 wood end table crates with a bagel bed and blankets in each. My oldest one is blind but gets around fine.
Mimi...tried before to say how much I love our Clown Mimi....love your outfit....With your golden Peggy (with training) and you as a clown would make a great THERAPY TEAM in a hospital &/or nursing home....to bring smiles to humans faces. (I was a a pet partner team with one of my previous bostons...that was such an inspiration to others, she had lost a leg to cancer and lost her vision when she was 4....she had an intuition that was amazing....smelling the side of my girlfriends head that had brain cancer on that side, pushed her hand under a lady's hand and the lady who did not respond to anyone responded by petting her over and over again, and while working with an autistic child along with a OT and sometimes a PT, she developed a trust for my Dolly and said her FIRST WORDS ever to my dog.
Cutting this short...again
