TRIPLE POSITIVE GROUP

I don't think I needed either but when I saw my MO in the spring telling her there as no way I could go back on Anastrozole because of the depression she start all in on me being high risk for recurrence due to tumor size, etc. Granted I am on Exemestane and doing fine. Still don't believe I will have a recurrence. Just like I didn't believe I would have anything in my nodes… and my BS thought for sure I would have micromets. Just a gut feeling that's all.

Here's my thoughts on Her2+ BC...either Herceptin works or it doesn't. That's the only reason I can think why I've seen women with <1cm tumors have a recurrence and those with >5cm tumors don't.
What do you or anyone else think of this? I've read on a few threads where Her2+ ladies have had their MOs tell them that the Herceptin is what's important, not the AIs/Tamoxifin (for trip +).

I think it brings up the question of what is causing the recurrence - if it is early, say in the first couple of years or sooner, it could be the Her2+ driving the recurrence, and if it is a recurrence a number of years down the line, it could be the ER+. While I am very happy to have had the opportunity to receive Herceptin, and participate in a Her2+ recurrence prevention trial, I am also glad to be able to take hormonal therapy. It is hard to say which is more important because they are doing different things.

I agree with SpecialK. The HER2 factor is probably not the issue I need to worry about at 4 years out. It's the ER/PR factor. If it wasn't I would be taking the Exemestane and my MO wouldn't be hinting at doing 10 years.

Hi everyone, I'm Sandy, new to this group, and wanted to add that I will be starting neo adjuvant chemotherapy next week with Taxotere, Carboplatin, with targeted therapies of Herceptin and Perjeta.

Hi Sandy - I'm on the same chemo regimen, just a couple of cycles ahead of you. This whole site has been a tremendous help to me. I hope it is for you, too.
I'm on a thread for people who started chemo in August 2014, which has also been helpful for me. There's one for October, 2014 here.

Wanted to say "sorry" for butting into anyone's ongoing conversation....Am not proficient when it comes to online communication. Take care, everyone!

When my BS gave me the path report he said the good thing about being trip pos is that it gives me more options to treat this. I'm glad to have the option of taking hormone therapy. Nobody (MOs) has ever said the Her2 part trumps the HR part. It's interesting to read how different docs treat people.

susyq52 Welcome! You are not butting in. We are here to support you!

Speaking about me specifically my MO always said he felt any recurrence for me would be further out rather than in the first few years. Called the first 3 years the " acute" stage.
Welcome suzyq52
There's no such thing as butting in here. Trouble, question, answer ... Just type...,someone usually shows up relatively quickly.

Ashla, did he give you a reason for thinking this?
Suszq52, welcome! I would suggest reading through the Aug thread so you can see what some of the ladies have dealt with (or not), and their solutions/recommendations.

Hi Susyq52 and welcome .
My MO told me that the most important thing that I was doing was the herceptin but I think he said that because it is the most aggressive part of our BC - at least that is what I think he meant. I know that he absolutely thinks the Ai's are important also and would not be happy if I didn't want to do them but he did say that in his opinion they were not as important as the herceptin. I wonder if in the case of reoccurence for some and not for others if there isn't something else at play - another unidentified receptor that doesn't respond to the chemo, ai's or targeted therapies.

All these treatments they give triple pos girls have their benefits ...& s/es as well.
But the game changer for us and a lot of the thinking in cancer treatments of all kinds is Herceptin! Immunotherapy V or W chemotherapy . It has led to way to several of the other treatments that follow!
Mommato3
Didn't say specifically ... Will ask him next time .. But the conversation led me to believe two main factors . One... Most ER pos recurrences come late and two .. I had a pCR to neo adjuvant chemo.

linda505 you have a much smaller tumor than Ashla and me. Our chance of recurrence is higher. Maybe that's why.

Hi all! Wanted to share what Breastcancer.org has to say about this article:
Perjeta Boosts Overall Survival in HER2-Positive Metastatic Breast Cancer
September 30, 2014
Final results from the CLEOPATRA study showed that women diagnosed with
HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer who got Perjeta, Herceptin, and
Taxotere lived about 1.5 years longer than women who got only Herceptin
and Taxotere. Read more...0 -
Yay Special! And I am now 2 years out from diagnosis, so I hope to follow in your very beautiful footsteps!
Violet, can I just say that I developed such awful hemorrhoids from chemo, that I was on here having detailed discussions with my compatriots? It is the nature of the beast. We all need to talk :-)
