  • Yeah.... I recall the Dallas patient told the nurse he was from Liberia, but did not disclose his very close contact with a dying Ebola patient there. No matter, still a sad story. I have a feeling that his family are going to be treated like lepers.

Spookie and Rosevalley - thanks for the info on the CPAP. Actually, it wasn't that bad last night. I had two different sized masks to wear - both of them covered my nose AND my mouth, so I could breathe naturally through either. I did switch in the middle of the night, just to see which was better.

The air coming from the machine was more like a gentle breeze than a jet engine, which is how DH described his first night. Tonight I picked up a different mask that just goes over the nose. At least Kaiser is very willing to work with you to find something that fits!

I got to take a look at the actual report from the Pulmonologist - I have both Obstructive Sleep Apnea (the most common kind that loud snorers have, even though I don't "snore"), and I have Central Sleep Apnea, where my brain does not tell my body to breathe. Seriously - I am aware if it even when I'm awake. I just don't breathe. And when I finally do, it's just a shallow inhale, not a huge gasp of air. Naturally, when I'm asleep, my blood oxygen goes really low. I have a lot of reasons to make this CPAP thing work.

    Smaarty - love the floor...

    2TA - huge honkin' hugs.....

Gotta go, time for another family email update, sister transferred to Rehab facility yesterday.

    Love all you Owlettes!!!!

YES Smaarty! I love that flooring.... Laminate, right? Your planks are
wider than ours are, but I love the color...

But we DID put down an "indoor-outdoor" carpet for under the table, because
if we sat on those chairs with the rollers, you could go sliding into next week,
if you bent over! I think it is about an 8X10. I like that type of carpet,
because the chairs roll over it easier than one with pile.

See? I sound like I know what I am talking about.... and sometimes I do.
    Ha!

I did that TWICE, and went down on my knees! But it is soooooooooo much
easier to take care of, and cleaner than our carpet. I occasionally use Bona
with a damp cloth, on a little swiffer mop and it cleans great!

Okay Blessings.... I looked at the web-site also! Thanks for posting
that. It could really help a lot of people!

Hmmmm was that your area CHEVY?

    Afternoon Owlettes, sleeping allot ?

Blessings great link. Your right how could we of missed it.      On the post re: Duncan almost all was misinformation from the first days of the Dallas problem. It wouldn't help to try and correct it though. There is allot more responsible journalism going on now. The transition has been interesting. While the misinformation was a problem, I think it was a wake up call for everyone. I said earlier that the CDC and NIH were responsible for allot of what went wrong. That will be corrected as time goes on. Throughout the world agencies that should have done more sooner are taking some serious scrutiny. Many articles are saying they don't want a repeat of Dallas or Madrid as a reference point. Too bad for those cities, but if it spurs people to do better, then we are all better for it.

Spains still in deep trouble. Besides the mismanagement of everything related to Teresa Rameros, the economic hit is already huge. Spain was on thin ice to begin with.  They're government folks are still in the blame game. The people aren't buying it. It's going to take Spain years to recover from this.

Back to bed :) May be back later

Smarrty I think I may have missed your leaving ------HAVE A ROCKING BOAT TIME!

    I know Spookie!

    http://www.wcvb.com/news/black-bear-gets-trapped-i...

It was way South-East from here....  like on the way to Castle Rock, & Colorado springs...

A lot of mountains around there to the West...  Poor guy was just stuck & couldn't get out!  He must have smelled food in that car somewhere!  But they got him out, without hurting him....   They have laws in Colorado Springs, and other mountain areas ordering everyone to have bear-proof trash containers!

A friend of ours saw a bear open a VW bus sliding door, open the cooler inside, and pop the top off a coke. He then drank the coke.

I'm sorry MoMOm!  Are they business calls?  For your job?  Or like Cammi's job.... those 1-900 numnbers?    JUST kidding!  Can you just leave it "on" and they will get a busy signal?  I do that around election time.... then hang it up before we go to bed.

Mommy, The phone rings and you don't want to answer it _don't. It's very liberating. The caller ID does make it even easier, to weed out calls. But the bottom line answering is a choice :)

  • The camera footage on our TV news coverage wasn't all that great.

It looked like the bear was driving the car!!!! Happy

I think there are bears in north Florida, just another reason I don't like camping. Gators aren't all that smart, a chain link fence stops them.  Can't climb either. Don't raid trash cans, but do eat a dog as big as a golden retriever.

Did you all see the news yesterday? In Southern CA there was a guys motion detector/ camera that got tripped by a mountain lion walking across his car! They thought it was a young cat about 75 pounds. Still the home owner was astonished - he walks his dog all over at night! he's going to think twice now! I have seen Mountain lions in the wild 2 times. Once at dusk in Meadow Vista CA and the other at 4pm on the Breitenbush River in Detroit Oregon. Gorgeous animals.. fast. They bolted when they saw us. We have seen, weasels, otters, a black bear (we were in a canoe and it was crossing the river), bob cat, beavers and something we thought was a fisher up in high Meadows/ forest at Yosemite. Looked like a big badger but could climb trees. pretty neat. we were never able to figure out just what that animal was, too far away. That's an amazing photo of the young bears on the fence.

My Mom lives in Sarasota and the gators in the ponds around her house scare me. Sometimes they get HUGE and they watch you as you walk by, when I walk my Mom's cocker. Unnerving to see their eyes. I have heard they move pretty fast too. When the gators get 10 feet they call someone to kill them or move them out. yikes!

Gators get killed at any size if determined to be a nuisance.  That means when dummies toss them marshmallows then get pi$$ed when the gator eats their dog then the trapper gets called, dead gator.

No one may want to follow my estimation or observations  on Ebola stuff --------I have background on EMS, ER, Disaster, Lot's of other stuff. What did I learn on the journey of learning of these things.  Management was a hard sell that any thing that Jaccho didn't require was necessary. Management was a hard sell.

Did a disaster plan, based on Alex Butman's model. Tailored it to the hospital. Alex took it on his speaking circuit. His theory of a plan, my application of the plan. It's far and wide. The plan works well if understanding of the components are understood.

Ironically, in the hospital I worked in Florida, they used the plan. Problem is the hospital buildt with multiple floors with windows at every end. Which negated Butmans Plan. It wasn't designed to have windows at the end.

When we had a blow in what year I forget___All patients were ordered to be in the hall. I took all my patients in the bathrooms because of framing. The explanation was ----look at that great window at the end of the hall. "if that window is breached this becomes a wind tunnel."  Not good

Problem--great plan............ applied wrongly............... I really pissed offed the supervisors because they had never studied the subject--ergo didn't have a clue they were following a plan that in the the original described why windows were a problem

----I refused because I knew the consequences.......... but since I could quote stuff, they let me be and my patients.

Why does this mean anything in the space of Ebola. All that have an insight, however different, must be listened too. Ohhh so smug soooo bitchy, sooo smart, sooo pain in the ass. Not blowing smoke, just being real.

Sassy - I will never forget being in the ICU in Sarasota and talking to the nurses and just flaberghasted that they only made 23-28.00 back in 2003. My Dad was there as a patient. I live on the West Coast where salaries are double that. Sarasota was such an expensive place to live that I couldn't understand why the salaries were so low. Especially with the need and scarcity of  ICU nurses.

I know those hurricane windows are insanely expensive because my brother spent over 1000.00 for one window in his condo. Ouch. They haven't had a bad storm in a long time. Maybe the window at the end of the hospital was a special one outfitted for storm force winds? I don't know.

I do know one thing, being all geared up in all that protective gear is HOT and claustrophobic. When you add human error and the desire to get "air" get the mask off and breathe again, there are bound to be mistakes in peeling off the protective gear once you leave the patient's room and enter the room just outside the door. I believe that's was how the Spanish nurses aide became infected - touching her face as she removed the protective gear. I can see how easily that could happen. Human error is the achilles heel in all these disaster plans. Just my opinion.

I was writing old Gertie stories some where,  Gertie was MOM, she was the greatest, she was there for  every thing. If I didn't write the Broad story here and the gun story, I'll find it and bring it.............. Was thinking about her greatest story. !949.  Not sure how they connected. But Mom took in an unmarried pregnant girl-J. Think of the time. She stayed for her entire pregnancy. Mom had Bobby from 3 days old. Not sure where Bobby's Mom was. But Gertie took care of Bobby from 3 days old. Where J went to after the birth wasn't known.  Then Mom had us---twins. A 2y/o, Bobby 9mos, and twins>> 1950. OMD 4 kids in diapers. I can't even conceive of four kids in clloth  diapers

Bobby's Mom got her life straight. Came to my Mom and asked for Bobby at 14 Months. Mom gave him back.. They stayed friends till death.  Bobby till this day never knew the beginning. J married, H accepted Bobby as his son. They had 3 children.Lived a full and happy life.

Poor dear brother had a bad thing with separation from Bobby. Gertie finally one day got him to answer what was wrong? "Mommy I'll be good, don't give me away like you did Bobby"  Oh Mom had a hard time explaining. . For years Mom & dad  kept contact with the family, but visits became less in time. Then less. But J never lost contact with Gertie. J's family contacted us recently re:J's death. They know there was a connection to Gertie that was very strong, but they will never know why.

Had a cousin who fathered a child.  He had no clue. But the adult child followed the breadcrumb trail. Not only found my cousin as his father The young adult, found that he was related and the only living relative on his mom' side to a huge manufacture of a staple USA product worth millions. This grandfather received him with way open arms.   Isn't that coolHappy

Sassy, don't know if you knew I am a birthmom. Placed my son for adoption in 1970. He found me through adoption.com, where I had registered, in 2005. We have a really good relationship. His adoptive mom died of cancer right after I was dxed. Coincidence? I think not.

Oh wow u guys chatter a lot. First I want to welcome the newbies--this is a great thread,  no judging and fun sometimes and I like the cold as MIL's heart. hahaha My first MIL was like that about being clean and one time I just handed her a mop and told her to make herself comfortable and clean all u want. Not nice I know, imagine what I would say now.

I don't want to mention any names or point fingers but here is a person on this thread who seems to think I have 900 numbers as my business, so what, I say --This is freedom of speech and if I can make money with my whiskey voice so be it, u jealous pole dancer that can no longer use the pole, oh did I give the name away? Well it's a car name, but u didn't hear it from me. Oh then to break his window wow u must have a hard head u were in danger really, I think I would have screamed. When I had my 1st boyfriend with a car we went to park in the make out place and I was so nervous and when he kissed me he put his tongue in my mouth I screamed and started crying that I was going to get pregnant. Well needless to say he broke up with me, but after my first divorce he knew where I lived and worked and every year for about 30 years he brought me a birthday present and said I never should have left you--so the jokes on him--well he died tho. Now that was a really stupid story and I told it anyway. See how I say nothing but manage to have a lot of words in there?

I started 3 more new meds today bringing it to over 15 and sas I agree to many things to take. I hope all of u who are having a hard time start having better times. And sleeping properly is always on the list so far.

My kids are taking Joey and his little GF to the scarecrow festival, don't these people watch the scary movies. They're nuts.

OK I'll be back later, it's nap time

The stupid phone calls were for research studies and political calls!

Had one scary call though yesterday. My mom and brother were out running errands and because of her various health issues that cause her to have balance issues, she had a really bad fall. Thank goodness my brother was with her and took her right to the hospital to be checked out. Turns out she had minor injuries but its still scary when you get that kind of news. She wasn't worried about her injuries but she was worried about my reaction to the news.

OMG you crack me up!  Were you talking about ME?  Couldn't be!  Ha, ha!  You were scared?  I remember when a guy told me to close my eyes.... and then he kissed me, and I really LIKED it!  I WAS scared though....  Just so many feelings going on....

Yes I DID break his window!  That was a night from hell...  I can remember it so well.... Actually HE broke his window with my HEAD!  That RB!   I'm surprised we MADE it to this nice old age.... Ha!

Wait!  Joey has a little girl-friend?  Are you counseling him on this?  Or maybe have him ask his Mom?  Or even KatieKat!
