Today is four years since my surgery! I'm taking that as my day to celebrate being four years cancer free lol.
For those of you who are just started on your treatment, it does get better, really! The first year was really, really hard for me. The second year was when things started to even out and I started to feel like "me" again.
Now, I'm enjoying life and (mostly) good health.Trish

Rozem is it warm/hot? If yes then definitely call tonight. Someone will be on call.

Trisha! Way to GO!!!! I love seeing all the anniversaries :-)
Robin, you are as cute as a button, as always. Hair looks good! And I'm glad you are doing well. I get my bone scan next Spring, so we will see. I started out just fine, but my major way of exercising as an adult has always been swimming...I hate milk...won't eat ice cream, too fattening...cheese-a-holic, ex-smoker, still a wino, so we'll see.

i don't know, Rozem, i hope its ok

Rozem, call if like Lago says, it is warm to the touch. They'll give you keflex or some sort of generic keflex, which should set you straight, especially if you do it early. Hugs!

"cheese-a-holic, ex-smoker, still a wino" Hmmm you sound like fun to me. I too am an ex-smoker. 9 years although at my worst I was about 1/2 a pack a day. I still drink wine on occasion but I was never a big drinker. I think I eat more cheese now. But a good healthy source of calcium is yogurt. My mom swears by TUMS but it really is best to get it through food.

Congrats Trish! NED anniversaries are happy news.
I'm trying to stay positive through all this, but it keeps getting harder and harder. As if recovering from surgery wasn't enough to deal with at the moment, tonight I ate spoiled cole slaw (which I just purchased at the deli) because my taste buds have yet to return to normal since chemo. Luckily the DH noticed, so I only ate one spoonful, but I could have easily eaten a bowlful because I can't tell the difference anymore. I feel like I've lost one of my body's defenses & I'm very venerable.

Do you have chills? Or an actual fever? If the skin is just warm but no fever you might be able to wait. If you feel funny at all go on in. Much love

Rozem there is no answering service! WTF is that all about? Call your primary care MD. They should have someone on-call if your PS doesn't.

lago - in Canada, you cant get a hold of anyone after hours, so friggen frustrating- the standard pre-recorded message is "for any emergencies go to your local emergency dept" This is where private heath care has us beat
I don't have a fever so I will go first thing in the AM - I knew something was up today because that side felt even more sore then surgery day. Emerg here is like 8-10 hours on a regular day - I bet you guys don't have such horrible waits
0 -
Yes we do have horrible waits in the emergency room but if you come in with a wound from a gun shot or bleeding from the head they will take you right away… back when I was 21 I fell off my bike and hit my head on a cement wall on the way down. First question, "Are you 18?" I had a new haircut and stitches within 30 minutes. Then waited 4 hours to get an x-ray. I'm sure it's even worse now.

Congratulations Trisha!
Rozem, hopefully you will be able to get it taken care of quickly and it is nothing serious.

YES we have those waits!! My 15 year old was showing signs of appendicitis 2 weeks ago - horrible pains on the lower right side, fever, chills etc. It went on all afternoon so I took her to the ER, where she was seen 8 hours later and scanned. They found the appendix was fine but she had a large ovarian cyst...in a 15 year old!

RozEm...thinking of you! I had several fatgrafts but dont recall anything raised and warm...Id call as soon as they open, or just show up at the office.

geewhiz back in 1984 I was in exruciating pain from my appendix. I was in grad school at the time. They kept me for observation for 6 hours (in the waiting room with all the other sick students). Then the sent me home. I still have my appendix but I did catch a cold being with all the sickos in the waiting room

yes that's pretty much the same here lago...you gotta be missing a limb and bleeding profusely to get seen. I agree way to many appts still - I wonder how I will fit this in if I find a regular 9-5 gig. I mean how much time can you take off?!
congrats trisha anne!!! great news
im off to the PS to check this out.....

good luck Rozem, hope its nothing...

Hoping it's nothing Rozem.
Trisha Ann yay!
Geewhiz. Damn hormones! Poor kid. Cyst are not fun. Hope this one goes away fast.
To all, Much love

Thanks Moon...I am hoping me griping about endocrine disruptors and BPA's and God knows what they put in that foul smelling Victoria Secret spray she sneaks and coats herself with...will eventually stop falling on deaf ears. Cysts at 15 is creepy.
Lago - I am surprised they didn't take the appendix out? I never realized what a big deal this could be until a friend got REALLY ill with it. Wowee.
Roz, keep thinking about you!
Just got back from my PS, wanting to FINALLY do nipples. But with my radiated skin, my PS wants me a MONTH on Brava, and also wants to graft a small piece of skin from my lower belly to make sure he can close the stitches well. AAARRGH!!!!

its infected...ugh
they started me on antibiotics, I cant believe all the major surgery ive had and this is what gets infected!
geewhiz - that is really young but cysts are hormone related so at 15 she is in the height of puberty hormones so maybe not so weird. About the nipples - you can do brava on a implanted breast? didn't know that
im done with surgeries for a very long time, I cant believe how crappy I still feel
0 -
Ugh Roz!!! Hopefully the antibiotics kick in fast. Eat lots of garlic too...nature's antibiotic.
0 -
Rozem glad you got in there. I had a feeling it might be an infection. Hopefully it was caught early and the antibiotics will do its job. I know after every surgery my PS made me go on antibiotics. It's a common problem but doesn't mean you will result in failure. Just take those meds.

Rozem glad you're on abx. Hope they work fast.
Much love to all

Stupid questions here-how do I list my treatment histories like others? I am 4 cycles in and will have surgery on 12/17, then radiation, Herceptin, and then hormonal therapy. Is there an advantage over having reconstruction at time of surgery versus waiting? Has anyone had any issues with their nails from Carboplatin, Taxotere, Perjeta, and Herceptin? My nails are turning colors and feel like they have been pinched. If so, does this go away at some point?
