Early morning group class today. I'm doing better at getting up early again and getting to the gym. I've been kind of beating myself up for missing 3 days out of the past 7 but then realized that means I worked out 4 days, which is better than 50%, which is way better than the 0% I was doing when plantar fasciitis was acting up. It's all a matter of perspective......

Happy Friday everyone - have a great weekend!

Glad to hear your FIL has stabilized some, Mary.  That's so hard when remote and tough around the holidays too.  And Claire, fabulous hope for your friend! May her treatment show success and be tolerable.

I really had to change my mindset to put exercise first on the list and not after work, family, extended family.  Reminding myself it is part of the prescription does help.

Since I reported in last time I walked 30 minutes one day at lunch.  There was that unpleasant brisk wind in my face and I too hate it,.  The whole time I wonder why I live in this climate, and also, why did I give away my treadmill when we moved? Last night I bowled for two hours at a holiday party and I even avoided pigging out. Contemplating some Christmas shopping this evening and might as well try to stay at that fat-burning pace.

SweetandSpecial - I like your new photo. When I was on here earlier this year it was a different one I think. It looks nice.

You are right, and I want to emphasize that to everyone. That even though you (or me, or anyone) might have missed a few days, remember it's still a change in lifestyle that you have committed to, and missing a few days is not the same as missing 3 months at a time or something. Then we would have to do an intervention with you. :) But even 4 days a week is excellent, it is better than 0. And think about it. 4 days is a lot! Tell any stranger you run into this weekend that you worked out 4 days this week, and their mouth will drop open. It's a lot of activity. Sometimes when I've waited so late into the day to exercise (such as right now it's 6PM and I haven't gone yet), rather than blow off exercising for the whole day, I will allow myself to at least do half a workout. This means I won't get 8-10 miles in, but at the same time, it "does mean" that I'm getting some exercise in, even if I only get 4-5 miles in tonight. I think we set our standards so high that when we don't reach them we feel like we didn't achieve enough, when really every little bit of exercise adds up at the end of the week, and what little or lot we did is a big accomplishment. We all get A's for effort.

Have to agree that ANY exercise is always better than none. Happy

Despite a sore throat, I went to the gym after work today for 20 minutes on the Elliptical plus 15 minutes on the bike.

Two days of jury duty. And to top it off, a nice fat car repair bill. There's always next week!

Claire, I know your friend is most grateful for a friend like you. I am sure it has given her some hope which will no doubt help her too!

NatsFan, that's terrific that your FIL is improving and your MIL is getting some much needed rest.

Love the thought of exercise due to a prescription. I think of it as all about my health as I'm sure that I would be in much worse shape (and probably about another 50 lbs overweight) if I did not move.

That being said, no exercise tonight due to our choir had the first of 2 nights Christmas concert. But we move while we sing and we are standing for almost 1-1/2 hours so that's exercise. Do have time tomorrow morning or afternoon so will get to the gym.

    Night my sculpted friends.

Odie, I bet you working out at the gym (even with your sore throat) probably did you some good, because maybe you were able to sweat out any bacteria/germs - so you might feel better even faster.

Checking in: Finally got my 7 miles in, went to the gym at 9:00 pm. I plan on taking tomorrow off because we are supposed to get some bad weather and I didn't want to be having to negotiate and argue with myself about going to the gym in the weather, so I decided to go ahead and make tomorrow my day off.

Have a very nice Saturday everyone!

Inspired, I agree with you and I hope I didn't come across as too hard-core. In fact, I traded in my swim yesterday (too cold for even FL) for a leisurely walk in the park with my husband. Walks with my husband are never very vigorous as he is quite the photographer and likes to stop every 30 seconds to take a new picture. Plus there was free hot cider and cookies and I'm sure that more than replaced any calories burned. But there was beautiful music, twinkling lights, lovely scenery and I got to spend quality time with my husband. It was good for the soul.

35 minute walk outside today and it was sort of warm for December so pretty pleasant. Then I did a little strolling downtown through the shops looking for some small presents for a couple of friends. Came home and cleaned house and I'm trying to get up the energy to put up the tree, which I still haven't done.

Olaf, so sorry about the car repair bill. Darn! Odie, hope you feel better. I have sneezed a few times this evening and I hope I'm not getting a cold, but it is that time of year!

Bad, those good for the soul leisurely walks are important too and probably just as good for you.

hey all, checking in for the week.  Been swamped at work but still managed Tues date night and walking indoor track Weds & Thurs.  Had supper with mom last night and she says "hi to the girls".  Got all my holiday shopping done including a nice variety of Wisconsin goodies to mail to out of state relatives.  Found a new source for chocolate cheese fudge OMG so good!

Made rum balls today.  Tomorrow it's snickerdoodles and spritz.  And hopefully a walk in the fresh air. ♥

Have been MIA as typing on the ipad for BCO lately is so tedious it takes forever and for me it’s late at night and I’m tired so this week I took a break.

Claire your friend is so lucky to have you in her corner.  Mary so sorry about your FIL I’m glad he’s in a good facility and you MIL is getting a some respite, being a caregiver is very tiring, and you know if you or M come out I’ll pick you up at the airport all you need to do is ask.  I finally bought myself a recliner but it may have been a big mistake as every time I get in it I go to sleep SillyHeartand Patoo after the trouble I had getting out of the one at your place I got myself an automatic one  Winking IBD the storm was hellacious, I’m not in a mudslide area but where my office is located all the streets flooded, the storm drains all backed up and we are close to the ocean so the water has nowhere to go then today was absolutely glorious so crisp and clean and all the mountains that surround the LA basin are covered in snow it’s gorgeous. Odie hope the sore throat doesn’t turn into something.  Patoo I’m sure the Christmas choir was beautiful.  Badger say "hey" to your Mom, I have done zero for Christmas as I have been busy at work, with all my what I call “once a year” clients sending out their business Christmas cards and 2015 calendars.

So my weeks check-in is Tuesday night Body Jam, Wednesday I had a 24 hour tummy bug, I was fine one minute and boom it hit instantly and was not pleasant Bawling Thursday night did Body Jam but low impact as I was still a little “off color” but after class we all went out for Thai food and that fixed me right up and then today did Body Combat.

Hi everyone. I have gotten to the gym each night this week and used a combination of treadmill, elliptical and arc trainer. After a week of no exercise, I joined the gym and it felt great to get back to it. I still dislike running on the treadmill. Yesterday, I got to run outside and it felt amazing! It was sunny and in the 30's. As long as the road conditions are good, I will try to do an outside run on the weekend.

I was feeling seriously under-exercised, so did 20 miles of cycling in the AM on top of the 5k run yesterday. I was slower than slow for the run, but that was fine as not everyone finished. It was a glorious day and wonderful to be out in the sunshine. Today promises to be equally glorious, and again, plan a long bicycle ride.

Then, off to an eggnog party where it was wonderful to see people from my old church who I hadn't seen in a while. Then home, and straight to bed as fortunately there was good food at the party. For some reason, I slept like a log.

I have not done much for Christmas....yet. Will get pudding things later today, and start steaming. I have to get a few nice things. Thinking warm gloves for my guy, ones nicer than he would buy himself. Bicycle shorts would be ideal, but the ones he has been talking about cost over $200!!!!! (I have to find/buy a pair of the same brand for myself.) And I will get the gloves at Nordstrom as he needs to be able to exchange them easily if I don't get the size right.

In the spirit of simplification, I am going to get my tree at the supermarket next door. They do have nice fir ones that come with the stand, and I can carry it home (does this count as exercise?). No lashing to the roof of my car, etc. Then, I do need some lights. First tree since my divorce since my old place was way too small. But I have a nice spot here. Just remembered where I can get lights!

Pushing my ride back to ~11 as tons of frost outside. And I don't think the roads are completely dry. So supermarket first...two trips as don't think I can carry anything else if I have a tree slung over my shoulder! So that will be the plan. Then I can have the remaining pannetone as a reward for all the effort. (This is a super-wonderful one, much better than the ones I am used to. We had it at the office and I ended up with the leftover part. YUM!)

Happy Sunday....and dreaming of those rum balls. Hmmmmm........there is something else I could make, but after I am done with the rest. - Claire

    Claire - so easy!

    Rum Balls

    1. Melt:   6 oz. chocolate bits

    2. Stir in:

    1/2 c. sugar

    1/3 c. white rum

     3 T. corn syrup

    3. Fold in:

2 c. crushed vanilla wafer cookies

    1 c. finely ground walnuts

    4. Shape into 1-inch balls.

Store in an air-tight container in the ‘fridge.

Best after a couple of days.

    Makes approx 4 dozen.

I usually double the recipe.  :-)

    Gosh, those sound delicious!

More time on the treadmill & 'Shrink Your Fat Zones' with Denise Austin. It warmed up enough to give us dense fog and freezing rain' a lovely combination. DH was out of town this weekend & is driving home in it right now. Not good!

I am going to put on a Christmas movie and start my cards. Wish me luck!

Lisa welcome to my world, I don't know what happened but it happened a few weeks ago, it's awful using the iPad to type but I know they're working on it, plus with the iPad they think they know what you want to say and self correct for you ughhhhhhhhh! Hope DH get through the drive safely Ruth.

Went to do my class this morning and the room was closed as they were using it for a wrestling competition so I did 20 minutes on the recumbent bike and then half an hour in the weight room.

Went to see The Imitation Game this afternoon. Highly recommend it, it was a fabulous movie.

Good job, Sweet! I walked 57 minutes and did four runs in that period. It's getting easier and I definitely see improvement but I'm no where close to a full time runner yet, nor two miles! We had a strange 49 degree day so I felt I had to get out and take advantage of it, plus I had a big carb filled breakfast so I really felt I had to get out and exercise.

My eating plan has not been followed very closely this last week and probably not going to get better. Now that Claire mentioned panettone, oh my it reminded me I have to get one for Christmas morning. I will not let the Christmas season go without having two things, panettone and swedish pepperkakor.

I also got my tree and decorations up. I simplified my decorating post cancer as I find a simple calm scene is what I really want. I definitely feel more peaceful with less stuff and clutter in general, even at Christmas.

    Night, all!

Checking in after a busy weekend. Luckily, I think InspiredbyDolce was right about exercising Friday with the sore throat. Woke up Saturday feeling normal which was a blessing since I had shopping plans with my sister and niece that day (which included lots of walking) and enjoyed a great extended family holiday gathering today. No exercise today as it was my rest day.

Hope all our CA sisters stay safe with the extreme weather and wish safe returns for Ruth's DH.

Settling down to write out my Christmas cards as well and am almost done with Christmas preparations. Edited to add that like Twohobbies, I am finding myself enjoying less stressful holidays post cancer.

    Sweet dreams all.

Odie: Glad to know your sore throat resolved on its own. Sounds like you had a fun weekend.

Ruth: Wish you and dh had visited NC this weekend. Temps in the 60s. Sun. Nice.

Cheryl and other CA ladies: The storm you had was Horrible! Thinking about all of you.

Hi All. Attended a really, really fun wedding last night and even danced some at the reception. Early this afternoon I fast walked/ran. We put up our tree today and I'm enjoying the scent and calmness it brings me.

I wish we were in North Carolina this week too! DH made it home in one piece & some friends and I, who were planning to drive over and visit a friend who moved 100 miles away tomorrow, are staying home....which is fine because I have enough to do around here.

Badger, say 'hi' to your mom from me. I forgot to add that before....too busy thinking about the rum balls!

Cheryl - glad you were OK - those storms looked rough. Wonder - sounds like a great time at the wedding! Badger - the rum balls sound yummy. And what Wisconsin treats are you sending out - Kringles? Summer sausage and cheese? Cheese curds? I know them all! HappyTwo & Odie - I hear you about less being more at Christmas after cancer. We used to go all out decorating the house inside and out. Now we put up a small tabletop tree with a few ornaments, and a Hummel creche set I inherited from my mom, and that's about it. And I'm fine with that. Hope to get the cards out this week . . .

Back from our weekend at the cabin. On Saturday we did a 16 mile bike ride along the C&O Canal tow path. We saw deer, beautiful bluebirds, and several pileated woodpeckers (the ones that look like Woody Woodpecker). It was a chilly day so we pretty much had the tow path to ourselves, so I think that's why we saw all the wildlife. Sunday we took a short hike with Mikey - due to his heart issues he can't take long hikes like he used to, so we did a short easy hike just to give him the opportunity to sniff around and enjoy all the wildlife scents along the trail. I had physical therapy this morning. Hope to get a walk in after work.

Hi all. Saturday, 1 hour at gym in pool, Sunday at gym 1 hour on bike, treadmill and weights. Tonight did 3 mile, 45 min walk with Leslie Sansone DVD.

Kindegarten, I have a link to the concert. PM your email if you want me to forward it to you. S&S, I also enjoy singing in the choir. So uplifting and everything around you becomes pretty minor. hbcheryl, knew you couldn't resist getting that recliner! Very easy to fall asleep the entire night because they are so comfortable. I know you didn't need the violent storms but you did need the water out there. badger, give your mom a big hug from me.

No decorating here since I'm alone and will be in Florida for Christmas.

    Night my sculpted friends.
