Good morning ya'll. OOhh all these salad recipes.. yummy. I will have to get busy. I went crazy yesterday and bought 5 packs of little pansies and petunias. Then another 4 bush roses... I can't help myself. Gardens and dirt and I go WEAK! I can lose myself in plants. No impulse control... so sad. I also bought a behemouth bag of epsom salts for the plants. Need to dose and feed with some ironite.
Picked up a lovely Costco cake for youngest DD for her 14th birthday tonight at the dorms. It's covered in purple and yellow roses school colors. They do a lovely job for 19.00. Can't beat it, boxed and wrapped in plastic even. We will take it over at 7 for kids to eat and enjoy after swimming.
Blondie you are not alone. I think about you every day. (((((hugs))))) Patty no more face plants right? Still on the mend? Pretty glass. Chevy love the bird nest on the bird house! Howdy to everyone I missed.

Mombie-Zombie, welcome ( in case I have not said that yet ). Tell us how you chose your user name. Did the big C turn you into a Zombie. It turned me into, well it's early, I do not curse before 5 ish.....he...he... Congrats on the Hawaii trip. No advice there, I went on a cheap trip it Waykakki in 1975. You are married to a Plant guy. Ah, so cool. I love planting & growing flowers. Not organized with it, but it is beautiful.

Mombie, Which island depends on what you're looking for. Kauai is quieter, more rural and laid back. Poipou beach is popular. Maui is popular because of endless sun and great beaches. Much more touristy, but more choices of restaurants, etc. Lahaina, the old whaling port, is worth a visit. The big island has the volcano on the east side, great beaches on the west side and a don't miss black sand beach with turtles in between. We were camping with DS and DIL, so don't know about hotels. We flew into Hilo, camped at volcanos park, and drove to Kona where we camped on the beach. You can rent campsites in Hawaii for up to 2 weeks per year for a nominal fee. Did you move east or west of the cascades when you moved to Washington?

Wow Wren, great info....I can camp !

Rosie, did you finish your daughter's desk? Is it gorgeous?? And I'm curious as to what your husband (and crew) found when they finally forced open the door of your cabin in the woods.
It's sort of cold again here and the storms knocked all the blossoms off my star magnolia. One down the street is more sheltered and held on to ALL of its petals. I'm pouting over that. On the other hand, this does seem much more apropos weather for St. Patrick's Day.

Happy St. Patty's Day from the land of hot air balloons!

Hi Jazzy, very cool! Happy St. Patrick's Day from Cleveland.

Wow, thanks to all who gave me cyber tips. I will spend my night hours trying them out and see if I can make it work for me. Yay! Thanks for all the great welcomes too! It's nice to belong.
I'm still learning and trying to keep everyone straight. Hope I didn't miss returning any comments, questions, etc.Jazzygirl--Thanks for the words about Hawaii. Those pics are amazing!! I'm so excited to get to go on this trip. I've been married for 22 years, in which time we've saved up to go to Hawaii THREE times. A family crisis came out of nowhere EVERY time and ate the money for the trips. So grateful we had that money for the problems, but we never got to go and just gave up. I can't believe we finally get to go! (LOL--I almost expect the news to report that Hawaii has sunk into the ocean!)
Holeinone--My user name is actually a nick name from my kids. LOL It has a two-fold meaning. Firstly, I am a life long insomniac. I have memories of watching my older sisters sleep while I played in my crib. And my kids have grown up saying "goodnight mom" at 5am as I'm saying "goodmorning child". Secondly, I often put my arms out and do a Frankenstien shambling walk as I come after my squealing, laughing kids--they know they will get caught, tickled and then hugged and kissed. One of the kids, my brainy one, said, "Mom, you look like a zombie!" I replied, "Nope, I'm The Mombie." It was a short step to becoming Mombie Zombie after that. Since this is a discussion board for insomniacs, I thought it only fitting to share my nick name here.
Glad to hear that you have a green thumb. Soon as spring is fully sprung around here, I will post some pictures of our place. Our yard isn't amazing yet, but we live next door to hubby's folks, who have been mowing and manicuring (for 45 years) 8 to 10 acres of gorgeous prairie land that runs along a lovely creek in our back yard. Their property is like a scenic park, complete with trails, covered eating areas, tree-swings, canoeing, gardens and giant oak trees. Hubby and I want to add to it all by building a "secret" garden for the future grandchildren to play in and a Japanese style garden and a native tree arboretum. Gives me things to look forward to. What kind of flowers do you like best in your garden?0 -
Cool Nick name!!!! Can't wait to see the pics, it's not hard to do.

MombieZombie- loved the story about your name. I think you are really due and overdue for that trip to Hawaii. I think it is going to happen and it is going to be SO good too! Glad you liked the pics.
Also, there is a gardening thread that is new and I just joined called "Gardening anyone?" Come over there too to share your green thumb stories (and anyone else too). We have been talking a little but since it's early in the season for many in the US at least, we are a slow thread right now. We have some folks there from the southern hemisphere though (which means their fall.....)

At dear brothers. He sang for st. Patty,s day at the local pub where he lives on the ocean. Great fun. Using an I pad for the first time.

Jazzygirl--Thanks and thanks. And thanks for the tip on the gardening group. I'll have to check it out tonight.
OK--I know this will confirm my cybertardness, but I have tried clicking on the icon to post a picture that is saved on my laptop. It's not working. Going to keep trying.
Wren44--Thanks for more info on Hawaii. You asked about my move. We only moved fifteen minutes from our old place, but we are west of the Cascades in a tiny town south of Olympia.

Mombie, Your botanist DH will be able to grow almost anything there. We have a fair size garden in our city lot.

Wren44--Yes, hubby is excited. Our old place was gorgeous, but we were just elevated enough to make certain things hard to grow because it was colder and we had a water shortage issue that was super annoying. Now we are down in a large area of prairie with lots of water. We've already put in a huge strawberry patch and a massive row of thornless raspberries. We plan to put in quite a variety of veggies and fruit trees. We've made our own year-supply of freezer jam every year for 22 years. I'm excited because we have the space to raise chickens, a beef cow and maybe a pig too. I am looking forward to lots of organic eating! Hubby is a botanist specializing in native plant life of the Northwest. He has a further specialization in prairie plant life. This property has a wonderful variety of native flowers--trilliums, chocolate lilies, shooting stars, balsa root, lupines, larkspurs....It's going to be fun.

Sounds fantastic, MZ!! Enjoy. Rosie and I are Northwesterners, also. I don't know how many others on this thread are?

Hopeful, I consider myself a Northwesterner, almost, wanabee....I am in S. Idaho. High desert, dry & windy. Cold winters, hot summers.

Cool, I love finding out that some of you are near my neck of the woods.
Hopeful--My hubby has a lot of family in your direction. S. Idaho has some beautiful country.
OK, this picture downloading thing is starting to really get my goat! I clicked on the picture thing. On my screen it gives me the option to drag a file or click on a thing that says "choose a file". I tried dragging. Didn't work. So I clicked on the "choose a file". It takes me to the photos on my laptop. I click the one I want. All that happens is the photo label shows up in the window, but no picture. I tried to copy paste too. I'm getting nowhere.

OOPS--I addressed my Idaho comment to Hopeful and it should have been to Holeinone. Sorry. I still claim chemo-brain.

Morning all.... Wait.... FIRST I have this..
http://sureawesomeness.com/he-tells-his-dog-he-got...
Okay Mombie, try doing all that, but then click "open" or try clicking on the picture twice.... What are you using? Maybe that makes a difference.... You CAN'T do this on your phone.... can you? It also depends on a hundred other things... Like I can't copy and paste diddly when I use aol, except links! I can post links, but NOT pictures... So I have to go to Chrome, then find a picture from Google Images.... then copy, and come back HERE to paste.
And I love you talking about your kids! You sound like a lot of fun...
I have gardens too, but nothing compared to yours! DD came over yesterday, helping me clean up all the Winter leftovers, and putting my "stuff" out, and she finally said.... "MOM!!! YOU HAVE TO GET RID OF SOME OF THIS CHIT!!" So I threw away some things I found, just to make her happy.
I DO have a lot of .... what is that name they call it when you have too many doo-dads in your garden? Something like "Chatskees" ??? Well, yes, I do that.....But I am trying to dwindle my chatskees down.Yes, I would like a "secret garden" to.... but I just make "little area's" in places, and try and make everything "go" together... Ha! This is a picture from last year, and as you can see, I DO have a lot of Chatskee's... I have posted this before, so the other gals, just close your eyes...
But I'm just going to grow tomatoes, etc. in our side garden, and keep this one just for flowers & the Perennials...
Do you guys watch Dancing with the Stars? It is a good show this season... Some of the celebrities are REALLY good....

Mombie & other interested Newbies.
Chevy has the most interesting garden. Places to sit, drink chocolate cokes, rest your weary bones. She is a women after my own heart, she borrows from the alley. People dump GOOD stuff in Chevys back 40, and off, she is high tailing out there to score more "stuff", "chatskees". Last spring picked up some "white rhino" buckets. They are connected to Colorados newest industry. Getting HI with a little help from my friends

Here is one of my "wild spaces". Glads starting to bloom. I have some glads next to the stucco already 6 inches tall.
Morning to all, you can't believe I am up this early, me neither. Shoulder hurts like a witch, got me out of bed.

for those back east where it's lunch time already!

Hey ladies some confusion about guns yesterday. Yes I am perfectly fine well. Getting there. Was just saying I was to weak to nap outside with the sun on my face to try and protect myself if necessary. Feel safer with a gun close by. For my protection only !

MZ, What browser are you using? I can't post using Safari but can with Firefox. Perhaps that's contributing. We are considering moving to the Olympia area because Seattle is getting unpleasantly crowded. We drive down to see our grands in Oregon and it takes forever to get past Olympia. Once we clear that, it's usually smooth sailing until we hit Portland at rush hour.

Hole - What a pretty garden bed! Did you have a short, dry winter this year, too? (Love the very efficient coffee & doughnut mug.)
Wrenn - yes, I knew there was someone else here from the region. And no, you don't EVER want to hit Portland at rush hour (nor Seattle)!

Holeinone- wow on the gardens. I hope you enjoy the gardening thread.

Holeinone. - love the garden pic

HiHo.... I LOVE your garden area! Where do you live.... Was that taken recently? I'm still just clearing things up, getting ready to plant around May 1st. Supposed to get more snow and cold next week.... The Perennials are coming up though.... but still haven't connected the hose to "clean" things up.
Peppermint.... good for you! So many scary things going around anymore. DD here has a gun.... and so does her gal-friend... I think they should, when out at night.... or are alone! .. Do you have to have a gun permit where you are, like they do here, if you carry it around?
I am scared to death of guns.... Loooooong story.... or two..... but anything to feel safe.

Same area today, previous photo last June....
I want to get out there & dig, transplant, & play in the dirt. I have done a little but my shoulder is not ready. Go to PT tomorrow. I have been doing the excercises but want to have a couple sessions with the expert
