Spookie, here's some reading for you LOL, HOMEWORK chickie---Key in on calcium & proteinhttp://blogs.creighton.edu/heaney/2014/07/25/the-paradox-of-osteoporosis-irreversibility-2/
MommieZ, Vita D deficiency is rampant all over. It's a big public health issue in Florida. Hey, we listened when we were told to use sunscreen , avoid UV rays, and avoid sun exposure between 10-5 pm. Now there are adds encouraging sun for 10-20 minutes a day without sun screen. Your comment about the umbrella and being wet was very funny.

Just have to tell you! Our Grand-son called!!!!!! He is doing GREAT! That's all that matters....... He is getting ready to go to Nashville with his Brother, for that business they are starting.... Said his Mom sometimes goes off the deep end with "things"..... but I'm just thankful I got to talk to him.... My heart is so happy!!!!!

Didn't even mention the "melt-down" going on at that time....Said he has the little "souveniers".... his kidney stones....

Chevyboy, I am so happy there is a happy end to a very bad beginning! I hope it all turns out great for them, they have safe travels, and the business is a success for them. Positive time spent, is a great investment in the future. I am so happy for you, and them!

Celebrating all around. DS just got notice today, that he won his first case that was appealed to the Federal Appellate District 11. Highly unusual a law firm would let a young one (30 y/o) do the brief.Chevy very nice story about your brother --some amazing things he has done

Spookie--You've kept your port? Thanks for telling me what your "Dumbo's lucky feather" is. Mine's the tree I guess. Anyone else have a "lucky feather"? My port causes me soooooo much pain. I hope I won't have to keep it beyond October. Do you still have to go get yours flushed every four weeks?
Mags--Funny--about your port. Sounds like you have a sweetie in that DH of yours.
If I ever have to get a port put back in, I'm going to ask to have it in my arm instead of my chest. I asked about it when they put in the first one. They lied to me and told me that didn't exist. I found out that my friend had hers in her arm one week later. She found a doc who does it that way.
This cancer stuff has really strengthened our marriage a hundred-fold. I guess there can be blessings in even the hardest of things. My DH tells me how beautiful I am, inside and out everyday. He says that cancer has made me even sweeter. And he tells people that the day he met me, he couldn't stand to look away because it hurt to look away. He also went around telling everyone my head felt like a baby ducky when my hair first started growing in from chemo. That part was a little less amusing. LOL
Chevy--I'm soooo glad you got a call from your Grandson! Yay! You sound like a super caring Grandma. My mom lives for moments with her grandkids. And my sisters tell me that being a grandma is among the greatest joys one can experience. I look forward to that.
OK, I'm only going to tell this here, because I think you'll have a good laugh, but I can't believe I'm going to admit this!! I think I am going to win the Stupid Rads Patient Award. Yesterday, I was having trouble keeping cream and a pad on a trouble spot. So I decided to tape it in place.....yep, you can see where this is going. Honestly, I don't know why I thought this was a good idea in hind sight. It was special tape (very light adhesive--more like a post-it) and my skin looked OK where I put the tape. I wanted so bad for the medicine to stay in place!! Well, the trouble spot benefited, but I ripped all my skin off in three places taking the tape off. I feel like a complete idiot!! OK, you can laugh now. LOL I'm laughing at myself...and crying...and laughing some more.

Yep, I go every 6 weeks for a port flush. Then every 3 months for blood draws they use the port. Blood for tumor marker monitoring.

Hello everybody
I'm still around, just lurking lately. Nothing much to add. Recovering after chemo (gemzar/carbo). The week of chemo I'm quite wiped out, like a bad flu. The second week I'm better, so I'm rushing to do all the work I haven't done the week before. And then it starts again

Patty- so sorry you're back in the hospital! Hope they sort it out this time.
Everybody- big hugs from California!

yea Chevy good news

Ibgal--I followed that same pattern with chemo. I was always a crazy woman, frantically playing catch-up on the good week before the next round. Do you have a lot of rounds to go?
Well, my daughter's youth group's fundraiser dinner was a big success tonight. And her performance of Chim Chim Cheree was adorable. I had my first boost session in rads. Four to go and then I'm done with that mess. I was doubly tired today. I'm glad for the weekend. We will be booking our flights for the trip to Hawaii tomorrow. One step closer to that trip becoming a reality.

Mombie, I did the same thing with the tape, with the same results! Have you checked out the winter rads thread?
Lots of good info there.

Mag--LOL, thanks for telling me that. I feel a little less dingy. I have lurked around the Winter Rads group, but I decided that since my rads didn't end until April 2 that I would tie into the spring one. There are a few women in the spring thread that finish the same day I do. Are you in the winter thread? Thanks for the tip. I have learned a lot from both threads, but I missed anything that said that tape would be a bad choice. If I had thought it through a little more I think I would have done differently. Oh well. A friend of mine gave me some Silverdene and it is really helping the torn areas.

Yes, I'm in the winter thread. CoyoteNV who (while not the original poster) has taken over the monitoring and kept a list of who is there with start dates and smiley faces when finished, was one of the ladies on the chemo thread I monitored (July chemo) and is a super lady, just an awesome encourager, on both threads. I hope you have an easier time than I. I'm down to a tiny scab now, almost 3 weeks after final boost.

Thanks. I have done fine with skin (until the tape incident, that is). My skin and surrounding muscles have been pretty painful. All of the physical things have been little bother to me because I am not a stranger to significant amounts of pain. Going through rads has however been the worst for me on an emotional level because it triggered PTSD connected to some things in my past. The gals in the spring thread have been very sweet to me. Two days ago they all helped talk me out of giving up. I had had the worst day yet. Sounds like your skin had a rough time. I saw one of my friend's wounds and they looked pretty scary. I'm glad you are healing though. I have a trip coming up, so I am really hoping I will be fully healed by then.

here's a current photo of Bradley

Patty, hope you're feeling better and get out soon.
MZ, yeah for trip to Hawaii. Which island?
Chevy, good news with the grandson.
Everybody else, have a good weekend.

Smaarty--ADORABLE!!! He looks perfectly designed for kisses and cuddles. We are going to Kauai.
0 -
you'll love Kauai, very laid back, not over developed like Maui and Oahu. Take plenty of sun screen
0 -
That's just why we picked that island. I will be done with rads on Thursday, but I still go in for regular rounds of Herceptin. Herceptin keeps me tired and in a lot of pain. We were hoping the quiet pace of Kauai would be good. We want to snorkle of course, and there's a boat tour we are hoping we can afford, and I am hoping we can do some nice day hiking on the days when my bones aren't hurting too much. I have better days than others. Yes, sunscreen! I bought a UV blocking swim top that covers up to my neck and is long sleeved. My RO told me to put sunscreen on underneath too. I get sun poisoning easily, so I'm going to be super careful.
Are there any must-see things on Kauai that you would care to suggest?

Wow, busy ladies! Trips to magical islands, tropical sun, adorable babies, and loving Grandsons. Busy week. I hope everyone has time to relax and repair a little this weekend.
MombieZombie, so sorry about the tape! Ouch! I had my ECHO the same day as my last rads and the tech stuck the patch right on the edge of my burns and ripped the skin off. Oh big mistake! But my MO gave me large pads and stretchy fishnet tubes to pull over the bandages and it felt great. I added ribbon straps over my shoulders to hold it all together and it looked like a little stretchy tube top. Helped so much. Made me laugh because it was like some weird medical costume in a very bad movie..............go figure. But no tape needed!
Mags, glad to hear that you are almost healed up! Soon rads will be a distant memory, not a good one just distant.
Patty Peppermint, I hope you are home, comfortable, and listening to all the chaos children will bring. I am sure you are enjoying it being home and back to being the ref! I hope you have some rocker time in the sunshine!
Have a great weekend!

Beachbum--Thanks for the commiseration. I am definitely finding new solutions to the problem. I'm allergic to something that is in those mesh tubes they give you--they make me itch like a dog with fleas!! But I have a cami with a "bra" in it that is very loose because I've lost a lot of weight. I've been wearing that to keep the pads in place. I'm still laughing at myself. I don't like admitting not having a brain, but I went ahead and shared my little story in my rads group too, in case another person is thinking to try that.

Hi Mombie - I will have to do the chemo for the rest of my life (I'm stage 4) so I'm trying to adapt to the one week good one week not so great lifestyle
I'm so happy for you going to Hawaii! We only went once in our honeymoon to Maui but I enjoyed it very much! Sorry about the tape. I had really bad burns during rads. I used Silvadene and large size non-stick pads (the size of paper towels) which I kept together with paper tape. The tape was attached only to intact skin (non rad).Chevy - great to hear your good news!
Patty - keep us updated on how you're doing.
Everybody - have a happy weekend!

Hi you guys! Mombie! I REMEMBER those mesh tubes! I had that MammoSite device for about 10 days, and that mesh tube thing helped hold all those tubes in place.... I am really allergic to tape also.....
Yes IBgal.... The "kid" is acting normal to me again.... Ha! He is such a little dickens..... Not really "little" or a "kid" but he will always be to me.... Ahhhh, so many sweet memories.....
And Damnit Sass! I'm SORRY I forgot to comment on your Son and his winning his first case with the Appellate Court! That is so cool! Congratulations, Mom! Thanks for calling me....! It was so fun talking to you.... we'll have to do it more.... When you said Sheilah, I thought WTH???? But right away, the brainiac that I am, I GOT it.... Ha!
Okay.... gotta go start something for dinner..... We bought the BEST "collossal" shrimp yesterday.... Usually get those midget ones, but these were the raw, big ones! I cooked a few.... and have lots left..... Think I'll just eat them with cock-tail sauce again.....

Chevy, you crazy gal, thanks Ds charged up. He has a second case next month, but it's state not federal. Cool. Shrimp I'm jealous, we had subway.

PattyPepper, in your pocket & we are moving home ! So sorry for this last bump in the road.
Sas, yes, congrats to your DS. My dad was a attorney. Very interesting profession. I would read his depositions when I was in middle school. Loved it !
I am headed to Calif. In the morning for a week. A group is going to golf, I will read & float in the pool. Not complaining, life is good.
Spookie, congrats on the good scans.
Need to pack......love to all.....

Good evening all!
JWoo--Funny. Did you catch up yet?

MombieZombie, would it be possible to over wrap the pads with a stretchy ACE bandage? No tape needed. They also have the stretch medical wrap. First time they used it on my arm, I kept thinking of the days when I had rolls of purple that I used for my horse, Vet Wrap. LOL
