Wren, yes indeed! Your co-worker has a special friend there!

I am planning to do something with my friend who finished chemo in May (she is still coming back from her fatigue and not ready yet.....) I did take her shopping a few weeks back and we had a good visit and did have a bite to eat after. She says she is not ready to celebrate quite yet. She is coming along though.

So Jazzy that mean you want to be here? Good. Your stories are life

BTW, don't think I told you about the two Jazz posters I have >They come from the Detoirt Museum of ART. My dad had an alcoholic customer that would sell works of art that were cast off after show. He sell them for a price of a drink. This fella ran the shows somhow and was reposible for the art work displayed.

First it is in monocratic browns and creams  It measures about24 inches by 18 inches.

    Miles, playing his trumpet,

    Satchmo, playing his coronet.

    Duke, with the piano,

    BIRD, playing his sax.

    TRANE, playing his tenor sax.

The words are "JAZZ THE TRADITION LIVES". The Font is Bauhaus.

Boy that took along time to name the instruments right. Couldn't get an instrument  wrong with you reading. :)

    Jazzy

The second poster has Satchmo with his coronet, I think. I have it packed away. The wording say " MONTREAX DETOIT JAZZ FESTIVAL" and the dates. It was the first, this one was not copied. They're many more from which copies were made. They missed this one in catlogueing.. It's a one of a kind. Royal Blue background with an orange symbol. Has a liitle sun damage. Son doesn't understand it's value. Size, 4 feet x 30 inches. Good size.

If you google the images it will show them in sequence  Low and behold I found it. Years ago wen I was trying to find it's hx, I was told they didn't have it

imageThe Detroit Jazz Festival is a major cultural institution, providing year-round concerts and educational programming that culminates in one of the world’s premier jazz festivals on Labor Day Weekend.

Now in its 34th year, the festival takes place over several city blocks in downtown Detroit – from Hart Plaza to Campus Martius – with five stages and 100 acts over four days. It also offers educational activities for adults and children, fireworks, late-night jam sessions, rare opportunities to meet the artists and much more. And it’s all FREE.

         Our mission is to:

Foster the history and nurture the development of jazz

Perpetuate Detroit’s significant jazz legacy through educational and collaborative opportunities accessible to all

Present a world-class signature event that makes Detroit a tourist destination

The Detroit International Jazz Festival was founded in 1980 by Robert McCabe and the Detroit Renaissance. Along with the Detroit Grand Prix and the International Freedom Festival, Jazz Fest was intended to bring people into the city and to provide all segments of the population with world-class entertainment. It quickly became a Labor Day Weekend tradition at Hart Plaza, a city park along the Detroit River designed by Isamu Noguchi and Shuji Sadao.

From 1980 to 1991, the festival flourished through a partnership with the highly regarded international jazz festival in Montreux, Switzerland, sharing performers and commissioned poster art. In 1991, the festival merged with Detroit’s Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts, where it resided until September 2005.

In March 2005, Detroit philanthropist and Mack Avenue Records Chairman Gretchen Valade emerged as a major sponsor of the festival. With additional support from the Knight Foundation, the festival expanded programmatically and physically. The new footprint, covering three blocks of Woodward Avenue north to the newly developed Campus Martius Park, provided two additional stages and more space for food vendors and other activities. The result was record-breaking attendance and revitalization of the festival.

The Detroit Jazz Festival is now managed and produced by the Detroit International Jazz Festival Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 2006. Through the generosity of Detroit philanthropist and Mack Avenue Records Chairman Gretchen Valade, the Foundation also established a $10 million endowment to support festival operations. The festival staff and advisory committee work throughout the year to raise the balance of operating costs through corporate partnerships, contributions, and earned-income opportunities.

I just came back from taking Flower for a walk. Someone decided to torch our welcome flag with big sunflowers. It melted and dropped burned flag on the rhodies on the front of our house. The flag pole of course was right next to the house and our daughters window. It could have set the house on fire. Why would anyone do this? We have lived here 15 years and with the exception of the highschool kids throwing bottles and trash in the yard never any issue.

Burning folks decorative house flags is so lame. I am taking this down to the police. Scared

Firemen out to file a report. Not much they can do without video or having caught who did this. They did say you dodged a bullet with the house flag being right under the eves and it all being wood, cedar... whew. ugh.. depressing to think about what might have happened. Interesting they asked if it was an American Flag.. no the flag said welcome with sunflowers. My poor rhodie got melted in parts..ouch. Maybe we should get video cameras. hm Anyone done that? How expensive is it?

Sassy- all that great jazz info! I have seen a lot of the folks on the Detroit line up through the years. We have a jazz festival coming up here to next month and into August. It is not like some of the others that are in one city and sometimes one venue (went to the Aspen Jazz Festival last summer that was over three days), but spread out between ABQ and Santa Fe through various venues. Some great headliners come every year including one NEA jazzmaster. Some of the events are free, others require tickets.

Thank you for all the great info you shared on the posters, jazz orgs, etc. I LOVE JAZZ!

I am taking a steel drum class right now with our NM Jazz Workshop. It is way fun and class #4 coming up in a few hours. We have about 12 people and a little "band" going and it sounded pretty good on Monday when we played. Good for the brain to learn a new instrument, very different from the others I play. I plan to buy my own tenor pan once I am done with the class. Ya mon!

I like Insomniacs thread. I plan to stay.....

Rosie, My neighbor has seven . He can run them from his cell phone and house computers and look at the view current or stored. Iff you want I could ask him to talk to you b/c anything he would tell me would go over my head----basically I'm not listening. He thinks I should get them. He did catch the A/C compress being stolen--across the street....-clip clip and out in 30 seconds. Police were quite impressed with his system. Wasn't listening when he taught cost either.

    Went swimming no mishap YAY.

Spookie... thanks.... I answered, and told you what I know.... Or used to know....Winking

Sorry Rosie.... That's just plain stupid.... I would be watching out my windows to see who walks by your house about that time, and then go out and scream at them! Even if it wasn't them, they would know not to do it!

We don't have anything outside of our gates.... Before we put a gate on our porch, someone came up and stole a huge Split-leaf Philodendrum I used to have! I walked the neighborhood, looking on everybody's porch! You just KNOW it's kids, looking to get into mischief......

But we have a front iron gate, and then the front porch gate.... You just can't trust anybody anymore.

Went to see my friend Carol.... she is just no better.... no improvement that I can see.... Her caretaker was there, then her fiance' comes at 11, and then her Son for the rest of the time... She still can't speak much, other than yes or no.... She seems to understand what we say, but can't find the words to respond.... But we make her laugh.... Not walking either.... I just don't think she will get much better.... Selling her big travel motor home.... Her Son is a gift from God for her.... such dedication.....

Going to see Theresa at the Wild West Assisted Living Center tomorrow..... They'll probably have a pat-down upon entering.... Sheesh!

    Jazzygirl,
Thanks for congratulating me. Yes, I think about recurrence. It's a little different now. Maybe less anxiety. I wonder about what will happen when I stop Arimidex. They have been imaging a tumor on my liver that can't be biopsied due to its location within the liver. Doc not sure if Arimidex has been keeping it from growing. So they will monitor it more regularly after August when my five years on Arimidex ends.

Whew! I survived today. Spookie had about 3" cut off, wasn't as traumatic as I feared. Uti is settling down, 2 one in 3 months!!

Then the grands came. A friend gave PaPa a LEGGO Ferris wheel kit. It's really for adults, #2 really loves Legos. They worked on it a few hours Sun came back today to finish. Of course they had to fight over the pieces. Makes me crazy. PaPa was mumbling. It's done. It moves too

Pawprint- I know they use the Arimidex to manage Stage IV and also keep reoccurrence risk down. I hope they will watch you closely after you go off the meds. Have they considered keeping you on longer? I know one of the MO's I talked to discussed maybe doing 10 years on it, but know it craps out the bones (I am doing Prolia shots to counter balance that). Wishing you good health now and always.

Dutch- that is so funny. I know we all worry about cancer taking us, but so many other things out there for us to worry about too.

It is hot here, going to hit 100 this weekend. Summer in the desert!

Sas-- that's too funny! I'm always finding my neighbor's chihuahua in the yard so it was payback. And it keeps my reflexes sharp because I have to outrun my crazy dogs to get to the little guy before he gets eaten. Glad the pain is getting better. And I'm sure I don't have to tell you to remember the RICES. My new rule is that I now take my phone with me where ever I go in case I have to call someone to come save me. Then there's the old proverb "Look before you leap" which I didn't follow and now make sure that I do.

Roses--I'm having one of those days, too. Put my uniform shirt on backwards and didn't notice until after I got to work, dribbled yogurt down my shirt and having vertigo from my Meniere's. Bummer about the flag. We're having issues with kids shooting off bottle rockets and catching stuff on fire.

dutchchris -- OMG is that me! Except it would probably be ice cream.

Jazzy--I have never had the urge to even check out that Stupid thread. Life is just too short to sweat the small s#!t and I have enough stress in my life without feeding into it.

Spookie--I'm dreading cutting my big dog's nails but they're like talons and it needs to get done. I haven't done it in a while because of my lumpectomy and now chemo because it's like a combination steer roping and alligator wrestling. He must have had a bad experience before I adopted him because he absolutely goes nuts and even wigs out when I trim the other dogs nails. I'm thinking I just need to take him to the vet and have them sedate him then trim them as short as possible.

Tangandchris--congrats on the anniversary. I can't wait until I get there but I have to get through 3 more rounds of TC first. #2 is tomorrow.

Vertigo has me feeling kinda funky today. I took a meclizine so I'm not dizzy, just feel like I'm off my game. Blood work came back and my neutrophils are off the chart high, probably because I've gone from sinus infection last month to bronchial infection this month. I don't think the SE's from my first round have been all that bad unless one counts the bronchitis as a side effect. I hate having to cross my legs every time I cough!

Paw, how did you find out about the tumor on your liver? I have been on Arimidex for about 14 months, hate it, but feel like I am doing what is needed. Do not feel confident about any of it, but it is what it is......

So I am learning the steel drums right now and playing in a little steel drum band with like 10 other people. Tonight we learned about this guy Andy Narell, who is the best steel drummer in the world, and her he is playing with the kids in the TX music college. I found this link that is just so good, and just had to share it with you. Something to aspire too! Ya mon!

    Steel drums are way fun!

sassy, I'm lurking. Always here and reading about everybody. Have been reading the stupid comments thread, I guess I've been lucky. Can't think of anyone who said anything to me. I've said a few of those things to myself but that doesn't count.

New baby is my sister's new GS, #7. That was her in the pic. He and his mom are doing good. Apparently with c-section her milk was slow to come in. But now they are good. My GD has her ultrasound tomorrow to find out if all is ok. It's not much of a secret now, but they'll make a big announcement tomorrow.

Hope everybody is doing good or better. Sass, stay off the dogs, same with Marla. Rose needs to stay away from spiders! Eck. Blondie, do you know when you're going to Fl yet? Hope PP is doing ok. Tang, happy anniversary. Mine was 2 years ago on May 31. Weird how time has flown! Lover, how's the family visit?

Missed some. Been busy with getting stuff ready for sewing retreat and dealing with my mom. She's not doing better with the swallowing problem so a swallow study will be done.

    Night all

Jazzy -- steel drums? Interesting. And your lessons just reminded me that my dad's cousin lives in Albuquerque. He's a classically trained guitarist that taught at Georgetown, played with the National Symphony Orchestra and also played jazz until he had a stroke a few years back. He retired to NM and he still occasionally teaches guitar.

Smaarty--I've been through that swallow study. The liquid barium swallow was a waste of time and the dynamic swallow study only proved that I had an issue swallowing solids. It was my allergist that suggested an elimination diet that started my PCP thinking celiac disease but that was the same day I went in for my lump. Meanwhile, I'm avoiding wheat and my swallowing has improved.

Spook... I don't know about the local food places... I haven't been up there in Years! I would as one of the shop-keepers what are the hot-spots in town...

Hi LilPaws! Sounds like generally speaking you are doing better? Hope that tumor just shrinks on it's own... Could it be something like a Carcinoid tumor?

LOVE that Dutchess! Hah! The best place to fall, if you have to do it, are out in the garden, or out in a snow bank... I've done them both... Just something soft to land on..

Not long after I fell and broke my femur, I fell OUT of the tub! Hah! I caught my bad foot on the hose going up to the shower head, and it held on, and I went down with a splat! DH came running in, because my hand hit the door, but I got up on my own... just a few cuts from the connections on the hose... It's just EASY to fall.... gotta pay more attention when taking those steps.

It got up to 100 on our back patio yesterday! Just have to stay in when it's that hot... Janie said it was hot AND humid there you Florida gals....

    But she loves it!

Morning Blondie... How are you doing?

Marla, it's always fun to read your posts... about your dog! Hah! Poor thing... Yeah, when their toe-nails grow so long, it makes their foot walk different.... Whenever I took Lacee for anything, I had them trim her nails.

Yes... HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TANG! I forgot to say that earlier....

Hey HiHo! You know, I think everybody is different, when taking any of those drugs.... When I took Tamoxifen, I did FINE, until I lost my hearing. And our "stages" are different, along with everything else... Even the node involvement... Our whole genetic make-up is different, and even our Doctors.... Just research everything you can find, and then you can maybe compare your symptoms on a certain drug, but I figure I will TRY something, see how it goes, and if it don't work out, I can try something else.... or not....image

Jazzy, we saw a guy playing a "steel drum" or "pan" when we were by the beach near Singer Island... I LOVE that sound... Sort of like a Marimba, and xylophone combined... I had never seen this before... but it has a beautiful sound....

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woBZME7sN3E

Smarty, the stupidest thing anyone said to me was right after I told her I was taking "Tamoxifen" so my chances would be better for not getting cancer again....

SHE said... "So does that mean you will be growing hair on your face?"

That brainless friend thought Tamoxifen was Testosterone.... I mean she is older than ME! And she said something that stupid!

The hair on my face is none of her business anyway..........

Okay.... I'm going outdoors... to enjoy the dawn, and water my flowers!

glad to see the snow melted so you can HAVE flowers. Too hot here now for them.

When I had to be at work at 0 dark hundred hours, I knew it was going to be a bad day if I was wearing my coffee.

Our groomer uses a Dremmel on the dogs nails. She can get them pretty short. Try the vet, they have experience with that.
