No Sass.... The whole story was presented beautifully.... Some very disturbing scenes, yes... but it showed what happens as that disease progresses.... But it also showed the love and compassion that family, and circle of friends has for that man! It showed the emotions they all went through... not only the things Glen was going through...
It took a LOT of courage to present that story! No commercial breaks, just the story of a great entertainer who started losing his ability, and his thoughts.
And it began showing how vital, and how he was a great Father.... How he loves his wife.... (the present one) And how his younger kids are entertainers just like him, and trying to help him through this awful night-mare he is caught up in. Most of that 1 hour 45 minute show was about his last tour, with his family, and band members.... All the concerts, and the love his fans showed for him! How he could still sing and entertain, going through the beginning of Alzhiemers....
He is now unable to speak, or recognize his family.... SOME of the family do not see him as much.... as it should be, when they have not been in your life up until something happens.
But the scene with him licking his plate, also showed how happy he was, just doing what he thought was okay! Even though we would find it disgusting. Mental illness doesn't have boundaries... I watched my Grandma go through Dementia... Putting on 2 dresses.... calling me 5 times in a row.... and that is when it first STARTed!

My car is okay now! The check engine light came on, but it now out.... Oil is clean, and DH added a little more. The light was on because of the oil that did spray under the hood....
Loverly, that picture is funny.... but if you look at it, that little woman has her toe-nails polished, and pretty little shoes, that don't exactly fit... Ha! Crocs would have been better, but those are not exactly "stylin"...!
Marla, my folks lived in Richmond Ca... On a hill, and they always got the breeze from the Golden Gate Bridge blowing across the Bay.... I LOVED the climate where they were! Never got too hot.... always cool, but being from Colorado, it was great!
Meeting my Rosie tomorrow morning for her biopsy.... I know she is afraid.... but maybe it will turn out just FINE!

Rosie- keep us posted. You mentioned some very serious things that could be related to the swelling. Sounds like a lot of ovarian and BC together in the family. I hope you get some answers from your tests soon.

Jazzy- we have lousy genetics. I got BRCA tested and came out negative but there are quite a few cases of BC and Prostate CA, and just one ovarian CA after BC 20 years earlier. My Mom even had a huge ovarian mass removed benign- lucky duck! Obviously science has not unraveled all the markers for cancer. So there is some weakness or switch that can get turned on buried in our genes. I feel sorry for all my cousins. My one cousin the same age (56) as me has already been in for surgery with some form of colon cancer. Then I had a melanoma taken off as did my Mom. GF died of Non-hodgkins lymphoma at 51 years old. My grandfathers brother had some form of chronic leukemia. The list just goes on and on..
Chevy- I am sure you will be source of comfort and strength to your dear friend Rosie! May all her biopsy results be benign and this a speed bump on the road. Take care of each other tomorrow.

Rose- there are a whole suite of new cancer gene markers. I have had several round of genetics tests, because I had bilateral and they think that is often genetic. We have little cancer in our family, just one uncle with prostate but then my sister and I both got diagnosed with bc within months of each other. I think my BS was pushing for the tests because she does teaching and research and wants the data for her own reasons. Everything has come negative. It is VERY hard to get these tests paid for. Multiple appeals and some denials. I never had to pay a dime.
Also, some of the newer markers tie bc, prostate, pancreatic, colon and melanoma risks together. I mention that because you mentioned the melanoma. I have had the bc, plus a basal cell removed last summer.
One of my friends whose partner just had bc treatment has a lot of cancer in her family, and had what I think were the same latest generation of tests and she had some results suggesting a genetic history.
Just thought I would share this since I have gone down the genetic road a bit.......

Rosevalley - sorry you are so uncomfortable. Glad to hear there is relief on the horizon. My family also had lousy genetics. Cancer has killed every member of my family as far back as I remember. No car wrecks , heart attack , old age etc nope cancer. So very glad we adopted our boys and they didn't get my genes.

Luvmygoats & sppokie. - yum plum jelly - that takes me back to my childhood. Yummy indeed. We had several huge gardens. A lot of work and then it harvest time which is even more work to can and freeze them. Its def cheaper to buy them at Walmart but not near as yummy. Good for you !

Darn my boys will actually be home tomorrow. Meme had a change of plans. Ugh ! Well I can make it one more day. Yesterday our ac went off and of course the ac guy couldn't get to us the same day , it was already like 3pm. Ac guy gave Dh soine stuff to check. My most talented Dh came home and messed with it and got it running but we couldnt get the part last night. So once it shut off again it wasn't going to start without the new part. The house was 86°. We hug in the poollast night til our skin was so wrinkling we looked like raisins. Lol told my dh probably the only chance to see me looking okd and wrinkly. Hes finally able to laugh a LITTLE with me about death. We put the thermostat on 60° and onceut shut off it stayed cool in the house. I nearly froze with 2 blankets on. My backs stiff this am. It always hurts when i get really cold. Dh already got the part today and put it on. Dh can fix nearly everything. Feeling lucky to have him.

Jazzy- insurance paid for BRCA but nothing has been offered past that. I would gladly play guinea pig to find the weak links and perhaps help my own biological daughter or my cousins. (My Mom's sister has BC and she has 2 daughters). My Grandmom had IBC. I knew that prostate and BC were on the same gene, but no idea colon or melanoma were in any way related. I'll ask again for my daughter's sake. Thanks for the heads up.
I just got a call, paracentesis tomorrow 8:45.. another day walking around with my "baby"...at 56. sigh.. I weighed myself and expected the wt to increase, nope lost 2.5 pounds.. sure isn't around my liver so tight. My girth increases and my weight goes down. All of this is not good. It's a great appetite buster... no room, full in an instant.
I am so thrilled with the Court decisions this week! I know don't talk politics, but health insurance stays and finally marriage is equally applied. I wonder if those opposed were told "ok we can't discriminate so no one can get married, no more benefits and goodies.. no one gets it." That would have been equally "fair." There would have been an uproar. I wish those getting government health insurance through medicare -which amounts to single payer system, would either not get it or they open it up to everyone who needs it. It's age discrimination. Heck most seniors I know are WAY better off then their kids who scramble to pay health premiums. The attitude of "I paid and You owe me.." isn't really true. We all pay for the generation ahead of us. My parents took out way more then they put in, of that I am SURE! Eventually we will go the way of the rest of the world and have universal health coverage. Most countries have it and it makes our products less competitive since health insurance must be factored into the price of goods and services in the US. It will happen, it makes economic sense. If you want more bells and whistles then pay for riders to up the coverage. I bet drug prices would drop too! No one get feathers ruffled since this is just my little old opinion.

Aw Rose, I am frustrated for you and really soory you have to wait another day with pain and discomfort. No hope for a cancellation today? I do think that some health care providers need to go through a course of pain/suffering themselves so that they can empathize and show compassion. Sigh

I hear you! My results are in too and no one has called me. Why can't I just get a copy and read it myself? Waiting 5 days with this misery..I hardly listen as it is.. and always want to read it myself. I like to look at the images too. Pictures tell all.. especially if you can ask while the images are up. DH wil have to work at home tomorrow with DD to get her where she needs to go. Hopefully they can get something off and relieve pressure. The news won't be good.
I love the owl! Haha I have upset a few folks on the boards with my opinions. so I alway state them as just that - "my opinion!" No biggie.. no threat, no law or intimidation.. just a stinking opinion...one among billions. People should chill. I kind of like hearing what others have to say makes the world interesting and it explains folks' behavior.

for some improvement with QOL. Men's needs are so different from ours (shh...unless you are Ms Sass). They will do anything to make us happy once their needs are met. I need to get away from the checklist mentality myself and just enjoy the gift given to me.Ms Chevy, hoping for benign result for Rosie.

So I went out to my yard this morning and saw an army of ants busy working going somewhere. Then, I remember part of what Wren said about spraying salt water to keep them away. I gleefully ran back inside the house and prepared the "natural pesticides" ,so I thought. As I was preparing the concoction , I was thinking to myself " you guys are going to GET it" haha evil laugh. Ran back outside and started spraying AT them disrupting their perfect order of a line. WAIT???....how come they are running all over the place and none die?? Oh crap they all are heading towards MY HOUSE!!! Then, I remember the important piece--the solution is to help KEEP them away. Double crap!! I quickly sprayed the surrounding stucco and stamping at the ants at the same time. Hope none of my neighbors saw me. Genius I am. Mild ADD

And even better..... NBC cancelled his shows because of his racist remarks! This is as bizarre as the whole Kardashian family circus! It's like a 3-ring circus out there on the news! Or I mean the celebrities, who have no talent, other than filming their entire lives, and making mega-bucks DOING it!
Makes me think all the rest of us are "NORMAL...." !!!!!

Healing thoughts for you Rose. As for the SCOTUS decision on gay marriage, I think it had more to do with the 14th Amendment:
"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."
As for genetics testing, Kaiser jumped on me to have it done given my family history. I had a consult with my BS, the Breast Care Coordinator and the genetic counselor set up for me before my doctor even called me with my biopsy results. My mother lost 5 or her 7 siblings to cancer. One aunt died at 49 of lung cancer w/ spine mets. Second had BC at 45 (same age as me) with a double mastectomy and developed pancreatic cancer 10 years later. Her MO said at the time that it was most likely that she was a heavy drinker and smoker but with recent research, I think it may have been mets BC. One uncle died of colon cancer at 61, another of complications from stomach cancer at 64. The first aunt smoked until 39 then quit. All the others were very heavy smokers and drinkers. Another aunt died of liver cancer at 79 but she had Hep C from a blood transfusion in the 80's and liver cancer is pretty typical and she didn't drink or smoke. I also had a great aunt that died in 1948 at age 37 from breast cancer. My mom had basal cell carcinoma 10 years ago. On my dad's side, dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer at 65 and with chronic lymphocytic leukemia at 72 (he's 77 now) and his brother was diagnosed with kidney cancer at 72 that he chose not to fight and passed last year at age 80 from kidney failure. Four of my dad's aunts and uncles also died of various cancers. My genetic testing was negative but science has only discovered around 20 genes so far with mutations. Kaiser will keep my DNA on file forever, even if I don't have them as an insurance any more, and they will notify me if new gene mutations are discovered. Personally, I think that in some cases in my family, it may come down to a gene switch where certain environmental factors or personal habits have activated a genetic mutation but research into gene switches is relatively new.
Chevy--when my hair started falling out a few weeks ago, I still had enough hair swirl it around and cover the bald spots ala The Donald but I chose to shave it rather than resemble him. I think his issue is that he has so much money, he thinks he can be an ass.

Results as expected- large amount of free fluid in pelvis. Ascites, nodularity along omentum, may represent omental caking and carcinomatosis correlate with clinical findings. (ie; Paracentesis tomorrow and ultrasound and sending the fluid off to pathology... end results malignant ascites. Lobular cancer is known to metastasize to the gut.)
Couple of tiny 2mm and 3.4 nodules right lung. Some indeterminant 12mm hypodensity thing in the dome of the liver, could be a mets.. not sure. Extensive blastic skeletal metastases sternum, spine etc.. no news there. MRI- no intercranial mets, multiple calvarial mets.. yay Head aches who knows what is causing those since skull mets shouldn't cause head aches.
So the news is sucky. I have moved out of bone mets land to icky territory. The whole omentum thing is palliative. repeated taps and I guess surgery but it doesn't sound very promising and might bring more trouble then it's worth. Sigh.. I hope for multiple liters of fluid off tomorrow!

she will be 10 in August. Going to miss her birthday. Can't wait until we leave for Ireland,their high for summer is 75-80. Sorry to Rose and Marlana, hope you have some better days soon. Patty, yeah the kids will be home.
Too hot to cook anything, we'll have salad for dinner, and ice cream. News just said its 107. AC has been running all day. Hope we don't have any rolling blackouts. Sure glad we put solar in. The electric bills were killing us on summer days.
Sassy, hope your pup is ok. Thought I was going to have to put Tinker down a couple of weeks ago. He had the bladder stones this past January. Vet said he didn't have any now, gave me pills to give him 3 times a day. Haha. I'm lucky if I get one down him. He's avoiding me touching him right now, so good luck with that!
