Last night we had to watch the current Diggers on National Geographic. Looking for the outlines of the original McCoy cabin. DH's GM married a Hatfield and boy did my MIL have a temper when she tried. I think the story was she threw a hatchet at her brothers one time. Think Wren and I have talked about this b4. His GM lived up a stream only way to get there. Louisa KY or there abouts. Anyway they found an old canning jar lid on the show. Of course the hosts said "moonshine". I said heck no, how about green beans to see family thru the WV winter.

Think I shall pass on the Vegemite but I do see the soup/stew flavoring end of it. Don't think I could acquire a taste for it on toast by it's description.

Those of you who have been to a luau - my mother described poi as being "cream of old shoesole" taste. I understand the sustaining properties of it but Yuck.

Found some loose Assam tea. Hope tea never gets old. Pretty good. I need something to kick start me this afternoon. Went out in the less searing 101 degrees, heat index variously 104-111 for a pedicure and groceries. Right back in to the AC.

Missed commenting on the threesome pics from Florida. Y'all look like a good time was had. Very nice wedding pics Loverly.

For us Texans - Blue Bell trucks are back on the road.

Sleep attack sounds lovely. Might happen shortly but washer/dryer on now making lots of racket.

YAY for Blue Bell. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I thought it was mighty suspicious that same bacteria showed up states apart. In two factories that had divergent function. One commercial and one institutional.

What was the take on your end?

Loverly, Haha. My new paleo drink? That's where the search lead too. So, don't want to go there. I had toast in defiance.

    Zells, recovered yet?

Gypsy and Boyd? Coming or going?

Rosie, saw you, hope it's a decent day. The Rhodedendrons and rose  on Fuzzies were for you :)

Luvmygoats- I was a fan of Bluebell when I lived in TX and we get the containers here in the store in NM. Glad to hear they did not go down like some due with the food issues. We had the peanut butter plant here in southern NM that had the salamonella problem a few years back and it put them out of business. Really hard when that happens to the smaller rural communities, no jobs there when people loose them.

Oh Dear I forgot 2TA. The biggest Yay for a new job. Way to go sister.

Eeyore - come out and play with us.

Not much take on the Blue Bell issue. I know the local grocery is going to have to make some major ice cream moves to get it back in the cooler. Betcha we get local brand on sale this week. Local Brookshires east TX co. says they own their own herds and I must say the ice cream is excellent though not the tremendous selection of BB. The biggest TV station in the metroplex has a "tweet the truck" going on for spotting any delivery trucks.

2nd time- tell us about your job once you are settled. I know you were looking for awhile, and so glad you found something. I hope it helps you and your family. Hugs on the eldercare and other ongoing issues too.

sas, nothing fell out....but the horizontal trampoline for my cervix has gone vertical. So instead of being held up, it's being held to the left. Go figure.....haveto go back in to doc. Maybe I am inept at insertion.....no comments please...lol

Bike ride was great....maybe I will get a pic of me holding my bike over my head. That's what riders do after their long rides....I was by myself today, so all I heard were my tires on the pavement whizzing by. So peaceful .

    Smarrty, have fun girl !!!!!!!!!

    Happy evening to all

Chevy yoohooo, what do you think Susan gives us a great lead in line ...better than Abbott and we are Not suppose to go with it?

Naw, no pass, funny Susan. Usually the line hang left or right goes to the guys. Is it your bones that are getting density measured?

Lilgoats, happy Blue Bell is back in business. They have the best. Better than Ben & Jerry's. One time at Cracker Barrell's, I calorie splurged and had a scoop of ice cream. Asked what it was, gal says it's specially made for Cb. I said I would swear it was BB. She checked again and it was. Same at the fancy restaurant in Titusville(one in town). Then it became a game. Always was BB.

Haha is now the new thing. LOL is passe. I will pretend to be whatever.

Speaking of passe which is kinda French. What happened to TresJ. Loverly, will you PM her and say the equivalent of What up? She drops in and does this French thing, get's us all excited, then disappears.

Had to go to grocery, can do without for along time, except when the dog food bin is empty. They don't get that. Started taking them to the horse farm to run again. Stopped b/c of the new car. I missed it too. It's so great to see them run free. It's a back road. Canal on one side, a fence on the other. Horses now gone, must mean the land sold. Bummer. Dini still is worried while running. Always looking back. Schatzi runs and pees and sniffs. Oblivious, but knows her boundaries. Dini does too, but running free and sniffing and peeing was not in his previous world. For the newbies. I let the dogs run and I ride in the car. They respond to a honk and then I tell them what I want. Cool. Put them on a leash and nada, they don't get the heel thing. Yet off leash all I have to do is snap my fingers or make a command and they do whatever I want.

So need to go work on housekeeping threads. The weight thread has lead to knowing that Insulin resistance & glucose metabolism problems are related to an imbalance of the microbiome (bugs/bacteria). They need care and feeding. We live so they can survive. That lead to the Paleo diet. First thing after reading about the paleo diet, I checked out what I could drink. Not beer, red wine versus white. Liquor is better, but not all. First attempt was with Loverly. She was ewhhhhhhhhhhh about it.

ANYONE thinking about any surgery seriously has to read the Toradol thread. Could save your life.

Sas and Jazzy -- I will research later tonight when I have some downtime.

Sas--Amazon delivers dog food. Free shipping over $35 or if you have prime.

Jacfin -- sad about the alcohol issues with the aborigines but at least their women are stepping up.

Goats--I haven't tried poi since I was very little and I remember likening it to the paste we used in school but slightly sweeter. And yes, I ate paste and mucilage. It explains a lot.

Smarty have fun but, uh.....if you get on your plane at 8 PM Pennsylvania time and find yourself not tired at all, it's because it's 5 PM here in California. =)

Susan--glad that everything stayed in place. Chevy's mushrooms might help if things start falling out again.

Frey--serious look for a trip to Wally World. Robbie's Marina looks beautiful.

Hi goats, it's too hot outside. I am afraid if I get outside and play, the heat in the Republic will burn out the black cloud above my head. You know how valuable it is to have a piece of shade in the Republic of Texas, especially in the summer! Can't wait to have Blue Bell back.

Hey Eeyore. I hear Blue Bell is going to make vanilla and dutch chocolate ice creams for a start.

What is "Dutch" chocolate? Have seen it in milk, and recipies, can't find in stores.

  • Loveroflife
    Loveroflife Posts: 4,243

Dutch chocolate originated from the Netherlands. Cocoa treated with alkalinizing agents to make it less acidic. It has milder taste and has less antioxidants than natural cocoa. I got mine at Sprouts or Trader Joe's in the baking section

Droste is one. I did not know that Hershey's Special Dark was dutch process. I have a box of Van Cortlandt Cocoa for Baking and Drinking. I think I got it when I was going to make hot chocolate chai Christmas b4 last. Believe it came from local grocery, maybe from World Market. Don't think I paid a whole lot for it.

There is Dutch chocolates, the eating kind but I think from reading the Turkey Hill label online it is the powdered stuff they use "cocoa processed with alkali". Very funny - when I googled "dutch chocolate ice cream" Blue Bell came up 1st. Maybe I need to try some. I go for the natural vanilla's or the low fat. We've tried a bunch of the seasonal ones, the coconut fudge was wonderful.

Thank God for washer and dryer. Busy day today-doing laundry, doctor appointment, grocery shopping, and visiting Mum. She is still not feeling well. Black clouds over her currently with insomnia, headache, and body aches. She didn't make it to my sister's wedding:( Goes through this every few weeks. I am so mad at times, but don't really know who I am mad at. It seems to me like I am mad at her for not listening to me, but how can you be mad at someone who doesn't know any better? I think I let myself get upset maybe because I really don't know how to "fix" her( yes, Ms. CHEVY, I like to fix people too). When you love someone, you just want to see them happy. When they hurt, you hurt too SIGH

I finally have time to sit down and have my cup of tea (just green, no other fancy stuffs in it). Kids are starting school this Thursday. DH1 will be a senior and DH2 a 7th grader. Trying to make carpool arrangement is a challenge as they both go to different schools not walking distance from where we live.

"I can't wait to ride my bike tomorrow and fly like the wind. Makes me think there are no problems for the moment. Great feeling." Susan, I know exactly what you meant. We arrived back from Florida at 1:30pm yesterday. Although I was exhausted from our trip, I went to play 2 hours of badminton (after an hour nap). The endorphins released during exercise really help us forget our troubles/challenges momentarily.
