  • Agh, Ms. Spookie!

Pretty creature. Camouflage in with the orchid leaves perfectly. When does your orchid bloom? I have had mine for six or seven years and it has not bloomed for me. Most of my indoors orchids give me a show every spring.

Susan, that is a labor of love! I understand now why you continue to knit even with the pain/discomfort from the lymphedema.

There is a thread for our Dear Patty.

loveroflife, orchid question. Friend bought me one laMarch. Glad to stay still alive and has two blooms on it. What do I do with it when it goes "dormant " ? Thanks

  • Susan, I have mostly phalaenopsis because they are a bit easier to care for compared to the other orchids. I have two other kinds I can't seem to get them to flower. To get the phalaenopsis to bloom again--after the flowers fall off, if the stem is still green you can trim it back to the nearest node from where the flowers were. I usually keep mine near the window sill because in order for them to bloom again they need to be in a bright area ( but away from direct sunlight). As far as watering, I water mine about once or twice a month in the winter when they are dormant and more when they are growing. Becareful not to overwater as the roots don't like to sit in standing water for long. They do like humidity though. I put pebbles on the water collecting dish and set the pot on top to create humidity. Here is a link that might help:

Good luck!! It's a wonderful feeling when you get it to bloom

Catch of the day from the farmers market. Produce and a bouquet of cosmos!

    image

  • Chevster, I think that's a katydid. It won't eat your plant, but it will eat whatever "bugs" it.
  • Love cosmos!! Love the vibrant colors. I still remember them from when I was maybe 7 or 8. I would take the petals, wet them, and then place them on my finger nails and pretend that I had long painted nails. Jazzy, are those Italian green beans?

Smarty- well, for lunch, I put some tuna on fresh greens and with small tasty cherry tomatoes. I am trying to decide about dinner but do plan to make the corn tonight. I will use the left over corn for a corn salad (yum).

    Y'all come on over!

  • whats in your corn salad?

  • Call me anything but late for dinner!!

  • Z, I do a corn salad with thawed corn, about equal parts olive oil, white wine vinegar, salt, pepper, chives if I have. Don't cook corn.

Jazzy - I know praying mantises are good bugs but those things scare the daylights out of me. They have huge wings and fly with no warning. I have a few on the back porch at night - we keep the light on - but not as many as I had last year. Have seen a couple of different kinds.

Smaarty - lovely quilt starting there.

Well - DD got off to Boston on Friday. I came home exhausted from driving around for 2 days. Dallas traffic is horrible even though I pretty much knew exactly where I was and how to get where I wanted to be. We lived there years ago. At least when I pick her up on Saturday it's only a day trip, arrives back very late afternoon. May put me driving home after dark which this old lady doesn't see so well in. North Ft Worth has a new tollroad with a 75 mph speed limit and very little traffic. Worth every penny of the toll for me.

I make a corn salad with canned corn, diced tomatoes, green onion, cucumber. Dressing sour cream, mayo, salt, dry mustard and vinegar.

    Worried about Patti

Hey Blondie. Did you check the thread for Patty? Message that she is a bit better but still very tired. I'm worried too.

    https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/8/topic/8...

How are you doing? Anything new on the Meals on Wheels or home health aide? Is hospice providing you with an aide? I know I'm playing 20 questions. This may be what we in Texas call CBA worker (community based assistance). I know in TX pt could not have a CBA worker and a hospice aide. One or the other. Now Meals on Wheels I think that is totally income based, right? April you applied. Geesh. We need to get you a cattle prod for them.

Zills- I make it a couple ways but tomorrow will be adding some pre-made pico de gallo (onions, tomato, and cilantro) to the corn from the four left over ears. Chives is a great way to go if you don't have cilantro. Little balsamic vinegar for taste.

Dinner was some sliced turkey breast from the deli and 2 years of fresh corn on the cob. YUM!

Blondie- how are you this evening? The gals here have been sharing updates on Patty from other threads. She has had a rough time. We have not seen her back here yet. Hoping you had a good weekend with family?

Spookie, sorry missed your question. " you've been here, where can I leave a tree all year?". Corner of the dining room if it's thin. I suppose if it comes widd you could trim it to the size you want with a tin snips. I totally love my tree up all year.

    Google morning all,

    I made it !

Zills, your suggestion was helpful for me & a young friend. We were sandwiched together on the flight in. Impossible to do the foot part of it as we are both redicously tall with big feet. I was able to use that technique on the flight out the next morning. The wedding was special. Not a dry eye in the house. ( meaning campsite ). There is a 3 minute Utube video of flying in, that I tried to copy the URL....,ok, whatever its called. I am challenged with all the tech stuff, & I am on a IPAD.

We SIGN on on NEW beautiful home this afternoon. I am still in shock.

Queen, we have sent cards in snail mail before. Someone has to get permission from the receipient first. I have addresses for 2 ladies in our group and they have mine.

HOOTIE hoo to you know who!

    Happy Monday!

Jazz- I am feeling better. Thank you for asking. I do have upper right shoulder pain that really gets severe at times but I am handling it. I have a appt today with my primary doc just to go over everything since my dx. All in all I think the chemo is working . I am soo glad to be done with the Taxotere. I am feeling stronger and my taste buds are finally acting almost normal.

Chevy- what an adorable dog you're babysitting.

I hope everyone had a good weekend. Sending positive thoughts to Patti and family.

Sassy- I do the crawl, back stroke and side stroke. I also use a kick board during my laps during my work outs just to give my arms/shoulders a rest during my laps, as I have one slightly arthritic shoulder and need to not over do sometimes. By mixing it up during each 10 laps, it keeps it interesting. No butterfly for me, too hard on my shoulders.

Then I soak in the hot tub! The best part! LOL!

Thanks Jazzy, I do the backstroke and modified breast stroke. Then a backstroke I learned as a kid. It has had an odd result. I'll et you know what I find :) Odd I have to keep it under thrirty too. I was doing 35-40---crippled me, then they're was that DUH moment. Otherwise, too much pain the next day. When I backed off the pain was majorly less. Try to keep around 25, but I loose count. Best investment of years was the solar panels. :)

Loverly, I definitely pinpointed my Ativan as raising my tinnitus to very loud levels. It where's off to low levels after about a day, sometimes more. Bummer. Must get out and get some melatonin.

Sassy- oh yes, breast stroke too. I forgot that one. I keep my laps to 30 most of the time, 40 max. I was doing as much as 70 about five years ago but no way my shoulders can handle that now.

  • hi lovely Owlettes. Just a quick post to say g'day. Haven't quite caught up on all the news since I went off to be a super trooper in Melbourne but thought I would pop in anyway.

Before I share my news..... Sas, your DB is a lucky guy to have you as a sister speaking up with such knowledge on his behalf. Rose, so glad you have got a way to get timely relief from the ascites.

Thank you to those who some......I dunno......20 or so pages back......gave me advice last week about managing work. It meant so much to me that you shared some tips and understood what I was trying to say. My DX was DCIS, very extensive with 17.5cm of malignancy and everything else pre-malignant. Nowhere near as frightening as many of you amazing ladies have experienced but I have not fared well since DX and going back to work was so much more difficult for this tough old bag than I expected it to be.

As it turns out, when I got back from Melbourne my PS decided now was the time to finish my interrupted ( because of multiple complications) reconstruction and so I am now recovering from unexpected surgery on Thursday. He added a reduction of my healthy breast to the surgery as there was no way possible to reconstruct my UMX site to match the healthy one.

He has done a great job, and I know I am very lucky. I am off work again for another couple of weeks and am hoping for trouble free wounds healing. When I go back to work, your words of advice will be guiding me. Thank you so much for your generosity of spirit.

Jacfin, Great news. Hope your recovery is easy-peasy. Thanks about DB Charlie, but he's a pain in the neck.

LOVERLY---------------he's coming. I called Retsky and he's coming to look at the thread. I'm breathless. Had to work hard at not getting tongue tied. He's really a nice guy. Very easy to talk too. It will be hard to wait.......................Need to work off this energy BBL.
