On our way to the party place. I see some brought their hubbys. Don't we look fabulous.

I think I see that cake in there somewhere. These are of course non caloric.

And afterwards we can have some adult libations. They look kinda healthy.

Just came back from seeing my child-hood friend Carol.... She had that stroke about 3-4 months ago? It was about 4 to 6 hours before anyone found her...

Still has a hard time trying to speak... In a wheel-chair... and has a broken wrist, (somehow)... I took over Pizza & a Key-Lime Pie that I made... Her x-Daughter-in-law, and her fiance' were there... and her Son lives with her now... They all do physical therapy with her...

It's just so hard to see her like this........ She "under-stands" but can't answer anyway that I can understand...... yet... So much patience to work with her.... and she gets so frustrated..... and impatient.... I just thank God everyday for what we have.............

Just popped in to see how some old friends are. Glad to see most are doing OK and still sparking.

About to venture forth into USland again and by next Saturday will be in Denver.

    Hugs

Chevy: Really sorry to hear about your friend. There are some interesting studies out there on brain plasticity and how the brain can remap to be able to do things again.

Look for this book: The Brain that Changes Itself by Norman Doidge. My library has it,, maybe yours does too. I'm not quite finished with it yet, but the chapters I read about stroke patients and their recovery was really really interesting.

Look up Edward Taub, Taub therapy clinic, Constraint-Inducted (CI) Movement therapy. It's all about rewiring the brain.

Also look for AutoCITE. (automated CI therapy) it's for people who can't get to his clinic,,, which if I remember correctly is in Alabama.

I also read about learning a completely different language,, like Japanese,,, can help with recovering speech after a stroke,, again, due to remapping of the brain. Need to look for that citation. There is hope.

    Happy Birthday, Rosie!!

Owe my hubby big time tonight!!!!!!!!!!!! Was having trouble getting my "w" key to work. Almost had to press down hard to get it to work. Hubby grabbed the can of air we keep for problems like that and gave it a quick shot of air. Whatever was jamming it up cleared out and its working again. He's a miracle worker when it comes to fixing my computer!

  • Random cheerful/amused note (not sure where to post this on the lists for which I'm active): one of the women going through rads at approximately the same time as I wears an absolutely smashing GIANT woven straw cowboy-style hat, complete with ribbon and feather.

I expect she did chemo first? as no hair evident below the hat, but I will try to emulate her, should I ever be in that position. And she's an avid gardener--today she was showing the techs pictures of her purple passion hosta on her smartphone.

  • But more importantly; happy chosen (for you) birthday, Rose. No fancy images.

Chevy- I am sorry about your friend. It sounds like she has a lot of support and people who love her and are helping her to get stronger every day. She is one tough lady and more importantly, I am glad she has YOU for a friend. I bet your visit meant the world to her. Tasty things you brought to eat too. You rock lady.
