I took my dss shopping for fall clothes today. As soon as the got home at 4pm we left just got home like 9,.pm. I know some of you shoppers would laugh at the short time spent but for me if felt like forever. Was glad my back and energy level allowed me to do that. Many many times in the past ,2,years dh has had to take them because it was impossible for me. Although I am sore , it sure felt wonderful. Love that momy stuff

Kathindc, I had a coworker who pet sat for a dog who needed to be medicated for separation anxiety. Think it was her in-laws dog? Can't remember. Anyway, that dog was a real problem, because he would have something like IBS when he was stressed. He'd poop all over the house! Made torn up pillows look like nothing, lemme tell ya.

Cubbie, I saw a Kong toy at the store the other day. Almost got the toy, but didn't think she would care for it. I tried letting her roam around the house and pretended to leave thinking that maybe it's the crate she doesn't care to stay in. I stayed in the garage and watched her through webcam. The poor thing paced around the house whining and howling for about 5-10 minutes before she peed in my living room!! I had already let her out not too long before that to pee and poo.
Kjones, you are right. Belgian Mal are working breed and highly intelligent. We walk her twice a day and about 2 times a week we let her run in an open field near our place. That might not be enough to wear her out, but it wears me out. The most she stays in her crate is a bit over 3 hours on Sunday when we are at church. DH has been taking her to his office and whenever he runs errands. She is a very sweet dog. Wouldn't eat the first day when we brought her home. I finally had to take the food and put it in my hand to feed her by the second day. She took it from my hand so gently.... I just wanted to hug her. Lots of work and patience. Need prayers for patience. Thank you for your suggestion.

Radiation went well they did 4 spots - left shoulder, each hip femur head and distal femur above the knee. Haven't turned off the lights to see if I glow. I woke up with some stunniing sciatic pain down my left leg to my shins.. miserable all day. Looking forward to sleep and no pain. Slowdeepbreaths sent me a PM that Calico on D&D thread passed on Oct 6th. She was in hospice and it was expected, but I will miss her lots. So I am bummed. Cancer sucks.
Cubbie- my cousin had a dog with separaton anxiety and the vet put the dog on prozac. It worked.

Had that Impression made for my lower partial... He just kept saying "Your mouth is so SMALL!" I should have used a smaller FORM!" And I thought didn't you look before you loaded that form up with WAX ... FIRST? So he says my mouth is "small"... Hah! Bet some gals would be jealous of that one... My friend Tina could stick a whole ice-cream cone in her mouth! Also her fist! The guys loved it! We would act silly sometimes after work, and stop at this little bar up in Golden, and all sit together and drink and LAUGH our butts off, and tell inappropriate jokes!
Then drive home... DH was usually off fishing or hunting, or I couldn't have DONE it! SOMEtimes we went DANCING! I mean to the Red Balloon Saloon, with disco-music in the 80's! What's that old saying? While the cats away the mouse will play?

RoseValley, how many treatments do you have to have? I have to have 30 and am only on my 10th today
Glad to hear it went well for you. It's getting harder for me. Not exactly sure what it is about it that bothers me so, but it does.Patty-glad you got to do that with your DSS. It's hard but can be so healing doing stuff, even when we are exhausted!!

LOverly, I agree with Kristen, Try mitzi sleeping in your room if that's possible. Just close the closet doors. If she has to sleep in the kitchen, have the door closed to her cage. Think about taking out all bedding in the cage at night or when you leave. This wouldn't be a permanent thing. Think transition. Then consider the recommendations a few pages back about the blankets and toys from the thrift store. Some dogs like to nest. The blanket, she could make a nest with. Stuffed pillows she can't. She may be tearing them up to try and make a better nest. Works for her, but not for you. Also, I suggested putting the cage under a table and someone else suggested putting a blanket on top of the cage. Either are good. The pic where you can see the sliding door from Mitzi's cage. please, move the cage to a quieter area. The activity outside could be stimulating her to much. Working/hearding /hunting dogs respond to movement.
Kristen, Love to meet folks that had Brits. Brits are such great dogs, but so high energy. AND so good with kids. So, smart and mellow. I didn't continue with them here in Florida b/c there wasn't anywhere safe to take them. Always worried about gators and snakes. Trying to keep a Brit out of water or diving into a woodpile, is impossible as you know. I had a laugh when you said " I have no experience with a BM". As a nurse I went right to bowel movement. Then my Dh's Bill of Materials. Then it was put it in context dummy(me). Ah-hah Belgian Malinois. DUH. had me laughing for a wee bit. Spookiesmom--Spookie had Brits too. Glad to see you back here. Simplicity is new here and she has kids too
My Schatzi is a German Wired Haired Pointer. But she was abandoned b/c she's gun shy. She's a great dog too. Love dogs.0 -

I have a pit bull mix that was doing the same thing. I crated her at night and while I had to work if my oldest wasn't going to be home. I started leaving her out at night and stopped crating all together and the chewing stuff up has stopped. I think she just needed to be a 'part of the house' and had a bit of anxiety. Not sure that would work with all dogs, but it did help my Reba

Loverly, Kathy 's thought about meds, is another workable solution. Again think transition. Until her mind accepts all this new stuff and gets away from all the bad stuff she came from, easing her through it with a bit of medication will help. After one of my falls this summer. Schatzi became a basket case for a few weeks. Her anxiety was off the charts. The doc had me use________(I forget) maybe valium. It didn't take long and it worked. The other thing the vet suggested, if that didn't work was Prozac. That surprised me, but she described it as the go to drug for dogs with uncontrolled anxiety. Just read that Rosie suggested Prozac too

Mema I agree on the solitude thing. If DBF is around too much he makes me crazy. But I want him home on Friday's that's been a bone of contention b/c he want's to be out with the boys. Has that power job been over long? I had one too long ago. It did take along time to transition away from the respect and ability to do what I wanted, when I wanted it. Did make working for other nurses that were a PITA, a PITA. It does get way easier with time, is the reason I ask

This is what my living room floor looked like after Nacho destroyed the treat bag. I still haven't cleaned it up, I may make DH do it since it happened on his watch. On the other hand, he's taking me to the neuro. But I have to conserve my energy. I have so little. I didn't have much before BC, and between the chemo and the rads, well let's just say I have to plan ahead to get up for a coffee refill much less a new doc most of an hour away. They sent me the paperwork to fill out and bring in, and I forgot about it till 3 days ago and I've been procrastinating since then, so I finally filled it out this morning. I thought electronic medical records was supposed to take care of all that! What the heck is that about anyway? And don't they know that the older we get the more lines we need for surgeries, meds, symptoms, etc? I can't write that small!
When we got Sophie, our rescue cat, Nacho had to be medicated for a few days because he was so excited and she is so skittish that we were afraid he'd overwhelm her. They get along fine now, she's fascinated by his tail.
My niece called yesterday. She's in acting school in NYC. Well it's a real college but that's what she's pursuing, and she's got what it takes. Talent, presence, passion. She's just awesome. Think Carol Burnett and Lucille Ball in Julie Newmar's body. She's 6' tall. Been on stage since she was 3. Well she called because it was the 15th anniversary of her dad's death from cancer (small cell squamous). Or as she put on Facebook, dead dad day. He was my friend, I introduced him to my sister, and the rest was history. They had 13 years.
Well, time to go get ready for doc. We shall see what he has to say. I'll check in my pocket for you, Sassy.

Mags part of Obama care was requirement for electronic medical record-EMR system, the law didn't require that it actually be used by the doc. The staff may input everything and work through recording everything and orders/scripts etc. The owners of my PCP's practice chose to pay the fine rather than learn how to use the system that the manager worked for almost a year to develop. The senior owners(3) are computer illiterate. Makes me wonder about the rest of their skills. But my PCP is just the opposite, so, it doesn't hurt me , but I feel bad for their patients.

I hate putting a dog in a crate. The only time I EVER used one was after my Aussie had major surgery, and that was just for a week. Some claim their dogs like them, l just DONT. Can you contain her in the kitchen where she won't be able to get into stuff? She's maybe never been in a crate in her life.
Start working with some on leash obedience with high value treats. Sit, stay, down, come. Use a retractable leash for come. Let her wander the length, you can reel her in. HAPPY HAPPY voice. Keep it short, 5 min sessions few times a day.

I'm still sad of the whole Bacon thing..... also, Theresa is getting moved today to a rehab place. Supposed to be really nice, clean and small... If THIS don't work for her, then over to the long-term care part.
Right now she won't/can't move her little legs... They are so swollen and painful, and the Neuropathy makes it so she can't even sit, much less walk. So Judy, nor I think this will really work out.... We know her.... and how stubborn she is.... She thinks she just might hang it up, if it is too hard, or she loses her will to live..... That's what we are for.... I will go see her Thursday.... first time I could see or talk to her! It's been a week, and I'm used to talking to her every night.... I finally called her room today, but she wouldn't or couldn't answer the phone....
It's just like been going on for over a month.... slowly at first... some good, and some bad days... then the dehydration, and the blood transfusion, and she WAS just using a cane! Then a Walker, and then she passed out by her bed.... Gotta get that little sassy-pants on her feet....

Have a few crowns myself. I blame it on bad genes and not having dental care until I work and have insurance. Parents were dirt poor when we first came here. Struggled to put food on the table for eight of us kids. Dental care was on the bottom of the bucket

Ms. Spookie, Mitzi doesn't hate going into the crate when she is tired or when she doesn't want to play. She just doesn't like being locked up and no one is in sight. She voluntarily sleeps in it at night. I tried letting her roam around the house thinking maybe she doesn't like to be locked in there when we are away. She frantically paced the house looking for us about 5 minutes after I pretended to leave. We have security camera and often review it to see how she reacts when we are away. I feel so bad for her. She often goes into panic mode and try to dig herself out of the crate...very neurotic behavior. It's torturing for her. Last night we had a long talk about possibly re homing her with a retired person(s). She is such a loving and affectionate girl. She deserves a peaceful home. My DD said last night that she wishes that she could just do her school work at home so that Mitzi would not be alone. Minus the anxiety, she is a perfect dog.
Ms. Sas, I thought about moving the crate to a different location. The crate is currently in the kitchen next to the sliding door that leads to the backyard. Even with the tinnitus, I can here my neighbors' dogs and young kids when they are in their yard. The homes that are built these days do not have very good sound insulations.

Ok, so ask the vet about Prozac for her, till she settles down. When DD got married, she had a male and female dogs. SIL had same. The boys did not get along. Poor Bruzier was getting mauled. 2 months of low dose Prozac, Timber got over himself. They never became best buds, but it worked.

Ms. Spookie, I forgot to add that Mitzi has already learned the basic commands. She is so smart that she found her way home one day. Okay, okay, it is not what you think. I was walking her one morning about 5 days after we got her. Two loose dogs approached us( one looks like a pit-bull mixed and the other one is lab mixed). They scared her (and me) so badly that I had to let go of my grip of her. In the panic mode, I didn't know what else to do. Went all over the neighborhood looking for her. I thought it was weird that the two dogs were hanging around in front of my house and that Mitzi was no where in sight. Yup, found her in the backyard pacing proudly. We couldn't figure out how she got in until we saw the recorded video....the girl jumped the fence! Amazing how she remembers her way home from only a few days with us

Yes, I've heard of gals stopping chemo.... sometimes, depending on their circumstances, I applaud them for deciding what is best for them! Chemo can be much worse for some than it is for others.... I would feel bad too, but who knows.... with you as his guardian angel, she could out-live us all!
Oh Mags! Sorry about the mess..... guess it could have been worse... It COULD have been $100 bills, right?
