INSOMNIACS place to talk in the wee hours

Chevy how's Judy feel about her going back to assisted living? Pretty generally, the management of the assisted living facility(ALF) will have someone come an evaluate Theresa before discharge. Legalities and responsibilities if she returns and falls. Plus, she should have a team evaluation at the rehab to determine a slew of factors. Independence in dressing, bathing, walking, eating, pill taking (she has to be able to receive them and put them in her mouth),. The final question is she safe. If they determine she is not safe, she can't be discharged to a facility that doesn't meet her safety level. Two evals---leaving from one to be received by the other one. All this is being done behind the scenes. Problem is if they wait to the last minute and tell Judy she can't go back to the ALF, there will be a scramble to find a nursing home bed. Judy needs to be in on the discussion.

Mitzy is so cozy and sweet! Looks like she has settled right in. Mags I like your new slip covers! I have slip covers on our family room couch and chairs- have since we bought it. Flexsteel furniture is nearly kid proof except no fabric is dog and kid proof. So I have white slip covers and a carmel colored corderoy set.. that is wearing out. They don't make it any more and I can't get a replacement. If I didn't have an old oriental rug with many colors I would go for a print. Nothing changes a room faster then slipcovers!
Chevy great news about Teresa. I hope she finds a place to live that is comfortable and helps her live her best. Susan I'm sorry about your Mom, but if she's happy that's terrific. Hope everyone is sleeping and pain free. Sassy thanks for your comment about the nurse and the cut catheter (D&D thread) ..jeez. I was wondering what was up with that??
Cubbie- I hope you are getting some rest. My DH swears by Naturemade 5mg Melatonin tabs. They are cheap and melatonin just helps you get to sleep, not stay asleep. It also has a short half life and won't make you groggy. It might take the edge off. I think sleepytime tea ,and anything with camomile and valarian in the tea will help you sleep.

Loverly, glad to hear Mitzi is settling in. She's so cute in her blue sleeping bag. She's totally the opposite of my dog, hold up a camera, and he'd pose. I think I'll stick to dark chocolate too. I am not good at taking things one day a time, because I'm a planner. I'm starting a journal of sorts about my worries. It helped a lot years ago when I was having a lot of anxiety in my 20s.
Simplicity, I totally have had that experience. It seems like the more inappropriate the place is to cry, the more likely it happens. Work, public places, etc.
Mags, a bit of redecorating sounds like fun. My house could use repainting, I have so many 1970s colors. Green bathroom, blue bedroom, green living room, yellow kitchen. It's like living in a kid's paint set.
Susan, do you have a way of checking on whether you Mom is taking her medications? Does she have a pill minder you can check? It's good that she is happy. I remember when my great aunt was in the last couple years of her life, she thought she was 16 and living back on the farm. She was happy as a clam. I remember saying to my sister, we should all be so lucky to spend the end of our lives this way.
Chevy, not surprised Theresa is headed out already. I agree with Sas, the assisted living facility will be evaluating her and determining whether she is safe to live with them. They may even have her do a trial at her apartment, to demonstrate to them that she can do things like get in and out of bed, using the bathroom, etc.
Rose, I've wondered about melatonin, but I've been sort of reluctant to try it without checking with my MO first. I'm guessing it's safe with an ER/PR positive diagnosis? I'm still getting familiar with what affects estrogen.
0 -
Cubbie- it is good to ask your MO what he or she thinks is okay to take with the estrogen positive dx. I haven't taken melatonin in awhile, but used to take it a lot and it does help with sleep.
My MO said he likes to read the bottle as some have additives that can be a problem, even if the particular thing you are wanting to use does not. Take your bottles with you next visit!

This chit full week has ended on a much better note. From Kris escaping last Tues, DH telling me his ca is back, tonight was great. Went to a Veterans Day concert tonight. All choir. There were 3 elementary 5 th grades, one middle school choir, and ensembles from a HS on one stage. Colors presented by MacDill Honor Guard. All branches of military recognized. One teachers 90 yo father was escorted in, in his Navy uniform!! DD played Amazing Grace on the pipes. Very nice evening.

Loverly - point me to the backyard picture, I must have missed it. I will be oh so jealous if you have oodles of figs - though lots of baby saplings is probably not what you want. My fig tree did nothing this year, leaves & branches but no fruit. It will die back to the ground and start all over again in the spring. Sigh - getting nowhere with it. I've read about bending them over and wrapping them. I know they have fig trees up north. I even have a Texas recommended fig tree.
Part of my errands accomplished. Oil change done, inspection on hold. Goodyears' connection to the state was down so could not report inspection into main databank. We've had separate inspection and registration forever but this year down to one sticker. Inspect, then register within 90 days. Next year the period will only be 30 days. Oh my! Glad I started early; it's up in December, end of the month. Scoped out a turkey for our Thanksgiving that is is DD comes out. If not it's anyone' guess what DH and I will have. DB is back in Ft Worth the Friday after Thanksgiving for the Baylor/TCU game. Maybe DH and I can get together with DB/SIL for brunch. I take the busyness by spells. DH taking my car tomorrow since it's going to rain and Thursday evening is church meeting. Might wait until next week to call friend for lunch. I'm thinking a few days at home except for the Thurs night meeting. Def. need to call heat man for checkup on system. I usually make DH do it but he won't have a weekday off after Friday for 2 weeks so I guess it's up to me. Madison Bridge - like Bridges of Madison County which I never saw. I'll see if I can get DH to dig up a picture. I cannot post from our files. I do OK on random google stuff.
Mags - I too like the new slipcovers and the panels look to match wonderfully well.
Chevster - are you getting snow out of this? How's about Phyllis? We might get spits/showers but windy oh my tomorrow afternoon. Back to fire warning weather again. Flood/fire/flood/tornado now we just need snow/ice.
I agree with what was said about Theresa going back to Assisted Living. I know with reimbursements she probably has hit her plateau on "progress", only reason for them to talk of her returning. Rehab is very sticky wicket on the MONEY end. Yes caps for a reason. Can Theresa get some extra services at AL? They will cost but meals can be brought to the room at least the ones I dealt with. There's a whole lot of stuff that's "extra" they might investigate if only for the short term.
Yay Spookie. Glad the week is improving. How is Kris doing? How is your DH?

Took Kris about 3 days to recover. He had blisters on most of his paw pads. Poor baby.
DH is not telling me much, getting info is like pulling your own teeth. He will be getting a 6 month Trelstar shot soon. He had 35 rads first time, now he thinks the rad seeds that are implanted are good for him. IDK. Have told him several time I'd rather he went to MO. Stubborn mule.

cubbie, my brother never married or moved ou. He still lives with mom. But he is not talking to me right now...so I just pray he is on the ball. I saw 5 books on alztimer on their kitchen table, so I am going to guess he is figuring it out. I am an hour and half away. So I go once a week to take her to eat and shop and see her sister. She seems happy, and that is important to me. I didn't like seeing her sacred cause she didn't recognize me. She seemed ok after awhile, could have been my voice, we talk every day, not sure. My hubby parents went through this. Lots of ups and downs...
I'm tired...night night

Susan, big bear hug to you. I'm sorry about your current circumstance. It's good that your mom is happy. My closest friend's mom has dementia and possibly Alzheimer. I can see how draining it is for her to care for her mom. Unlike yours, she is verbally and physically abusive towards my friend and her dad. Hate to see how draining and exhausted my friend look most of the times

Goats, here is a pic of my tiny backyard I posted a few days ago

A few yards to the left of the water fountain there are lots of fig saplings. They are tough to pull out. I cut them down to the ground and they stubbornly grow back. Ugh. I like fig, but not babyfig trees in my backyard.

MS. Spookie, oh the storms in our lives. I'm happy to hear that you have a joyful day today. Wish I could listen to your DD plays Amazing Grace. Love that hymn.
Mag, redecorating is fun. The pattern looks nice and cozy.
Had Vietnamese Crepe for dinner yesterday. Mom makes the best crepe.

Spookie, a little light
DH going to a urologist? Glad Kris is okay, poor baby. Cubbie, I took Melatonin and Ativan to sleep. Raging insomnia. Now sporadically take either Ativan or Restoril. I'd take Melatonin, but I keep forgetting to pick it up at my health food store.
Loverly, daytime good with baclofen, I can definitely tell when it's wearing off. .....Love your back yard. Feng Shui? I can't do much, Dini knocks things over looking for lizards. My fountain sits in the garage.
How do VN crepes differ than French crepes? Looks good
what's inside?Mags, love Chitnz. New yard, planned new sun room. Having a bit of fun eh?
Susan, hugs

Morning all! Did you ever get stuck on someone's FB page, and keep clicking through their awesome fun pictures? And you don't even KNOW them? It was fun, anyway!

And yes... thanks for all the comments about ms. Theresa! That makes so much sense... I hope they DO evaluate her before she leaves there... I think the push is to get her back to where she was, to save money? I won't say that, but I think they will try it, because she WANTS to go back so bad....
She is used to people being with her all the time, at this place... Back at A.L. she is by herself... and could do anything she wants.... Bingo, go on trips, "exercise class" ... and go to the dining room on her own... I don't know how Judy & Steve could expect her to fit right back in, just because she wants to..... And she IS used to getting her way..... That little Italian temper will shine right through...Ha! Oh well... I can't really DO anything, other than be with her, and encourage her to get stronger....
Lilgoats..... They are paying $3000 a month for her at AL right now, and I think the Medicare is running out at the Rehab.... No, well I mean they MIGHT come GET her for her meals at AL, but not dress, or take her to her bathroom, or put her to bed, etc. They DO give her showers, do all the cleaning, (which there really isn't any) and change bedding, etc......
But she could STAY at this place, and keep the same room-mate, only it is in the skilled nursing program.... not rehab... which I don't know what that means..... I think that would be better, unless she miraculously gets back to the way she was! THAT way they could give up the AL apartment, and just keep her there... She is still having moments where she isn't thinking straight.... but Judy is just excited about moving her back to AL.
And we ARE getting a big snow-storm right now! I mean it is SNOWING billy-hell! (whatever that means!) And only 32 degrees! I straightened up the garage yesterday, so nice out...! And wake up to a blizzard.... I would take pictures, but you all know what snow looks like....
Well, with a few exceptions.......Loverly, I LOVE your back-yard! So neat & clean & pretty!
Susan, Your Mom just can't figure some things out.... take it slow..... and just know that things will be different a lot of the times.... With my Grandma, I just rolled with the punches... and then tried to figure out NOW what? She lived in AL, and when she got to a certain point, the people talked to me about getting her more care, and what was going on with her...... That's when you need a lot more help in figuring things out.
Okay Spookie... Wake up! Time for a thermometer reading from sunny Florida... Ha! xoxo

Sas, no specialist. Stubborn mule wants PCP to do it all. Now he thinks rad active seeds implanted is the answer. He's already had 35 external rads.

ok Chevy, here ya go!! No snow in my forecast.

Phyllis is under Blizzard Warning and not the kind you get from Dairy Queen. 1-3". As the crow flies this is Kanorado KS (get it - Kansas/Colorado border) is not that far from her.

Loverly - yes I do remember the picture now. Just bum figs off your neighbor. I can see that you don't want volunteers springing up. Your mom can cook Vietnamese crepes for me too.
Chevster - Theresa would have to have a demonstrable need for skilled unit. Again it's all about the money. If all assessments come to conclusion that she is at the best she can be (even though that will most likely not be as good as it was) they will discharge her back. Now providing that the AL facility accepts her back. That too depends on the money I'm sad to say. They will balance their obligation/risk analysis versus how many are on the waiting list.
Susan - I hope there's some resolution for your mom. I know you don't like seeing her scared. Don't you wonder what prompted your DB to start reading Alzheimers Books - rhetorical question since you're not communicating much.
My MIL had dementia - not sure if she had a true Alz diagnosis. She and my FIl lived with my SIL for several years. Bless her heart - it was the perfect situation for my MIL. The last time we saw her I could tell she knew we were very important to her but I don't think I ever heard her call my DH or any of us by name and she adored my DD. Thank goodness she was never combative. I think we used to say in hospice (now don't take this as gospel) that the sweeter they were pre dementia you'd better watch out. And vice versa. Might have been true for my MIL lol. I had a pt who had a fall and then came on hospice. Much nicer personality after the fall - she and her DD had lived at the same NH for years.
Psalm 103:15-16
15Asfor man, his days are like grass;
As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16For the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
And its place remembers it no more.
They are finishing the tear down of my neighbors house this morning. I felt compelled to look this scripture up today and have a little cry.

Spookie - Will the rads guy even take an order from a PCP? Hmm I wonder.
I saw these on GMA today. Not my usual program but I was looking for news on Dancing with the Stars.

Darn I cannot post you tube videos anymore. Search for dancing turtle shower. The Shake Your Booty one is longer and better.

Spookie- the west has a big storm going on. Chevy is getting snow, we got 60 mph winds last night.
That is how breezy!

Oh my Dear!
0 -
bah! JUST 60? That's barely tropical storm force. JK. It's nothing to mess with. That's enough to down trees and take off roofs.
STAY SAFE

Loverly, I made crepes for the first time. It was fun and taste good too!

Jazzy 60 miles an hour here makes it a tropical storm I think. Spookie?
