Sorbitol is listed in drug references as a laxative. Kids who chew too much sugarless gum can get diarrhea from it. A good pedi will ask about this. I would think over time their digestive system gets used to the effect. Maybe they get constipated if they stop? Never had that problem with DD. I detest gum, has always made my teeth hurt. I allowed it only for a couple of days after braces tightening. In fact her dentist would write for a pass for gum chewing. That is a trick I wished I'd known myself.
Hmm Chevy maybe DH would like to take up gum chewing? But gum chewing does cause gas from swallowing more air.

I know it's listed as a drug(s), I know man has invented more drugs, but they were developed AFTER figuring out how all the natural digestion of fruits worked. The basic chemical structure and then using chemicals to make copies. That's why on the C thread I stuck to foods. Wiki takes it through the whole description of what man has invented. Man has invented other things that mimic sorbitol. I've pretty well been suspicious of manmade chemicals all my life. I'll use what god gave us, in it's purest form when possible. All of it's on the C thread.

Can I pleeeeeze catch a break?????
Last night my PDM died. That's what runs my insulin pods. I lost everything. I:c ratio, basal rates, correction rates, meter, everything. Calls Insulet, they will overnight a new one, be here tomorrow.
This has never happened to me. I had to get a cheap meter, called my LPN SIL before he left work, he swiped some insulin syringes. Shot some fast acting for breakfast, was a bit high at 140. PCP called in 70/30, 18u X 2. Won't be enough, I'll increase if necessary.
I'm totally afraid of going to high and getting DKA. Don't want to see ER. Can deal with lows.
With Kris, DH ca back, this, I think I'll go to bed and hide.

Aw jeez!!! I was just thinking about you and were going to ask you how Kris is doing. So sorry your PD stop working. Actually, 140 pre-meal is not bad. It's going to be ok. Try not to stress too much(I know easier said than done). I'm sure you are aware that stress can cause BG to go up. Big hug to you. BBL

Olive leaf tea. Never heard of it. Olive leaf capsules are good for keeping lungs clear. What does it taste like? Forgot to get half and half. Earl grey not the same without it.
Miralax is clear. Spike a drink. Make cookies and add chopped prunes. Did that one time by mistake. Was supposed to be date cookies. Oops. Magnesium supplement at night? I sneak veggies into all things with sauce. Google black bean brownies. Not bad. My dd loves the tricolor macaroni. It's got extra fibre. She's a cheese aholic and needs help. Very stubborn too.
Off to find Medicare answers. StIV drug bill outrageous!

no, 140 isn't bad, but I'm usually 90 something in am. I like what body parts I have left and want to keep them, so I stay fairly tight.
Kris is back to normal. Took him 3 days to recover, he must have run on hot pavement, all paws had blisters.

Spookie- (((hugs))) your Guardian Angel is taking good care of you! I mean Kris got returned a little worse for wear. You caught the pump failure and have a plan. DH is still up in the air, but your track record this week is excellent! Unload here as needed. Of course hiding and napping are good too.

Yeah, a break from the string of inexplicable events. Don't we all need breathing room until the next storm. Just like death and taxes, none of us can escape the storms in our lives. Hopefully, not too many category 5's ahead.

I wish I could Loverly. Makes me so sad to hear that. Yeah, it's a chronic, incurable disease, but it doesn't have to kill you. I have never understood that attitude. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink.

Yeah and if they are 76 with dementia you can't make them care or understand how important it is to keep the numbers tight. Pity my poor brother he has to keep any sweets locked in the trunk of his car or buy just enough for one night. My Mom will sneak mounds of ice cream and pudding.. eat a 6 pack in one night. crazy. Her attitude - "I am old and I don't care." She smokes like a stove too.

Dinner out on the 11th, carrot 'cake' cupcakes yesterday on my actual birthday, but next week? Oh, next week! A trip to The Big City for an opera (Wozzeck at Chicago's Lyric. Some of us have odd tastes.) and perhaps a "braising" at the Spa Nordstrom near our hotel (aromatherapy wrap and massage).

Went turkey lurkey shopping today. Albertsons had BOGO Honeysuckle turkey breasts. Bought one and took one to the church for Thanksgiving baskets.

Goats, the merge is the least of my worries with this. Because I had it before I got Medicare, I was grandfathered. Legally they have to pay for it. So when the warrenty runs out next year, I may be screwed. Medicare will pay for the pods, but not the PDM. The pods won't work without the PDM. They run about $500. If I were to change to a conventional tubed pump, no problem. Uh no, I like the freedom with the pods.

Uh, no. Haven't seen an endo in many years. PCP says you're doing fine, see you in 3 months.
I did manage a restart on the PDM today, Insulet said to keep batteries in it so all info isn't lost. But I don't trust it not to die again.
I've been dealing with this since about 1998 or so. My a1c is always around 6.5 I'd like that to be a tad bit lower, but I'm lazy and like to eat.

Gads Spookie you for sure know more about insulin pumps than I ever, ever knew. I worked for an endo years ago but pumps were just coming in. Not sure what pods and PDM are but surely hope you're doing good tonight. Will DH check on you during the night? (That's coming from me since DH and I sleep apart). Or do you need to set an alarm part way thru the night? Whatever makes you feel comfortable - I'm just brainstorming.
