Cubbie- yes, the snow man is made of an accumulation of tumbleweeds. With the winds today, I hear some are accumulating around town!

Dishes are no fun. My favorite story about Thanksgiving dishes story is a friend who hosted a party about 5 years ago and invited several of us and some other friends we did not know, but they all in turn invited 2-3 people each LAST MINUTE. Everybody bailed after dinner was done, and left to go do other things. I stayed and helped the hostess who had no dishwasher do dishes by hand for hours.

    People are a trip! Loopy

Dang it's cold here today, it has felt like it might snow but nothing yet. Cold and wind.

Cubbie as a lover of trees it nearly made me cry to cut a healthy tree for xmas. That was when we first moved to Oregon. Then I started t realize it's a huge industry here and they grow them by the million acres. Farmers living depend on these trees. So dutifully we went out to a neighboring farm and trudged down the isles under cold sunny skies and chose a gorgeous noble fir. It's in the familyroom smelling deliciously fresh. The farmers gave the kids hot chocolate and apple cider. Now cutting a fresh tree and getting muddy shoes is a tradition.

We just came back from taking the dogs for a short walk. I tripped on a raised utility grate and hit the cement like the xmas tree we cut. I am typing this with one hand as my left wrist is wildly sore. Scrapped both palms and the top of my right foot cause my shoe came off. All my weight hit my right knee which is already swollen black and blue. Considering the radiation I just had, I am lucky I didn't break my hip. Oy DH was freaked.. can you get up??? I am going to be so sore tomorrow.. there goes the weekend. My balance and strength just isn't what it used to be. I have to give up walking the dogs.. they pull.

78 degrees sounds nice. It's sunny here but the temps are in the 20s at night and 45 during theday.

rose, so sorry to hear. Hope you can move tomorrow when you get up.

Where's sassy? She's been awol. Hope she hasn't been banned again. Yoooohoooo!

And Yoo-hoo to Patty and blondie too.

  • Oh, no, Rose! Are you sure you don't need to go get checked at urgent care? It would probably be best to leave the dogs at home when walking - or get someone else to walk them with you.

I'm not sure why my parents gave up on fresh trees. It may have been the needles and the watering. I know my Dad complained about how much we spent on the artificial tree, but I'd say we got his money's worth out of it!

Jazzy, those were some rude guests!

Rose- I am glad you got out today for a walk, but sorry about your fall. I know your bones are more fragile these days. I worry too if I fall I will break something. I hope you can ice the sore wrist and feel better. Heat and ice are good for sore things.

Cubbie- the funny/not funny part of that story was being asked at the end of the evening if I would host Thanksgiving the following year? I said I could not commit to something so early, but had no interest in having people over after I saw that. The gal that hosted it popped in the following summer asking if anyone was hosting Thanksgiving? My mother was very ill then, and said I was not going to be in town. In fact, the Thanksgiving that following year was our last holiday together (happy memories). No one in that group stays in touch anymore. That Thanksgiving blow out ended that tradition with those friends!

Rose, so sorry to hear of your fall. If you can, take some ibuprofen for the inflammation and ice down your wrist and knee.

Jazzy, with friends like that, who needs enemies. Luckily they showed their true colors.

Gave up on Christmas trees when the kids flew the nest. Two are local but I got tired of hubby's bah humbug attitude. Just took the fun out of it for me. Kids would always help decorating but I ended up taking it down by myself. Then I found out I am allergic to trees - that explained all those "colds" I got over the holiday.

Kathindc- I had a small artificial tree for years I would decorate, but gave it away this year to the Habitat Restore. I am usually not in town for Xmas, but do some lighter decorating with a few things I do enjoy. I like having enough around to help me with the "Christmas Spirit" but nothing that is too much work. I put away all my fall stuff today and starting taking out the few Xmas items I will put out.

More importantly, I need to pull out my Xmas CDs! Now that is going to be fun!

  • Jazzy, I can imagine there was no way anyone was stepping up to host again after that. What Christmas music do you like? I've gotten so tired of all the standard carols from years of singing them in school, that there are very few that don't send me running from the room. I have a copy of Vince Guaraldi's A Charlie Brown Christmas and it's about the only Christmas music that doesn't drive me crazy. Headphones

Kathindc, I'm allergic to some evergreens as well, but they make me break out in an itchy rash instead. It would be just my luck I'd spend my Christmas itching and scratching if I tried a real tree.

Now why on earth would Santa need a rocket? Is he going to deliver presents on the moon?

Cubbie- most of my Xmas music are jazz artists who have done Xmas CDs. Probably folks you would not know, but I also have a couple other favorites Kenny Loggins, Carly Simon, Sara McLauglin who have also done really nice Xmas albums. I also really love Gregorian chant music and been looking for a good CD with chants oriented around the birth of Christ.

If you have a particular artist you like and google them, chances are they have done a Xmas album!

And I love the Santa rocket. Probably appeals to the kids who love the idea of space travel!

Happy Day Owlies, not MIA, just resting. Had a great time on Thanksgiving. Stephen and Jamie, Bob & Maureen, Mary kay, Donnie and I. We had a Chateaubriand. Got the cooking just right. Most everyone doesn't like turkey.

Chevy, I get the allergy to chemicals. I'm allergic to polyurethane. put that together when my IV sites were looking like 4 day old IV holes and it was a matter of one to two hours. I can only have teflon IV's now. My glasses are a problem now. Found out they are mostly acetate. I have silastic pads now. I was really worried b/c I can't read without glasses. Hope you get it worked out with the teeth. It'll go either way. You'll get more sensitive or you will get less sensitive. You won't know till it's over. Lip swelling though isn't a good sign.

Hope everyone in the middle survived the storms--scarey.

MEMA, you have fallen off the earth? I'm worried about you b/c you have that depression thingy that rears it's ugly head . I know your eyes are a problem, but please, let us know how you are doing.

Hole-In-One. Steve and Jamie loved the slipper chair. YAY. It's a really nice find. It even has a hole in the bottom for the cat to crawl up into.

Off to play, enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone :)

Chevy, heed Sas' advice about your lips swelling. You're a step away from the reaction going to your throat. If you feel any tightening there, get to the emergency room ASAP. It worries me that you are doing it at night while you're sleeping.

Chevster I absolutely agree with Kath and the SassyMaster. I assume - I know, I know - that your dentist is aware since you have something for it. Per this study they can patch test you for anything you might need made in the future.

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC414421...

Mags Dearest - I hope you are safe and warm. Been seeing very ugly pics from OKC via the TVN weather chaser. Just wet and cold here. Rain has actually let up some this morning. DB and SIL were going last night to Baylor/TCU game. Not sure if they chickened out. Another couple from the "Mexican Food" group went - season ticket holders TCU - but not sure how long they stayed. Have to get on Facebook in a bit to see if she posted anything.

Only bad thing is the thermostat on the heat pump side of the heating system is not working right. Would not come on last night without pushing the temp down to get it to trigger on. Thankfully the emergency heat which is old fashioned electric blow torch kind (toasty warm electric gobbler) is working fine. I was having the heat man out Wed, may have to see if he can come Monday but by then temps will be warmer.

Christmas music - I have the DirecTV holiday channel on. I have a new Ed Ames double Christmas CD I got in the heat of the summer. Need lessons on this new computer on how to work it. Have I said I'm an electronic dunce? Have Frank Sinatra, Carpenters, some others but CD changer/player is in other room with DH. One at a time in here.

Jazzy if you find the Gregorian Chant Christmas music let me know. I love them. I looked just now on Amazon and nothing caught my fancy.

Oweee Rosie. Those dogs sound like a handful to walk. I too trip over stuff all the time. We have one walkway stone that needs resetting, just in dirt. Has big edge that sticks up. Hope you are having a good day despite the owwws.

Missing Marlana. Zills missing you too. I think I'm going to troll Amazon for some tea in a bit. We need to make an order. We have a clock that was a mutual gift when we were married. Battery operated pendulum and the motor has quit again. I think I'm superstitious about getting a new clock though in reality the clock takes up a perfect space and I look up there many times a day to check the time.

I'll give Spookie's weather report. Per weather.com 77 degrees, sunny. Sticking my tongue out at you. 37 here now.

Anyone who wants a laugh watch the Oklahoma/Oklahoma State game comes on 8 Eastern on ABC. Supposed to be having freezing rain during the game.

THANK YOU for that article Lilgoats! I researched different articles, but didn't find that one! Now I am positive, that's what it is...

No, I haven't told the Dentist yet, but I will when I go back next week. It seems the problem is IN my mouth, of course, and my tongue is next to the partial, and when I lick my bottom lip when I am eating, is when it causes the problem.... It IS much better.... and still using the cream/ointment that I made... THANK YOU for that article Lilgoats! I researched different articles, but didn't find that one! Now I am positive, that's what it is... I can also send that article to the dentist!

    It is fluocinonide/anti-fungal cream/preparation H..... Now don't laugh!!

Oh I can hear all of you! Preparation H is for swelling... you know that...

Anyway it is working. That cream mixture is for rashes/redness, and I use it all the time, for any allergic problems.

At night, when I put my teeth in, I go to sleep, so I don't lick my lip. It is not swollen today.... and not those "hot needles" on my lip!

I am assuming I know what I am doing, and that the problem is the Acrylic Resin that they use... I am going next week, to tell him what I know is the problem. I think it is called "Valplast"....

I hope he listens & believes me.... Same with my Oncologist! She did not believe taking Tamoxifen caused my hearing loss... But I sent her 5 web-sites, and pages of info I had.... never heard back.... but I didn't go back to her.....

If I can wear, or use this partial, I will.... if I can't, I know he will make sure I will wind up with something I can use. There is just one little sore-spot... but he can fix that.... I just feel like it takes up room in my mouth, which of course it does.... and I'm not used to chewing on both sides.... and I still bite my cheek.....

The dental lab that makes the partial is the same one that made my whole upper plate in 1975!!! I can't figure out why this material is so different, other than there is no titanium in my plate, like in the partial...so maybe the partial is different material. I never had any problem with my plate.

Kath.... I know.... I have gone into allergic shock before, and had to run get a shot of epinephrine.... Even used to carry an epi-pen for bee stings. In other words, I am de-sensitizing my mouth, just like when they were giving me allergy shots.... they build up your immunity to certain allergens .... increasing the dose a little each time, until you can be around those allergens, but they won't bother you.

Okay..... maybe I will put them in during the day when I am not eating, and licking my lip? And take them out at bed-time. But I'll still rinse my mouth out with warm salt water.... that is healing.

Jazzy.... ONE time I had 19 family members over for dinner.... I will NOT do it again..... We had it out-doors, on our huge picnic table, and TV trays, but the clean-up was un-believable. And even though some helped bring the mess back in, there is not enough room for all the women to clean the kitchen! Or put stuff away, and I have no dish-washer!

And try chasing their KIDS around the yard, the neighbor's yard, and the ditch! I wanted to shoot them all. No-one else would go after those 4 boys, so I had to try and tame them down! I finally said "could you guys get those boys out of the ditch, before they get hurt over there?" It was night-time, and they were swing on the branches, and acting like little gorillas!

To top off that whole night.... the guys all got drunk, and were just obnoxious. I could have killed them all.... along with the gorillas!

So no more ...... A few at a time is fine.... and I love to cook, but I clean up while I am doing it, and I'd rather be alone to finish up the clean-up.

  • Jazzy, Gregorian chant Christmas music sound interesting. I may have to do some looking myself.

Chevy, Preparation H? Ewwww! OK, I don't doubt it works, but yuck. I'm sure dental materials have changed since 1975, there is probably some post-space-age material in the partial that is causing the allergy.

Patty, if you're reading, I hope you are still feeling good and having too much fun with the kids and the Turkey Day and the Christmas sales to talk to us. Check in when you can!

Lilgoats, DBF is an HVAC guy, I asked him to look at your note to see if he could make a suggestion--"check the breaker, anything else she's not going to know to do" "Check the condenser fan motor" "Check the Freon level" . "First thing is check the breaker, if it's not the breaker then you are going to have to call a serviceman". I had to laugh at that. One time in the 70's we had a problem with a dishwasher not working. We called a serviceman. He tested the electrical first and said there was no power. We then called an electrician. There was a separate electrical box for the dishwasher and ac as they were added after the house was built. It was in a corner of the basement. He flipped the breaker and it was fine.

With the new subdivision going in be VERY proactive on demanding info and assurances regarding drainage. Don't want your property to suffer flooding damage b/c the contractor didn't do it right. In Florida it can be a big problem from one to another property causing a problem for the next property. Once the property is completed then it's a court action. Subdivisions in Volusia county are always flooding. The county is north of my county.

ROSIE, so soory about your fall. I've experienced quite a few and they are awful. Total bummer. Total chit. I've made all theses personal rules about movement to prevent falls. Just sucks.

I bought a wrought iron clock at SPCA. Doesn't work as a clock, but the wrought iron is very nice.

Chevy, Honey you are writing things twice. Have you been into the sauce too much?

Cubbie, On the eye thing, I'm the same way with mascara. So, I've given up on wearing it. But I'm the same way on chlorine too. Bright red eyes after a shower. Bummer. BTW I'm grey, some of the pics look blonde. I do however have blue, pink, orange, green, purple hair chalk. DS Stephen's work mate's thought it very cool that I had a streak to match my blouse when I visited one time. They were all 20-30 something's. I was this "elderly" person(63 now 65). Personally, I think the streaking with the colors is entirely amazing in white /grey hair as it shows up as the intended color. I think us "old flower children" are ripe for this :)

  • Sas, I think Chevy's repeating herself might be a side effect of that Preparation H salve she cooked up. Winking

The hair chalk sounds awesome! When he was 12, my nephew used to have this stuff called "hair mascara" that came in bright colors and would show up in even dark hair. He has black hair, and one day he had his short hair sort of spiked up and the front near his forehead was painted with this bright blue hair mascara. I took him out to Mcdonalds, and people kept staring over my direction all the time. I finally leaned across the table, and whispered to him, "Why is everyone staring at me, when you're the one with the bright blue hair?" I guess people thought I was the responsible adult, but I needed a t-shirt that said "Not my kid!"

Jazzy, bet that friend made tighter rules after that Thanksgiving and dropped some of those friends. That was awful. No manners.

Smarrty, yes, so funny, I'm gone a wee bit and we think banning. It's true. I have learned how to not be banned---mostly. hahaha

Cubbie, I've had an artificial tree since the middle 80's . 6ft. In the early 90's the boys(dh & DS) objected to bringing it in from the shed. Okay--let's leave it in the living room, and undress it. That worked for a few years. Then they objected too dressing it. I designed a cover and a friend sewed it. It is quite pretty. I posted a pic on the sewing thread, but it didn't do it justice. The day before Thanksgiving we took it off. I then reached down and turned the lights on. Done. The room is basically, Victorian, and the dress is like an Austrian ball dress. It is in the same color family as the walls. No fuss, no mess. Plus, I leave the window dressing up. Some think me weird or smart, others never know b/c they aren't here through the rest of the year.

  • Sas, that's clever. When I used to travel for work, one of the cities I went to had a senior living apartment building that had a Christmas tree up in the front window year round. They used to just change the decorations for the seasons - so they would do Valentine's day, Easter, May Day/spring, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc. I think it was a community activity as well as decor.

I am so sore... but up sort of. Tripping and taking a face plant on the cement at age 57 with all the cancer in my bones... not recommended. This too shall pass. I love Christmas music and will offer some of my favs that you can check out on Itunes and see if it is to your liking.

Chanticleer- We Sing christmas album - WOW Noel Cannon and everything on here is lovely.

Our Heart's Joy A Chanticleer Christmas is wonderful. We have seen Chanticleer many times in concert. The first time I heard them sing Franz Biebl 's (1906) Ave Maria in a dim Spanish Church holding candles - I had goose bumps and tears in my eyes it was so gorgeous.

John Doan- Wrapped in White is lovely- 19thcentury intruments played in a victorian Christmas style - wow sit by the fire drinking a hot cider and enjoy! Mandolin harp, autoharp, bells guitar.. amazing rich arrangements back to a quiet time long ago.

Jessye Norman Sacred Songs - Ambrosian Singers and Orchestra - what voice.

Anonymous 4 - Early Medieval Chant and Polyphony - stunning. These women are amazing in concert too. It's early music at it's best.

Sing Noel- The Motet Singers 2001 - 10 women sing a capella a variety of Christmas songs past and present with clear lovely voices..

I look forward to hearing what you enjoy.

Luvsmygoats: (checking in a bit late) Yeah, the only thing that saved me from my own greed at Adagio Teas that morning was the simple knowledge "I have to lug all this home in my luggage." Spent Thanksgiving with Stepfather, who has this fantasy of raising goats on his wife's (long story) farm. She just looks tolerant and amused. Very amused. Very tolerant.
