Jazzy - so glad you made it back home safely. Yes I kept getting tweets about 40 being shut down.

Lovely pictures Smaarty. Nice looking family. Just realized the round thingy is not a mirror but a cutout into the adjoining room. Tried to figure out how you got more family reflected in the mirror lol.

Wow county vehicle just plowed the road. I've not seen that b4 I don't think. What caught my attention was the snow flying when he rounded our little hill. Roads looking passable now.

Luv- it looks like I-40 has opened, at least as far as the state line to TX. That will help the truckers get a bit further. The sun is out here, so I expect the roads to improve as the day goes on.

I went to shovel the driveway, but found a layer of ice under the snow and just did the sidewalks for now. The driveway is at a slope and can see myself falling and breaking something. So I will wait until we get above freezing and then shovel away the slush! Hopefully can get the driveway dry today so there is no freezing over night. More snow tomorrow!

Lover: barely recovering from food coma--still haven't finished the mince pie.

Wren: right. The Himalayan blackberries. Full armor or a wetsuit needed to pick, if you want to minimize scratches. My horse would eat the leaves, prickles and all. Also thistle heads. Very carefully, but with great relish.

Now contemplating making blueberry muffins. It's a crummy icy windy day here.

Yum mince pie. Neither DH or DD will eat it and I have 3 boxes that store was clearancing. Not that a big rush to use expire June 2017. I shoulda made some because DD hasn't had any in years and her tastes are much more sophisticated now. I think I might make some cookies tomorrow. Anyone else have a mincemeat recipe that's not a pie? Something small I can freeze the remainders of?

So true Jazzy. That was the talk on Saturday. 4 seasons in one day. Hot, humid, rain, hail, tornadoes. Snow on Sunday. Will have to keep that graphic.

Yes my goats like briar when it is tender and wild rose. Elm, dandelion, oak, sweetgum

Smaarty - I think the weather has cleared TX headed to GA, FL. But tuned into Fox News. Planes have many delays at airports not weather affected. Hope she packed good carry on if she's flying.

luv, just carry on, staying overnight for a bowl game then heading back to sunny California!

Half way with the stupid wallpaper. We must have used super glue on this part!

Luv- they were cancelling all the flights into TX yesterday while I was in PHX heading to ABQ. I heard today hundreds of flights were cancelled yesterday all over the place, and feel fortunate to have gotten home last night as planned. I think they are always overbooked during the holidays and things can be cancelled for no apparent reason. I love Southwest Airlines for that reason, they rarely cancel unless it is weather related. Not true of most other airlines.

The thing I hate about travel these days is the whole cannot take liquids on the plane except in small amounts. I was actually working in TX on a project when that ruling came down around 2007, and remember myself and other consultants digging through our stuff to put everything in our suitcases as we were heading to the airport. I end up just packing my personal stuff now in my checked bag, but of course, if you get stuck, you are out of luck unless the hotel has those items.

I hope your friends get to their destination okay.

Oh bleep: that whole can't bring liquids through security crap. Yep, out visiting my father when that edict came through, frantically scrabbling through our stuff to repack, the night before we left. Several years later, it finally occurred to me to use those samples hotels give you.

Hoping everybody gets safely and swiftly to where they're going in this post-Christmas travel period.

Sun finally poked its head out. Shining through a thick coating of ice on this tree. A little fuzzy from my hand shake. But pretty.

mags, very pretty. Doesn't look shaky to me.

Finally done and cleaned up. Wow, whose bright idea was this?? Oh yeah, mine! Oh well, really needed a new coat of paint. Floors will go in next week.

Patty, how'd it go? You ok?

I know Rose is taking a little break. Someone posted last week, how's she doing

Glad the weather seems to be improving a bit. Tried so many times to post this am and kept getting wiped out. So, went to housekeeping threads. They posted fine. Odd.

Smarrty, great family pic. I also wondered about the Mirror. Lilgoats figured it out. How's DGS doing?

    Patty?

Kathy, that's a fun story about your son Thanks, for sharing it :). Thank goodness for Skype. In a different time it would have been so different i.e missing so much with DGS.

Loverly, how's work? Is it still Mon & Thurs? Finally back in order here. Getting seriously lazy.

  • Smaarty
    Smaarty Posts: 2,615

DGS is doing good. Taking his first shower in 2 years right now. They don't think he'll come out. Haha. I'm also taking him to the dentist on Wednesday. Found out he was left on our insurance so we're going to use it up. He hasn't been in probably 3 years. I'm sure his month is a mess. He thinks he's cracked some teeth from gritting them so hard. We'll see.

That hole in the wall used to have a stain glass window in it. It didn't work for the space so we left it open. The kids and cats love it

yeah, I only went 2 weeks after one of my sx. Can't imagine going so long as he did. He didn't have a choice.

I was in DC the morning they stopped liquids. At that time it was all liquids. My DGD was with me and didn't like having to throw out all her stuff. We don't normally have the Tv on but did that morning we were leaving. Heard about the restrictions and delays.

"Wildlife officials said they had no reported injuries to any of the 3,778 hunters who bought permits to kill a bear."

"Florida hunters paid $100 for a permit, out-of-state hunters forked out $300. Total sales reached over $376,900, said Sapp."

"Those two regions by far had the most hunters, with Central Florida attracting an estimated 2,000."

These quotes are my bias. I pulled them from the article. Pisses me of the world take off on one incident, but ignores another.

I understand we have taken away natural predators. Some how we could fix it.......... suppose being naïve.............

It got to be heaven for Nick to take his first shower after two years. Is that him sitting next to grandpa? And DD is in the back( in the circle)? Which one is your other son? You must be sore by now from getting the room ready for them to lay the floor.

Jazzy, nice pictures. The next time we visit Indio, I need to make a stop at the botanical garden.

Very beautiful picture of frozen tree, Mag.

HI1, I am addicted to the kettle corn they sell at the farmer's market in Davis where Rose used to live. If I don't watch myself, I will continue to eat until my stomach hurts.

Ms. CHEVY, I have one teen and one pre-teen. Wish you lived nearby, so I can send them to you to talk about the birds and the bees. They get embarrassed when I try to explain "things".

Ms. Sas, yes I am still doing Mondays, Thursdays, and every other Wednesday. Work is slow. Feel guilty at times for getting paid doing little. I try to do research to expand my knowledge, but find that I have very little memory storage available.

Patty, waiting for your hootie hoo. Sorry about the damage on your home and cars

Oh Loverly, Work is slow----------well that can't be fixed. But your own research. LOL in the same boat. Have to put something in a space here on BCO. Then when I go back to read it. Sometimes I am just amazed I wrote it. Sometimes I just think--That was the simple thought and I have to decipher it. But not meeting your need, sweet one. Read about a particular thing , write what you think, and store it. Not sure if it has relevance. But I've used years old posts because they were 'okay' and can be revised. Loverly, sweetie, It's the first time I sense you're down. This is the time to talk. If not to me then choose someone here. It's important.

Going to bed now. Sweet dream. I'm ok. Just sad with what is going on with our sisters on BCO. Hugs

  • Sas I don't know that bears had many natural predators? More like humans have expanded into territory that used to belong to all these animals.

The sharks is one that always gets me, I mean humans have taken to surfboarding, motor boating etc...in other words, moved out into the sharks natural home. Where on earth are the sharks supposed to go?????? The answer soon will be there IS "nowhere on earth" for these creatures.

Zills you amaze me how you can switch between driving on Left and Right - I would be horribly scared to try! Wow for you! DH does it all the time but has been doing it for years and would be a way bolshier, more confident driver than I am. He is from NC and we live here (I'm Irish).

Zills I saw StarWars yesterday. Had DH (big kid) and DD (little kid) with me. DD is just turned 10. There is a lot of pandemonium etc the usual fast pace and explosions but the violence is bloodless. There is however (PLOT SPOILER ALERT MOVE TO NEXT POST IF YOU DONT WANT TO KNOW) a sudden lightsaber death of an important character near the end so if you think your children would be upset by that it could be useful to know. If you want any more details pm me and I will tell you. My DD was a bit upset but she is not one who gets too emotional at movies. That was interesting about The Good Dinosaur as I thought that looked really family friendly. There is a great website to check out the absolute lowdown on this stuff for your family. I will pm you the link.

Smaarty hope you enjoyed StarWars. I thought the names were not nearly as wonderful as in the original Trilogy. Anakin Skywalker, Darth Vader. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Leia Organa, Yoda etc were really wonderful musical names. Poe Dameron, Rey, Finn and Kylo Ren did not quite hit that note for me.

    Love to all.

    Morning gals!

    BEAUTIful family miss Smarty!

Glad your house is coming together.... It is really a job.... I just did sections at a time.... Or part of a room.... I remember putting up flocked wall-paper one time in our bedroom! It was sooooo pretty.... until you got sick of it, and it started fading and you then tried to remove it all.... WHAT A DAMN JOB! Wallpaper, I don't care how good it is, will eventually start to lift and peel....

I did every wall at one time or another in this house... not to mention the flooring and ceilings.... But it doesn't need done anymore... I've moved to doing the outside of the house now.... Ha! I'll finish the painting this Spring.... with the help of our neighbor, who does that kind of work.

Hi Jazzy.... I just watched a FB page of my Brother's.... this guy was playing something similar to "pan-drumming" but only with his hands and fingers... I'll try and post it....

Zills...did you go see Star-Wars? It's breaking all the box-office records!

Lilgoats! Hah! Okay, now I get it! The hole in the wall is NOT a mirror! Very good idea Smarty! Are you in the middle of all the Texas storms?

Queenly... It's fun reading about you farm-gals, and the things you know about, which us city-folks don't have a clue! Prickles and Thistles? I mean your vocabulary is even different....! Ha!

Smarty, my chicken neighbors are in Houston! I haven't heard from them, and I've sent her emails, wondering what was going on in their area. Ah, you're still scraping wall-paper? Did you spray it with vinegar and water as you were doing it? And then with a big metal spatula? You have to soak it...... I'm sure you know this by now...:)

Lilgoats.... Isn't Mince just smashed up fruits like raisins, pineapple, etc? Couldn't you add it to maybe a cookie mix, and make it that way? My Grandma used to make her own home-made mince-MEAT pie! I thought that was the worst thing in the WORLD~ Meat in a pie? But now I think it sounds okay! Just left-over roast beef in the mince mixture....

Beautiful picture Mags~ Yes the sun will shine here today, but staying COLD.... It's only 10 degrees, but no extreme weather like in a lot of the country.

Sass, is it your computer or your carrier? Or are you on a tablet, etc?

I had a lot of trouble until I up-graded to AOL Desktop 9.8 instead of 9.7. I researched the problems with Windows 10 working with AOL, and found a lot of people had the same problem, so I upgraded, and it fixed all the "hang-ups" etc. Maybe it's just a simple fix?

Smarty, glad your GS is doing better! Love the pictures of the wild-life and the GROUND~ I don't know what it's like to see ground instead of snow and ice.

I don't like to think about hunting anything.... I know DH used to go with his Brothers.... but now, it just doesn't seem right.... especially bears, etc.

Little Loverly.... It would be impossible for me to try and explain anything anymore, like about sex, with a straight face. It's just that I remember so much about growing up, and what is right and wrong, and how we live through it, and then form our own opinions..... If I were a teacher, it would go something like this..... "Guys!.... do NOT think that these girls are just little things to play around with! Don't even THINK about sowing your wild oats without protection, you little brats!" And "GIRLS.... get a damn grip"....! You don't have to go marching around there looking like THAT! You dress like tramps, and expect the guys to leave you alone?"

    Yes.... I have become opinionated.

Sass! You go back? I mean you go find things you have posted? I can barely get through what I am writing right now!.....

Morning Feline.... Same here... We have taking over all the wild animals grounds, by building, etc. and we wonder why they bother us! Same with sea-creatures.... Funny how our ideas change as we get older..... I'm the one who rescues spiders in the tub.... ! I cover them with kleenex, and throw them in the basement.... Too cold for them outdoors.....

Took DH to the PC yesterday.... then we went to McDonalds and split a Quarter-pounder..... There is no way that hamburger is a quarter-pounder! But it was so GOOD!

Then I was just ZONKED the rest of the day! I came home, covered up with the heating-throw, and took a nap! And I just didn't feel good. Didn't even eat dinner.... I drank a lot of iced-tea, Sprite.... but didn't want food. I went to bed at 7... just so cold all day and tired!

So today I have to make up for it.... and stay warm..... Ha!

the quarter pounder get you down Chevy?

Thanks for the movie review. He will be 7 but still not sure. Don't think the ending would bother him.

i didn't realize it was a window either. Good eyes!

I heard you dilute fabric softener and spray on wallpaper after you score it. Might smell better!

Speaking of movies, went to see the movie Sister with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Super funny, but kind of dirty too. Just in case any of you are thinking about bringing your moms or DDs.

Chevy- no steel drum class being offered again. I am holding off on buying a new one for now as I need to put my money elsewhere for awhile.

That being said, I am going to a NY Day jazz jam with flute and sax in tow.

OH my we are busy little owlettes, aren't we? Chevy, I think it would be a hoot if you taught Loverly's DDs about the B&Bs. You could skype it. Or just make a video, although that would preclude a Q&A.

I saw the first Star Wars when it hit the theater, stood in line for hours and was blown away by the effects. I saw the 2nd and 3rd, but never could get into the 4-6th. Star Trek always held my fascination, even the new ones, one of which we watched this weekend. We have been amazed how they got the characters so close, you gotta think all those guys have been fans forever. That said, of course I will see the new Star Wars!

My cleaning lady is here today. She usually comes on a Monday, but the ice. She has more horror stories about her husband's medical problems. But thankfully she can't spend time talking because he has a doctor's appointment this afternoon. Of course she will talk while she works around me.

Feline, when I went to Scotland in 1994 I rented a car to drive across one island to take a ferry to another and that 40 mile drive like to killed me! The turnouts, the gear shift, the girls in the back seat screaming...

And this morning Nacho (the big dog) trying to climb up in my lap while I'm typing. And he's all bones no claws and rough pads, and I'm all scratched up. Sometimes I let him, I know since he's going deaf he needs more contact, but then I have bruises on my thighs from his elbows.

    Isn't that the sweetest face
