INSOMNIACS place to talk in the wee hours

Boyd- I had microcalcifications on my first mammo back in 1999. Because it was my baseline and there was nothing for comparison, they recommended the biopsy. They said we could wait, but knew finding out as early as possible is what makes all the difference. So they did a procedure to go in and do a biopsy on the area and it came back benign.
I had to have a surgical biopsy with that first one, because there is no way to do stereotatic for that. The later requires being able to locate a mass to do the needle. I had that one the second time (along with an MRI guided biopsy on the other side after dx).
If you need surgery, ask them how they propose to do it so you have the best information. I am not sure if there are better ways to determine if the do the microcalcifications are of concern than through surgery. The technology for biopsies has gotten much more refined and less surgical I believe.
I am glad you are getting some better information now. Do you have a follow up scheduled with anyone yet?

Okay, Boyd, read this.... Then see what your team intends to do.... If they don't get back to you, call them..... So far, it sounds pretty good! Have they talked to you about what the plan is yet?

Boyd...don't have a lot of info. 15 years ago after a mamo, the radiologist called me in the back room, showed me the slides, and she told me right there to get myself into a breast surgeon cause she said since my calcifications were " in a line" that told her it was cancer. I have no idea if that is always the case. But it was 15 years ago, to her.Have had and still having a great full wonderful life. I hesitated posting this, cause I dint want you to think yours is cancer, or upset you in any way. That's my personal story, and I didn't stay at the same hospital. The next place I went, that breast surgeon said....she saved your life....cause nothing in my tests screamed cancer. He said it was a lucky find and guess by her. So go figure.....docs certainly don't agree. They will know for sure after the biospy. I have Valium in the house for such occasions like this. Hugs your way

OK I must have missed something. When is the dinner party or has it been cancelled/rescheduled?
Loverly - I just looked. Freygea has been on but not posting. Marla has not been on in several months.
Patty - somewhere with a big tub or shower, a fireplace and of course a big luxurious bed. So glad you are feeling good.
Boyd - You can go to the Main BCO pages (go up top and click on "Breastcancer.org"). It will bring you to the informational pages with a search engine feature. Somewhere else to search. But Chevy's link of Mayo Clinic is excellent too.
Welcome back Myra. (((Big Hugzz)))

Lilgoats Lov & Susan and all, the Retsky's got in late and we had a dinner at Durango's. Perspectively, it was much better. From the first moment they walked in we were able to talk and lot's of laughing. Had a great waiter. I worried about no fussing with food. Mrs.R was good. It was an interesting lesson. If time is short, spend it the best way possible.
I had a great time, Donny too. Nice Pm from Dr. R. Good all around.

LOLSmarrty, That was the blow by blow. Donny was really sweet throughout. Dr.R and Donnie found common ground right away b/c Dr. R likes to work with his hands. They were off cross talking decks and HVAC. Mrs and I were cross talking oodles of things. One thing that we all belly laughed at and of course I was embarrassed about, Dr/R asked how many posts I do a day. I said it depends. Donny pops in and says "it all depends how much wine she's had".(considering the few hours he's home in the evening over a whole week way over stated). I looked at Mrs, and said "he has no filters" We had a laughing discussion about that. I think they enjoyed him allot. He was the most engaging ever. He and Dr. R talked fish and fishing. We all talked bikes and bike falls and head injuries. They thought the thrifted bike was a great find as they know bikes quite well. Very little medical talk. We were all over the map with topics. Dr R had described Mrs. as the talkative one of the two, he overstated that LOL, he's a talker too. She was an absolute delight. Felt like I had known them both for years. Just before we closed the restaurant. I gave them the glass. He was really interested in the history of glass and my interest. I did give them the abridged version. Mrs. laughed and said this could cause him to develop another hobby.
Two things I learned by happenstance. One I said before about doing a visit like we did at the restaurant. Wouldn't have been near as enjoyable if I was doing the dinner management. Second, by chance we sat gals and guys diagonally to each other. The cross talk was a hoot b/c gals would be talking something then the guys would pick up and then kick in and vice versa. Generally, gals are in first to a booth then the guys. We got there first and Donny popped into the booth first b/c it was big and he was trying to make it easier for me, Gals & guys directly across from each other talk directly across the table. Diagonally, conversation is crossing. Maybe it would have been the same if was the usual seating, but I don't think so. Great fun.

Every holiday, I cook so many things we will never eat! I find new recipes, try different things, set out special dinnerware, napkins, tablecloths, write the menu down, and what time and day I need everything prepared.
It is HARD! Even for only 3 of us, I really enjoy it, until I have to clean everything up.... even with help, you still have to take care of all the left-overs, pots & pans, linens, etc.
SOooooooo much nicer to have a dinner OUT somewhere!
I cooked my first big Thanksgiving Dinner 2 months after we were married.... For his whole family! I was just 20.... I'm thinking..... why did EYE do all the cooking? I think they were testing me....

Chevy, That was the truth.... an Italian family and they let you do the cooking as such a young one. new to the family...... new bride........cruel and strange. I knew lot's of Italians, none would have done that. But you showed them !............I know you didn't have an easy life with his family. Sorry. But you have had A wonderful life with him when it wasn't screwy. You knew when to say enough and make it right. He got it right b/c you were the best for him and he knew it.
The house smells wonderful did a crock pot of chicken and the spices are amazing. Breathing the smells for many hours. Maybe I should do the spices in the smaller crock pot just for the aroma. I know the little popourie pots can do the same, but they don't allow for the liquid. Somehow the liquid adds too it.

Ms.Sas, wonderful that you decided to go out rather than spending your energy and worrying about making dinner, although there is a personal touch in sharing home cooked meal. Yay to no clean up and preparations. Love down to earth people.

Myra when you get your ovaries yanked your girly parts shrink. It was noted on my scan. Not sure what that means, if anything, for the future. Also have drier skin.

Sas. Glad to hear you in a better mood. Yea ! Thanks for the recipe. Will def try it out. BTW, I got a postcard re the taste of home magazine. It's coming soon!!! Thanks dear sweet friend.
Jazzy June. Good to know you more
Myra. We all get in s funk sometimes. That's OK. Trust me, from a stage IV girl , please don't talk so lightly about progressing to stage IV. It is not a picnic. For sure. Step back and find the positive. its out there you just gotta look.
Kinda disappointed dh wasn't nearly as excited as me about valentines get away. He is worried to get excited and then have to cancel because I feel too bad. . well I am just gonna keep planning and will make reservations whenever I narrow down my choices. I can worry about cancelling or just think positively and make sure they have a cancellation policy if I call 24 hours prior to due date. Had mo appt yesterday but had to see nurse practitioner instead. Mo's neworn is in children's hospital with rsv. Scary. Nurse practitioner got mo on phone and we 3 discussed radiation. Mo very insistent that I take radiation for right hip. Very concerned about it breaking. Said hip surgery was major and major recovery. Ugh I just wanna wait and see if tx fixes it. My last pet, at end of Dec. , showed huge decrease in both number of tumours and size in allareas except hip which had progressed. So I let them make mean appt with rad dr. But still not sure I will go thru with it. Ultimately it's MY decision. Also got my Falsodex and exgeva shots yesterday. Woke up last night with sore throat and ear. It's like the 3-4 time I've had this side effect. Oh well. It could be much worse. Itwil go away in a day or so.
Happy weekend all

Peppermint.... I just know a little about hip-surgery.... Do they mean a hip-replacement for you? I didn't have that.... when I fell, I broke the femur. Could not move... Had the "successful" surgery... with a rod & a few screws.... This was almost 2 years ago. I still limp.... but don't use a cane unless it REALLY hurts.... Mine was called ORIF... And I think it IS a major surgery & recovery....
My bones are strong.... I had the Dexa scan...... Just fell "wrong" and broke the neck of my femur.... Maybe because I was/am older? But I get around just fine.... It is HARD getting over the surgery.... I made it sound "easy" for my Daughter's and Husband....
If radiation can help, would that be an alternative? I mean would it hurt anything else? I would weigh all the options.... then decide....
Keep on planning that trip! Sometimes anticipation is better than realization..... at least that's what my Mom used to say.........

momma sure are smart. At least mine was

Mine too! My kids however think they are smarter than me. (Does this change with time and perspective?)

Patty, wouldn't it be nice if your current treatment takes care of tumor in your hip also?? Does it seem like you are climbing a mountain with little energy? I agree with Ms. Chevy. You do need to weigh your options before deciding. In the meantime, have lots of fun planning your mini vacation.

Peppermint.... did you have a dexa-scan....??? It's very easy.... I'm with Loverly.... Maybe your current treatment WILL take care of your hip!
and Feline.... My grown girls just act like they can take care of me now.... Ha! They are happy that we still get around so well... are happy, and nothing wrong with us.... At least physically... They see so how things have changed so MUCH since they were growing up.... and thank us a lot, for trying to do everything right.... And keeping a close eye on us...
Loverly... You are soooooooo sweet!

thanks for the response all. I am leaning toward mo radiation. No decision being made til I talk to radiation Dr. Afraid there are just trying to get more money. Why not wait s couple months and see if tx works .
Beautiful day here. Supposed to e almost 70°. Not sure the exact temp but I don't even need a jacket. A little sunshine goes along way in positive mental health.
