Oh to smelly trees. My block has ginkgo trees. Back when I was growing up, the females bare a fruit that when it breaks open smells like vomit. The city had a window to spray the trees before the fruit started to form but if they didn't spray in time we were inundated with the fruit. What a lovely smell, not. The city finally cut all the females down and planted male trees. It was a shame because they were huge. DD2 lives in the downtown area and they have ginkgoes on her block and for several around hers. I don't like being there in the fall because the city doesn't really spray anymore. You almost have to walk on your tip toes. And woe to those who step on them and have to get in your car or into your residence. You bring that dog awful smell in with you. The nuts are edible but I can't imagine harvesting and preparing them. Here's a picture of them.

JunieB, you sounded just like my husband. Hahaha. Sometimes I do need a little nagging as I am absent minded or forgetful. I did read a few articles from the site and got theManuka honey. Trying it on Mitzy and I am making sure none get wasted. Boy, that is some expensive honey! Thanks again. Sugar is my weakness too, especially one week before menstruation.

Worked at Juvenile Hall today. Interesting place....the place lookslike it could belong in Sci-Fi movie. My first day working there and had to be buzzed in (when I first came in in the morning). Had to walk through several long hallways to get to the clinic. It was like walking through a maze.There were cameras ( eyes in the ceilings) everywhere. If security needs to talk to you, it is through echoing intercom. So sad to see so many kids on psychiatric meds. Kids as young as 10

Trying to catch up. I'll probably miss someone but something caught my eye about the allergies. I have always had them, for a few months old.i have also gone the nasal spray route, getting hooked was no fun. About 8 years ago my PCP put me on 5 mg clarinex, and it took care of about 90% of my nasal congestion. (Bonus, no bone pain from neulasta shots!) But I still have days, those high pollen days when the only thing that helps is the nasal spray. I learned how to trick my nose, since I can't stand to mouth breathe. I found as long as one side is clear enough to breathe, I was ok, so I alternate nostrils, and haven't gotten hooked again.

I'm already in bed, even though it's only 8:30. Painsomnia hit last night, didn't turn out the light until 3, trying to get sleepy enough to fall asleep. Then couldn't sleep in because Susan came to clean. Took Rose and my phone and curled up in the guest room bed. Rested, but still too noisy to sleep, even with earplugs. So I took my night meds early and trying to get sleepy.
So, pear trees! We have Bradford pears here, non-bearing, and in full bloom now, like a bridal train lining the streets. Mile after mile, in the city and along the turnpike. Here's mine in my front yard.

Chevy - Awww! What a cute pic of you and your hubby. Wow, 60 years, that is so wonderful.
Kath - I had never seen a ginkgo fruit, plus I didn't know that they smell so awful. Yuck! Why in the world would anyone plant trees that smell like urine or vomit? They can't possibly be so pretty that it could over-ride their odor.
On another yucky note, I had a rather funny experience today. Well it was funny after I got cleaned up. I took the bus to do an errand, got off and crossed the street. Just as I stepped onto the sidewalk I felt a plop & splatter. I look down and what do I see? Bird poop all down the front of my coat, the left sleeve and my left hand, then later a big glop on my eyeglasses. I'll tell you wildlife just have NO manners.
Oh well, not the worst thing to happen I guess. One friend told me that to some people that is a sign of good luck. I responded with "Yeah, whatever" LOL.mags - That is a pretty tree.

Thanks again Feline! And Susan.... Glennie... WTH?? I don't know how to do it any other way... Go find one of the other gals, and they can show it to you... Ha! No big deal anyway... just a BIG difference from then to now...but that picture always makes me smile... takes me right back to that day.
Smarty, those pear trees really have a pretty shape... I know Juniper bushes remind me of that smell also.... We have a BIG Box Elder tree in our front, and that giant Colo. Blue Spruce... It's over 100 years old now, and I guess it's "pretty"... but not as much as the fuller Spruce trees I've seen around... but it's staying as long as we are.... Ha! I can't get a Hibiscus to grow around here... but my folks in Richmond had beautiful ones.... EVERYthing grows in California.

Kath, I've never seen a ginkgo tree! And so there were all these little male trees, running around looking for those female trees, and not a one in sight?
Loverly! Are you a little spy? An under-cover agent? Or do you volunteer with those little kids?
A bunch of us from Coors took a lot of bedding, clothing etc. to this "shelter" for children from about 6 to 18... They shared rooms, and we were given a tour, and were told a few stories of how they came to be there... Some were abandoned, abused, and so many lousy stories about these kids... Geez, I thought about those kids for a long time...
We later took other stuff over there for them to use... Busses took them to their schools, and they had a nice little dining room... but wow.... it kind of breaks your heart to see these kids that were just "floating" through their lives... I couldn't volunteer there.... or a pet shelter.... I would have them all home with me.
Mags, I KNOW! It's so EASY to depend on nasal sprays! Even the OTC ones! I'm okay now, but a few times, especially with asthma, you have to almost sit up in bed, or a recliner to sleep! And thanks for the compliments, Ha!

Mags that was masterful about Afrin. Greg was addicted to it, so I have avoided it's use. Nice alternative use. Cool.
Encouraged by the words re:Clarinex. Stopped and bought Clarinex, saline and Afrin today.
Anyone with skin sensitivities, I highly recommend Cetaphil. Started using it when I developed skin issues. I use it from face to feet. Try applying before the skin dry's after a shower.

Meadow, You were here when FierceBluebird was on the boards. She was/is dearly loved here. The bluebird in the box is for her. Her farm was named Blue Bird Farms. Your family home sounds lovely. Pics? My lifetime schtick was nursing and teaching. Cardiology, OR, ER, Paramedics, Med/Surg, Specials, Recovery, Employee health, homecare, radiology. Enough ICU that they didn't cringe when I was floated in. Essentially no peds, and no dialysis. Loved nursery when I was in school. Nursing was great for being able to move around or to add new skill areas. Didn't become certified to deliver oncology drugs. Took care of oncology patients as they are considered medical patients. Certification was required to do the drugs.

. After the last discussion on food a few weeks back, I went to the net. Sheesh, to buy what is recommended would cost me a fortune with the two(75-80 lbs). But my concern is that they run from 1.6- 3 miles a day. They are both trim and coats are wonderful. The food from Aldi's is all grains. Worried with all the energy use that long term use could harm them. The vet school at University of Florida is very responsive to questions. It will be interesting if they can give us some guidance.Chevy, I love your pic of you and G every time you post it. You guys mad a really cool couple.
Zills remind me if I forget. Found some great articles on metformin/ Glucophage for weight loss. The plant that the drug comes from has been used for hundreds(thousands) of years. The modern day research started in the 1920's, If insulin hadn't been discovered it likely would have been the go to drug for type2 diabetes. But since type2 wasn't well understood it got put on the shelf until the 50's. The articles will describe it's effect on nondiabetics. Plus, it is from a separate plant than the other drugs in the class. Metformin was wrongly blamed for side effects of those other two drugs.

Sas - have you ever tried any products with argon oil. I have issues with my scalp and skin and switched to a shampoo by Kiss My Face called "Whenever". It has green tea, lime juice, argon oil and I forget the rest. Plus there are soaps with argon oil in them as well. There is also another product my a company called Avalon that makes a CoQ10 face wash. It is very creamy, and none drying.
Is the Clarinex non-drowsey?

Mags catching up with two browsers open. Looking at your HA Apple Orchard again. It's a very beautiful set. The detail in the apple blossom is exquisite. It really pops on the white surface. Always amazes me what they could do with glass. Will get those pics posted soon. Hope I can get as good ones as you did.

Ginger, the Shirley Temple Hazel Atlas glass can be found on Ebay and replacements.com. Ebay pricing is very erratic, watch it a bit it to get a feel for it OR grab it if the price is cheap. I'll take a look too. Cobalt is always more, but it can be had cheap too. If you did get the creamer and sugar would you use the picture?
Susan, Thanks for asking about the shoulder. Much improvement, but bad enough I made an ortho appointment. Took me 4 weeks to given in, appointment is April 1st. Taking pain med almost daily. My TMJ gets really tight when I'm in pain. So, when I notice it being wound like a propeller with a rubber band and my teeth are clenching, I think to take the pain med. I have the 16th on my calendar.

Also, I was married for 38 years to Greg, one son who recently became engaged to a wonderful girl. BF of 3 1/2 years is Donnie. My new analogy about him is he was a piece of coal with potential. Now's he's almost close to a beautiful diamond.

HI1, Loverly, and Smarrty-------I've been under a rock. Never knew about the awful smelling trees. Urine and vomit, UGH. Bad enough a city sprayed and then spent the money to cut trees down and replace them. Must have been adaptive to prevent birds & bats from eating the fruit. Inl-aws had a dark cherry tree that the birds would get drunk on the fruit. Funniest thing to watch them.
Do insects avoid the fruit too?

Smarrty, second day here in 1992, saw a snake dead in the road. It was at least 7-8 feet long. Non native , but didn't know that then. UGH where did I come too. Silk spiders, spiders that almost looked like tranatulas, huge huge grasshoppers, buzzards all over the place. alligators in local ponds and under cars. Ohio where were you.

the acupunturist was recommended by a friend. I like her. She help yesterday with stiff neck that started Saturday. That's almost back to normal. Suppose to go tomorrow but now maybe not. Mom had some kind of episode last night and my sister spent the night with her. Probably will go over today and sit with her. She turned 90 on Sunday.
Sassy, maybe you should check one out for your shoulder. Can't hurt.

Smarrty, hope Mum's doing okay.......Promise not to do the 20 question thing. In an event, at the minimum, try to get a BP and take a manual(hands on) pulse. The reams of info those two actions can give is unbelievable. Maybe, I'll write something today on Pain and Other Things. I have old posts, but none come to mind as to where they are. The minimum action is to get them flat. Sequence, flat first, then vital signs. Hugs, such a worry

sassy, my DS did all those things. BP is good, no signs of stroke, pulse ok. She said her eye feels weird. She has a DNR and stubborn, probably won't go to the doc. I just hope she goes in her sleep.
Ask your friends for recommendations, it's not cheap. Here it's $65 per appointment. I figure one more time and I should be good.

Ladies, the clarinex I take is prescription, 5 mg, just started getting generic last year. Desloratidine. I don't know about the OTC version. Hubby uses Flonase and Zyrtec.
Finally got a little sleep last night, took an extra muscle relaxer around midnight. Just stayed in bed this morning, DC brought me some oatmeal in bed. Eyes leaking, I hate that, mo says it's from the taxotere. Rainy, thunderstorms today. Listening to some nice jazz.0 -

On my scalp I have seborrheic dermatitis, and like I said before the shampoo has green tea, lime juice, argon oil, aloe vera juice and many other botanicals. I've been using it for about a year. Plus it doesn't have any SLS (sodium laureth sulfate) or parabens, etc. which can be drying to the skin.
On my face I've had some eczema issues and was using an organic soap w/ shea butter, but it was too drying, so I've switched to the "Avalon Organics CoQ10 Repair Facial Cleansing Milk" and it is working well so far.

Marriage not an option b/c of money. Each day is better than the last. So, please, keep us in your prayers. He's 54, I'm 62. Good looking in a rough cowboy sort of way. He was definitely a diamond in the rough. Long shoulder length hair, always looked like he needed a scrub b/c he's in a job that there's alot of dirt, a rough beard, Harry Potter hair(in the books Harry's hair is always askew). New man once I convinced him of the importance of the way he looks. Reinforcement helps. He's gotten soooo many compliments(men and women) on his new look and the way women look at him now. He's like a kid "Did you see how many women were looking at me". I said "How can you tell". He "Cuz I stared them down" LOL. Some would be threatened by that, but I'm not. Effect on me: depression-- gone, I'm cooking rather than opening a can of cold beans, going out rather than cocooning, fixing myself up, decorating the house to the nines which I haven't since before BC (09), I'm back to laughing allot, the unsaid is great too, LOL. Life is short, not going to miss this opportunity too be happy. Whatever may happen in the future that may be negative will not rob me of this present joy. Screw BC. sassy

Top plate very heavy leaded glass. Probably Polish or Chezch. $4. The stems are iridescent. !2 pieces for 10$. Very delicate. The previous post shows iridescence better than I have. The next plate is Silver overlay, done with Rhodium (better than silver, doesn't tarnish).The last two are the same plate. Only when the plate has light reflected from above on a white surface does the pattern show well. 3$. The pic doesn't do bad. But the pattern looks three dimensional on the white surface. With no light you can't see the pattern. I'm officially drowning in glass. No more places to hide it.
