Earlier I posted the stickman figure of Donnie and then I went to get the wound care thread for Wenchie. When I got back the stickman figure was gone. I figured I didn't wait long enough before I moved. I just went to the wound care thread to get it for someone else. I found the stickman post on the wound care thread.
I had a long missive to Retsky the other day. When he wrote back my message to him said "Bump". No idea where my message to him is.

Goats I'm not a fan of PPI's/PPB's. They are trouble drugs. Nasty long term consequences. Worst is osteoporosis. I had to work on my brother for a couple of years. I wrote him an email when he was getting worked up for heart sx.. I'll bring it here. It's very formal. He's a big brother. Had to make it sound official. He's off them now.

With the major surgery that you will be having, consideration of the PPI as a potential contributor to surgical complications is a concern. This article nicely addresses the major problems associated with PPI's. There is much in the literature addressing the same problems identified in this one article. These problems are also identified in the drugs monograph.
If you decide to pursue a change in Prevacid use after studying, discontinuation of a PPI should be done by weaning over 3 weeks. PPI's were never meant for long term use. Consideration of switching to an H2 blocker in the near future is important. This would allow for the bodies adjustment without undue direct and indirect side effects. If this were attempted during the surgical phase it will just be a problem as the gastric cells are regenerating and the gastric environment is coming back into equilibrium.
I will review Medscape for a similar study on H2 blockers and hopefully identify the least problematic drug of the class. At this time Pepcid is in the forefront, but I will be looking at the class with particular interest related to your scenario.
Use of a PPI or H2 blocker in the operative period and postop has been the standard of care since the 80's. This occurred because of the recognition of the Surgical Stress Response. This response involves many body systems. Without getting into a dissertation, gastric ulcers are a problem during this time. Hence, the use of PPI's and H2 blockers. My goal is that you become knowledgeable enough to say to your docs that you want an H2 blocker because of the reduced risk of complications over a PPI.
I will forward information on H2 blockers when I find them.

JunieB, how big is your pocket? Taking a ride with you to the OR to make sure the surgeon doesn't give you unnecessary appendage. Please keep us updated. Will be praying that our Maker will be there to guide the hands of the surgeon and allow your body to heal quickly without any complications.

Run Donnie, Run!
Up at 6 a.m. to go with DS for gallbladder ultrasound. The tech was good and scanned DS on both sides, all around front to back. PCP should have results tomorrow hopefully. I had to get blood drawn after so we both had been fasting. We gorged on a huge breakfast at the Waffle House afterwards. Yummy, and even though we both regretted it later it was sooo worth it!
I am totally wiped out. Hate being awake at "bedtime". I was so tired I almost forgot.....
I know it's not morning anymore, but Loverly's Wacky Wednesday is the bestest thing ever!
Loverly - How kind of you to share your soldier boys with Smaarty. Will their convoy escort you on your ride home tomorrow? Glad you are the one doing the driving. Is your DH as bad as my FFH? He seems to do everything possible to distract him from the fact he is driving......he texts, surfs the internet, talks THIS LOUD on the phone while taking notes, changes lanes at the last minute and eats using both hands while steering with his knees. And he does drive fast too. Send me those boys when your done with them! I'll ride with them in one of those armored vehicles

Shep A-plus for the pictures you post. My dog is doing a little better, no more blood, stools so so, but he was vomiting again in the wee hours last night. We went for a day trip last week to a national park outside the city. We took him and our daughter and they both enjoyed it.
Loverly the running stickman is quite funny and Sas the lighter would look strange in his pocket

Your poor little doggie! Pumpkin and mashed sweet potatoes are both good to ease a sick tummy. Marti and Pris Kitty loose their minds when it's "pumpkie" time - they love it! In the morning and again at bedtime Marti gets 2 or 3 tablespoons and Pris gets 1 - they come and get me if they think I am late with their "treat". I looked up Hoopla and Overdrive - WOW! Free books and movies to borrow.....Awesome! My library card is wicked old and doesn't have a pin number. I'm going to get a new one asap, so exciting!

Well it's 1:30 a.m. right now and thought I'd do one last check-in before sx later today. I check into hospital at 1:00 p.m. and sx is at 3:00. Rather late in the day for me but it is what it is.I prefer the doctor be well rested when he cuts on me.
Wenchi - I'll be thinking of you on the 16th, right?
Smaarty - Great suggestion about the Versed. I hadn't thought about that. I'm already going to decline the spinal block.
Yowzers! Loverly & Shep - Certainly wouldn't be able to maintain composure with doc's looking like that. Keep in mind the hospital I'm going to is a teaching hospital, so lots of residents.
I think the most embarrassing part is when they insert the Foley Cath. Prefer to be asleep for that.

Shep you give your babies pumpkin everyday? My Schatzi poops about 4-5 times a day. No problems. Dini a couple with no problems. They eat the same food. Weights are good and coats are great. No other problems. What benefit will I give them if I use pumpkin. We studied pumpkin on the constipation thread. But anymore I study something and much of it flies away. Effects of tramadol on short term memory. I could go back and study it, but you are right here
Seems to me it has lots of nutrients and that overall it's a great food. I remember thinking what a waste to only think of it for Thanksgiving. Your surgery is when? When does DS get his results?Lookie, sorry your baby is feeling poorly. Thanks goodness we have Shep. That's comforting.
Wenchie, Hahahahaaaa, He had a great laugh yesterday when I told him I figured out a solution for his lighter thievery. I tried to show him the stick figures, but he has trouble staying still that long. That proton pump blocker thing wasn't for you. Someone asked about PPB's awhile ago. I hadn't stored the post. JunieB ~ The great thing about a teaching hospital is that all the "kids" have a tremendous thirst for learning and desire to please. They pay extra close attention to everything. You will be in many good hands
And with the cath you won't have to worry about using a strange yucky loo! In your pocket and pinky-promise to behave. Loverly will keep me in line! Keeping you close in my thoughts and prayers

Sas ~ I do give the babies pumpkin daily. Marti gets constipated from her meds and it hurts her hips and knees to strain. Pris has long fur and won't stay out of the dog's food so the pumpkin is a furball and digestive preventative. Giving them Benefiber would have the same benefits but is harder to measure out for them and get them to eat. They are fussy. Pumpkin they'll eat plain. Sweet potatoes must have brown sugar and butter. You would think I was serving salmon and sirloin - they get sooo worked up! Still have not gotten a surgery date for me. RO had told me it may take a few days to line up to get the team, equipment and OR he wanted. It's been a week though...... DS should get his test results today or tomorrow. Makes no sense to me why it takes so long. Especially since the scans were read yesterday afternoon. PCP and imagining center are not in the same place but are only a few miles apart. My cancer docs and tests are spread out over several buildings - not all of them real close. Most of my results I get the same day. Probably because all is part of the same hospital. Just hate waiting........ And what's this about Tramadol and short term memory? Ack!!!
FFH is not being so fart faced today. He sent me this video clip this morning. Very funny - Love Tom Hanks!

Shep, (most) Anything that affects/effects brain chemistry can affect/effect short term memory. Some drugs are more known for it than others .i.e. the benzo's. For me they most do. Bummer. Even when I was disabled b/c of my brain function, my memory was @ 88%. Which was 30% above norm. Yet, one of my complaints was memory................Thanks re: your assessment of pumpkin. So, nice to have our own animal resource person.

Shep, Junie, and Wenchi in the topic box of Warm & Fuzzies I have lot's of connecting links to other threads that are very relaxing like GMA Foley's thread, to funny like YKYACPW, or visual like W&F's. I gathered many for the very reason you need them now. Most of the threads are easy reads or don't require much thought. Nice for down time like surgery recovery.

Hi Tang Love you. Hang in for a few days. Also, I need some help on W&F's. I usually start with keyword "Funny" and then add whatever pops in my head or I'm looking at. Never ceases to amaze me what the results are.
Who would think funny crystals would direct me to some of the most awesome pics. AND funny mattresses...go figure. It's all there.

Shep I could only get him to eat the pumpkin when it was hidden under chicken breast. It sometimes works when I pretend to eat it, but he didn't fall for that either. How much should a 25 lb dog be fed? I make his dog food- lean meat, rice and a vegetable.

Lookie ~ How about skinless chicken and rice? No veggies. That would be nice and bland for his tummy. Is he drinking enough water and pooping/peeing okay? Any more vomiting? Pumpkin slightly warmed up is more attractive sometimes. One big tablespoon 2x daily would be good. You could mix it in with the chicken and rice maybe. I have always been a free feeder, not a measurer. If weight looks good and the critters seem healthy I don't worry. It is harder with our older doggies to judge sometimes. They never complain if they are feeling bad

We got home a few hours ago from Southern California. I drove the last six hours after DH got us out of LA traffic. Eight hours plus drive total . More than half of the trip was with miles and miles of flat dry land
I'm so grateful I don't have to drive for a living. Don't know how those truckers do it. The kids had so much fun spending time with their cousins. Their favorite activity was boogie boarding . I much prefer the beaches in Hawaii or Southeast Asia- the water is nice and warm. Glad to be home. Nothing like sleeping in your own bed. ShepK, your DH and mine probably graduated from the same driving school. I often have to remind him that when he is behind the wheel,he doesn't need to turn his head 45 degrees to the right to look at me when we talk.
