Yikes Spookie, thinking of you. Keep watching the weather closely and it it seems prudent, really consider evacuation. Fingers crossed it won't come to that!

Rapture? I have a vague idea of what that refers to but hope that someone can explain the idea in detail.

September 25, 2022? Not only was it my 66th birthday but it was erev Rosh Hashanah ✡️. Shana Tova, have a happy sweet New Year.

Ah, my bad--thought William & Stephen were both conservative & Evangelical. William's married to Chynna Phillips (who, on Celebrity Family Feud, chanted--and danced to--"Holy Spirit, activate, activate" before answering the final round questions).

Happy birthday, Caryn--and Shana Tovah to all here who are celebrating.

The "Rapture," according to End Times prophecies based on Revelation (which came from a dream John the Revelator had when he fell asleep by the roadside, after breaking bread with people to whom he was trying to proselytize--which bread may have been moldy & tainted with ergot, hence the "dream" having been possibly a hallucination) is supposed to occur after Armageddon--at which time all believing Christians will be "raptured" physically up to Heaven while the rest of us will remain on Earth and presumably burn. ("Rapture" as from the same root as "raptor," referring to being snatched up and carried away). I've seen a few bumper stickers in response to those proclaiming "Warning--in case of Rapture this car will be unmanned" replying "In case of Rapture, can I have your car?"

chisandy, in agreement about "can I have the car" especially if it is a luxury model and not a clunker.

I think the bumper sticker on that car is past due, so does that mean like other items marked with discard or don't use after x date, you dispose of it or face potential harm from the product? Wonder how that works in regard to "Rapture" bumper stickers?

Thinking of all of you in the path of hurricanes.

B-A-P : Atlantic Canada got hammered. Are you okay?

exbrnxgrl: Happy Birthday and a very Happy New Year!!

Well the Rapture was a dud on the 25th, wasn't it? It reminded me that my DH, my best friend and I would get wind of "the End Is Nigh" which occurred with surprising frequency and we seized upon the idea to go out and have a last dinner of something we thought we'd never eat. I have to add this was around1975, I am more open now about food anyway but maybe that was the beginning. We ate escargot. Tasted like garlic butter and was chewy. Sashimi. Holy Tuna -- why did I ever thing raw fish was revolting? Then there were no End Is Nigh (I didn't see all the suicidal cults that came later) There was a Russian guru/cult leader who announced everyone should gather in Red Square for the end of the world. I recall this one because of the hilarious newspaper heading END OF THE WORLD CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF INTEREST., Seems no one showed up.

The license plate "Trust In God" --- Why not just have "Under His Eye" and be done with it?

....at my age I would be a Martha. I can cook and clean and look okay in drab colours with my hair in a scarf.

I'm up here in the social democratic country of Canada and I am terrified about the results of your midterms. How can it be that Walker is neck to neck with Warnock? In what other universe could that happen ?

I really must come back more frequently. I love the memes.

Thinkking of anyone ( Canada or Fla. or anyplace where storms have been or are on the way ) and hoping it works out better than anyone thinks.

I hope you show up more often as well Elderberry. Your ' Rapture ' rant was hilarious. I have never really bought into the Rapture. Too use to figuring out how to transport myself I guess. Just too far a stretch to think a fancy ride will come along and ferry me around. That said, I have enjoyed a couple of limosine rides. I've avoided most of the news today but plan to catch Rachel in five mins.

    From Huffington Post:

Republican Senate candidate Mehmet Oz may have given Democratic rival John Fetterman yet another unintentional gift ― this time with a supposed insult that sounds more like a compliment, especially in Pennsylvania.

Fetterman, Pennsylvania's lieutenant governor, often wears a hoodie ― something Oz seems to find unacceptable, albeit for a curious reason.

"When he dresses like that, it's not an accident," Oz said on the "Ruthless" podcast last week. "He's kicking authority in the balls. He's saying, 'I'm the man. I'll show those guys who's boss.'"

The comments were shared on Twitter by PatriotTakes, which monitors right-wing media:

Oz and his team have committed a series of unforced errors throughout the campaign, such as a video of Oz griping about the high price of "crudité" while botching the name of a beloved regional supermarket chain.

"In PA we call this a ... veggie tray," Fetterman fired back on Twitter.

After Fetterman suffered a stroke earlier this year, Oz, a doctor who used to host a TV show, made a campaign issue of his health ― and one campaign aide openly mocked Fetterman for it, which likewise backfired.

Now he's accusing Fetterman of "kicking authority in the balls," something critics noted might be exactly what voters want... especially in hardscrabble Pennsylvania.

Here's a couple of the tweets:

Oz again shows that he is not from Pennsylvania. I mean, if you advertised an event where Philadelphians were given the opportunity to "Come kick authority in the balls." there would be a line 6 miles long before the first kick was landed."

"At this point @JohnFetterman might at well take a break and let Oz run his campaign for a while. "Kicking authority in the balls" may well be the greatest campaign slogan ever."

"Oz I'm already supporting @JohnFetterman you don't have to help!"

Being a Pennsylvanian there are multiple reasons not to vote for Oz starting with he is not a resident of the state because he boards with his in-laws and the home he purchased requires "renovations" yet not one contractor has been seen at the house. Second, would be he is a snake oil salesman of the first order with all the phony diet supplements he tried to sell and why the AMA has not lifted his license is a question that requires an answer. Third, his questionable medical practices were addressed by Congress and yet he still has a license to practice. He owns stock in companies that produce hydroxychloroquinine so do I need to provide more responses. I am all for Fetterman who Oz is trying to smear with so many untruths and I would say Oz is the best campaign manager for Fetterman since he keeps opening his mouth to change feet and prove how unfit he is for the job. We are finally getting rid of that elitist, do nothing Toomey and we need representation that will actually do the job of representing the wishes of the populace and not the GOP. Go Fetterman.

So with you on Oz. He got his big intro from Oprah Winfrey and may even have had at first a few decent thoughts and ideas. Just like televangelists, after the first big hurrah it becomes the everlasting moneyh making scheme and whatever value may have been there is right out the window. Oz has many, many books to go along with his paycheck from the tv shows.

I fell for it and bought a couple of his books and then realized -- they basically were interchangeable. Subject didn't much matter if you can talk in flim-flameze which he does quite well. Doesn't work for politics since you need to know something about what your talking about and Oz is not schooled at all in politics and worse yet when you go outside your own state. A total joke who ( like Orange Loon ) can't make it on t.v. anymore. Greedy and self-serving come to mind about Oz and the Loon. So many of this ilk don't have any idea on the philsophy of quitting while your ahead less it be found that you are really far behind.
