How could I ever have foreseen...that I'd be here at year eighteen?!

edited April 28 in Stage III Breast Cancer

Checking in on my survivor sisters with my traditional cancerversary post. I remember how much it used to help me when I saw posts from Stage III-ers who were WAY out from diagnosis (and there weren't as many back then),

Here's wishing you HOPE, which is one of the most important things we have in our toolbox!

Hugs to all - Julie

Congratulations Julie. Always great to hear from long term survivors, even for people like me, who never thought I’d reach 7 years post diagnosis. Long may life continue! ❤️

Hi, Julie, nice to "see" you after all these years. I do remember how hopeful I felt reading your posts when I was first diagnosed. Thank you. In October it will be 13 years for me, and now I have many days when I don't give breast cancer a single thought. It's a tiny mouse in the corner of my living room that squeaks from time to time, instead of the elephant stomping around wrecking furniture that it was in 2011! Blessings—SB

sbelizabeth - good to "see" you too! Never thought we'd prefer mice to elephants 😁 Life is full of surprises, right?

    Hugs, Julie

Thank you so much for your messages of hope. The elephant is still there for me since I'm only two years out but with a grade 3 I am pretty happy regardless since I know that the two year mark means something with grade 3's. Either way though I look forward to that elephant leaving to be replaced by the mouse :)

hey @kaynotrealname, I hadn’t heard about the two year / grade 3 thing before. That’s interesting. can you tell me more?

"Grade 3 breast cancer has a high risk of recurrence, and the risk is highest in the first few years after treatment. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology found that the rate of recurrence for all breast cancers is highest in the first five years after diagnosis, with the risk being highest between the first and second years."

Kay, do you have a link for this article? One thing I will say about grade 3 is that grade 3 responds to chemo very well.

Don't have a specific link for that one but here's one that says relatively the same thing - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5327605/#:~:text=There%20was%20a%20significant%20correlation%20between%20histological,early%20recurrence%20compared%20to%20very%20late%20recurrence.
