Kim - I hear you. I think I remember you telling this a few years ago. I thought you were just talking about age, but we all need to do what is best for us. Your logic is more than sound. The older I get, I think what treatments would I want to endure. Hopefully I won't have to make any such decisions any time soon. Two cancers has been more than plenty. I'm so grateful to have 18+ years thriving post BC Dx.

This time, GI doc gave DH pills to take instead of drinking the prep - I'm not sure this will be easier. He starts at 6:00pm and has to take 12 pills - one at a time every 1 or 2 minutes with a sip of water. Then he repeats at 11:00pm

Going to buy my new cell phone and iPad today. Getting an iPad instead of a new computer. It is lighter when traveling and much less costly. I was going to go Friday but I was too stressed and couldn't deal with it. Long story - I needed to find out if I could my phone with another e-Sim in other countries. The answer turned out to be yes - it is mostly for Israel. I have an Israel micro-sim card that I use when I'm there with my Israel phone number. eSims change everything, but iPhones can take up to two and will work with foreign eSims.

Need to figure out what I need to do today to get ready for work tomorrow. I didn't do any of the paperwork that I thought I would. I do really need to get caught up. Maybe I'll get motivated to a little this afternoon.

Kim - what a treat to find wine that you didn't know you had. I haven't been drinking wine lately - sometimes a beer or a shot of single malt scotch.

    Have a great Sunday

Got some of the Christmas decorations up, still have a few Fall decorations outside to take down and put up the rest of the Christmas ones up. Still getting snow showers from that system that’s really walloping the U.P. of MI and the eastern Great Lakes region.

Well bartending on thanksgiving was fun, thank you everyone for your great advice. I made a series of small tipples for folks, the winners were Brandy with chocolate bitters and bourbon with blackberry liquor and lemonade. Went to Macys today for more neat glasses lol.. since no one wanted anything in ice ! Hope you all are staying warm and are still enjoying the after glow of the holiday.

NM - I've had polyps removed with colonoscopies several times - but was given a pass for 5 years the last time. When I went in this year, she said she didn't want to do one since the risk of tearing is worse at my age than colon cancer. (Yup - I'm 80 so older than most of you).

Karen - totally agree about the stores. If I can't find it on line - I don't need it. The one exception is the first time I buy a style of shoes. But once I find one that fits, I can order more on line.

    Hi to everyone else.

"Your Dad sounds a bit like my Mom several years ago.... If I may ask, how old is your Dad? "

My Dad is 84. He's still very mentally strong and capable - he volunteers at the science and nature museum and writes a weekly science blog. But he is starting to not think far beyond his immediate circumstances. Today we were meeting for lunch at a restaurant. It's small and popular, but we were shooting for after the peak of the lunch rush. They don't take reservations, but they do have a wait list. DH was having some post-Thanksgiving issues, so we were running a few minutes late. I texted Dad to let him know that we were running behind. We got there just 5 minutes later than planned and saw Dad at the door. After the greetings, I asked if he had gotten us on the wait list. "Well, I wasn't sure how long you would be." My text did not include a new time to expect us, just saying we were running a little bit behind.

So we got on the list, and it was a projected 25 minute wait. Dad then pointed to a sign that said they don't seat incomplete parties. I said, "Yes, that's for seating, not getting on the wait list. And if the party comes up on the list and isn't complete, they just skip over you until the party is complete." Dad just shrugged. I asked that going forward if he gets there before us to please go ahead and get us on the list, because we know there is almost always a wait. We'll see.

We're back home after the Thanksgiving road trip. DH is making old-fashioneds with Woodford Reserve bourbon, cherries and orange slices. It is soooo wonderful to be home and relaxing with a cocktail. It's cold enough to turn on the fireplace. Cheers!!!

Carole, in Wisconsin an Old Fashioned is usually made with Brandy

Carole - glad you're safely home. m0mmy - I'll have to tell my nephew about the Brandy Old Fashioned. He drinks Old Fashioneds because his mother did.

Woke up this morning with no hot water. Luckily my ex-DH was able to come up and re-lite the pilot light. Can't imagine how it went out but hope it's the only issue.

    Oh boy!

Well hubby has caught his first cold of the season. Got it from someone at work. So I told him stay home today and rest as much as he can.

We forget how miserable a cold can cause you to feel until we get one.

I like to sip a good brandy or cognac. You can substitute the bourbon in an Old Fashioned with different liquors. Rye whiskey is good.

Good Morning, Loungettes!  Happy Twofer Tuesday. Cold here with wind and snow changing to rain coming in tomorrow evening through Thursday. Sounds like it's going to be yucky. I spent the day with Mom yesterday, put wreathes on Dad's and Gram's graves, got her tree, she got some shopping done at the Dollar General. She did not get one thing on her list but came out with a whole lot of stuff! And we made it home before dark. We even had a nice lunch at a local restaraunt that is known for It's pies. My food was very good, but Mom is still saying that most foods don't taste good, or don't taste right. That started while she was in the hospital. Speaking of the hospital, I got a letter in response to the complaint I made with the hospital about Mom's care. It basically says that they could not have predicted that she would develop pancratitis within hours of being discharged, that her discharge was appropriate, and attempts were made to communicate with me but since I was not always at the hospital and Mom was signing her own consents, they had no obligation to communicate with me. No mention of the face-to-face meeting I requested. I also filed a complaint directly with Medicare's quality control board, who will review the records once the hospital sends them. Then they'll be reviewed by an independent doctor, and I hope that doc will have the same opinion as Mom's PCP, who read the summary sent to her and was appalled.  Not that anything will really happen to the hospital other than the minor annoyance of having to respond to the records request and knowing the complaint is on file with Medicare.

Karen—I hope you never have to make any decisions about cancer treatments every again, and I hope I never have to, either. Wow, 18 years of thriving is wonderful! The pill prep your DH got sounds like it would be a lot easier than drinking and throwing up 2 gallons of Miralax mixed in Gatorade! I think you will love the iPad. I love mine, If you plan to use it for things that require putting in a lot of information I recommend getting a portable keyboard to go with it. I find using a keyboard a lot easier than tapping on the letters on the screen keyboard. Glad ot hear you got the phone/travel/sim card thing worked out.

MOmmy—How much snow have you gotten so far?

Richaller—glad to  hear the bartending went well!  Care to share the recipes? Both drinks sound really good!

Minus—I wasn't aware of the risk of tearing, but it makes sense. And as it takes polyps 10 years or so to become cancerous, any they find now may not present much of a risk anyway. I did have some polyps removed 2 colonoscopies ago, but none were found on the last one.

Miriandra—that scenario with your Dad sounds terribly familiar. Hopefully he'll do as well as Mom has and stay pretty independent for many more years. Mom's cognitive ability, especially her short term memory, has notably declined since being hospitalized, but she's still able to take care of herself and her apartment pretty well.

    Jazzy—Happy December, indeed!

MOmmy—Hooray for a Big Fat Nothing scan!!!!!

Mallee—I'll join you for that celebratory drink!

Carole—ah, the joys of a fireplace! Welcome home!

Minus—Yikes! No hot water is a bit of a problem!  Glad it was easily fixed!

MOmmy—I hope DH is feeling better soon!

@nativemainer, I wish you good luck with the review of the hospital treatment of your mother. The worst experience I had was when a nurse at a small country hospital told me I had bad indigestion and when I told her that I never get indigestion her response was along the lines of - "then you wouldn't know what it feels like, then". Bear in mind that I couldn't stand up straight I was in so much pain. 90 minutes later my appendix burst.

Kailua - so good. Did I see that Stoli vodka in USA had died for bankruptcy?

When we have gotten snow it’s a trace to an inch, doesn’t stay for long. Getting more tonight but forecasted to not amount to much.

  • wallycat
    wallycat Member Posts: 1,453

I'm so envious of all those getting snow. May not see any this year…if we do, like Mommyof3, it melts in less than a day.

NM, I feel your pain on the hospital and navigating that. DH was discharged with incorrect info. I caught it and called them…they tried to avoid my call till I threatened Malpractice. I'm sure not much happened. I feel badly that other patients may not have caught an error like this. Your mom is fortunate to have you as her advocate.

We see DHs onco tomorrow…so far, all the news is mediocre for his issues. Would be nice to get a few months of coasting with his treatments.

Petite sirah from Bogle, tonight. YUM.

Good Morning, Loungettes!  Happy Hump Day!  WE've got a lovely sunny ayem going on, the calm before the storm. The weather guessers are predicting 2 to 4 inches of snow, now they are not talking about changing over to rain. I guess we'll have to see what happens. I"ve got to admit that it's really nice to be able to check out the weather reports of incoming storms and know that I don'thave to go out and drive in the stuff anymore.

Mallee—I can't believe that nurse said that to you! But given my recent experiences, I guess I should. I did take great pleasure in filling out the hospital's Press-Ganey survey knowing exactly how to answer the key questions to give the lowest possible rating. I'm resigned to not getting a face-to-face meeting with anyone who can truly make a difference, or getting a real apologyI hope you recovered quickly from the burst appendix, that can be absolutely horrible to go through from what I've heard. Stoli companies in the US have filed for bankruptcy after getting hit by a ransomware attack.

MOmmy—a trace to an inch of snow sounds pretty good. I've got about 4 inches in the yard. At least it's cleared off the roads pretty quickly.

Wally—It I frustrating how hospitals are protected from being held accountable for how they treat people. You'd think with Medicare's big push toward "patient centered" and "quality care measures" that something like that would generate more than a letter stating "the information has been relayed to the department heads and will be reviewed."  But then, that would be expecting a logical response from the health care system, and that would be so rare as to qualify as a miracle. Praying for some good news at DH's onc appointment.

    Frustration Drink

    1 oz Cherry Liqueur

    3 oz Pineapple juice

    3 oz sour mix

    1 oz Triple SEc

    1 oz Citron Vodka

    DIRECTIONS

Mix cherry brandy, triple sec, & Citron in shaker with ice. Then add 50/50 pinapple juice and sour mix then splash of orange juice. Shake then pour in a 16 oz glass with ice. Last rim with Grenadine...drink. In a while all your FRUSTRATIONS are washed away

I just saw the CEO of United Health Care was shot and killed by a lone gunman. My bet is he’s a patient or family member who was denied a treatment.

Investigators say they've narrowed the list of suspects to approximately 21 million individuals. 😝

Good Morning, Loungette!  Happy Thirsty Thursday! Waking up to a new coating of wet, white stuff.  It can't decide if it wants to be snow or rain. The temp is hovering at 31 to 33 degrees. Fortunately no injuries being reported. A couple of bigger accidents have happened, so far all have been checked out by ambulance crews with no transports. I am so glad to not be working today, I would be expected to be out in this crap.Even the puppers went out and came right straight back in this ayem rather than having a run around the yard barking at the squirrels.

Wren—I saw a report about the United Health Care CEO being killed, too. The killer was waiting for the CEO, knew where he was going to be and when, according to the report. I'll bet you are right about the motive.

MOmmy—does your DH think someone was upset with the CEO personally?

Wren—21 Million suspects!?!?  WOW!  Those investigators are going to busy for a long, long time.

    The Usual Suspects

    Ingredients

    3/4 oz. lime juice

    3/4 oz. pineapple juice

    1/2 oz. simple syrup

    2 oz. rum

1/2 oz. velvet falernum (citrus liqueur)

    2 dashes Angostura Bitters

    club soda

    Directions

    Step 1

Combine lime juice, pineapple juice, simple syrup, rum, and Velvet Falernum in a cocktail shaker. Shake and pour into a tall glass filled with ice.

    Step 2

Top with club soda and two dashes of Angostura bitters.

NM, you're so clever in picking your drink of the day!

It's on the news that the bullet casings had words written on them, the same words that are a title of a book criticizing the insurance industry. Insurance companies are in business to make money, not cover health care.

Nm, anything is possible. Especially since they used a silencer and had been waiting outside the hotel for at least 10 minutes. Just sad that his family has to go through this just before Christmas.

The day was off to a good start until I discovered that two ornaments had gotten broken. One was broken in transit and the other was broken as the truck was being loaded for the move and the movers never said a word!

Good morning. I know the silence in the lounge isn't from hangovers! LOL. Hope everyone is navigating the pre-Christmas season with a minimum of stress. I still haven't put out my few Christmas decorations but will get around to it today. We have a lighted tree that has been stored in the attic undisturbed the last three or four years. It will remain there this year. I bought it one year when I was having my family here for Christmas dinner and there were children. My sister who usually has the dinner at her house was living in a borrowed house because her house had been flooded during a hurricane and was being elevated and repaired.

Happy Saturday to everyone whatever your day will include.

We have a pre-lit tree. DH put that up and I put on ornaments until I got tired lol. I put a few other things out and 'called it good' as you (Wren) put it so well. The stocking on the right is for the kitties (says meow 😻).

Nice, Reader. I didn't get around to the Christmas decorations yesterday. Maybe this morning. We're going to a Christmas concert this afternoon. It's always excellent with concert musicians and a well-trained choir. Afterwards we will be having dinner at a favorite restaurant. We're going with another couple. This is an annual occasion.

    Wishing everyone a good day.
