Differing diagnosis

I was diagnosis with DCIS grade 1 stage 0.

I was given the treatment options. I decided to get a second opinion.

My second opinion clinic requested the slides from my biopsy and that pathologist determined, I didn’t have DCIS.

Has anyone ever experienced this?

Hi @stacy_lynn, In your situation getting a third opinion would probably be the best thing to do. Insurance will generally pay for this if the first two opinions disagree. Sending the slide to a large cancer center or hospital where it can be examined by a pathologist who specializes in breast cancer would be best.

My first pathology reading was DCIS from a generalist pathologist at a small hospital but a specialist pathologist saw 2 cm of IDC on the slide. I would have had surgery for either so the biopsy diagnosis didn’t change that. In your situation you want surgery only if it is necessary. Good luck getting a definitive answer.
