People see Usha Vance as displaying hypocrisy by being a "brown person" happily mingling with racists. But she and her family don't consider themselves "brown", despite their skin tone. Usha's family is in the Brahmin caste, which is the highest level of hierarchy in the Indian caste system - they are the "white folk" in India. As a Brahmin, she feels just as entitled to comfort and command as Musk's mother, Melania, and any other GOP arm decoration.

Decided I shouldn't post this on the drinking thread, so…,.. From the Harper's Index:
Percentage by which Democrats are more likely than Republicans to say they expect to drink alcohol almost every day in 2025: 30%
I'd say we have a reason!!!

Thank you for enlightening me about Usha's sense of entitlement but I am sure most people don't know, understand, or care about that. This is not India so the caste system really carries no weight here in the non-Indian population.
So by marrying JD, did she marry up or down, and I do not mean to be disrespectful, just inquisitive? After all, his family was really not of the same hierarchy level here.
I wonder how he would be regarded in India? They may be Rep arm candy but only if you buy into that as being a reason for respect. I don't.

I had to look up Usha's caste, because I didn't know either. She was born and raised in the US, but they did have a Hindu wedding ceremony in Kentucky. So her caste probably isn't as defining for her as it would have in India; but her parents, who were Indian immigrants, would have grown up with that entitlement, and that almost certainly influenced how she was raised. Usha and JD met in Yale law school, so her marriage to Vance was probably seen as equal status, or a marriage down but a good investment.
JD wasn't the country hick that he marketed himself to be in his book. He grew up in a comfortable, middle-class, Ohio household. His grandparents may not have been upper-class, but they groomed JD to advance into those ranks. He golfed, and went to OSU and Yale, almost literally checking boxes for social climbing.

For people who don't say please, why would they expect others to say, thank you? No common courtesy seen ever.

Faith is not something that is passive. Our faith requires a commitment from us. If thoughts of lack come to mind, we counteract such negativity by counting our blessings and giving thanks for the abundance of good things we have. The ability of our bodies to heal is enhanced by our affirmations of life, which stimulate a positive response from the life within our very cells.

Love that polar bear thank you. I think from the sound of it that is what may happen to Vance. He has been so far given the crappiest of jobs for this WH and the overall reviews of Vance are not positive at all. I think he will be a great fall guy.

According to the RNC though, he is the top contender for 2028. I hope not because he is one angry man who never learned manners or how to be diplomatic.
He seems to be a real social climber but lacks the bucks to be valued other than those he gets from Thiel and his ilk. Everyone knows about his mother but want about his father? He clearly lacks the social strata to be accepted by the mucky-mucks as well. I don't think he is a Pence but his unwarranted bull dog attacks are not appreciated.

Sounds like a plan from a stable genius…

But, he is a huge proponent of Project 2025 and that has a great deal of value to the evil stew that is the current administration. As long as he remains useful to their goals there is no concern over manners, how to be diplomatic or anything beyond what they want. The current administration has shown that manners, diplomacy and caring about others is no longer part of their vision for the US. Oh, and I wouldn’t count on a mid term or any other election to change things. They have worked too hard for too long to get what they want. I apologize for my pessimistic attitude but they won’t let go even if it has to come to violence.

I do think some people won't let go from the other side. I guess I see it as Trump and Musk (does include Vance) doing such destruction that by the time 2026 is done and we get to '28 I'm not sure what the Reps. party is really going to look like. The Reps. have grown substantially worse through the years and at some point we either sink into real 2025 or once again the pendulum (as it so often has) swings the other way. I also think if the current admin keeps moving in the fashion, they have I feel it is almost certain we will see 'change' very much to the better.
I think the evil and destruction the Trump and Co. have been pedaling is extremely hard to swallow and added this time are all the Reps. who thought for some odd reason they were safe. It was not part of their plan to be snuffed out along with the rest of us. So, I'm waiting to see how far the Reps. party gets.
Also if things get too tough for Trump he may have to pick out a scapegoat or two. Musk and Vance are close. Of the two Musk has more money so Vance would be the better scapegoat. He won't be fired — just ignored.
