waiting for results
I found a lump in my breast and went to the clinic yesterday where I had a mammogram then ultrasound. I am high risk due to my mum having R & L breast cancers and same for one auntie and just one breast for other auntie. At the initial consultation the Dr said its probably a cyst but at the ultrasound the radiologist said "I'm sorry" and showed me an image on the screen, she then said there was a concern with one of my lymph nodes. She took a breast and lymph biopsy and put a clip in so I went back for a further mammogram where I was told the clip was to show for future scans or possible surgery. I felt fairly sure I'd been told I had cancer but then when I went back to the Dr she was very elusive and said we wouldn't know until biopsy results and I had done everything right by coming in quickly, then introduced me to a macmillan nurse. I would just rather her have said the likelihood is… but we don't know for certain as she's left me feeling very confused. Is this a similar experience for others?

Hi @millymoo, While imaging finds indications of possible cancer it cannot diagnose whether the abnormality is benign or not. The reactions of medical personnel also have no significance. There is no way of determinimg exactly what is there other than by biopsy pathology. They always put a clip in the biopsy site in case surgery is needed and as a marker to show where the biopsy was done for future reference. Waiting for the result is hard but there is no way of guessing what it will be. I hope yours is benign. If not this is a good site for information and support. All the best.

Hi @millymoo, and welcome. We're so sorry for the worries that bring you here, but we're glad you've found us and posted about your concerns.
@maggie15's post is 100% spot-on. Only a biopsy can determine whether cancer is definitely present or not. So, while it's difficult to wait for answers, try to remain positive and keep your mind busy until you have the results.
Please keep us posted with what you find out — we're thinking of you and hoping for the best!

Hi @millymoo - I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. Only biopsy results can confirm diagnosis. The technologists/medical personnel - please ignore their reactions (I know that's easier said than done)… They are NOT supposed to say things like 'I'm sorry' or tell you anything about your results (whether definitively or otherwise) until the official report is ready and until the physician can discuss it with you. This is poor training on their part unfortunately. I'm sorry you received such service - it is understandably very anxiety-provoking as I went through a slightly similar experience a few days ago.
No matter the result of your tests, I'm wishing the best for you!
