I don't listen to rock but have heard about his past. How lucky he made it to 76! May he rest in peace.

Good morning to everyone. I had a tasty margarita last night at a Mexican restaurant. My only complaint was too much ice, leaving less room for the liquid. Next time I'll skip the ice. I ordered the traditional with the addition of Grand Marnier.

Getting a touch of the heat dome here this weekend. Gonna have heat indexes from 90-100

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Saturday! It's been a pretty busy week here with either me or Mom having appointments and things scheduled. We did find out that Mom has still been wearing her old bottom dentures with her new top dentures, and that is why she has sore spots on her bottom gums. The old dentures are now living at my house so Mom can't confuse them with the new and we'll see if things heal up over the next couple of weeks. I have been checking with her about using the new dentures and not the old ones, and she has been telling me she threw the old ones away, but I found them in the denture cup with the new ones on appointment day. Gotta love the Mamma!
Wally--at $95 bottle of chardonnay? Wow! I'd love to have a taste of it. I wonder how much just a glass would be?
mOmmy--I was surprised when I heard about Ozzy Osbourne's passing, too.
Miriandra--I bet lots of people have been doing Ozzy memorial listenings.
Carole--yup, there really can be too much ice in many drinks!
Have a beautiful weekend, yourself, Teka!

Not doing much of anything today. Too dang hot!

Yes, it's even hot here in northern MN. Unlike summers at home in Louisiana, though, there is usually relief in sight, as it doesn't stay hot for months on end.

99 degrees atthe coast here today! Real feel was 110. I did my 30 minutes of laps in the pool but no hanging around outside in that heat.
Had a very tasty Picpoul Pinot Noir the other night. Did not know that one came in a red.
NM your mom stories are precious. I enjoy them. My mom passed when I was in my 30s so I never got to experience some of what you describe. 👍💚

NM - I too love the Mom stories. My Mother had a debilitating, catastrophic stroke when I was 48. For the next 12 years, she lived as a total vegetable.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Sunday Funday! Today is my day for going to Mom's getting her weekly grocery delivery ordered, sweeping/vacuuming/washing floors and whatever other chore needs attention. This afternoon she wants to go shopping for some jeans and pants and a pair of slippers that she can wear in the house and outside on the tarred driveway when she goes out to check her tomato plants.
While it wasn't as hot here yesterday as it has been, there was an air quality advisory up for the entire day. I had no motivation, so I decided to use that as an excuse to not do much of anything yesterday. Last week was pretty busy, so I figured I deserved a day off. Hmmm, I just noticed there's an air quality alert up for today, as well, for particle pollution. Makes me very glad to have AC in the house and car. I have to sneak the AC on at Mom's house, she is always cold and doesn't want to run up the electric bill but her apartment can be like a sauna sometimes!
Glad to hear everyone is surviving the heat effects so far. And glad the Mom stories are entertaining. Writing out the things she does helps me see the humor in the little that sometimes irritate or frustrate me.
Reader--I am so sorry your mother has passed. You must miss her greatly.
Minus--oh my, what a difficult situation your family went through with your Mom. So sad and so hard.
HEAT DOME COCKTAIL

Had planned on going to church this morning but alarm system on the neighbor's truck across the street started going off about 2 a.m. waking both me and hubby, not once but twice!

Hi everyone! It’s a lovely day on the mountain, 80 degrees with low humidity and a nice breeze. I’m currently enjoying a cold Corona with lime and listening to Jimmy buffet. I love weekends like this, hope you’re having a good one too 😎

Mae - jealous of your temperatures. But at least we only broke 101 twice this week. Hope all is going well with your treatments.
NM - you are lucky that your Mom lives close. My mother lived in CA when she had her massive stroke. I live in Texas. My Dad was able to take care of her for awhile, but when it got to the point we had to hire help - he fired them as soon as left & I flew home. I was too young to quit my job & move, but I did fly out there every month to buy groceries and hire more caregivers. The PCP that they both loved is the one who finally braced my Dad. He told my Dad if he quit firing the caregivers I hired he (the doctor) would be brought on charges on negligence. My Dad believed in the doc enough to finally quit firing helpers. On the other hand, that meant that I had to do the payroll long distance every week for 12 years and call my Dad with the numbers since he insisted he would be the only one to write the check (s). Fortunately after Mother died, the primary care giver said she would not leave my Dad (now 93 years old) and stayed to take care of him for his remaining 2 years.
I'm still sipping a "dram" of Tuaca every night before bed. My opinion is I'm retired and I deserve it.

So sick of the heat and humidity already. Heading into day three. Havent sept well the lastvtwo nights and at this point i am so over summer, bring n Fall!

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Monday Monkey Day! Waking up to 64 degrees and 95% humidity this ayem. I'm a bit surprised there isn't a dense fog advisory out given how thick the fog is around the house. Took Mom shopping for slippers, shoes, and pants yesterday, but she didn't find anything she thought would fit. She did enjoy looking around the store, though. It’s a local discount/clearance/salvage store that usually has a bit of everything at deeply discounted prices. I found some material for making beds for the puppers' new crates, which I plan to put together this week. The exciting part was when we got back to Mom's place. She didn't have her key with her, which we knew. I had checked to be sure I had my key before I locked her front door, only to discover that what I thought was her apartment key was actually the key to her safety deposit box! I wound up opening up and climbing in through a window to let us in. On the up side, we did find Mom's key before I left.
mOmmy--what set the neighbor's truck alarm off? I hope it wasn't someone trying to steal it!
Illi--that sounds like a truly lovely day in the mountains!
Minus--I am lucky to be close to mom. It sometimes seems a little hard to be going over to her place every couple of days or so until I remind myself that I could be trying to manage things from much further away and it would be very, very much harder. I can't imagine how difficult it was taking care of your Mom with your Dad firing the caregivers every time you turned around. As a nurse I have worked with some families that had a hard time finding compatible caregivers or a family member frequently firing caregivers and could see the frustration it caused. I'm glad you found a way to get your Dad to stop, and he wound up with the blessing of a caregiver willing to stay on and take care of him. The long-distance payroll part must have been a real challenge, though. I agree that you deserve the dram of Tuaca every night before bed, even if I don't know what Tuaca is!
mOmmy--heat and humidity is pretty rough, especially when it keeps you from sleeping. Hugs.
I found this recipe looking up Tuaca, which I am now going to have to go out and try to find!
Pineapple “Up-Sides-Down”
Ingredients
• 2 oz. Tuaca (vanilla citrus liqueur)
• 2 oz. vanilla vodka
• 1 oz. fresh pineapple juice
• Maraschino cherry, for garnish
Instructions
Stir Tuaca, vodka, and juice together in a cocktail shaker. Pour over a tumbler glass of crushed ice; garnish with a cherry.1 -
don't know, its just stinks getting woke up like that.

Monday Mai Tai, cheers everyone 🙂

NM - be prepared for sticker shock on the Tuaca. It's 35% alcohol. I'm fortunate that none of my drinking friends care for it. They'd rather have Bailey's or Tia Maria.
Tuaca is a sweet, golden-brown Italian liqueur, primarily known for its blend of brandy, vanilla, and citrus flavors. It's also described as having hints of butterscotch, cola, and dried fig. Originating in Tuscany, it's a popular choice for sipping straight, on the rocks, or in cocktails
Mae - I love that your DOD for Monday starts with "M".

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! Change in plans for today, was going to work on putting one of the new pupper crates together, but Mom's tomato plants got blown over again and this time the pots broke, so I'll be picking up new pots, potting soil, and repotting them today before they die. I'm going to remember to put some bricks in the bottom of the pots for weight this time, and do a little pruning to cut down on the wind resistance. Of course, today is going to be the hottest, most humid day of the week and Mom simply will not let the AC stay on in the apartment for more than an hour at a time. I don’t see how she can possibly feel cold in this weather, but she does!
mOmmy--getting woken up like that has to be annoying, to say the least. Hopefully it doesn't keep happening.
Illi--Love the Liquid Luck glass, and the Mai Tai!
Minus--thanks for the heads up. It sounds absolutely marvelous.
Tomato Basil Crush
Ingredients:
• 1 Cup of Ripe Tomatoes (Any variety will do here, but just make sure they are really great tomatoes.)
• 1/2 Cup of Fresh Basil
• 1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar
• 1/2 Cup Water
• 2 Oz. Vodka
• 1 Tbsp. Smoked Sea Salt for Garnishing the Rim (Regular Salt would work too)
• 2 Tbsp. Balsamic Glaze for Garnishing the Rim (I used Trader Joes's Balsamic Glaze, but you can also reduce 1/2 Cup of balsamic vinegar down in a pan with 2 tbsp. of sugar until it is thick.)Directions:
• Make basil simple syrup by combing sugar, water, and basil in a saucepan and bringing it to a boil. Remove from heat and let the syrup sit for 10 minutes. Remove basil from syrup and chill thoroughly. (Feel free to make this the night before. The syrup will keep for 2 weeks in the refrigerator.)
• Roughly chop tomatoes.
• In a food processor, pulse the tomatoes until they are pureed.
• Strain the tomato juice through a fine mesh strainer and set aside.
• In a cocktail shaker, combine the vodka, tomato juice, and 4 tablespoons of the basil simple syrup and shake with a few ice cubes until the cocktail is chilled.
• Take two glasses and dip the rim in balsamic glaze followed by the smoked salt.
• Place ice cubes in the glass and then pour tomato basil crush cocktail over top.
• Garnish with basil and skewered tomatoes and serve immediately. From

I've been drinking the boxed cabernet (Kirkland) and it is not horrible.

Wally - I do like the Kirkland boxed wind. But I find it it too easy to just have one more glass at the push of a button. So drank more than as sensible.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Thirsty Thursday! I did get Mom's tomatoes repotted the other day, and had to run over yesterday ayem to pick up more potting soil and add it as I didn't get enough the first time around. And I still need to get some more to finish filling the pots, but at least there is enough soil in the pots now to keep the plants thriving. One got pretty droopy and dehydrated, but after some attention and a good watering it was perking back up, so I think it will survive as well. One advantage of all the maneuvering of the plants is that Mom can now see some of the baby tomatoes from her living room window. Up until now she has only been able to see the babies if she went outside and looked for them (or had someone show here where they were). She stands to get a pretty good crop out of these three plants!
Wally--I wonder why boxed wine has such a negative reputation? I've had some boxed wines and they all tasted as good as there comparable bottled wines. Boxed wines are made the same was as bottled wines, just packaged differently. Does the box really change the quality of the wine or that is that all in our minds?
Minus--I can see where the convenience could create an over-consumption problem!

Today would have been my Daddy's birthday. Went to his grave for a birthday visit and also to say Happy Birthday to my late maternal grandma for her birthday which would have been Mondaynext week. I miss both of them so much.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Thirsty Thursday! Mom and I went on a train ride yesterday and had a great time. Mom was a little disappointed to not see any deer or other critters, but otherwise loved the ride. I'm surprised how well she did getting up and down the steps to get on and off the train. We found a cute little restaurant nearby for lunch; the food was really good so we are going to go back again sometime. Mom was totally wiped out exhausted after lunch, but still had enough energy to get a little mad at me when I wouldn't let her go into WalMart shopping for a couple hours on the way home!
mOmmy--hugs for your Daddy's birthday memories. I miss my dad, too. He died in 1998. And for your grandma. There's a special connection between granddaughters and grandmothers.

I'm feeling sad this morning. One of my long-time bc.org friends, Illinois Lady (Jackie), has passed. She had been missing from the Oldies thread over a week and we all thought she was probably having computer problems. One of our members did some searching and found her obituary. What a shock. I will miss Jackie.
On the positive side, we did not have violent weather in the early hours this morning. The forecast had warned of strong winds and possible tornados. The forecast is the same for tonight.
Hope your shopping trip with Mom goes well, NM.
Sheet pan dinners are a great idea if one has an oven and it isn't too hot to use it. LOL.
