Thyroid calcified nodules

My Ct scan found several calcified nodules on my thyroid. One measured 7mm. From what I have read, they are probably cancerous.

I am now really worried. I am only 3rd year into treatment for my BC. They said I would be ok for 9 years.

Glad I change clinics. The old clinic kept dismissing all my issues. My new Dr. has been very aggressive with testing when I have an issue and hopefully will aggressively follow through on this issue.

Blessings to everyone on this sight.

Hi @artwish, There are three different types of calcified thyroid nodules. Rim calcifications are rarely malignant, macrocalcifications have a malignancy rate of about 15%, and microcalcifications are double that risk at 30%. Just like with a breast lump a biopsy is the only way to tell. There is a new genomic test called ThyroSeq which is very accurate at determining whether there is a cancer gene involved. This cuts down on unnecessary surgeries which were done when general probabilities were the best cytologists could come up with.

Radiation caused my previously excised thyroid goiter to grow back. I had a 57 mm calcified nodule biopsied (benign.) Since it was deviating my trachea I had radiofrequency ablation surgery to shrink it.

Unfortunately there are no guarantees about what will happen after active treatment for breast cancer ends. There is a correlation between breast cancer and thyroid issues but even if thyroid cancer develops it is rarely aggressive and easily treated. I hope everything works out well for you.

Thank you. Much better than what I read on line.

You have been through this which makes your info. personal.

I had decided to stay clam and be ok with what ever happens. I will be see my NP on the 24th. I will be sure to mention the ThyroSeg to him.

Thanks again for reaching out. Take Care.

Roses were my Fathers favorite. I bought a small rose bush for his room when he was in hospice care. After his passing, I brought it home. Had to put it in a pot since our property did not have the right kind of soil to grow roses. It is a sweet reminder of him.

I took care of Mom for the next 12 years. She passed 2 years ago. Never let her know about my cancer. My sister came to help while I went through surgery and treatments. We are very close now. Good things do come in trying times.

    Blessings to you and yours.
