Letrozole for life
Wondering if there are any very high-risk others here that have agreed to Letrozole for life so to (almost) completely minimize their chances for recurrence?

Hi @marileemgc , and welcome to our community. We're so sorry you haven’t received any responses yet. We hope our post helps bring some attention so others who may have experience with long-term letrozole can chime in. In the meantime, you might find this article from our main site helpful: . It gives detailed information about how it’s used, side effects, and more.
Hope this helps! Looking forward to hearing more from you soon.

Hi @marileemgc -
Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry that you have to be here, but glad you found us.
I'm not sure there is anything that will almost completely minimize the chance for recurrence. BC is a beast and doesn't play by any easy to follow rules.
After my 1st dx I was on Letrozole for 8 years. It was fairly new back then at least for early stage BC. My MO at that time pretty much let me decide how long to stay on it even though 5 years was the school of thought. I was concerned about stopping it. However, I ended up with osteopenia and fell and had a bad break of the bone in my arm. I felt like that was my wake-up call that it was enough. It also made me progressively more tired.
When I was dxd a 2nd time (new bc, other breast-not a recurrence), I mentioned to my MO that maybe I should have stayed on the Letrozole. She said then what might have happened is I might have still been dxd but it might have been Hormone negative. Since this bc was Grade 3, it sounds like (at this point) I will only be on Letrozole for 5 years as I could still take it after that, but studies have shown that it won't do any good.
I don't know about those that are Stage 4. Perhaps they take Letrozole until it no longer works. Hopefully, someone will chime in. If you tell us a bit more about your dx, maybe we could better advise?
I didn't exactly answer what you were looking for, but thought I would reply anyway.
Take Care.

@marileemgc I’ve been on letrozole since mid-October and will most likely stay on it for life (I’m 72). This is my 2nd round of BC, first was DCIS and I took exesmestane then anastrozole (insurance issue).

Thank you for your reply. Makes sense to stay on it as long as the side effects aren’t detrimental to your health.
Best of luck

Thanks Mandy!
Helpful information. I am extremely curious about the comment from your physician about the possible dx of hormone receptive negative BC should you have stayed on it. I’ll have to look into some medical journals. Never know, there may be some school of thought on that.
Thanks for your insight. I appreciate it. The best of luck with everything..Marilee 💕
