For the 10-year anniversary of my ICD dx I got... a dx of DCIS!
I had Stage 2 triple positive IDC 10 years ago at age 39. I was treated with 6 rounds of neoadjuvant TCHP, a lumpectomy, radiation, and about 7.5 years of Tamoxifen. I was recently diagnosed with a small section of intermediate grade DCIS with microinvasions in the other breast.
On one hand I'm glad it is DCIS and I'm not going to have to get back on the chemo train. On the other I feel at sea with how to think about treatment decisions with this new finding. I was firm with my first cancer in doing the least invasive surgical approach. With the new cancer I'm thinking about going more aggressive, but am stressed about reconstruction complications especially with an irradiated breast.
I'm going for a contrast-enhanced mammogram to look for any other areas of concern on Thursday and also meeting with a surgeon, so maybe I just need to stop spiraling and wait for those discussions.
Wondering if anyone has had a similar background or experience.

Hi @furiosa ,
That’s such a lot to handle — reaching the 10-year mark and then facing a new diagnosis. It’s good that it’s DCIS and not something requiring chemo, but the mix of relief and uncertainty is completely understandable.
Taking time for the upcoming imaging and meeting with the surgeon sounds like the right move. We often let our worries get the worst of us. Those next steps should bring more clarity and help with deciding what feels best.
Many here have faced a second diagnosis after years of remission and know how unsettling it can be. Sending calm and steady energy your way as you move forward. 💗
