Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?

Bob laughed when I told him about the plumbing "balloon angioplasty" analogy—he said as a cardiologist's wife I've learned a lot.
Taco, may your 80th year be a great one. Today is also our last "good golf day" for awhile (if forecasts are to be believed), but I've just located our clubs and I don't think my back can take anything more than "pitch & putt" or even (with my long-handled putter) mini-golf.
Speaking of weather forecasts, my plans to grill steaks & corns are, uh, up in (potential) smoke. We are under red-flag warning—yes, even in Chicago—due to drought conditions and high winds, open flames are prohibited till after it rains, likely Tuesday. No leaf-burning, fire pits or BBQing. And even using indoor fireplaces are discouraged should embers escape chimney caps. Not that the latter applies to us: we haven't used our fireplace in over 30 years because I have all my guitars (in cases) lined up against it. Gotta find some way to climate-control our upstairs office with a good humidifier, or clear enough space in the basement to hold the ones I hardly ever use but am too sentimental to try and sell.

Sandy, glad your sense of humor has survived the turmoil of the past year. Your familiarity with medical terminology is very good and the analogies funny.
It is very windy today with wind gusts that actually produce loud groans. I don't like weather like this because it brings down large trees and large branches. DH said he saw stopped cars and a police car around the bend. Seems some large branches hit the road and not sure if they also hit any cars. DH insists on moving leaves from the lawn up into the woods. I asked about them being blown back in yard, but he is adamant. Hope they don't blow back in the yard. There are times talking to my hand is better than trying to make sense with him, and this is one of them. He'll be griping if they blow back in the yard and I will become selectively deaf.
I pulled a ham loaf out of the freezer and also a Dutch apple pie for dinner and dessert. I have acorn squash and am deciding whether to make corn on the cob or broccoli as sides.
Called DS to ask if they would want to go out to dinner after the Cheer Off to celebrate his birthday. DDIL tells me that her friend called to say they had to park over a mile away from the Cheer Off venue and it was super crowded. She advised us not to go based on the parking situation and crowd size. DD and her DH went and had to park a mile away. DD and DS were able to get into the hall of the venue, but not into the gym where the event was taking place. DSIL had to stand outside and while it was milder than the past few days it still was cold.
It was a good idea that we stayed home after hearing from DD and DS. We agreed to meet them at their house at 4 PM to go to dinner. DS was indecisive about where he wanted to go to eat, so I picked Outback from the options he offered, because that was a choice where he could have a dinner drink. So his family of 4 (DGS was at another tournament) , DD and DSIL, and us went to outback where we had a great waitress and a great meal. He had his dinner drink, received a free slice of cheesecake with a candle for his birthday and we all had a good time. I have Dine Rewards so I received a nice coupon towards our next meal.
DDIL taped her team's performance. She is the cheer coach for the group DGD is in and she played it for us. DGD did a great job and she really loves cheer. DDIL was a cheerleader so she brings a lot of experience to the team. I am not sure of how many coaches they have for this team.
DGD stood next to me and at age 10, she is about an inch shorter than me. She thought it was funny and I found it alarming. I am sure I am shrinking due to spinal degeneration and refuse to let anyone measure my height for that reason. The impact on my BMI would be horrible. I was a flyweight at her age and stayed that way until after my children were born. Can't make that claim now.
taco, as far as reaching 80, that's a plus today. Celebrate every year you have, because the alternative is not something we'd like to think about. Glad you can continue to golf. Love that you collect hats. I buy baseball caps from each country we visit so my collection is becoming extensive. They are nothing like what you buy though. I did get a free cowboy hat on our Alaskan cruise for the western theme night. Enjoy your new look.
Have forgotten to post quotes for the past 2 days. I need to get back in the swing of things and in the morning it is so easy to get distracted around here. I'll have to leave a post-it reminder on my computer.
Hope everyone had a great day and waving "hi" to everyone.

A quiet Sunday here. Strip the bed, make the bed, dyed my roots, rehung an outdoor metal & glass sun - surprised it didn’t break when it fell. Sent out some Thanksgiving cards too.
My niece and grandniece went to our NY house today. We had a list of things - all delivered mail was junk; she rebooted a WiFi booster for my garage camera; found the electric razor new head & blades; and even found coupons we left for my allergy meds. And most importantly, took out our garbage that we erroneously left inside. We were on FaceTime so it felt good to get a look around to see all was good.
No signs of the armadillo returning to the holes. We’re keeping an eye on them.
That’s about it. I hope you all had a restful Sunday.2 -
It's foggy this morning. I was reminded by an email that I have an appointment with my PCP's NP at 1 pm. I must not have written it on the calendar. That time works out for letting me attend the 11:30 exercise class. Only problem is grabbing something to eat. I'll take a snack, like an apple cut into wedges. Something to hold me.
We have a new instructor for the Monday class. Ed, the regular instructor, has health problems. He's such a good guy and we miss him. I learned recently that he volunteers and doesn't take pay. Anyway, the new instructor, Penny, has a learning curve to fine tune her exercises to an older crowd. Not too easy. Not too strenuous.
Taco, I have a collection of hats I used to wear for sun protection while playing a lot of golf. When my hair looks really awful, I might wear one for a trip to the supermarket or whatever. When I first started coming to bc.org in 2009, the forum that helped me so much was started by a woman who called herself Year of the Hat. I am the only woman in that small group that continued on bc.org. The others all dropped off after we got through surgery and reconstruction. I sometimes wish I had their email addresses and could check on how they're doing.
Hope everyone has a good Monday.

Thanks for all the cyber hugs.😊
Just as I agreed to have the crawl space encapsulated in NC, the tiles popped up in my breakfast nook in Florida. A crack formed in the concrete foundation. The floor people came out Saturday. They can fix it and replace the tile, but it probably won't be the same. My tile is nearly 30 years old. It was original to the house. Maybe houses are like children. LOL The Florida house is saying, "pay attention to me."
My labs came in and I am in Hypothyroid range. Pill dosage adjustment needed. The last time it was in that range was when I was getting radiation.
I felt like a lump and didn't go to Zumba or take my morning walk. I am working on my ebay stuff. I try to repair or repurpose vintage costume jewelry. I am working on a camphor glass set. I might just keep it for a while.

Love that glass piece, petite!
Crisis averted. MO showed me the MRI scans, which revealed no rib or spine lesions. Not costochondritis (too far to the side, and not that characteristic excruciatingly sharp pang from inhaling). Not a broken rib either—that would have shown up. LDH & calcium levels normal, so no mets or tissue destruction (still anemic, though; with too-high BUN & creatinine—which doesn't have the nephro concerned). Working dx is muscle &/or ligament strain, coupled with lower thoracic & mid-lumbar stenosis. He warned me it could take over a month to resolve, so just be patient and don't try to do any more heavy lifting, twisting or upward stretching (so at the grocery, I need to commandeer tall people to reach stuff on the high shelves. Lost only 2 lbs since last visit (albeit wearing shorts & tee back then), so it's due mostly to not eating enough while trying to juggle all the move-in doo-dah. Not due for another MO visit or MRI for another year.
The plumbers are coming Wednesday. Handyman looked at the basement and the circle of litter isn't wet. So I will wash a few dishes in the kitchen tonight and Bob can take a longer shower (as I did yesterday).
Gordy is settled into his new digs (still has organizing to do) and got an Instacart account for groceries. Dot (the pooch) isn't coming till the weekend—he just goes over to the "now-old" apt. to walk her.

I didn't see that, Teka. Yes, I have to be grateful for small things. Truly grateful,
Since Tippy decided I truly love him, he thought he was welcome to run out the door whenever I left. He has forgotten "stay". I resorted to putting the leash on him at the door, then hauling him back into the apartment and tying him to a table-leg. It worked four years ago, it will work again.
1 -
Sandy, glad you got good news, but to endure discomfort for a month is tough. Hope the plumbers can fix the drain situation so you can resume normal showers.
petite1, that piece reminds me of a necklace I have that is vintage with a very small diamond in the center of etched translucent glass. I have several other vintage pieces given to me as a teenager by a friend's elderly aunt. I have a brooch, a bracelet and a matching ring for one set and several other pieces she gifted me. I should look for them. I was so pleased when she gave them to me. I imagine they are from the 20's or 30's given she was in her late 60's or 70's when she gifted them. Supposedly she had money so I should have someone look at them for appraisal and to see if they are just costume jewelry. Love the piece you have. I should take photos to see what you think.
Chris, does Tippy move the table when he is tied to it? Terriers are usually strong. He wants to go with you when you leave.
cindyny, you still accomplish so much in one day.
carole, sorry you lost your favorite exercise class leader. Will he be able to return or is this a retirement for him? I am sure Penny will get the message about her class. First rule of any class, is assess your audience and hopefully she has now.
Today was another blustery day with winds in excess of 30 mph, that caused temps in the 40's to feel like we were in the low 30's. I am not ready for winter yet.
I went to Giant grocery store today because DD uses my account so she can get discount gas and she had bought enough recently that I would qualify for a free turkey, if I bought a few things today. I had a list of needed items and was able to reach the number of "choice points" needed to qualify. I was able to restock my pantry, and get a free 19 plus pound turkey which I will donate next week at the local turkey drop. We are having Thanksgiving at DS's and DDIL buys a fresh turkey which they prepare. I make candied sweet potatoes from scratch and pineapple casserole to take there, but need to make enough for that dinner, leftovers for them, some for DD, and some to keep here. Everyone has a dish to bring so it is not too much work for the host and hostess. They also get a Costco pumpkin pie which is one of the best I've ever had. Boston Market used to have a good one, too, but they are gone from this area.
Need to do a Costco run myself, but might not be able to do it tomorrow. DH has a doctor's appointment and needs a haircut. Wednesday we have the HVAC people coming to assess the A/C issue. They are coming to assess what needs to be done, not a repair yet. The drywall installer had a neck fusion and while he is chomping at the bit to get back to work, I don't want him here yet. I may ask DB to finish what he started rather than have him return. He really wants to fix the interior and ceiling of the closet though. I think I found a closet organizer that consists of metal frame system that we could just install ourselves. It does need to be bolted to the studs but the Rubbermaid systems will not work because the closet depth is only 21 inches and the width of his hangers are 16.5 inches. It has sliding doors so we can't install anything that features center shelves because they would be inaccessible. Anyhow, once we have an organized and its installed we will be doing a major purge of his clothing.
Wednesday, I am having my ripped left earlobe repaired and I will ask him to assess my right one as well. It is also a bit stretched and I intend to have my ears pierced again once they have healed, so I would like them to be the same level. I do have to ensure the new piercing is not near the new scar, too, which could impact level as well.
In March, I will have to find a place that pierces ears since mine were pierced by a classmate when I was a student nurse. Yes, we took 18 gauge needles from the hospital and used those to pierce each other's ears. They were sterilized between each use. I wonder if I still have the gold studs I purchased then? LOL.
Hope everyone had a great day and waving "hi" to everyone.

I pierced my own. Parents wouldn't let me get them pierced, so I did it myself. They are a bit off, but seem more so as I get older. Wires are uncomfortable when I tried them after a long vacation. I think posts will work, but I am afraid to try because of my thumbs.
Yes, it is a solid table. Once I escape, it is all done. In fact, when I used the leash, it was so gently atached to the table that he worked it loose. I think my house-cleaner and I can give him a brief lesson on the command "stay" on Friday.

Petite, the jewelry is pretty.
Sandy, great news on your medical front. Fingers crossed for the plumbing.Chris, Tippy keeps you on your toes!
Carole, maybe a google search will turn up your friends. I get a kick out of trying to track friends from the past on FB, or LinkedIn.
Betrayal, you had a productive day and a free turkey to boot.
I ran around this afternoon picking up orders, and hit the Ace hardware store for air filters. Our guest bedroom has a small 10x10 filter. Ace has a 10x20 for $5 and change, or the 10x10 for $4. I bought the larger one and just cut it in half. I replace them often enough I’ll take the savings. Now the larger main one is 18x24 and we get them at BJ’s in 3 packs; sometimes we’ll get a coupon to save some $$.Tomorrow they’re power washing our driveway, walkway and if you empty your front lanai & prop open the door (we did), they’ll clean it too. It’s a company the HOA hires, with our dues, to come through the whole development. My second car is parked around the corner. I was out putting Dawn on spots left from someone parking in my driveway leaking who knows what, at midnight. I forgot about it until then.
I’m heading to bed. I’ve been sleeping horribly. It seems I’m awake on & off half the night. It might be from taking 1 NyQuil gel cap at bed for 5 nights, that 1 knocks me out. I stopped taking it two nights ago. Fingers crossed I stay asleep. Hoping we all have a good nights sleep!

Betrayal, I wasn't aware that one could have earlobes repaired. I see women with tears in the lobes from wearing heavy earrings. I pierced my own ears when I was in graduate school. The "piercers" were sharp wire earrings that you squeezed while wearing them until the holes were formed. The holes don't match but I doubt anyone has ever noticed.
Cindy, you need to relax your busy mind before turning out the light to sleep. That's as far as my advice goes. LOL.
The new instructor was absent yesterday because of jury duty and Molly, the Friday instructor, subbed. The class was excellent. I ate my apple snack on the drive to my wellness appointment with the NP. She is new, replacing a NP that I liked a lot. The visit was routine. I will go early tomorrow morning for fasting blood draw at the Outpatient Pavillion. I wish the PCP would order blood work ahead of the appointment but that's not the routine.
Today I have a hair appointment that involves a 40-minute drive. That's my only commitment. I will probably go to chair yoga at 1 pm. Tonight I will be on my own since dh will be attending a woodworkers' guild meeting.
Last night I watched the Ken Burns documentary on the Revolutionary War while dh slept in his chair. Documentaries put him to sleep.
Happy Tuesday to all.

Sis & I didn't get our ears pierced till our mid-teens. Mom insisted a doctor, not s jeweler, do it—so we went to the GP down the block (our FP was a long subway ride away). This doc was born in the "old country" (E. Europe) and pierced too low down on the earlobe, so unless we wore studs, we looked like old Polish-Russian grannies with dangly earrings. Took forever to heal, as instead of putting in an earring he used a loop of suture! (Then switched to 14K wires but with nothing dangling from them). First chance I got when older I got a piercing higher on one earlobe at a Greenwich Village jewelry store—which immediately inserted s little 14K star.. I now wear large 14K disk backs to keep my earrings (even the studs) from dangling. I rarely change my earrrings (despite having a whole collection)—just wear the diamond studs and put them into my ultrasonic dental pod cleaner while I shower. For formal occasions I use small light dangles that mount on the studs themselves.
May tempt fate tonight and run one load of dishes, as the cat litter around the bottom of the waste stack is still dry. Getting tired of washing dishes in the bathroom sink.
Plumbers coming to do the "angioplasty" around 9am. Bob has a dental appointment down in the Loop about the same time, but will grudgingly drive (20 min) rather than tske the L (40 min) so he's back to supervise when I have to leave at 1 for my monthly facial in RIver North.
Leaving for rehearsal in a few minutes.

Carole, plastic surgeons will repair torn ear lobes. My DD pulled on my left wire earring when she was young and tore my ear lobe. The right also had a small tear later, so in order to wear some of my earrings, I have to use the plastic disks to keep them level. I do have the 14 K backs that Sandy mentioned and need to find them. Plus as we age, our ear lobes have a tendency to droop. I wear earrings daily and have a large collection of them, so I do want to be able to wear them all including those that are heavier.
I don't wear the wires they have today because they do not have the closure that the old ones did. I have lost several because I cannot keep them in my ears. So studs, studs with a clip safety or screw on catch, and wires that also have a closure are my go -to's. Once my ears heal, I will have them pierced again. I'll let you know how the surgery goes tomorrow.
Today was a very gray day with blustery winds and air temps lower than those recorded on a thermometer. Not a great day and now it is raining as predicted. Supposed to rain overnight.
I forgot my dental appointment this morning, but thankfully the office was able to squeeze me in tomorrow morning. Need to take my antibiotic before I go, so I will take it as soon as I wake. I will be so glad when I can stop taking the antibiotic.
Did some laundry today and then had to rewash the bathroom rug DH decided to wash again. It was one I removed from the dryer last evening, so I have no idea why he rewashed it. However, there was so much soap either in the dispenser in the machine (added by him) or trapped in the rug, the washer was full of suds. You couldn't even see what was in the washer. I had to rinse and spin it 5 times, before I finally decided to run it through a wash cycle with just water. It has taken the better part of the day to finally get it back into the dryer.
DGS made the honor roll and we are pleased to see that he has finally decided to live up to his abilities. We have talked to him about wanting to go to college, and how critical his grades are starting this year. We have contributed to a college fund for him and his sister, so if they decide to go, they will have some resources.
Guess that's about it from here. Hope everyone had a great day and waving "hi" to everyone.

Good morning!
Remember to take care of yourself. You can't pour from an empty cup. 😘

Teka, great message and oh, so true that we sometimes place ourselves last in line. Thank you for posting it.
I went to get my teeth cleaned this morning at 9 AM. I was up early and did not sleep well after 5 AM, so I am dragging now. 2 PM was my appointment with the Plastic Surgeon to get my ear lobes with the ripped hole on the left and asymmetric one on the right addressed. He does what is called a wedge resection where the tissue is removed as an inverted "v". I have these bulky dressings on right now so I can't see the incisions, but can take these off tomorrow and replace with band-aids. I look like a boxer with cauliflower ears, lol. The sutures will dissolve in about 10 days and then I have to wait 4 months before I can pierce my ears again.
I asked about where you can get ears pierced now since I haven't been in a mall in years and have concerns about those kiosks where they used to do piercings. Not sure if they even exist now. His assistant said to go to a tattoo parlor that does piercings because they are usually more sanitary, and will make sure they are aligned. I only have to avoid the scar line because it could tear. There is a tattoo parlor close to us, so I will ask them if they do piercings.
HVAC supervisor came today to assess repair done in the attic to the A/C duct and was unhappy with what he saw. It was his employee that effected this so they will have to redo it. Now we are back in limbo as to when they can fix it. So we can work on repairing the closet in the interim.
This is so much like the 4 years of torture from the restoration company after the tree strike. My guest room is a mess, the living room has the rugs from it and the dining room rolled up after cleaning and my dining room is a mess because the furniture had to be moved to remove the rug. I need to reach out to DB to see if he will pain the room for me. Plus I need to send the drapes out to get cleaned. This should have been done while the restoration company was here due to the dust they created. I hate disorganization, so this is bothering me, especially since the holidays are so close.
Got a call from my eye doctor's office. Seems they had canceled my September appointment due to rolling out a new computer system that unfortunately cancelled all pre-existing appointments. I need to see the retinal expert and he's new. Seems the one I saw for years and who did both of my cataract surgeries, retired in July. I am glad because he was getting up there, and sometimes made me concerned about entries I found in my record. Nice and excellent, but needed to retire. So they got me in right before Christmas. I see them twice a year, so I had lost track of when I was due again as well when they cancelled me. Like the December-June rotation because it is easy to remember.
Rain early this morning and the dampness makes it feel colder than the temp posted. I am cold now and can't imagine what I will do when we have winter. I am wearing fleece tops or sweat shirts in the house and sometimes add another fleece over them if I am sitting. So a gray, dismal day with no sun.
DH had to run to Home Depot for some supplies so there is a Wendy's nearby. I love their Taco salads and asked him to get me one. He'll probably do a burger and fries.
Tomorrow the generator guys are coming to do some maintenance on ours. I think we'll hit Costco on Friday and I am sure DS will join us. I need some basic supplies and some freezer supplies.
DGS gave us his Christmas wish and it was a season's pass to the local snowboarding area. We got it from him after extracting a promise he will try to make honor roll for the rest of the year. He's a good kid and has a plan for transportation to and from there. He got goggles and a helmet last year and found a new (to him) snowboard at a yard sale this summer. He was honest and told the guy he had "X" amount of money which was less than what the guy was asking. The guy told him to come back later in the day, and when he did the board was unsold, so he agreed to a lower price. He managed to get a good price from the seller and had the bindings thrown in, so DS was impressed at how he handled the transaction.
Hope everyone had a great day and waving "hi" to everyone.

@betrayal You are so busy! You exhaust me! I have a dental cleaning next week. I have a dental phobia so I don't sleep the night before either even though it is only a cleaning. Ugh! But it is important we keep up on these because of our meds. I waited until I was in my 30s before I had my ears pierced. My parents were old-school religious and wouldn't let me do it. I am not sure why I still waited so long since I got married at 19. But oh well…they were done at a mall and have been good although since I wear oxygen 24/7 I don't wear earrings much anymore. But the holes are still good when I need them. We did our six-month Sam's run today…very expensive day but it will hold us until about May. We also have a Costco but decided we only needed one membership store. Sams has what we use. I can't imagine all you are going through with the restoration. I hate having my house upended like that, but I know it was necessary.
It is still warm here today and I noticed we are not the only ones in the neighborhood with Christmas decorations in the yard already. We have to do it before the ground freezes.
My DH has a PAE prostate procedure scheduled for the morning. I pray this helps him. Fortunately there is no cancer and this should fix it. A specialist comes to town once a month and does them so we are fortunate to get on his rotation. It should be quiet around here for a couple of days.

I’ve never had my ears pierced. I can hear your gasps! LOL I took ballet for about 12 years, and you couldn’t wear earrings. Also at the same time I took gymnastics for about 5 years and no earrings allowed. By time I thought about it I wasn’t interested.
My sister and her gf used ice cubes to numb their ears and put a potato behind the ear to steady the earlobe as they stuck a needle in to pierce it. That memory may be why I had no interest HAHAHA.
I had an aunt who was in her 60’s and she apparently always wanted her ears pierced, and got it done at a jeweler. We ran some errands today. I got a few cards in the mail for Thanksgiving. Then cooked a nice eye round roast beef for dinner.
Tonight was trash night. If my Illinois gf was in town we’d do a drive around to see what goodies we’d like. She text me to go! I did grab a set of matching lamps, with great shades on them. I’ll try them tomorrow to see that they work before deciding if I swap them out with the ones in my living room.
They’re in my garage.
I thought this was so cute and would love to have taken it. But I have no room in the house to put it.
I swear you could furnish a house from curb side finds. There were 2 wooden side/end tables with glass tops. Wooden head & foot boards. Because of bugs - ants of all sorts and worse, I’d never take any upholstered items. But the rest can be wiped down easy enough.
That’s it for me today. Hope you all had a good day.Good luck Sandy with the plumbers tomorrow.

That cabinet is beautiful! But I would strip and refinish I do not like painted furniture.
Not going to work today. I did too much cooking yesterday and my hands are aching quite a bit.
1 -
The cabinet is beautiful, but usually the wood they use for painted furniture is not stain quality grade. Just something I learned from my DB. A new coat of paint could make it the centerpiece of a room. It would make a nice bar cabinet.
My DSIL is known for wandering around her neighborhood on big trash day and coming home with some great finds that sometimes require nothing more than soap and water to rehab them. I have 2 very old wicker chairs that my DF found curbside; one is a rocker. They are comfortable and in relatively good shape. My cat Leo claims one for his own.
cindyny like the lamps and shades and hope they work in your living room. I imagine recyclers find this a field day.
Ears are a bit sore, but Tylenol seems to take care of that. Had to sleep on my back because I couldn't tolerate pressure from side sleeping. I did change the dressings to a knuckle band-aid because they were already catching my hair and would not have survived the night. I slept well after not sleeping well the night before.
I want to hand wash some clothing items today and then put them away until our next cruise. Fingers crossed they turn out okay. I also want to tackle my closet which I have yet to get to. I want to start with my casual pants and trousers, them move on to the dress ones. I think I will only get through casual today.
The juncos are back which means winter is on its way. They winter in this area, as do the tufted titmouse. They are fun birds to watch.
It is in the 40's again today. The sky is gray and it is not supposed to be very warm. Typical fall weather. Thankfully no breeze.
Hope everyone has a great day and waving "hi" to everyone.
2 -
The a/c just kicked on here. It's summer weather outside.
I like painted furniture. That cabinet would be great for someone with a need for it. We have picked up items put out for the garbage. One year I was walking in a subdivision down the street and saw a weed eater (whacker) that looked like new. DH drove back and picked it up. He repaired it in about 30 minutes. So many people have no fix-it skills.
We get rid of unwanted furniture or other items by putting them out by the street.
I had lunch with two long-time women friends today. I should get something done this afternoon but I'm feeling lazy.
Happy Thursday to all.
1 -
I never got to the lamps today. I’ll get to them tomorrow. The cabinet - I should put the picture out to all my neighbor ladies, someone may know someone who can use it.
Today we ran to CVS, then to the transportation center - as seniors we can get a discount on passes. We purchased pass cards for $6.50 each, allows 12 trips on the trolly. That’s 6 round trips to/from Fort Myers beach. We park our car at the park & ride, avoid driving over the bridge & paying at least $20 to park. We’re headed there on Saturday so this was timely. The cards can be replenished online at the same rates.
Tonight we went to a pizza party welcoming snowbirds back. It was fun, got us out & I didn’t have to cook.
Tomorrow night is music walk downtown. It will be our first this season, and should be a nice night out walking around.
Betrayal, hoping your ears aren’t too sore.
Chris, hope your hands stop aching.
Carole, in NY we also put stuff out on the curb. The street we live in there is highly traveled.
Intolight, hoping your dh procedure went well.Teak, nice quote, and so true.
Sandy, I believe today was your plumbing angio, fingers crossed you’re both taking long showers while the dishwasher is running.
Weather here has been, and is predicted to continue, to be 84 and sunny. Hope you all have a good night.
3 -
The chances of each of us coming into existence are infinitesimally small, and even though we shall all die some day, we should count ourselves fantastically lucky to get our decades in the sun.
1 -
We finally have a working waste stack system! They were able to bore through the corrosion clog and some tree roots (from a black locust that is troublesome anyway and we might remove even though it does provide some summer shade but needs annual pruning to keep it from touching roof & wires). Running the dishwasher & disposal and taking a shower seems almost decadent now! Next plumbing project is new comfort-height toilet in first floor bathroom, and perhaps externally-mounted bidet sprayers for both toilets.
Landscaper/handyman will install outdoor covers on window AC units and weatherproof the front room & den windows. Going through my audio components to determine which ones I truly need and which to sell or donate. Have 20 years of obsolete laptops I need to "scrub" before taking to electronics recycling.
Have decided to stop dyeing my roots, since the gray is coming in silver and fine-textured now. But will get at least one more straightening treatment & trim (ends getting shaggy but I like the length). We're taking friends & Gordy (not soon-to-be-ex-DDIL) to the Palm for T-Day dinner. He just got his employee discounted tix for McCartney at the United Center for Monday night (Bob won't be able to knock off work early enough). Haven't seen him in concert since Gordy was 4!
Cleaning crew coming in 2 hrs—need to go to ATM to replenish my 20s for tips. (I could do Zelle but I think they appreciate the cash). Got some more music to woodshed for tomorrow's rehearsal.

Planned a Costco run today and DS joined us. I had my check from Costco for purchases made this year and that was substantial. DS likes to go with us because Mom pays, but he loads up the carts and car for us, so he earns it. The checker at Costco was floored when we pulled up with 3 cart loads. Paper towels and bottled water take up a lot of room, as does kitty litter bags.
Plus, I am contributing to what my GC eat and they are non-stop eaters. Got a Chik-Fil-A order for lunch at their house. So we are well-stocked until right before Christmas. I should have picked up a salami or soppressata for the cheese platter I plan on taking to their house for Thanksgiving. I have crackers, so this will give us some nibbles before the big meal.
I have 2 turkeys to donate next Tuesday at the turkey drop run by a local Philadelphia radio station. I need to debulk my freezer. I did purchase some frozen foods like waffles and French bread pizza plus some foods to freeze: chicken breasts, and lobster ravioli. I think we are set for meals for several months. DS gave me a container of chili he made. I'll make some corn bread and have it with the chili for dinner over the weekend. The cats have enough litter to last for awhile and the same goes for the "greenies" for the dog.
Sandy, so glad you now have a working drain system so you can take a lengthy shower, run the dishwasher, etc without the threat of a flood in your basement. Your plans for new toilet and possible bidets sounds like a good plan. Do you have grab bars near the toilets? We installed them in the tubs, but not by the toilets upstairs. I had DH install a portable on in the primary bedroom bath after I had my knee surgery and it is still there. The powder room one is close to the vanity, so that can be used to lever oneself up, but the hall bathroom needs one installed. It is the highest toilet in the house though.
cindyny, ears are sore and swollen so feeling some discomfort. Sleeping has been a challenge to find a comfortable head position where my ears do not encounter the pillow. I think both are to be expected since surgery was only on Wednesday. The collar of my coat today was hitting them, so I may try to find another jacket to wear.
carole, I hope someone does seek out that large curbside cabinet. It really could be transitioned into a lovely addition to someone's home. I would pain it black, install lighting if it doesn't have it already and finish with brass hardware. I still think it would make a nice bar cabinet or display cabinet. We don't have anything like that in our area and since I am not on FB, I do not have access to their market. It's nice that someone's trash could become someone else's treasure. Locally we have a teenager who buys old furniture, paints it and adds a varnished wood top for contrast and sells it. He's really quite talented.
I like old furniture and have my parent's mahogany dresser, nightstand, and dressing table. They have shield mirrors, too. I use it in my guest room with the white vintage metal trundle bed. I bought this many moons ago and it is quite ornate with brass balls on the arms. This is where my grandchildren sleep when they stayover. The dressing table serves as a desk now and holds a TV. The furniture shows it's age, but considering it is over 80 years old, it is still serviceable. It was well-constructed and the drawers move easily.
Hope everyone had a great day and waving "hi" to everyone.
