Old implants, new cancer diagnosis. Want lumpectomy with implant removal at same time.
I just received a new cancer diagnosis and want to proceed with a lumpectomy. I have 30 yo implants I want to have removed at the same time. I'm afraid of looking disfigured afterward.

@knthrock We're really sorry you’re facing all of this at once. It’s completely understandable to worry about the cosmetic outcome when combining a lumpectomy with removing older implants.
People in similar situations often say that the result depends on the tumor location, how much tissue needs to be removed, and how stretched the breast tissue is after long-term implants. Some feel uneven or flatter at first, while others are surprised by how well things turn out.
Many patients find it helpful to:
- Talk with both the breast surgeon and a plastic surgeon to understand what the breast may look like afterward.
- Ask about oncoplastic techniques, which can help preserve shape. (might want to listen to this:
It’s a very common fear, and getting clear expectations from your surgical team usually brings a lot of relief.
