You should be able to return to your previous activities once you heal from the surgeries. Your onc surgeon and plastic surgeon could help with suggestions. Maybe get a referral to PT.
I had DMX, chemo, radiation, implants (failed) , lat flap ( failed) and finally a successful DIEP.
I was very active before my diagnosis and did resume going to the gym. After everything I have been through, I am back to my previous levels of activity. Just had to modify along the way.
The hardest recovery was the DIEP. My PS gave me “all clear” after 8 weeks but there was no way I felt ready. I slowly started walking and did gentle yoga until I was ready for more cardio and weights. The fatigue was the hardest for me. Had joint pain with AI’s but feel like exercise helped with that SE.

I want to encourage you not to give up on the gym and exercise. Speak to your providers about your limitations and begin slowly when you have approval to start.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.

I believe you will get back there! I went back to gym and other regular exercise for most of the last two years since my diagnosis and tx including lumpectomy, radiation, Anastrazole and Verzenio . I have noticed a decrease from my usual five exercise days a week since Thanksgiving that I attribute to holiday goings on and weather, but also a cough and decreased endurance I have had for the last month or two. Still managing a few days a week.

I appreciate both replies . I heard we can have Hernia from diep flap.

    Any idea about it ?

  • I am 4 years post DIEP, no hernia.
